We obtain a general result for the Lamb shift of excited states of multilevel atoms in inhomogeneous electromagnetic structures and apply it to study atomic hydrogen in inverse-opal photonic crystals. We find that the photonic-crystal environment can lead to very large values of the Lamb shift, as compared to the case of vacuum. We also suggest that the position-dependent Lamb shift should extend from a single level to a miniband for an assembly of atoms with random distribution in space, similar to the velocity-dependent Doppler effect in atomic/molecular gases.  相似文献

By combining two one-dimensional defective photonic crystals (PCs), we obtained a photonic heterostructure with narrow frequency and a sharp angular defect mode. The key to obtaining such a structure is to design the two sub-PCs to make the frequencies of their defect modes the same at one incident angle and different at all other incident angles. Filters designed on the basis of this heterostructure possess not only a narrow-frequency passband but also a sharp angular pass breadth. Optimization of the practical design is also suggested.  相似文献

We investigate the lateral shift of the light transmitted through the ternary one-dimensional photonic crystal composed of two dielectric and one superconducting sublayers. The field distribution of a light wave near a magnetic defect in a one-dimensional photonic crystal is analyzed. It is shown that, by properly varying the magnetic defect thickness or the parameters of the photonic crystal surrounding the defect, one can create a situation where the electric field of a light wave will be localized predominantly inside the magnetic layer or, conversely, in the immediate vicinity of the layer surface. This opens up possibilities for optimizing the Q factor of a magnetic microcavity in the presence of dissipation in the magnetic layer and, hence, for enhancing the linear and nonlinear magneto-optical effects. The possibility of separating the contributions from the surface and volume of the magnetic material to the nonlinear magnetooptical properties by properly varying the field distribution over the defect thickness is discussed.  相似文献

The effect exerted by defects that represent a local disturbance of the structural periodicity on the band spectrum of a one-dimensional photonic crystal has been investigated. A classification of single defects has been proposed. It has been demonstrated that the position of defect minibands in the band gap of the spectrum of the crystal can be controlled by varying the type of a defect and its location in the crystal structure. The presence of two defects in the structure leads to the formation of two minibands, so that the spacing between the minibands and their intensity depend on the type of defects and on the distance between them.  相似文献

The properties of defect modes in one-dimensional photonic crystals (PCs) containing a graded defect layer are studied theoretically. The relative permittivity and magnetic permeability of the graded defect layer vary continuously along the direction perpendicular to the surface of the layer. The effect of the linear gradation profiles of the relative permittivity and permeability are studied in detail. It is shown that the defect modes appear inside the forbidden band gaps in its transmission spectra and the gradation profiles of the relative permittivity and permeability affect the defect modes significantly. By changing the gradation parameters, the intensity and position of the defect modes can be tuned. Therefore, introducing a graded defect layer in one-dimensional PCs provides possible mechanism for tuning the defect modes. This may be useful in the design of channeled filters.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate the properties of defect modes in one-dimensional symmetric defective photonic crystals. We consider three defective photonic crystal structures, air/[(AB)NsAα(BA)Ns]Np/air, air/[(AB)NsABβA(BA)Ns]Np/air, and air/{[(AB)NsABβA(BA)Ns]Bγ}Np−1[(AB)NsABβA(BA)Ns]/air, where A and B are respectively taken to be the high- and low-index dielectric materials. The first has a defect layer of Aα, the second has a composite defect, ABβA, and the third has a interleaving defect Bγ. The effect of thickness on the defect mode is studied by varying the parameters α, β, and γ, respectively, for the above model structures. It is found that the positions and the number of defect modes can be significantly changed due to the change in the defect thickness. In addition, by increasing the repeated number Np, we can have multiple defect modes, leading to a possible design of tunable multichannel filter.  相似文献

We have studied the dielectric-superconducting pair defect embedded into one-dimensional photonic crystals by an analytical method based on the Kronig-Penny model. The superconducting defect has been considered by using of two-fluid model whose permittivity depends on the frequency and superconductor parameters. We have showed that in contrast to the usual defect modes, superconducting defect modes are nearly invariant upon the change of defect size and with increasing defect sizes, the enhancement behavior is observed in the peak of electric field profiles. In addition, the physical parameters have less effect on the defect modes, which is placed under cutoff frequency of superconductor.  相似文献

In the present paper, a novel photonic crystal (PC) defect mode is designed by inserting a ferroelectric material layer (LiNbO3) into Si/C60 one-dimensional PCs. The band structure of the ferroelectric PCs is numerically analyzed by the transfer matrix method (TMM). The width of the photonic band gap increases by 80 nm and a defect mode appears at a central wavelength of 680 nm when a 150 nm LiNbO3 layer is inserted into the Si/C60 PC structure. The defect mode in the band gap shifts linearly with the change in electric field. The defect mode shifts by 11.2 nm toward shorter wavelengths when the thin film is subjected to a DC voltage of 1 KV.  相似文献

The Hartman effect in one-dimensional photonic crystals contained a defect layer doped with two-level, and three-level atoms is discussed. It is shown that the transmitted phase time in one-dimensional photonic crystals contained a defect layer reaches to a positive constant as the periodic number N increases. However, for a defect layer doped by two-level atoms, the transmitted phase time reaches to negative constant by increasing periodic number N. In addition, for defect layer doped by three-level atoms, the transmitted phase time can be controlled from positive to negative just by the Rabi-frequency of coupling field.  相似文献

We propose a simple setup for generating evanescent Bessel beams using the defect mode of one-dimensional (1D) photonic crystal. The angular selectivity provided by the defect mode mimics the role of an axicon for Bessel beam generation. When an azimuthally polarized beam is strongly focused onto a 1D defect mode photonic crystal interface, an evanescent Bessel beam of the first-order is produced, while an evanescent Bessel beam of the zeroth-order will be created under a radially polarized beam illumination. Switching between a donut shape and a solid focal distribution can be easily realized by controlling the polarization of the illumination. Such a versatile evanescent Bessel beam generation may find potential applications in optical trapping.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the phase properties of light reflected from one-dimensional omnidirectional reflection photonic crystal. We observe that the phase changes drastically at large incident angles. This asymmetrical phase change should be considered at oblique incidence, and various phase compensators and retarders can be designed by this nonlinear curved surface of phase shift. Furthermore, for the coupled defect 1D PC, the phase change depends mainly on the top of the sharp peak of the weak undulation within the rectangular defect band, because the top of the peak of the undulation is very sharp, i.e. large phase change look like within almost a single frequency. This drastic phase change can be used to design phase controllers.  相似文献

One-dimensional photonic crystals with a defect layer of CdS were fabricated. The observed enhancement of two-photon absorption (TPA) in the CdS layer can be attributed to the intensified optical field confined within the defect layer of the photonic crystal. The results show that the enhancement of TPA coefficient depends basically on the number of periods of the photonic crystal and the defect mode position in the photonic band gap. The observation agrees qualitatively with the expectations of a computation by matrix transfer formulation.  相似文献

Transmission properties of one-dimensional photonic crystal with two nonlinear defects were investigated based on the nonlinear transfer matrix method. From the inspection of the optical bistabilities around different defect modes, it was found that the threshold of bistability for the bonding mode is always lower than that for the anti-bonding mode. When intensity of the incident wave increases bistability could happen at any wavelength larger than the resonance wavelength of the linear anti-bonding mode in the gap. The threshold of bistability increases initially with the wavelength, then decreases sharply in reaching the resonance wavelength of the linear bonding mode. The coupling behavior of the two defects was also discussed, and it was found that the threshold of bistability increases with the distance between the two defects. A flat spectrum similar to that formed in the photonic crystal molecules was obtained under certain incident intensity.  相似文献

Light scattering and reflection measurements using attenuated total reflection technique for s polarization of the incident light on a finite one-dimensional photonic crystal are reported. Angular specular reflection was measured experimentally to determine, the optimum thickness, the angular position of the surface mode, and the number of bi-layers of the system. It was demonstrated that the position of the surface mode inside the last film is close to the asymptotic value when the number of periods is increased. Spectral reflection measurements were made to determine experimentally the band gap width and measure the dispersion relation of the surface mode inside this band. The corresponding field amplitude was calculated (∣E∣2) showing that in resonant conditions it has a maximum near the surface. The angular dependence of the scattered light measured displays a peak caused by singles cattering and located approximately at the excitation angle of the surface electromagnetic mode. When the incident light is in resonance with the surface electromagnetic wave, it is found experimentally that the scattering of light is enhanced overall by approximately one order of magnitude in comparison with the off-resonance case.  相似文献

In this Letter, we investigate giant and negative bistable lateral shifts for a light beam transmitted through a one-dimensional photonic crystal containing a nonlinear metamaterial defect. It is shown that there exists a typical S-shaped curve of the normalized input-output intensity. The hysteresis of lateral shift, resulting from the reshaping effect (constructive and destructive interferences of each plane wave components undergoing different phase shifts) is dependent on the nonlinear defect, the incident intensity and incidence angle. Numerical simulations are also made for the validity of stationary phase approach. All these phenomena lead to potential applications in integrated optics and optical switches.  相似文献

采用时域有限差分法中的分段线性电流密度卷积算法,研究具有单一缺陷层的一维非磁化等离子体光子晶体的缺陷模特性.从频域角度分析得到微分高斯脉冲的透射率,并讨论该光子晶体的缺陷层介电常数、厚度、位置、光子晶体的周期常数和等离子体参数对其缺陷模的影响.结果表明,改变以上参数可获得不同的缺陷模. 关键词: 时域有限差分法 非磁化等离子体光子晶体 缺陷模  相似文献
