Noncentral quadratic forms of the skew elliptical variables   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper the quadratic forms in the skew elliptical variables are studied. A family of the noncentral generalized Dirichlet distributions is introduced and their distribution functions and probability density functions are obtained. The moment generating functions of the quadratic forms in the skew normal variables are obtained. Sufficient and necessary conditions for the quadratic forms in the skew normal variables to have the noncentral generalized Dirichlet distributions are obtained. This leads to the noncentral Cochran's Theorem for the skew normal distribution.  相似文献

For a class of multivariate skew normal distributions, the noncentral skew chi-square distribution is studied. The necessary and sufficient conditions under which a sequence of quadratic forms is generalized noncentral skew chi-square distributed random variables are obtained. Several examples are given to illustrate the results.  相似文献

Let Y be an n×p multivariate normal random matrix with general covariance ΣY and W be a symmetric matrix. In the present article, the property that a matrix quadratic form YWY is distributed as a difference of two independent (noncentral) Wishart random matrices is called the (noncentral) generalized Laplacianness (GL). Then a set of algebraic results are obtained which will give the necessary and sufficient conditions for the (noncentral) GL of a matrix quadratic form. Further, two extensions of Cochran’s theorem concerning the (noncentral) GL and independence of a family of matrix quadratic forms are developed.  相似文献

The study of the noncentral matrix variate beta type distributions has been sidelined because the final expressions for the densities depend on an integral that has not been resolved in an explicit way. We derive an exact expression for the nonnull distribution of Wilks’ statistic and precise expressions for the densities of the ratio and product of two independent components of matrix variates where one matrix variate has the noncentral matrix variate beta type I distribution and the other has the matrix variate beta type I distribution. We provide the expressions for the densities of the determinant of the ratio and the product of these two components. These distributions play a fundamental role in various areas of statistics, for example in the criteria proposed by Wilks.  相似文献

A new class of multivariate skew-normal distributions, fundamental skew-normal distributions and their canonical version, is developed. It contains the product of independent univariate skew-normal distributions as a special case. Stochastic representations and other main properties of the associated distribution theory of linear and quadratic forms are considered. A unified procedure for extending this class to other families of skew distributions such as the fundamental skew-symmetric, fundamental skew-elliptical, and fundamental skew-spherical class of distributions is also discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, a family of the skew elliptical distributions is defined and investigated. Some basic properties, such as stochastic representation, marginal and conditional distributions, distribution under linear transformations, moments and moment generating function are derived. The joint distribution of several quadratic forms is obtained. An example is given to show that the distributions of some statistics as the functions of the quadratic forms can be derived for various applications.  相似文献

Assuming that Y has a singular matrix variate elliptically contoured distribution with respect to the Hausdorff measure, the distributions of several matrices associated to QR, modified QR, SV and polar decompositions of matrix Y are determined, for central and non-central, non-singular and singular cases, as well as their relationship to the Wishart and pseudo-Wishart generalized singular and non-singular distributions. Some of these results are also applied to two particular subfamilies of elliptical distributions, the singular matrix variate normal distribution and the singular matrix variate symmetric Pearson type VII distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, the asymptotic properties of the quadratic forms and the T statistic of the skew elliptical variables are studied. Consistent estimators of some parameters are obtained. The robustness of the significance level of the one-sided t test within the family of the skew normal family is investigated.  相似文献

Noncentral elliptical configuration density   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The noncentral configuration density, derived under an elliptical model, generalizes and corrects the Gaussian configuration and some Pearson results. Partition theory is then used to obtain explicit configuration densities associated with matrix variate symmetric Kotz type distributions (including the normal distribution), matrix variate Pearson type VII distributions (including t and Cauchy distributions), the matrix variate symmetric Bessel distribution (including the Laplace distribution) and the matrix variate symmetric Jensen-logistic distribution.  相似文献

Several matrix variate hypergeometric type distributions are derived. The compound distributions of left-spherical matrix variate elliptical distributions and inverted hypergeometric type distributions with matrix arguments are then proposed. The scale mixture of left-spherical matrix variate elliptical distributions and univariate inverted hypergeometric type distributions is also derived as a particular case of the compound distribution approach.  相似文献

Summary Crowther [2] studied the distribution of a quadratic form in a matrix normal variate. This, in some sense, is extended by De Waal [4]. They represented the density function of this quadratic form in terms of generalized Hayakawa polynomials. Application of some specific results of these authors facilitates the derivation of distributions of quadratic forms of the matric-t variate. Attention is also given to the distributions of the characteristic roots and the trace of this quadratic matrix. Special cases are considered and some useful integrals are formulated. For the family of multivariate normal distribution functions, Stein's Lemma presents a useful tool for calculating covariances between functions of the component random variables. Motivated by applications to corporate finance, we prove a generalization of Stein's Lemma to the family of elliptical distributions.  相似文献

In this paper, we determine the symmetrised density of doubly noncentral singular matrix variate beta type I and II distributions under different definitions. As particular cases we obtain the noncentral singular matrix variate beta type I and II distributions and the corresponding joint density of the nonnull eigenvalues. In addition, we propose an alternative approach to find the corresponding nonsymmetrised densities. From the latter, we solve the integral proposed by Constantine [Noncentral distribution problems in multivariate analysis, Ann. Math. Statist. 34 (1963) 1270-1285] and Khatri [A note on Mitra's paper “A density free approach to the matrix variate beta distribution”, Sankhyā A 32 (1970) 311-318] and reconsidered in Farrell [Multivariate Calculation: Use of the Continuous Groups, Springer Series in Statistics, Springer, New York, 1985, p. 191], see also Díaz-García and Gutiérrez-Jáimez [Noncentral matrix variate beta distribution, Comunicación Técnica, No. I-06-06 (PE/CIMAT), Guanajuato, México, 2006, 〈http://www.cimat.mx/biblioteca/RepTec/index.html?m=2〉], for the singular and nonsingular cases.  相似文献

In this paper we study the properties of a kurtosis matrix and propose its eigenvectors as interesting directions to reveal the possible cluster structure of a data set. Under a mixture of elliptical distributions with proportional scatter matrix, it is shown that a subset of the eigenvectors of the fourth-order moment matrix corresponds to Fisher’s linear discriminant subspace. The eigenvectors of the estimated kurtosis matrix are consistent estimators of this subspace and its calculation is easy to implement and computationally efficient, which is particularly favourable when the ratio n/p is large.  相似文献

This paper establishes a link between a generalized matrix Matsumoto-Yor (MY) property and the Wishart distribution. This link highlights certain conditional independence properties within blocks of the Wishart and leads to a new characterization of the Wishart distribution similar to the one recently obtained by Geiger and Heckerman but involving independences for only three pairs of block partitionings of the random matrix. In the process, we obtain two other main results. The first one is an extension of the MY independence property to random matrices of different dimensions. The second result is its converse. It extends previous characterizations of the matrix generalized inverse Gaussian and Wishart seen as a couple of distributions. We present two proofs for the generalized MY property. The first proof relies on a new version of Herz's identity for Bessel functions of matrix arguments. The second proof uses a representation of the MY property through the structure of the Wishart.  相似文献

This paper introduces generalized skew-elliptical distributions (GSE), which include the multivariate skew-normal, skew-t, skew-Cauchy, and skew-elliptical distributions as special cases. GSE are weighted elliptical distributions but the distribution of any even function in GSE random vectors does not depend on the weight function. In particular, this holds for quadratic forms in GSE random vectors. This property is beneficial for inference from non-random samples. We illustrate the latter point on a data set of Australian athletes.  相似文献

This work presents a Bayesian semiparametric approach for dealing with regression models where the covariate is measured with error. Given that (1) the error normality assumption is very restrictive, and (2) assuming a specific elliptical distribution for errors (Student-t for example), may be somewhat presumptuous; there is need for more flexible methods, in terms of assuming only symmetry of errors (admitting unknown kurtosis). In this sense, the main advantage of this extended Bayesian approach is the possibility of considering generalizations of the elliptical family of models by using Dirichlet process priors in dependent and independent situations. Conditional posterior distributions are implemented, allowing the use of Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC), to generate the posterior distributions. An interesting result shown is that the Dirichlet process prior is not updated in the case of the dependent elliptical model. Furthermore, an analysis of a real data set is reported to illustrate the usefulness of our approach, in dealing with outliers. Finally, semiparametric proposed models and parametric normal model are compared, graphically with the posterior distribution density of the coefficients.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to propose a simple method in order to evaluate the (approximate) distribution of matrix quadratic forms when Wishartness conditions do not hold. The method is based upon a factorization of a general Gaussian stochastic matrix as a special linear combination of nonstochastic matrices with the standard Gaussian matrix. An application of previous result is proposed for matrix quadratic forms arising in MANOVA for a multivariate split-plot design with circular dependence structure.  相似文献
