In this paper we consider collections of compact (resp. Cp class) operators on arbitrary Banach (resp. Hilbert) spaces. For a subring R of reals, it is proved that an R-algebra of compact operators with spectra in R on an arbitrary Banach space is triangularizable if and only if every member of the algebra is triangularizable. It is proved that every triangularizability result on certain collections, e.g., semigroups, of compact operators on a complex Banach (resp. Hilbert) space gives rise to its counterpart on a real Banach (resp. Hilbert) space. We use our main results to present new proofs as well as extensions of certain classical theorems (e.g., those due to Kolchin, McCoy, and others) on arbitrary Banach (resp. Hilbert) spaces.  相似文献

We compute the essential norm of a composition operator relatively to the class of Dunford-Pettis operators or weakly compact operators, on some uniform algebras of analytic functions. Even in the context of H (resp. the disk algebra), this is new, as well for the polydisk algebras and the polyball algebras. This is a consequence of a general study of weighted composition operators.   相似文献

In this paper we study the robustness properties of strong and polynomial stability of semigroups of operators. We show that polynomial stability of a semigroup is robust with respect to a large and easily identifiable class of perturbations to its infinitesimal generator. The presented results apply to general polynomially stable semigroups and bounded perturbations. The conditions on the perturbations generalize well-known criteria for the preservation of exponential stability of semigroups. We also show that the general results can be improved if the perturbation is of finite rank or if the semigroup is generated by a Riesz-spectral operator. The theory is applied to deriving concrete conditions for the preservation of stability of a strongly stabilized one-dimensional wave equation.  相似文献

It is proved that a Lie algebra of compact operators with a non-zero Volterra ideal is reducible (has a nontrivial invariant subspace). A number of other criteria of reducibility for collections of operators is obtained. The results are applied to the structure theory of Lie algebras of compact operators and normed Lie algebras with compact adjoint action.  相似文献

We show that if a small holomorphic Sobolev space on the unit disk is not just small but very small, then a trivial necessary condition is also sufficient for a composition operator to be bounded. A similar result for holomorphic Lipschitz spaces is also obtained. These results may be viewed as boundedness analogues of Shapiro’s theorem concerning compact composition operators on small spaces. We also prove the converse of Shapiro’s theorem if the symbol function is already contained in the space under consideration. In the course of the proofs we characterize the bounded composition operators on the Zygmund class. Also, as a by-product of our arguments, we show that small holomorphic Sobolev spaces are algebras.  相似文献

In this paper, the continuity of consequence operators is introduced. Relations between consequence operators and their associated information algebras are mainly explored. It is shown that, for any given consequence operator, the associated information algebra can be directly constructed without any additional conditions.Furthermore, if the consequence operators are continous or compact, then the associated information algebras are continuous or compact.  相似文献

Let B be a unital commutative semi-simple Banach algebra. We study endomorphisms of B which are also quasicompact operators or Riesz operators. Clearly compact and power compact endomorphisms are Riesz and hence quasicompact. Several general theorems about quasicompact endomorphisms are proved, and these results are then applied to the question of when quasicompact or Riesz endomorphisms of certain algebras are necessarily power compact.  相似文献

In this paper, we construct representatives for all equivalence classes of the unital essential extension algebras of Cuntz algebra by the C*-algebras of compact operators on a separable infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. We also compute their K-groups and semigroups and classify these extension algebras up to isomorphism by their semigroups.  相似文献

We study self-adjoint semigroups of partial isometries on a Hilbert space. These semigroups coincide precisely with faithful representations of abstract inverse semigroups. Groups of unitary operators are specialized examples of self-adjoint semigroups of partial isometries. We obtain a general structure result showing that every self-adjoint semigroup of partial isometries consists of “generalized weighted composition” operators on a space of square-integrable Hilbert-space valued functions. If the semigroup is finitely generated then the underlying measure space is purely atomic, so that the semigroup is represented as “zero-unitary” matrices. The same is true if the semigroup contains a compact operator, in which case it is not even required that the semigroup be self-adjoint.  相似文献

We introduce a new class of operator algebras on Hilbert space. To each bounded linear operator a spectral algebra is associated. These algebras are quite substantial, each containing the commutant of the associated operator, frequently as a proper subalgebra. We establish several sufficient conditions for a spectral algebra to have a nontrivial invariant subspace. When the associated operator is compact this leads to a generalization of Lomonosov's theorem.  相似文献

A mapping between Banach spaces is said to be polynomially continuous if its restriction to any bounded set is uniformly continuous for the weak polynomial topology. Every compact (linear) operator is polynomially continuous. We prove that every polynomially continuous operator is weakly compact. Supported in part by DGICYT Project PB 93-0452 (Spain).  相似文献

We show that finitely subgraded Lie algebras of compact operators have invariant subspaces when conditions of quasinilpotence are imposed on certain components of the subgrading. This allows us to obtain some useful information about the structure of such algebras. As an application, we prove a number of results on the existence of invariant subspaces for algebraic structures of compact operators, in particular for Jordan algebras and Lie triple systems of Volterra operators. Along the way we obtain new criteria for the triangularizability of a Lie algebra of compact operators. In this paper, we define and study the left and the right generalized Drazin inverse of bounded operators in a Banach space. We show that the left (resp. the right) generalized Drazin inverse is a sum of a left invertible (resp. a right invertible) operator and a quasi-nilpotent one. In particular, we define the left and the right generalized Drazin spectra of a bounded operator and also show that these sets are compact in the complex plane and invariant under additive commuting quasi-nilpotent perturbations. Furthermore, we prove that a bounded operator is left generalized Drazin invertible if and only if its adjoint is right generalized Drazin invertible. An equivalent definition of the pseudo-Fredholm operators in terms of the left generalized Drazin invertible operators is also given. Our obtained results are used to investigate some relationships between the left and right generalized Drazin spectra and other spectra founded in Fredholm theory.  相似文献

Using the notion of thin sets we prove a theorem of Weyl type for the Wolf essential spectrum ofTβ (H). *Further we show that Weyl’s theorem holds for a restriction convexoid operator and consequently modify some results of Berberian. Finally we show that Weyl’s theorem holds for a paranormal operator and that a polynomially compact paranormal operator is a compact perturbation of a diagnoal normal operator. A structure theorem for polynomially compact paranormal operators is also given.  相似文献

We prove general theorems on mean ergodicity and mean stability of regularized solution families with respect to fairly general summability methods. They can be applied to integrated solution families, integrated semigroups and cosine functions. In particular, through applications with modified Cesàro, Abel, Gauss, and Gamma like summability methods we deduce particular results on mean ergodicity and mean stability of polynomially bounded C0-semigroups and cosine operator functions.  相似文献

We introduce the class of operators on Banach spaces having property (H) and study Weyl’s theorems, and related results for operators which satisfy this property. We show that a- Weyl’s theorem holds for every decomposable operator having property (H). We also show that a-Weyl’s theorem holds for every multiplier T of a commutative semi-simple regular Tauberian Banach algebra. In particular every convolution operator Tμ of a group algebra L1(G), G a locally compact abelian group, satisfies a-Weyl’s theorem. Similar results are given for multipliers of other important commutative Banach algebras.  相似文献

We investigate some subtle and interesting phenomena in the duality theory of operator spaces and operator algebras, and give several applications of the surprising fact that certain maps are always weak*-continuous on dual spaces. In particular, if X is a subspace of a C*-algebra A, and if aA satisfies aXX, then we show that the function x?ax on X is automatically weak* continuous if either (a) X is a dual operator space, or (b) a*XX and X is a dual Banach space. These results hinge on a generalization to Banach modules of Tomiyama's famous theorem on contractive projections onto a C*-subalgebra. Applications include a new characterization of the σ-weakly closed (possibly nonunital and nonselfadjoint) operator algebras, and a generalization of the theory of W*-modules to the framework of modules over such algebras. We also give a Banach module characterization of σ-weakly closed spaces of operators which are invariant under the action of a von Neumann algebra.  相似文献

Jordan operator algebras are norm‐closed spaces of operators on a Hilbert space which are closed under the Jordan product. The discovery of the present paper is that there exists a huge and tractable theory of possibly nonselfadjoint Jordan operator algebras; they are far more similar to associative operator algebras than was suspected. We initiate the theory of such algebras.  相似文献

The class of weakly compact operators is, as well as the class of compact operators, a fundamental operator ideal. They were investigated strongly in the last twenty years. In this survey, we have collected and ordered some of this (partly very new) knowledge. We have also included some comments, remarks and examples.  相似文献
