We analyse the effects of atom–atom collisions on a collective laser cooling scheme. We derive a quantum master equation which describes the laser cooling in presence of atom–atom collisions in the weak-condensation regime. Using such equation, we perform Monte Carlo simulations of the population dynamics in one and three dimensions. We observe that the ground-state laser-induced condensation is maintained in the presence of collisions. Laser cooling causes a transition from a Bose–Einstein distribution describing collisionally induced equilibrium, to a distribution with an effective zero temperature. We analyse also the effects of atom–atom collisions on the cooling into an excited state of the trap. The paper reexamines the treatment of irreversible quantum systems by master equations. Shortcomings of the conventional theory of quantum Markov processes pointed out by Talkner are analyzed. It is shown that a frequently used quantum regression hypothesis is not correct, in general. A new generalized master equation determining the relaxation to equilibrium is derived by means of time-dependent projection operator techniques. It is shown that this master equation also determines the time evolution of equilibrium correlations and response functions. The Markovian approximation is discussed, and a new type of Markovian limit, the Brownian motion limit, is introduced besides the weak coupling limit. The shortcomings of the conventional approach are resolved by deriving new formulae for the time evolution of the correlation and response functions of a quantum Markov process. The symmetries of the process are emphasized, and it is shown how the fluctuation-dissipation theorem and the detailed balance symmetry emerge from the master equation approach.  相似文献

The synergistic effects of an adspecies/surface system influenced by a coherent laser field and an incoherent thermal phonon field are theoretically investigated. A generalized master equation is derived in the Schrödinger-Markoff picture and the total stimulated transition rates are decomposed into three parts: thermal phonon, laser and the interference terms. The energy transfer dynamics is pictured via the evolution equation of the average excitation of the active mode. A random phase of the off-diagonal matrix elements induced by the laser-stimulated surface processes is introduced. Finally, possible applications of the laser/phonon-stimulated master equation are discussed.  相似文献

We consider thermalisation and spontaneous decay of a two-level atom beyond the Markovian approximation. While the standard elimination of the continuum of radiation modes results in exponential decay represented by a Lindblad equation of motion, we use a simple toy model that takes into account the finite relaxation rate of the environment and present an exact non-Markovian master equation of the Nakajima-Zwanzig form. Because the exact derivation of non-Markovian equations has proved very difficult for all more realistic (and hence much more complicated) models, we analyze the master equation obtained and also discuss difficulties that are likely to arise with non-Markovian evolution operators.  相似文献

Discrete ratchets describe directed motion of a ‘reaction coordinate’ through a cycle of states in response to some varying external parameter. Such systems, in the simple, history-independent case, are described by a Markov process which in turn leads to a master equation with a transition matrix. Thus the ratchet property is reduced to a characteristic of the parameter-dependent symmetry of matrices. In the standard model of tunneling through a set of quantum dots in the Coulomb-blockade regime, a master equation is also used to describe the evolution through states in ‘dot-occupancy space’, leading to transport of electrons from a source to a drain. The symmetry of the transition matrix in this case is also a function of external parameters, notably the applied gate voltages and source–drain voltage, as well as depending on the configuration of dots and their tunnel couplings. We show that rectification and other ratchet behavior is a common feature of tunneling transport in the Coulomb-blockade regime. We also show that specific arrangements of dots and their tunnel couplings can be designed to enhance the ratchet effect. Finally, we show that the strong rectification of Coulomb-blockaded systems results from the reduction in phase space accessible to the system as it traverses the states in the reaction cycle. A broad-area laser is injection-locked by another broad-area laser that is also injection-locked by a single-mode diode laser. Two double-phase conjugate mirrors of photorefractive BaTaO3 are used to couple the master laser beams to the first slave laser, and the first slave laser output to the second slave laser. One of the double-phase conjugate mirrors is built up with the beams from two broad-area lasers. Two slave lasers are oscillating in single longitudinal mode at 808.5 nm and the spectral width is the same as that of the master laser. Final single-mode output power from the second slave broad-area laser is 840 mW, which is limited by the power of the injection beam. This work verifies the possibility of the multi-stage cascaded injection locking of high-power diode lasers with phase-conjugate injection. Summary In this paper we formualte a master equation approach describing a D+T thermonuclear plasma in a lumped phase space. From the first moments of this master equation and performing the pass to the continuous limit the evolution equations for the expected phase space ion densities emerge. Also we have obtained the evolution equations of the equal time correlation and covariance functions. In this work, we study an inverse dynamical problem for a bipartite quantum system governed by the time local master equation: to find the class of generators which give rise to a certain time evolution with the constraint of fixed reduced states (marginals). The compatibility of such choice with a global unitary evolution is considered. For the nonunitary case, we propose a systematic method to reconstruct examples of master equations and address them to different physical scenarios.  相似文献

采用Ket-Bra纠缠态方法求解主方程, 研究了具有含时外场情况下单qubit和无相互作用的两qubit与热库耦合时的量子退相干、退纠缠现象. 对两qubit情形, 我们以共生纠缠度(concurrence)作为纠缠度量, 研究了其纠缠动力学演化过程. 研究表明即使系统内部不存在直接、间接的相互作用, 施加含时外场也能引起纠缠的震荡和复活, 这为通过施加控制外场抑制开放系统的退相干、退纠缠过程提供了理论支持.  相似文献
