X-ray standing wave fields, excited in periodic nanostructured multilayers during Bragg diffraction, have been used to probe atomic migration in multilayers. Ion beam induced migration of Fe impurity atoms from the C layers to the Pt layers in a Pt(Fe)/C(Fe) multilayer, where each layer is about 2 nm thick, has been detected. With a depth resolution better than 0.2 nm of this technique, the direction of Fe migration (here outward) and the change of Fe concentration in C (also Pt) layers have been determined. The results of such measurements are important for understanding the properties of multilayers, for example, the evolution of ferromagnetism in the present example [Dev, Microelectron. Normal incidence X-ray standing wave (NIXSW) analysis has been successfully performed on epitaxial gold films on mica substrates using reflection from the (1 1 1) planes parallel to the surface. We show that NIXSW can be used to monitor the decrease in order within the gold film caused by annealing, and the position of sulfur within a monolayer of methyl thiolate (CH3S-) on the surface. The Au-S layer spacing was found to be 2.54 ± 0.05 Å, in close agreement with previous work on a single crystal system.  相似文献

The X-ray standing-wave technique is reviewed in its application to surface investigations. Element- specific, structural analysis can be performed with high spatial resolution even for low surface coverages. We present several examples. Interface structure determination is discussed briefly. The fundamental principles and possible variations of the technique, the experimental requirements and the quality of structural information obtained from standing-wave measurements are described in detail.  相似文献

The advantageous use of synchrotron radiation for X-ray standing wave measurements is demonstrated. For bulk-like systems As implanted in Si was analysed with two reflection orders (220) and (440) which shows that lattice relaxation around the As atom can be measured. The case of Br chemisorbed on Si(111) illustrated the accomplished decrease in measuring time and increase in precision.  相似文献

A quantum analysis is presented of the motion and internal state of a two-level atom in a strong standing-wave light field. Coherent evolution of the atomic wave-packet, atomic dipole moment, and population inversion strongly depends on the ratio between the detuning from atom-field resonance and a characteristic atomic frequency. In the basis of dressed states, atomic motion is represented as wave-packet motion in two effective optical potentials. At exact resonance, coherent population trapping is observed when an atom with zero momentum is centered at a standing-wave node. When the detuning is comparable to the characteristic atomic frequency, the atom crossing a node may or may not undergo a transition between the potentials with probabilities that are similar in order of magnitude. In this detuning range, atomic wave packets proliferate at the nodes of the standing wave. This phenomenon is interpreted as a quantum manifestation of chaotic transport of classical atoms observed in earlier studies. For a certain detuning range, there exists an interval of initial momentum values such that the atom simultaneously oscillates in an optical potential well and moves as a ballistic particle. This behavior of a wave packet is a quantum analog of a classical random walk of an atom, when it enters and leaves optical potential wells in a seemingly irregular manner and freely moves both ways in a periodic standing light wave. In a far-detuned field, the transition probability between the potentials is low, and adiabatic wave-packet evolution corresponding to regular classical motion of an atom is observed.  相似文献

The interaction between an atomic beam of two-level atoms and a standing wave light field has been studied by the exact solution of a time-dependent quantum system developed recently. When the initial atomic state is choosen to be ground, we find that with the limit of zero detuning the atoms will oscillate between the upper and the lower levels with a decaying amplitude. The most interesting result obtained in this paper is when the initial atomic state is a particular superposition of the two levels, now the system does not oscillate at any time.  相似文献

We calculate the shape of the deflection profile of a monoenergetic atomic beam crossing a laser standing wave, in a situation where many spontaneous emission processes occur during the interaction time. X-ray standing wave studies for an iodine monolayer adsorbed on a (2 × 8) reconstructed Ge(111) surface indicate that the germanium surface atoms revert back to bulk-like positions with the iodine atoms saturating the dangling bonds and occupying the atop site positions.  相似文献

We report on a theoretical and numerical study of the propagation of atomic beams crossing a detuned standing-wave laser beam in the geometric-optics limit. The interplay between the external and internal atomic degrees of freedom is used to manipulate the atomic motion along the light optical axis. By adjusting the atom–laser detuning, we demonstrate how to focus, split, and scatter atomic beams in real experiments. The novel effect of chaotic scattering of atoms on a regular near-resonant standing wave is found numerically and explained qualitatively. 采用单电子模型和经典辐射理论分别对低能和高能电子在线偏振激光驻波场中的运动和辐射过程进行了研究. 结果表明: 垂直于激光电场方向入射的低速电子在激光驻波场中随着光强的增大, 逐渐从一维近周期运动演变为二维折叠运动, 并产生强的微米量级波长的太赫兹辐射; 高能电子垂直或者平行于激光电场方向入射到激光驻波场中, 都会产生波长在几个纳米的高频辐射; 低能电子与激光驻波场作用中, 激光强度影响着电子的运动形式、辐射频率以及辐射强度; 高能电子入射时, 激光强度影响了电子高频辐射的强度, 电子初始能量影响着辐射的频率; 电子能量越高, 产生的辐射频率越大. 研究表明可以由激光加速电子的方式得到不同能量的电子束, 并利用电子束在激光驻波场的辐射使之成为太赫兹和X射线波段的小型辐射源. 研究结果可以为实验研究和利用激光驻波场中的电子辐射提供依据.  相似文献

The x-ray standing wave (XSW) technique is used to measure the isotopic mass dependence of the lattice constants of Si and Ge. Backreflection allows substrates of moderate crystallinity to be used while high order reflection yields high accuracy. The XSW, generated by the substrate, serves as a reference for the lattice planes of an epilayer of different isotopic composition. Employing XSW and photoemission, the position of the surface planes is determined from which the lattice constant difference Deltaa is calculated. Scaled to DeltaM = 1 amu we find (Deltaa/a) of -0.36x10(-5) and -0.88x10(-5) for Ge and -1.8x10(-5) and -3.0x10(-5) for Si at 300 and 30 K, respectively.  相似文献

This paper reports an experimental study on the collimation and decollimation of an atomic beam in a misaligned standing wave, in which the effective detuning caused by the Doppler effect is affected by the longitudinal velocity of the atomic beam. The experiment shows that in a strong field with red detuning between laser field and atomic transition frequency, laser heating in a normal standing wave becomes laser cooling in a misaligned standing wave for an approriate misalignment angle. For blue detuning, laser cooling in a standing wave can also become laser heating in a misaligned standing wave for an appropriate condition. These results ca be used in controling atomic motion.  相似文献

A novel atomic lens scheme is reported. A cylindrical lens potential was created by a large period ( 45 m) standing light wave perpendicular to a beam of metastable He atoms. The lens aperture (25 m) was centered in one antinode of the standing wave; the laser frequency was nearly resonant with the atomic transition 23 S 1–23 P 2 (=1.083 m) and the interaction time was significantly shorter than the spontaneous lifetime (100 ns) of the excited state. The thickness of the lens was given by the laser beam waist (40 m) in the direction of the atomic beam. Preliminary results are presented, where an atomic beam is focused down to a spot size of 4 m. Also, a microfabricated grating with a period of 8 m was imaged. We discuss the principle limitations of the spatial resolution of the lens given by spherical and chromatic aberrations as well as by diffraction. The fact that this lens is very thin offers new perspectives for deep focusing into the nm range.  相似文献

One-dimensional deposition of collimated Cr atomic beam focused by a near-resonant Gaussian standing-laser field with wavelength of 425.55 nm is examined from particle-optics approach by using an adaptive step size, fourth-order Runge-Kutta type algorithm. The influence of laser power on deposition of atoms in laser standing wave is discussed and the simulative result shows that the FWHM of nanometer stripe is 102 nm and contrast is 2:1 with laser power equal to 3 mW, the FWHM is 1.2 nm and contrast is 32:1 with laser power equal to 16 mW, but with laser power increase, equal to 50 mW, the nonmeter structure forms the multi-crests and exacerbates. Site-specific valence-band X-ray photoelectron spectra of SrTiO3 (111) were successfully obtained by using X-ray standing wave technique. Contributions of the Ti and SrO3 derived states to the valence-band spectra were clearly separated. The spectra provided not only site-specific but also bulk-sensitive information on the SrTiO3 crystal because of the use of a high-energy synchrotron X-ray source (=4750 eV) for photoelectron excitation with the large escape depth. The electronic structures calculated by the DV-Xα method using a (Sr8Ti27O108)92− cluster model well reproduced the observed structures in the valence-band spectra. The partial density of states of both Ti and Sr ions in SrTiO3 were mainly distributed over the bottom of the valence-band to produce the covalent bonding with O ions.  相似文献
