In this note we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a fiber preserving branched covering between two closed, orientable Seifert manifolds (for sufficiency we need the additional assumption that the genus of the base orbifold of the target manifold ). Combining this with two theorems of Rong we get a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a nonzero degree map between two such manifolds.

The first and second variation formulas of the energy functional for a nonde-generate map between Finsler manifolds is derived. As an application, some nonexistence theorems of nonconstant stable harmonic maps from a Finsler manifold to a Riemannian manifold are given.  相似文献

In this paper, we study f-harmonicity of some special maps from or into a doubly warped product manifold. First we recall some properties of doubly twisted product manifolds. After showing that the inclusion maps from Riemannian manifolds M and N into the doubly warped product manifold M × μ,λ N can not be proper f-harmonic maps, we use projection maps and product maps to construct nontrivial f-harmonic maps. Thus we obtain some similar results given in [21], such as the conditions for f-harmonicity of projection maps and some characterizations for non-trivial f-harmonicity of the special product maps. Furthermore, we investigate non-trivial f-harmonicity of the product of two harmonic maps.  相似文献

A. Borel proved that, if the fundamental group of an aspherical manifold is centerless and the outer automorphism group of is torsion-free, then admits no periodic maps, or equivalently, there are no non-trivial finite groups of homeomorphisms acting effectively on . In the literature, taking off from this result, several examples of (rather complex) aspherical manifolds exhibiting this total lack of periodic maps have been presented.

In this paper, we investigate to what extent the converse of Borel's result holds for aspherical manifolds arising from Seifert fiber space constructions. In particular, for e.g. flat Riemannian manifolds, infra-nilmanifolds and infra-solvmanifolds of type (R), it turns out that having a centerless fundamental group with torsion-free outer automorphism group is also necessary to conclude that all finite groups of affine diffeomorphisms acting effectively on the manifold are trivial. Finally, we discuss the problem of finding (less complex) examples of such aspherical manifolds with no periodic maps.

It is shown that for any continuous mapf: Gn,k → Gn,k, dim Gn,k = dim Gm,l = l(m −l), the Brouwer’s degree is zero, providedl > 1,n ≠ m. It is proved that, on any closed oriented Riemannian n-manifold, the vector spaces of conformal Killing, Killing, and closed conformal Killing r-forms, where 1 ≤ rn ? 1, have finite dimensions t r , k r , and p r , respectively. The numbers t r are conformal scalar invariants of the manifold, and the numbers k r and p r are projective scalar invariants; they are dual in the sense that t r = t n?r and k r = p n?r . Moreover, an explicit expression for a conformal Killing r-form on a conformally flat Riemannian n-manifold is given.  相似文献

We study Pfister neighbors and their characterization over fields of characteristic , where we include the case of singular forms. We give a somewhat simplified proof of a theorem of Fitzgerald which provides a criterion for when a nonsingular quadratic form is similar to a Pfister form in terms of the hyperbolicity of this form over the function field of a form which is dominated by . From this, we derive an analogue in characteristic of a result by Knebusch saying that, in characteristic , a form is a Pfister neighbor if its anisotropic part over its own function field is defined over the base field. Our result includes certain cases of singular forms, but we also give examples which show that Knebusch's result generally fails in characteristic for singular forms. As an application, we characterize certain forms of height in the sense of Knebusch whose quasi-linear parts are of small dimension. We also develop some of the basics of a theory of totally singular quadratic forms. This is used to give a new interpretation of the notion of the height of a standard splitting tower as introduced by the second author in an earlier paper.

Approximate fibrations form a useful class of maps. By definition fibrators provide instant detection of maps in this class, and PL fibrators do the same in the PL category. This paper formalizes a natural concept of partial asphericity and establishes fibrator properties of certain partially aspherical closed manifolds. One consequence is that any connected sum of aspherical PL manifolds with residually finite fundamental groups is a codimension-(2n−2) PL fibrator.  相似文献

The paper suggests a constructive characterization of unbounded completely positive maps introduced earlier by Chebotarev for the theory of quantum dynamical semigroups. Locally convex compact hypersurfaces immersed in a hollow simply connected Riemannian space of nonpositive sectional curvature are considered. They are proved to be convex hypersurfaces homeomorphic to the sphere. A similar result for immersed hypersurfaces with nonpositive definite second quadratic form of rank no smaller than one is obtained.
