Abstract

In this study the effect of the dose and particle size of the adsorbent, initial dye concentration, initial pH, contact time and temperature were investigated for the removal of by means of fly ash (FA) methylene blue (MB) from an aqueous solution. The FA dose was found to be 2.0?g and the under 270 mesh sized particles were found to be effective particles for adsorption. The adsorption process reached its maximum value at 0.5?mg/L dye concentration and attained equilibrium within 10?minutes. The adsorption isotherm was found to follow the Langmuir model. The estimated adsorption free energy (ΔGo), enthalpy change (ΔHo), and entropy change (ΔSo) for the adsorption process were ?37.77?kJ mol?1, ?13.44?kJ mol?1 and 122 J mol?1 K?1 respectively at 298 K. The maximum adsorption capacity is 0,12?mg g?1 at 298 K and 0,07?mg g?1 at 398 K. The adsorption process was exothermic, feasible and spontaneous. The positive value of ΔSo shows the affinity of FA for MB while the low value of ΔGo suggests a physical adsorption process.  相似文献

The aim of the present investigation was to immobilize nanocrystalline diatomite within calcium alginate matrix for the adsorption of Direct Red23 (DR23) in aqueous media. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy were used to characterize the samples. As a result, the adsorption process obeyed pseudo-second-order kinetic model (R2 = 0.9934) and Langmuir isotherm model (R2 = 0.9732) with a maximum adsorption capacity of 24.10 mg/g. The value of mean free energy (15.81 kJ/mol) demonstrated that the process has been taken place chemically. As the adsorbent dosage increased from 0.5 to 3.0 g/L, the decolorization efficiency (%) increased from 26.0 to 75.5%, respectively. Inversely, the decolorization efficiency (%) decreased from 98.0 to 29.0% with increasing initial dye concentration from 5 to 160 mg/L, respectively. The negative values obtained for Gibbs free energy (ΔG°) and positive value of enthalpy change (ΔH°) indicated spontaneous and endothermic nature of the process.  相似文献

Adsorption of Cu(II) from aqueous solution on a novel adsorbent, silicon carbide ash (SiC ash), was studied using batch technique. The adsorbent was prepared by pyrolysis of Egyptian rice waste (rice straw and rice husk) and was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive x-ray (EDX), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction (XRD), and surface area analysis by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) Theory. The influence of pH, contact time, initial Cu(II) concentration, adsorbent dose, agitation speed, and temperature was investigated. Adsorption kinetics was analyzed using the pseudo-first-order, the pseudo-second-order, and intraparticular diffusion model. The adsorption process was found to follow a pseudo-second-order rate mechanism. The adsorption isotherm data could be well described by the Langmuir and Freundlich than the Dubinin–Radushkevich adsorption model. The adsorption capacity of 22.06 mg g?1for SiC ash was obtained at pH = 5 and temperature of 298 K. Thermodynamic parameters, change in the free energy (ΔG°), the enthalpy (ΔH°), and the entropy (ΔS°), were also calculated. The overall adsorption process was exothermic, spontaneous in nature, and proceeds with decreased randomness as the entropy is negative value. Adsorption process was successfully applied to remove Cu(II) from an industrial wastewater sample.  相似文献

This study evaluated the feasibility of Rhodamine-B dye (Rh B) removal from aqueous solution, using Lead-Iron Oxide nanoparticles Loaded Activated Carbon (FePbO@AC). The parameters like pH, contact time, adsorbent/adsorbate dosage and temperature on adsorption was studied. Optimized conditions are pH of 7.0, 25?min contact time, 50?ppm of dye concentration and 200?mg of adsorbent concentration. The kinetics of adsorption was calculated using pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intra-particle diffusion models. The calculations revealed that the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation best-fit the adsorption data. The Langmuir isotherm model best fit the equilibrium data. The maximum sorption capacity (Qmax) for dye is 1000?mg Rh B/g FePbO@AC. Change in entropy (ΔS), Gibb’s free energy change (ΔG), and enthalpy (ΔH) were calculated for the adsorption of Rh B dye.  相似文献

PVA functionalized with vinylphosphonic acid was prepared as a new adsorbent for uranyl (VI) adsorption from aqueous solutions. The vinylphosphonic acid was cografted onto PVA fibers by preirradiation grafting technique. The adsorbent were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The adsorbent was observed to possess a fibrous structure and was bonded with phosphonic acid groups successfully. The adsorbent was used for the adsorption of low levels uranyl (VI) ions from aqueous solutions. The influence of analytical parameters including pH, adsorption time, amount of adsorbent, metal ion concentration, and temperature were investigated on the recovery of uranyl (VI) ion in aqueous solution. The maximum adsorption capacity (32.1 mg g?1) and fast equilibrium time (30 min) were achieved at pH of 4.5 at room temperature. Thermodynamic parameters (ΔH° = 2.695 kJ mol?1; ΔS° = 31.15 J mol?1 K?1; ΔG° = ?6.748 kJ mol?1) show the adsorption of an exothermic process and spontaneous nature, respectively. The possible coordination mechanism was illustrated. Adsorption and desorption coexist in aqueous solutions and then the system becomes equilibrium.  相似文献

In pursuit of improving performance of the methylene blue adsorption process, the potential of a novel 4A-zeolite/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) membrane adsorbent was investigated. Adding 4A-zeolite particles to the PVA membrane adsorbent provided an effective structure for the adsorptive membrane in dye removal processes. Effect of zeolite content was also studied via synthesis of different mixed matrix membrane adsorbents (MMMAs) with 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt% 4A-zeolite content. Morphology of MMMAs was analyzed by scanning electron microscope and the intermolecular interactions were determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction was performed to determine the crystal structure of MMMAs. For the sake of finding optimum condition, the adsorption capacity was examined at various operating parameters, such as contact time, temperature, pH, and initial concentration. The maximum value of the adsorption capacity (q e) of 41.08 mg g?1 and the highest removal efficiency of 87.41 % were obtained by applying 20 wt% loading of 4A-zeolite. The experimental data were fitted well with the Freundlich adsorption isotherm model (R 2 = 0.9917) compared with the Langmuir (R 2 = 0.9489) and the Tempkin (R 2 = 0.8886) adsorption isotherm models, and the adsorption kinetic data verified the best fitting with the pseudo-second-order model (R 2 = 0.9999). The estimated data for Gibb’s free energy (ΔG°) showed that the adsorption process is spontaneous at lower temperature values and non-spontaneous at higher temperature values. Other evaluated thermodynamic parameters such as changing in enthalpy (ΔH°) and entropy (ΔS°) revealed that the adsorption process is exothermic with an increase in orderliness at the solid/solution interface.  相似文献

Removal of methylene blue by tea wastages from the synthesis waste waters   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The tea wastages could remove methylene blue(MB) as a cationic dye from waste water corresponding to second-order kinetic model.Thermodynamic studies showed that adsorption equilibrium constant(KL) and maximum adsorption capacities(Qmax) were increased with increasing temperature. The removal efficiency of MB for Co 0.01 mmol/L at optimum conditions was about 85%. The maximum uptake capacity(Qmax) of methylene blue in a batch reactor was 0.328,0.542 and 0.659 mmol/g at 15,25 and 40℃, respectively. The enthalpy change(ΔH) and entropy change(ΔS) were 11.356 kJ/mol and 20.563 J/(mol K),respectively.  相似文献

Kitchen waste hydrolysis residue (KWHR), which is produced in the bioproduction process from kitchen waste (KW), is usually wasted with potential threats to the environment. Herein, experiments were carried out to evaluate the potential of KWHR as adsorbent for dye (methylene blue, MB) removal from aqueous solution. The adsorbent was characterized using FT-IR and SEM. Adsorption results showed that the operating variables had great effects on the removal efficiency of MB. Kinetic study indicated pseudo-second-order model was suitable to describe the adsorption process. Afterwards, the equilibrium data were well fitted by using Langmuir isotherm model, suggesting a monolayer adsorption. The Langmuir monolayer adsorption capacity was calculated to be 110.13 mg/g, a level comparable to some other low-cost adsorbents. It was found that the adsorption process of MB onto KWHR was spontaneous and exothermic through the estimation of thermodynamic parameters. Thus, KWHR was of great potential to be an alternative adsorbent material to improve the utilization efficiency of bioresource (KW) and lower the cost of adsorbent for color treatment.  相似文献

The potential of using rice straw fly ash (RSFA) as low-cost adsorbents for the removal of hazardous azorhodanine (AR) dye from aqueous solution was investigated. The effects of different variables in the batch method as a function of solution pH, contact time, concentration of adsorbate, adsorbent dosage, and temperature were investigated, and optimal experimental conditions were ascertained: 0.05 g for initial dye concentration of 20–100 mg/L at pH 2. The experimental equilibrium data were tested by the isotherm models, namely the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption and the isotherm constants were determined. The kinetic models, pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order, were employed to analyze the kinetic data. The activation energy of adsorption was also evaluated and found to be +10.89 kJ.mol?1, indicating that the adsorption is physisorption. Various thermodynamic parameters, such as Gibbs free energy, entropy, and enthalpy of the ongoing adsorption process, have been calculated and found to be spontaneous and exothermic, respectively.  相似文献

Kinetic, equilibrium, and thermodynamic studies were performed for the batch adsorption of methylene blue (MB) on the high lime fly ash as a low cost adsorbent material. The studied operating variables were adsorbent amount, contact time, dye concentration, and temperature. The kinetic data were analyzed using the pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order kinetic models and the adsorption kinetic was followed well by the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The equilibrium data were fitted with the Freundlich, Langmuir, and Dubinin Radushkevich (D–R) isotherms and the equilibrium data were found to be well represented by the Freundlich and D–R isotherms. Based on these two isotherms MB is taken by chemical ion exchange and active sites on the high lime fly ash have different affinities to MB molecules. Various thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy of adsorption (ΔH°), free energy change (ΔG°), and entropy change (ΔS°) were investigated. The positive value of ΔH° and negative value of ΔG° indicate that the adsorption is endothermic and spontaneous. The positive value of ΔS° shows the increased randomness at the solid–liquid interface during the adsorption. A single-stage batch adsorber was also designed based on the Freundlich isotherm for the removal of MB by the high lime fly ash.  相似文献

Dye adsorption on graphite oxides, which were prepared by different methods, was compared for the first time. The adsorption process was followed using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, while the adsorbents before and after adsorption were characterized using physicochemical and spectroscopic techniques. Surprisingly, we found that higher oxidation degree of graphite oxide resulted in higher adsorption efficiency for methylene blue (MB), while the ultrasonic exfoliation of graphite oxide impaired the adsorption efficiency. Among all samples investigated, graphite oxide prepared by modified Hummers' method (HmGO) before ultrasonic exfoliation exhibited the best adsorption capacity of MB. It is pretty high compared with other reported absorbents for MB. The experiment conditions such as pH, adsorbent dosage, stirring speed and adsorption time on adsorption of MB on graphite oxide, as well as adsorption kinetics and isotherms, were also investigated. The maximum adsorption capacity of graphite oxide is 751.9 mg · g?1 based on the Langmuir model. [Supplementary materials are available for this article. The present study aims to determine the adsorption behaviour of methylene blue (MB) dye based on calix[8]arene-modified lead sulphide (PbS) nanoadsorbents under optimal conditions. Response surface methodology (RSM) was executed to evaluate the interactive effect of three factors (adsorbent dosage, contact time, and pH) on the adsorption of MB dye using a central composite design (CCD). The optimised values for adsorbent dosage, contact time, and pH solution were found to be 45.00 mg of calix[8]arene-modified PbS, contact time of 180 min, and pH 6. This study reports the results of batch adsorption experiments, which include the adsorption capacity, kinetics, and isotherm of the MB adsorption process. Pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order were demonstrated for their quality to fit the data. Pseudo-second order was the best in fitting the adsorption data with the higher R2 values (R2 > 0.928), indicating chemisorption to be the mechanism of adsorption. The Langmuir and Freundlich equilibrium models were employed to determine the isotherm parameters. The equilibrium assessment illustrated that the Langmuir isotherm model fitted well with the adsorption data, and a maximum MB adsorption capacity of 11.90 mg/g was achieved. The characterisation studies with EDX, FESEM, and FTIR indicated a successful synthesis of calix[8]arene-modified PbS.  相似文献

Metal–organic framework sorbents [MIL-100(Fe), MOF-235(Fe)], Fe3O4 nanoparticles and metal–organic framework loaded on iron oxide nanoparticles [Fe3O4@MIL-100(Fe) and Fe3O4@MOF-235(Fe)] were prepared and examined for ciprofloxacin (CIP) removal. The results showed that sorption kinetics of CIP by Fe3O4@MIL-100(Fe) follows the Elovich and pseudo-second-order models indicating that the sorption is both chemisorption and physical adsorption, whereas the sorption to other sorbents occurs mainly by physical sorption. The sorption isotherm studies revealed that Langmuir model provided the best fit to all the experimental data. The thermodynamic studies showed that CIP removal is spontaneous (Δ = 2.28 kJ/mol) and endothermic (Δ = 18.39 kJ/mol). It was also found that among the sorbents investigated for CIP removal, Fe3O4@MIL-100(Fe) has the highest maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 322.58 mg/g.  相似文献

Novel inorganic–organic yolk–shell microspheres based on Preyssler‐type NaP5W30O11014? polyoxometalate and MIL‐101(Cr) metal–organic framework (P5W30/MIL‐101(Cr)) were synthesized by reaction of K12.5Na1.5[NaP5W30O110], Cr(NO3)3·9H2O and terephthalic acid under hydrothermal conditions at 200°C for 24 h. The as‐prepared yolk–shell microspheres were fully characterized using various techniques. All analyses confirmed the incorporation of the Preyssler‐type NaP5W30O11014? polyoxometalate into the three‐dimensional porous MIL‐101(Cr) metal–organic framework. The results revealed that P5W30/MIL‐101(Cr) demonstrated rapid adsorption of cationic methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (RhB) with ultrahigh efficiency and capacity, as well as achieving rapid and highly selective adsorption of MB from MB/MO (MO = methyl orange), MB/RhB and MB/RhB/MO mixtures. The P5W30/MIL‐101(Cr) adsorbent not only exhibited a high adsorption capacity of 212 mg g?1, but also could quickly remove 100% of MB from a dye solution of 50 mg l?1 within 8 min. The effects of some key parameters such as adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration and initial pH on dye adsorption were investigated in detail. The equilibrium adsorption data were better fitted by the Langmuir isotherm. The adsorption kinetics was well modelled using a pseudo‐second‐order model. Also, the inorganic–organic hybrid yolk–shell microspheres could be easily separated from the reaction system and reused up to four times without any change in structure or adsorption ability. The stability and robustness of the adsorbent were confirmed using various techniques.  相似文献

Adsorption of anionic dyes onto most of zeolites with net negative charge may be restricted. In this article, a natural nanoclinoptilolite was modified with Cu and the obtained nanomaterial was used as an effective adsorbent for removal of methyl red as an anionic model azo dye up to 90% in 20 min.This new adsorbent was characterized utilizing X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Also, effects of methyl red concentration, mass of sorbent and pH on the removal percent were examined. Moreover, the adsorption mechanism was investigated by plotting the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms. The results showed that the data can be fitted with both models. The most adsorption capacity obtained from Langmuir isotherm was about 200 mg/g. Moreover, the Cu modified nanoclinoptilolite was successfully employed for adsorption of another anionic dye, bromothymol blue. The results confirmed that this new adsorbent can be effectively applied for removing of anionic dyes from waste waters.  相似文献

In this study, an amidoximated chelating ion exchange resin was prepared by poly-acrylonitrile (PAN) grafted potato starch. The adsorbent characterizations such as specific surface area, pore volume, average pore radius, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum of the resin were measured. The effects of pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time, initial concentration of thorium ion, and temperature on adsorption of thorium ion from aqueous solutions were investigated. Four isotherm models including Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin-Radushkevich, and Temkin were applied to analyze the equilibrium isotherm data. The results showed that Langmuir and Temkin models had a good agreement with experimental data. The maximum capacity of the adsorbent using the Langmuir isotherm model was 227.27 mg · g?1. The kinetic models like pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, Elovich, and intraparticle were examined to describe the adsorption process. The kinetics of the adsorption process was found to follow the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The thermodynamic parameters (ΔG°, ΔH°, ΔS°) were also calculated using equilibrium constant values at various temperatures (25, 35, 45, 55°C) and the positive value for ΔH° showed an endothermic adsorption process. The study suggests that the prepared adsorbent has promising potential for the removal of thorium from wastewaters.   相似文献

Utilizing a new microwave-assisted method, CuCoFe2O4@Chitosan (Ch) was synthesized as a very strong, magnetically separable nano-adsorbent. The magnetic nanohybrid adsorbent was characterized by FESEM (Field emission scanning electron microscopy), EDS (energy dispersive X-ray), Mapping & Linescan, BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller), FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy), XRD (X-ray diffraction analysis), TGA (Thermogravimetric analysis), and VSM (Vibrating Sample Magnetometer) techniques. Then, the adsorption process of Tetracycline (TC) was investigated. The highest percentage of pollutant adsorption on the synthetic and real samples was recorded at an initial concentration of 5 mg/L, pH 3.5, contact time of 20 min, the dose of 0.4 g/L, and temperature of 25 °C, 93.07 %, and 67%, respectively. The TC adsorption process via the synthesized magnetic nanocomposite was consistent with the Freundlich isotherm model (R2 = 0.992) and pseudo-second-order kinetic (K2 = 0.267). The outcomes of thermodynamic analyses, which included entropy changes (ΔS = 10.122 J/mol.k), enthalpy changes (ΔH = ?1.975 kJ/mol), and the Gibbs negative free energy (ΔG = ?4.992 kJ/mol), revealed that the adsorption process was spontaneous, favorable, and exothermic. The good magnetic properties allow easy separation after the adsorption operation. Finally, the efficiency of the nano-adsorbent in the removal process was 82.16% after four adsorption–desorption cycles. Some advantages of this research are a fast and green method for synthesis of adsorbent, fast kinetic, and magnetic properties to easy separation.  相似文献

A batch system was applied to study the adsorption behavior of methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (RB) in single and binary component systems on natural zeolite. In the single component systems, the zeolite presents higher adsorption capacity for MB than RB with the maximal adsorption capacity of 7.95×10?5 and 1.26×10?5 mol/g at 55°C for MB and RB, respectively. Kinetic studies indicated that the adsorption followed pseudo‐second‐ order kinetics and could be described by a two‐step diffusion process. For the single component systems, the adsorption isotherm could be fitted by the Langmuir model. In the binary component system, MB and RB exhibit competitive adsorption on the zeolite. The adsorption is approximately reduced to 50% and 60% of single component adsorption systems of MB and RB, respectively at an initial concentration of 6×10?6 mol·L?1 at 25°C. In the binary component system, kinetic and adsorption isotherm studies demonstrate that the experimental data are following pseudo‐second‐order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm and kinetic data are fairly described by a two‐step diffusion model. Effect of solution pH on adsorption of MB and RB in both single and binary component systems was studied and the results were described by electrostatic interactions.  相似文献
