SiH4 and GeH4 dissociative adsorptions on a buckled SiGe(1 0 0)-2 × 1 surface have been analyzed using density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP level. The Ge alloying in the Si(1 0 0)-2 × 1 surface affects the dimer buckling and its surface reactivity. Systematic Ge influences on the reaction energetics are found in SiH4 and GeH4 reactions with four dimers of Si-Si, Ge-Si, Ge-Ge, and Si-Ge (∗ denotes the protruded atom). On a half H-covered surface, the energy barriers for silane and germane adsorption are higher than those on the pristine surface. The energy barrier for silane adsorption is higher than the corresponding barrier for germane adsorption. Rate constants are also calculated using the transition-state theory. We conclude that the SiGe surface reactivity in adsorption reaction depends on the Ge presence in dimer form. If the surface Ge is present in form of Ge-Ge, the surface reactivity decreases as the Ge-Ge content increases. If the surface Ge prefers to be in form of Ge-Si at low Ge contents, the surface reactivity increases first, then decreases at high Ge surface contents when Ge-Ge prevails. The calculated rate constant ratio of GeH4 adsorption on Si-Si over Ge-Ge at 650 °C is 2.1, which agrees with the experimental ratio of GeH4 adsorption probability on Si(1 0 0) over Si(1 0 0) covered by one monolayer Ge. The experimental ratio is 1.7 measured through supersonic molecular beam techniques. This consistency between calculation and experimental results supports that one monolayer of Ge on Si(1 0 0) exists in form of Ge-Ge dimer.  相似文献

Presented are thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS) and adsorption probability measurements of iso-butane on the Zn-terminated surface of ZnO. The initial adsorption probability, S0, decreases linearly from 0.57 to 0.22 (±0.02) with impact energy, Ei = 0.74-1.92 eV, and is independent of adsorption temperature, Ts = 91-114 K (±5 K), indicating non-activated molecular adsorption. The coverage, Θ, dependent adsorption probabilities, S(Θ), show a cross-over from adsorbate-assisted adsorption (S increases with Θ) to Kisliuk-like dynamics at about the desorption temperature of iso-butane bi-layers (∼110 K). Thus, the adsorption dynamics are precursor-mediated. The enhanced (gas-surface) mass-match, caused by forming a second layer of the alkane, leads to adsorbate-assisted adsorption. A direct fitting procedure of the TDS data yields a pre-exponential factor of 2.5 × 1013/s and a coverage dependent heat of adsorption of Ed(Θ) = 39 − 6 ∗ Θ + 2.5 ∗ exp(−Θ/0.07) kJ/mol.  相似文献

Injection of tunneling electrons and holes from the probe tips of a scanning tunneling microscope was found to enhance the hopping motion of Cl atoms between neighboring dangling-bond sites of Si dimers on Si(1 0 0)-(2 × 1) surfaces, featured by the rate of hopping linearly dependent on the injection current. The hopping rate formed peaks at sample biases of VS∼+1.25 and −0.85 V, which agree with the peaks in the local density of states spectrum measured by scanning tunneling spectroscopy. The Cl hopping was enhanced at Cl-adsorbed sites even remote from the injection point. The Cl hopping by hole injection was more efficiently enhanced by sweeping the tip along the Si dimer row than by tip-sweeping along the perpendicular direction. Such anisotropy, on the other hand, was insignificant in the electron injection case. All of these findings can be interpreted by the model that the holes injected primarily into a surface band originated from the dangling bonds of Si dimers propagate quite anisotropically along the surface, and become localized at Cl sites somehow to destabilize the Si-Cl bonds causing hopping of the Cl atoms. The electrons injected into a bulk band propagate in an isotropic manner and then get resonantly trapped at Si-Cl antibonding orbitals, resulting in bond destabilization and hopping of the Cl atoms.  相似文献

Intermixing, growth, geometric and electronic structures of gold films grown on antiferromagnetic stacking body-centered-tetragonal manganese (0 0 1) films were studied by means of scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy at room temperature in ultra-high vacuum. We found stable ordered c(2 × 2)-MnAu(0 0 1) alloy layers after depositing Au on pure Mn layers. Since at the fourth layer (5 × 23)-like Au reconstruction appears instead of the c(2 × 2) structure and local density of states peaks obtained on the c(2 × 2)-MnAu surface disappear, pure Au layers likely grow from the fourth layer.  相似文献

A soft X-ray appearance potential spectroscopy (SXAPS) apparatus with high sensitivity was built to measure non-derivative spectra. SXAPS spectra (non-derivative) of Ti 2p and O 1s for TiO2(1 1 0)-1 × 2 and (0 0 1)-1 × 1 surfaces have been measured using low incident currents (about 10 μA/cm2) and a photon counting mode. Density of empty states on Ti and O sites are deduced by self-deconvoluting the spectra. The self-deconvoluted SXAPS spectra are qualitatively similar to those measured by X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The Ti 2p3/2 spectrum shows two strong peaks which correspond to t2g and eg states. For the O 1s spectrum two strong peaks near the threshold are also found which can be ascribed to O 2pπ and O 2pσ states. These results suggest that the spectra almost obey the dipole selection rule, so-called the “approximate dipole selection rule”. The SXAPS spectra of Ti 2p and O 1s for the (1 1 0) and (0 0 1) surfaces resemble qualitatively, which is consistent with the XAS results. The spectra measured on the (1 1 0)-1 × 2 surface at an incident angle of 45° off normal to the surface and on the (1 1 0) surface sputtered by Ar ions indicate that SXAPS is very sensitive to the surface electronic states.  相似文献

In this paper the global symmetry of the Hubbard model on a bipartite lattice is found to be larger than SO(4). The model is one of the most studied many-particle quantum problems, yet except in one dimension it has no exact solution, so that there remain many open questions about its properties. Symmetry plays an important role in physics and often can be used to extract useful information on unsolved non-perturbative quantum problems. Specifically, here it is found that for on-site interaction U ≠ 0 the local SU(2) × SU(2) × U(1) gauge symmetry of the Hubbard model on a bipartite lattice with NaD sites and vanishing transfer integral t = 0 can be lifted to a global [SU(2) × SU(2) × U(1)]/Z22 = SO(3) × SO(3) × U(1) symmetry in the presence of the kinetic-energy hopping term of the Hamiltonian with t > 0. (Examples of a bipartite lattice are the D-dimensional cubic lattices of lattice constant a and edge length L = Naa for which D = 1, 2, 3,... in the number NaD of sites.) The generator of the new found hidden independent charge global U(1) symmetry, which is not related to the ordinary U(1) gauge subgroup of electromagnetism, is one half the rotated-electron number of singly occupied sites operator. Although addition of chemical-potential and magnetic-field operator terms to the model Hamiltonian lowers its symmetry, such terms commute with it. Therefore, its 4NaD energy eigenstates refer to representations of the new found global [SU(2) × SU(2) × U(1)]/Z22 = SO(3) × SO(3) × U(1) symmetry. Consistently, we find that for the Hubbard model on a bipartite lattice the number of independent representations of the group SO(3) × SO(3) × U(1) equals the Hilbert-space dimension 4NaD. It is confirmed elsewhere that the new found symmetry has important physical consequences.  相似文献

The adsorption properties of CO on the epitaxial five-monolayer Co/Cu(1 0 0) system, where the Co overlayer has stabilized in the metastable fcc-phase, are reported. This system is known to exhibit metallic quantum well (MQW) states at energies 1 eV or greater above the Fermi level, which may influence CO adsorption. The CO/fcc-Co/Cu(1 0 0) system was explored with low energy electron diffraction (LEED), inverse photoemission (IPE), reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD). Upon CO adsorption, a new feature is observed in IPE at 4.4 eV above EF and is interpreted as the CO 2π level. When adsorbed at room temperature, TPD exhibits a CO desorption peak at ∼355 K, while low temperature adsorption reveals additional binding configurations with TPD features at ∼220 K and ∼265 K. These TPD peak temperatures are correlated with different C-O stretch vibrational frequencies observed in the IR spectra. The adsorption properties of this surface are compared to those of the surfaces of single crystal hcp-Co, as well as other metastable thin film systems.  相似文献

The atomic and electronic structures of the Si(0 0 1)-c(4 × 4) surface have been studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and density functional theory (DFT). To explain the experimental bias dependent STM observations, a modified mixed ad-dimer reconstruction model is introduced. The model involves three tilted Si dimers and a carbon atom incorporated into the third subsurface layer per c(4 × 4) unit cell. The calculated STM images show a close resemblance to the experimental ones.  相似文献

Monte Carlo simulations show that, at one monolayer coverage, H2 molecules adsorbed on a NaCl(0 0 1) surface occupy all Na+ sites and form a commensurate c(2 × 2) structure. If the Cl sites are occupied as well, a bi-layer p(2 × 1) structure forms. An examination of the H2 molecules’ rotational motion shows the molecular axes are azimuthally delocalized and so both of the structures acquire (1 × 1) symmetry in accord with experimental observations. These calculations also show that helicoptering o-H2 (J = 1, m = ±1) prefer to sit on top of Na+ sites, while cartwheeling o-H2 (J = 1, m = 0) prefers to locate over Cl sites, in agreement with other work.  相似文献

Using infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD), we investigated carbon monoxide (CO) adsorption and desorption behaviors on atomic checkerboard structures of Cu and Pd formed by Pd vacuum deposition at various temperatures of Cu(1 0 0). The 0.15-nm-thick Pd deposition onto a clean Cu(1 0 0) surface at room temperature (RT) showed a clear c(2 × 2) low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) pattern, i.e. Cu(1 0 0)-c(2 × 2)-Pd. The RT-CO exposure to the c(2 × 2) surfaces resulted in IRRAS absorption caused by CO adsorbed on the on-top sites of Pd. The LEED patterns of the Pd-deposited Cu(1 0 0) at higher substrate temperatures revealed less-contrasted c(2 × 2) patterns. The IRRAS intensities of the linearly bonded CO bands on 373-K-, 473-K-, and 673-K-deposited c(2 × 2) surfaces are, respectively, 25%, 22%, and 10% less intense than those on the RT-deposited surface, indicating that Pd coverages at the outermost c(2 × 2) surfaces decrease with increasing deposition temperature. In the initial stage of the 90-K-CO exposure to the RT surface, the band attributable to CO bonded to the Pd emerged at 2067 cm−1 and shifted to higher frequencies with increasing CO exposure. At saturation coverage, the band was located at 2093 cm−1. In contrast, two distinct bands around 2090 cm−1 were apparent on the spectrum of the 473-K-deposited surface: the CO saturation spectrum was dominated by an apparent single absorption at 2090 cm−1 for the 673-K-deposited surface. The TPD spectra of the surfaces showed peaks at around 200 and 300 K, which were ascribable respectively to Cu-CO and Pd-CO. Taking into account the TPD and IRRAS results, we discuss the adsorption-desorption behaviors of CO on the ordered checkerboard structures.  相似文献

In response to recent helium atom scattering (HAS) and neutron scattering results, Monte Carlo simulations and perturbation theory calculations have been performed for D2 on MgO(0 0 1). Monte Carlo simulations predict that D2 molecules form a series of interesting structures, p(2 × 2) → p(4 × 2) → p(6 × 2), with coverages Θ = 0.5, 0.75, 0.83 respectively, and followed by a formation of a top layer of p(6 × 2) unit cell symmetry. The three types of mono-layers are stable up to 13 K, whereas the top layer still exists up to 10 K. This is in partial agreement with the neutron scattering and HAS results that report c(2 × 2), c(4 × 2) and c(6 × 2); they agree in terms of coverage and stability, but disagree in terms of symmetry. A quantum mechanical examination of the D2 molecules’ rotational motion shows the molecular axes are azimuthally delocalized and hence the simulated structures are c-type rather than p-type. These calculations also indicate that ortho-D2 and helicoptering para-D2 prefer cationic sites, while cartwheeling para-D2 prefers anionic sites.  相似文献

The far-infrared and middle-infrared emission spectra of deuterated water vapour were measured at temperatures 1370, 1520, and 1940 K in the ranges 320-860 and 1750-3400 cm−1. The measurements were performed in an alumina cell with an effective length of hot gas of about 50 cm. More than 3550 new measured lines for the D216O molecule corresponding to transitions from highly excited rotational levels of the (0 2 0), (1 0 0), and (0 0 1) vibrational states are reported. These new lines correspond to rotational states with higher values of the rotational quantum numbers compared to previously published determinations: Jmax = 29 and Ka(max) = 22 for the (0 2 0) state, Jmax = 29 and Ka(max) = 25 for the (1 0 0) state, and Jmax = 30 and Ka(max) = 23 for the (0 0 1) state. The extended set of 1987 experimental rotational energy levels for the (0 2 0), (1 0 0), and (0 0 1) vibration states including all previously available data has been determined. For the data reduction we used the generating function model. The root mean square (RMS) deviation between observed and calculated values is 0.004 cm−1 for 1952 rovibrational levels of all three vibration states. A comparison of the observed energy levels with the best available values from the literature and with the global predictions from molecular electronic potential energy surfaces of water isotopic species [H. Partridge, D.W. Schwenke, J. Chem. Phys. 106 (1997) 4618] is discussed. The latter confirms a good consistency of mass-dependent DBOC corrections in the PS potential function with new experimental rovibrational data.  相似文献

We have studied hydrogen adsorption on the Ge(1 1 1) c(2 × 8) surface using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES). We find that atomic hydrogen preferentially adsorbs on rest atom sites. The neighbouring adatoms appear higher in STM images, which clearly indicates a charge transfer from the rest atom states to the adatom states. The surface states near the Fermi-level have been followed by ARPES as function of H exposure. Initially, there is strong emission from the rest atom states but no emission at the Fermi-level which confirms the semiconducting character of the c(2 × 8) surface. With increasing H exposure a structure develops in the close vicinity of the Fermi-level. The energy position clearly indicates a metallic character of the H-adsorbed surface. Since the only change in the STM images is the increased brightness of the adatoms neighbouring a H-terminated rest atom, we identify the emission at the Fermi-level with these adatom states.  相似文献

In this paper, the InGa-terminated InGaAs(1 0 0) (4 × 2)/c(8 × 2) surface was studied in detail, which turned out to be the most suitable to develop an InGaAs/GaAsSb interface that is as sharp as possible. In ultra high vacuum the InGaAs surface was investigated with low-energy electron diffraction, scanning tunneling microscopy and UV photoelectron spectroscopy employing synchrotron radiation as light source. Scanning the ΓΔX direction by varying the photon energy between 8.5 eV and 50 eV, two surface states in the photoelectron spectra were observed in addition to the valence band peaks.  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT) with LDA and GGA have been employed to study the interface and thin film properties of NaCl on a Ge(0 0 1) surface. The atomic and electronic structures of thin NaCl films from one to ten monolayers were analyzed. The layer adsorption energies show that a quasi-crystalline (0 0 1) fcc NaCl film is built up via a layer-by-layer growth mode with NaCl thickness above 2 ML. Simulated STM images show a well-resolved (1 × 1) NaCl atomic structure for sample bias voltage Vs < −2.5 V and the bright protrusions should be assigned to the Cl ions of the NaCl film. The Ge substrate dimer is reserved and buckled like a clean Ge(0 0 1)-p(2 × 2) surface as the result of weak interface interaction between the dangling bonds coming from valence π states of the Ge substrate and the 3p states of the interfacial Cl ion. These results are consistent with the experiments of STM, LEED and EELS.  相似文献

The optimized structure of the WO3(0 0 1) surface with various types of termination ((1 × 1)O, (1 × 1)WO2, and c(2 × 2)O) has been simulated using density functional theory with the Perdew-Wang 91 gradient corrected exchange-correlation functional. While the energy of bulk WO3 depends weakly on the distortions and tilting of the WO6 octahedra, relaxation of the (0 0 1) surface results in a significant decrease of surface energy (from 10.2 × 10−2 eV/Å2 for the cubic ReO3-like, c(2 × 2)O-terminated surface to 2.2 × 10−2 eV/Å2 for the relaxed surface). This feature illustrates a potential role of surface relaxation in formation of crystalline nano-size clusters of WO3. The surface relaxation is accompanied by a dramatic redistribution of the density of states near the Fermi level, in particular a transformation of surface electronic states. This redistribution is responsible for the decrease of electronic energy and therefore is suggested to be the driving force for surface relaxation of the WO3(0 0 1) surface and, presumably, similar surfaces of other transition metal oxides.  相似文献

We have studied the adsorption of Pb on the Rh(1 0 0) and (1 1 0) surfaces by photoemission and low energy electron diffraction (LEED), and tested the chemical properties by adsorption of CO. Pb forms two distinct c(2 × 2) phases on Rh(1 0 0), according to the temperature of the substrate. The phase formed below about 570-620 K, denoted α-c(2 × 2), reduces the coverage of adsorbed CO but does not affect the valence band spectrum of the molecule. The phase formed above this temperature, denoted β-c(2 × 2), also reduces the coverage of adsorbed CO but the valence band spectrum of the adsorbed CO is strongly affected. The two phases are also characterised by a slightly different binding energy of the Pb 5d5/2 level, 17.54 eV for the α phase and 17.70 for the β phase. The Pb/Rh(1 1 0) surface shows two ordered Pb induced phases, c(2 × 2) and p(3 × 1). CO adsorbs on the first with reduced heat of adsorption and with a valence band spectrum that is strongly altered with respect to CO adsorbed on clean Rh(1 1 0), but does not adsorb on the p(3 × 1) structure at 300 K. The structural fluctuation of the orientational arrangement of buckled dimers on a Ge(0 0 1) surface near the transition temperature of the order-disorder phase transition is investigated by time-resolving dynamical Monte Carlo simulations. STM images averaged in a finite period are derived from the simulation. The coexistence of the c(4 × 2) and the apparent (2 × 1) domains in the STM images observed by experiments is reproduced in the simulated STM images. We show that the coexistence on the Ge(0 0 1) surface can be attributed to the critical slowing down near the transition temperature.  相似文献

Ab initio calculations of the reflectance anisotropy of Si(1 1 1)-In surfaces are presented. A very pronounced optical anisotropy around 2 eV is found that is related to In-chain states. The distortion of the indium chains characteristic for the (4 × 1) → (8 × 2) phase transition results in a splitting of the 2 eV peak, as observed experimentally. The splitting occurs irrespective wether the phase transition occurs according to the trimer or hexamer model.  相似文献

A high resolution (0.0018 cm−1) Fourier transform instrument has been used to record the spectrum of an enriched 34S (95.3%) sample of sulfur dioxide. A thorough analysis of the ν2, 2ν2 − ν2, ν1, ν1 + ν2 − ν2, ν3, ν2 + ν3 − ν2, ν1 + ν2 and ν2 + ν3 bands has been carried out leading to a large set of assigned lines. From these lines ground state combination differences were obtained and fit together with the existing microwave, millimeter, and terahertz rotational lines. An improved set of ground state rotational constants were obtained. Next, the upper state rotational levels were fit. For the (0 1 0), (1 1 0) and (0 1 1) states, a simple Watson-type Hamiltonian sufficed. However, it was necessary to include explicitly interacting terms in the Hamiltonian matrix in order to fit the rotational levels of the (0 2 0), (1 0 0) and (1 0 1) states to within their experimental accuracy. More explicitly, it was necessary to use a ΔK = 2 term to model the Fermi interaction between the (0 2 0) and (1 0 0) levels and a ΔK = 3 term to model the Coriolis interaction between the (1 0 0) and (0 0 1) levels. Precise Hamiltonian constants were derived for the (0 0 0), (0 1 0), (1 0 0), (0 0 1), (0 2 0), (1 1 0) and (0 1 1) vibrational states.  相似文献
