Structure of Degenerate Block Algebras 总被引:13,自引:0,他引:13
Given a non-trivial torsion-free abelian group (A,+,Q), a field F of characteristic 0, and a non-degenerate bi-additive skew-symmetric map
: A
A
F, we define a Lie algebra
=
(A,
) over F with basis {ex | x
A/{0}} and Lie product [ex,ey] =
(x,y)ex+y. We show that
is endowed uniquely with a non-degenerate symmetric invariant bilinear form and the derivation algebra Der
of
is a complete Lie algebra. We describe the double extension D(
, T) of
by T, where T is spanned by the locally finite derivations of
, and determine the second cohomology group H2(D(
, T),F) using anti-derivations related to the form on D(
, T). Finally, we compute the second Leibniz cohomology groups HL2(
, F) and HL2(D(
, T), F).2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 17B05, 17B30This work was supported by the NNSF of China (19971044), the Doctoral Programme Foundation of Institution of Higher Education (97005511), and the Foundation of Jiangsu Educational Committee. 相似文献

The main result in Cossidente and Siciliano (J. Number Theory, Vol. 99 (2003) pp. 373–382) states that if a Singer subgroup of PGL(3,q) is an automorphism group of a projective, geometric
irreducible, non-singular plane algebraic curve
then either
or
. In the former case
is projectively equivalent to the curve
with equation Xq+1Y+Yq+1+X=0 studied by Pellikaan. Furthermore, the curve
has a very nice property from Finite Geometry point of view: apart from the three distinguished points fixed by the Singer
subgroup, the set of its
-rational points can be partitioned into finite projective planes
. In this paper, the full automorphism group of such curves is determined. It turns out that

Let Γ be an arithmetic lattice in an absolutely simple Lie group G with trivial centre. We prove that there exists an integer N ≥ 2, a subgroup Λ of finite index in Γ, and an action of Λ on
such that the pair (
) has property (T). If G has property (T), then so does
. If G is the adjoint group of Sp(n, 1), then
is a property (T) group satisfying the Baum–Connes conjecture. If Γ is an arithmetic lattice in SO(n, 1), then the associated von Neumann algebra
is a II1-factor in Popa’s class
. Elaborating on this result of Popa, we construct a countable family of pairwise nonstably isomorphic group II1-factors in the class

Let
be a locally compact group. Consider the Banach algebra
, equipped with the first Arens multiplication, as well as the
algebra LUC
, the dual of the space of bounded left uniformly
continuous functions on
, whose product extends the convolution in
the measure algebra M
. We present (for the most interesting case
of a non-compact group) completely different - in particular,
direct - proofs and even obtain
sharpened versions of
the results, first proved by Lau-Losert in [9] and Lau in
[8], that the topological centres of the latter algebras
precisely are
and M
, respectively. The special interest of
our new approach lies in the fact that it shows a fairly general pattern
of solving the topological centre problem for various kinds of Banach
algebras; in particular, it avoids the use of any measure theoretical
techniques. At the same time, deriving both results in perfect
parallelity, our method reveals the nature of their close relation.Received: 1 January 2002 相似文献

Minimum-Volume Enclosing Ellipsoids and Core Sets 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
We study the problem of computing a (1+ε)-approximation to the minimum-volume enclosing ellipsoid of a given point set
. Based on a simple, initial volume approximation method, we propose a modification of the Khachiyan first-order algorithm. Our analysis leads to a slightly improved complexity bound of
operations for
. As a byproduct, our algorithm returns a core set
with the property that the minimum-volume enclosing ellipsoid of
provides a good approximation to that of
. Furthermore, the size of
depends on only the dimension d and ε, but not on the number of points n. In particular, our results imply that

In this paper, for solving the finite-dimensional variational inequality problem
where F is a
mapping from X to Rn, X =
is nonempty (not necessarily bounded) and
is a convex Cr+1 mapping, a homotopy method is presented. Under various conditions, existence and convergence of a smooth homotopy path from almost any interior initial point in X to a solution of the variational inequality problem is proven. It leads to an implementable and globally convergent algorithm and gives a new and constructive proof of existence of solution. 相似文献
