Classical trajectory calculations on intramolecular vibrational energy redistribution (IVR) involving the torsion in 1,1,1-trifluoroethane (TFE) are reported. Two potential energy functions (PEFs) are used to describe the potential energy surface. The "full" PEF gives excellent agreement with the experimental vibrational frequencies. The "simple" PEF omits nondiagonal interaction terms, but still gives very good agreement with the experimental frequencies. The "simple" PEF is intended to minimize mode-mode coupling. Neither PEF includes the HF elimination reaction. Calculations are carried out both with nominal microcanonical selection of initial coordinates and momenta, and with a modified selection method that places controlled amounts of energy in the torsion. Total (classical) vibrational energies from 0.005 to 140 kcal mol(-1) are investigated. The calculated time constants describing energy flow out of the torsional mode are <10 ps for classical vibrational energies near the classical reaction threshold energy (approximately 75 kcal mol(-1)) and greater. It is found that the rate of decay from the torsion largely depends on the amount of energy in the other vibrational modes. Analysis using power spectra shows that the torsional mode in TFE is strongly coupled to the other vibrational modes. These results strongly suggest that vibrational energy in TFE will not be sequestered in the torsion for time periods greater than a few tens of picoseconds when the molecule has enough energy to react via HF elimination.  相似文献

Exact variational calculations of vibrational energies of CH4 and CH3D are carried out using a two-layer Lanczos algorithm based on the ab initio potential energy surface of D. W. Schwenke and H. Partridge, Spectrochim. Acta, Part A 57, 887 (2001). The convergence of the calculated vibrational energies is discussed in detail. In addition, we report all well converged vibrational energy levels up to 6600 cm(-1) for CH4, and those up to 5000 cm(-1) for CH3D, respectively. These results clearly outperform previous theoretical calculations. And a comparison with experimental results available is also made.  相似文献

We report experimental results for electron scattering from tetrafluoroethylene, C2F4, obtained from measurements in two laboratories. An extensive set of differential, integral, and momentum transfer cross sections is provided for elastic scattering for incident electron energies from 1 to 100 eV and inelastic (vibrational excitation) scattering for incident electron energies at 3, 6, 7.5, 8, and 15 eV, and for scattering angles ranging from 10 degrees to 130 degrees. To highlight the role of intermediate negative ions (resonances) in the scattering process we have also measured excitation functions for elastic scattering and vibrational excitation of the ground electronic state of C2F4 for incident energies between 1.5 and 20 eV. Our results are compared with recent theoretical calculations and a limited number of other experimental results.  相似文献

The electron affinity of NO has been measured to be 0.026 eV by laser photodetachment experiments. This low electron affinity (just 2.5 kJ/mol or 210 cm-1) presents a computational challenge that requires careful attention to several aspects of the computational procedure required to predict the electron affinity of NO from first principles. We have used augmented correlation consistent basis sets with several coupled cluster methods to calculate the molecular energies, bond dissociation energies, bond lengths, vibrational frequencies, and potential energy curves for NO and NO-. The electron affinity of NO, EA0, using the CCSD(T) method and extrapolating to the complete basis set limit, is calculated to be 0.028 eV. The calculated bond dissociation energies, D0, for NO and NO- are 622 and 487 kJ/mol, respectively, compared with experimental values of 626.8 and 487.8 kJ/mol. From the calculated potential energy curves for NO and NO- the vibrational wavefunctions were determined. The calculated vibrational wavefunctions predict Franck-Condon factor ratios in good agreement with the values determined in the photodetachment experiment.  相似文献

High-resolution carbon 1s photoelectron spectroscopy of propyne (HC triple bond CCH3) shows a spectrum in which the contributions from the three chemically inequivalent carbons are clearly resolved and marked by distinct vibrational structure. This structure is well accounted for by ab initio theory. For 3,3,3-trifluoropropyne (HC triple bond CCF3) and ethynylsulfur pentafluoride (HC triple bond CSF5), the ethynyl carbons show only a broad structure and have energies that differ only slightly from one another. The core-ionization energies can be qualitatively understood in terms of conventional resonance structures; the vibrational broadening for the fluorinated compounds can be understood in terms of the effects of the electronegative fluorines on the charge distribution. Combining the experimental results with gas-phase acidities and with ab initio calculations provides insights into the effects of initial-state charge distribution and final-state charge redistribution on ionization energies and acidities. In particular, these considerations make it possible to understand the apparent paradox that SF5 and CF3 have much larger electronegativity effects on acidity than they have on carbon 1s ionization energies.  相似文献

We report accurate geometries and harmonic force fields for trans- and cis-azobenzene determined by second-order M?ller-Plesset perturbation theory. For the trans isomer, the planar structure with C(2h) symmetry, found in a recent gas electron diffraction experiment, is verified. The calculated vibrational spectra are compared with experimental data and density functional calculations. Important vibrational frequencies are localized and discussed. For both isomers, we report UV spectra calculated using the second-order approximate coupled-cluster singles-and-doubles model CC2 with accurate basis sets. Vertical excitation energies and oscillator strengths have been determined for the lowest singlet n(pi)* and (pi)(pi)* transitions. The results are compared with the available experimental data and second-order polarization propagator (SOPPA) and density functional (DFT) calculations. For both isomers, the CC2 results for the excitation energies into the S(1) and S(2) states agree within 0.1 eV with experimental gas-phase measurements.  相似文献

The vibrational wave-packet dynamics of diatomic rubidium molecules (Rb(2)) in triplet states formed on the surface of superfluid helium nanodroplets is investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Detailed comparison of experimental femtosecond pump-probe spectra with dissipative quantum dynamics simulations reveals that vibrational relaxation is the main source of dephasing. The rate constant for vibrational relaxation in the first excited triplet state 1(3)Σ(g)+ is found to be constant γ ≈ 0.5 ns(-1) for the lowest vibrational levels v ? 15 and to increase sharply when exciting to higher energies.  相似文献

A theoretical study of molecular, electronic, and vibrational properties of the first excited state of the phenoxyl radical, A 2B2, is presented. The calculated molecular geometries, vertical and adiabatic excitation energies, and harmonic vibrational frequencies are compared with analogous results obtained for the ground state. The calculated excitation energies correspond well to experimental data. The harmonic vibrational frequencies of the A 2B2 and the ground state are similar except for modes involving the vibrations of the CO bond.  相似文献

We employ zero-kinetic-energy (ZEKE) photoelectron spectroscopy with nanosecond laser pulses to study intramolecular vibrational redistribution (IVR) in S(1) para-fluorotoluene. The frequency resolution of the probe step is superior to that obtained in any studies on this molecule to date. We focus on the behavior of the 13(1) (C-CH(3) stretch) and 7a(1) (C-F stretch) vibrational states whose dynamics have previously received significant attention, but with contradictory results. We show conclusively that, under our experimental conditions, the 7a(1) vibrational state undergoes significantly more efficient IVR than does the 13(1) state. Indeed, under the experimental conditions used here, the 13(1) state undergoes very little IVR. These two states are especially interesting because their energies are only 36 cm(-1) apart, and the two vibrational modes have the same symmetry. We discuss the role of experimental conditions in observations of IVR in some detail, and thereby suggest explanations for the discrepancies reported to date.  相似文献

In this work, FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of 1-methoxynapthalene (C(11)H(10)O) have been reported in the regions 4000-400 cm(-1) and 3500-100 cm(-1), respectively. Density functional method (DFT) has been used to calculate the optimized geometrical parameters, atomic charges, vibrational wavenumbers and intensity of the vibrational bands. The vibrational frequencies have been calculated and scaled values are compared with experimental FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra. The structure optimizations and normal coordinate force field calculations are based on density functional theory (DFT) method with B3LYP/3-21G, B3LYP/6-31G, B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) and B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) basis sets. The complete vibrational assignments of wavenumbers are made on the basis of potential energy distribution (PED). The optimized geometric parameters are compared with experimental values of naphthoic acid. The results of the calculation shows excellent agreement between experimental and calculated frequencies in B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) basis set. The effects due to the substitutions of methyl group and carbon-oxygen bond are also investigated. A study on the electronic properties, such as excitation energies and wavelengths, were performed by time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) approach. HOMO and LUMO energies are calculated that these energies show charge transfer occurs within the molecule.  相似文献

The article presents calculated dissociative recombination (DR) rate coefficients for H(3) (+). The previous theoretical work on H(3) (+) was performed using the adiabatic hyperspherical approximation to calculate the target ion vibrational states and it considered just a limited number of ionic rotational states. In this study, we use accurate vibrational wave functions and a larger number of possible rotational states of the H(3) (+) ground vibrational level. The DR rate coefficient obtained is found to agree better with the experimental data from storage ring experiments than the previous theoretical calculation. We present evidence that excited rotational states could be playing an important role in those experiments for collision energies above 10 meV. The DR rate coefficients calculated separately for ortho- and para-H(3) (+) are predicted to differ significantly at low energy, a result consistent with a recent experiment. We also present DR rate coefficients for vibrationally excited initial states of H(3) (+), which are found to be somewhat larger than the rate coefficient for the ground vibrational level.  相似文献

Three-dimensional quantum mechanical calculations on the vibrational predissociation dynamics of HeI2 B state complex are performed using a potential energy surface accurately fitted to unrestricted open-shell coupled cluster ab initio data, further enabling extrapolation for large I2 bond lengths. A Lanczos iterative method with an optimized complex absorbing potential is used to determine energies and lifetimes of the vibrationally predissociating He,I2(B,v') complex for v'相似文献

OCl/OH product branching ratios are calculated as a function of total energy for the O( (1) D) + HCl reaction using quantum wavepacket methods. The calculations take account of reaction on all the three electronic state potential energy surfaces which correlate with both reactants and products. Our results show that reaction on the excited electronic state surfaces has a large effect on the branching ratio at higher energies and that these surfaces must therefore be fully taken into account. The calculations use the potential energy surfaces of Nanbu and co-workers. Product vibrational and rotational quantum state distributions are also calculated as a function of energy for both product channels. Inclusion of the excited electronic state potential energy surfaces improves the agreement of the predicted product vibrational quantum state distributions with experiment for the OH product channel. For OCl agreement between theory and experiment is retained for the vibrational quantum state distributions when the excited electronic state potential energy surfaces are included in the analysis. For the rotational state distributions good agreement between theory and experiment is maintained for energies at which experimental results are available. At higher energies, above 0.7 eV of total energy, the OCl rotational state distributions predicted using all three electronic state potential energy surfaces shift to markedly smaller rotational quantum numbers.  相似文献

We report experimental results for electron scattering from perfluorocyclobutane, c-C(4)F(8), obtained from measurements in our two laboratories. A set of differential, integral, and momentum transfer cross sections is provided for elastic scattering for incident electron energies from 1.5 to 100 eV. Inelastic scattering (vibrational excitation) cross sections have been measured for incident electron energies of 1.5, 2, 5, 6, and 7 eV. In order to investigate the role of intermediate negative ions (resonances) in the scattering process we have also measured an excitation function for elastic scattering and vibrational excitation of the ground electronic state of C(4)F(8) for incident energies between 0.6 and 20 eV. These results are compared with the limited amount of data available in the literature for scattering from this molecule.  相似文献

CO adsorption on Pd atoms deposited on MgO(100) thin films has been studied by means of thermal desorption (TDS) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopies. CO desorbs from the adsorbed Pd atoms at a temperature of about 250 K, which corresponds to a binding energy, E(b), of about 0.7 +/- 0.1 eV. FTIR spectra suggest that at saturation two different sites for CO adsorption exist on a single Pd atom. The vibrational frequency of the most stable, singly adsorbed CO molecule is 2055 cm(-)(1). Density functional cluster model calculations have been used to model possible defect sites at the MgO surface where the Pd atoms are likely to be adsorbed. CO/Pd complexes located at regular or low-coordinated O anions of the surface exhibit considerably stronger binding energies, E(b) = 2-2.5 eV, and larger vibrational shifts than were observed in the experiment. CO/Pd complexes located at oxygen vacancies (F or F(+) centers) are characterized by much smaller binding energies, E(b) = 0.5 +/- 0.2 or 0.7 +/- 0.2 eV, which are in agreement with the experimental value. CO/Pd complexes located at the paramagnetic F(+) centers show vibrational frequencies in closest agreement with the experimental data. These comparisons therefore suggest that the Pd atoms are mainly adsorbed at oxygen vacancies.  相似文献

A direct method is proposed for determining polyatomic potential energy functions, expressed in terms of normal coordinates, which yield a given set of vibrational excitation energies. The method is a modification of the semiclassical technique for computing vibrational energy levels of Percival and Pomphrey. The technique is used to derive potential functions for the NO2, SO2 and ClO2 molecules. With these potentials twenty two higher vibrational excitations energies have been predicted for these molecules and these results differ from the experimental values by at most 3 cm?1. The computed potential functions are not unique despite the apparent accuracy of the vibrational energy levels. Comparison with the RKR method indicates that the present method must be extended to include rotational perturbations.  相似文献

The intramolecular wave packet dynamics on the electronic B (3pi0) potential of Br2 in solid argon is induced and interrogated by femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. An effective potential of the chromophore in the solid is derived from the wave packet period for different excitation photon energies. Deep in the potential well, it is consistent with vibrational energies from wavelength-resolved spectra. It extends to higher energies, where the vibrational bands merge to a continuum, and even beyond the dissociation limit, thus quantifying the cage effect of the argon matrix. This advantage of pump-probe spectroscopy is related to a reduced contribution of homogeneous and inhomogeneous line broadenings. The vibrational energy relaxation rates are determined by a variation of the probe window spatial position via the probe quantum energy. A very large energy loss in the first excursion of the wave packet is observed near the dissociation limit. This strong interaction with the argon matrix is directly displayed in an experimental trajectory.  相似文献

Very accurate calculations of the pure vibrational spectrum of the HeH(+) ion are reported. The method used does not assume the Born-Oppenheimer approximation, and the motion of both the electrons and the nuclei are treated on equal footing. In such an approach the vibrational motion cannot be decoupled from the motion of electrons, and thus the pure vibrational states are calculated as the states of the system with zero total angular momentum. The wave functions of the states are expanded in terms of explicitly correlated Gaussian basis functions multipled by even powers of the internuclear distance. The calculations yielded twelve bound states and corresponding eleven transition energies. Those are compared with the pure vibrational transition energies extracted from the experimental rovibrational spectrum.  相似文献

Ab initio molecular orbital (MO ) calculations with the 3-21G and 6-31G basis sets are carried out on a series of complexes of NH3 with Li+, C?N?, LiCN, and its isomer LiNC. The BSSE -corrected interaction energies, geometrical parameters, internal force constants, and harmonic vibrational frequencies are evaluated for 15 species. Complexes with trifurcated (C3v) structures are calculated to be saddle points on the potential energy surfaces and have one imaginary frequency each. Calculated energies, geometrical parameters, internal force constants, and harmonic vibrational frequencies of the various species considered are discussed in terms of the nature of association of LiCN with ammonia. The vibrational frequencies of the relevant complexed species are compared with the experimental frequencies reported earlier for solutions of lithium cyanide in liquid ammonia. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献
