The time dependent differential equation for the local wire temperature of a constant temperature anemometer is solved by a perturbation method in case of a harmonically changing heat transfer coefficient. The time dependent power supply to the wire follows from the condition of constant mean temperature imposed by the anemometer circuit. The influence of thin supporting wires, or copper-plated wire ends, is evaluated also. A large number of studies have been devoted to the unsteady flow of a viscid incompressible fluid past a lattice of thin profiles and the determination of the resulting aerodynamic forces and moments. For example, in the particular case of the motion of a lattice with stagger with zero phase shift of the oscillations between neighboring profiles, Haskind [1] determined the unsteady lift force and moment. Popescu [2] suggested expressions for the force and moment in the case when =0 and =0, using the method of conformal mapping. Samoilovich [3] obtained equations for the unsteady lift force and moment by the method of the acceleration potential for phase shift =0 and = of the oscillations between neighboring profiles. Musatov [4] used an electronic digital computer to calculate the overall unsteady aerodynamic characteristics of a grid by the vortex method, taking into account the amplitude of the oscillations and the initial circulation for =m (m1). Gorelov [5] determined the coefficients of the over-all unsteady aerodynamic force and moment of a profile in a lattice with the stagger and any value of =m. He used a method based on the unsteady flow past an isolated profile with subsequent account for the interference of the profiles in the lattice. In the following we find general expressions for the unsteady lift force and moment acting on a lattice moving in an incompressible fluid with the constant velocity U. These formulas generalize the known formulas for the isolated profile [6]. The profiles of a staggered grid (Section 1) are considered to be thin and slightly curved, and perform oscillations with a phase shift of the oscillations between neighboring profiles. The method of separation of singularities is used to obtain the solution in closed form. The coefficients of the expansion of the complex velocity in a series in the derivatives of a function are calculated. An integral equation relative to the unknown tangential velocity component in the wake is derived (Section 2), and its analytic solution is given (Section 3). For =0 the solution coincides with the solution obtained earlier in [7]. Expressions are obtained for the forces and moments (Section 4) in the form of four terms. The first two terms determine the force and moment for motion with constant circulation, and the last two determine these characteristics for motion with variable circulation. The suction force acting at the leading edges of the profiles is found in a general form. Particular cases of closely and widely spaced lattices are considered. Computational results are presented.

This paper addresses the problem of the proper definition of temperature of a gas in nonequilibrium. It shows that the mean kinetic energy of the atoms of a rarefied gas is not a good measure for thethermodynamic temperature, because in general it jumps at a wall, and because it is nonmonotone in a onedimensional process of stationary heat conduction. The jump of the kinetic temperature is calculated and found to be about 5K in a rarefied gas. The basis for the calculations is provided by the arguments of extended thermodynamics of 14 moments. An essential tool is the minimax principle of entropy production recently postulated by Struchtrup Weiss [1], because it furnishes one important boundary condition.Sommario.

The stress-strain isothermal hysteresis loops due to the incomplete martensitic transformation are analysed for Ti-Ni shape memory alloys. Experiments show the existence of two distinct yield lines for phase transition; one for the forward transformation austenitemartensite (AM), the other for the reverse transformation MA. The tensile behaviour of single crystals with only one yield line (AM) [1] can be considered as an ideal case. An extension of a thermodynamic model for pseudoelasticity [2] allows these two yield lines to be taken into account.

The modern theory of masonry structures has been set up on the hypothesis of no-tension behaviour, with the aim of offering a reference model, independent of materials and building techniques employed. This hypothesis gives rise to inequalities which have to be satisfied by the stress tensor components and, as a dual aspect, to the kinematic behaviour characteristics of media which can be classified as lying between solids and fluids: the structure of the masonry material consists of particles reacting elastically only when in contact. An examination of the plane-stress problem leads us to define, within the prescribed domain under admissible loads, three different subdomains with null, regular, or non-regular principal stress tensors, respectively. As the boundaries of such subdomains are not known a priori, the problem can be classified as a free boundary value problem. The analysis concerns mainly the subdomains where the stress tensor is non-regular; and a non-regularity condition det =0 is added to the equilibrium equations. This condition makes the stress problem isostatic and leads to a violation of Saint-Venant's compliance conditions on strains. Hence there is a need to introduce a strain tensor, not related to the stress tensor, which can be decomposed into an extensional component and a shearing component; we prove that such strains, of the class c, are similar to those of the theory of plastic flow. From the point of view of computational analysis the anelastic strains are considered as given distortions; they are computed by means of the Haar-Kármán principle, modified for computational purposes by an idea of Prager and Hodge.

Summary A set of implemented evolution equations, describing the coherent nonlinear interaction of plasma waves, based on the perturbation method, has been derived, taking into account initial value effects and third order nonlinearities in the modal amplitudes. The equations reduce, in the appropriate limit, to well known stochastic triplets of hydrodynamic type.It is argued that, the stochastization mechanism of the decay instability in strongly damped regime, may be interpreted as a Duffing-type behavior.

The wedge subjected to tractions: a paradox resolved
The classical two-dimensional solution provided by Lévy for the stress distribution in an elastic wedge, loaded by a uniform pressure on one face, becomes infinite when the opening angle 2 of the wedge satisfies the equation tan 2 = 2. Such pathological behavior prompted the investigation in this paper of the stresses and displacements that are induced by tractions of O(r ) as r0. The key point is to choose an Airy stress function which generates stresses capable of accommodating unrestricted loading. Fortunately conditions can be derived which pre-determine the form of the necessary Airy stress function. The results show that inhomogeneous boundary conditions can induce stresses of O(r ), O(r ln r), or O(r ln2 r) as r0, depending on which conditions are satisfied. The stress function used by Williams is sufficient only if the induced stress and displacement behavior is of the power type. The wedge loaded by uniform antisymmetric shear tractions is shown in this paper to exhibit stresses of O(ln r) as r0 for the half-plane or crack geometry. At the critical opening angle 2, uniform antisymmetric normal and symmetric shear tractions also induce the above type of stress singularity. No anticipating such stresses, Lévy used an insufficiently general Airy stress function that led to the observed pathological behavior at 2.

The peristaltic motion of a non-Newtonian fluid represented by the constitutive equation for a second-order fluid was studied for the case of a planar channel with harmonically undulating extensible walls. A perturbation series for the parameter ( half-width of channel/wave length) obtained explicit terms of 0(2), 0(2Re2) and 0(1Re2) respectively representing curvature, inertia and the non-Newtonian character of the fluid. Numerical computations were performed and compared to the perturbation analysis in order to determine the range of validity of the terms.Presented at the second conference Recent Developments in Structured Continua, May 23–25, 1990, in Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada

Summary The spectral decomposition of the compliance, stiffness, and failure tensors for transversely isotropic materials was studied and their characteristic values were calculated using the components of these fourth-rank tensors in a Cartesian frame defining the principal material directions. The spectrally decomposed compliance and stiffness or failure tensors for a transversely isotropic body (fiber-reinforced composite), and the eigenvalues derived from them define in a simple and efficient way the respective elastic eigenstates of the loading of the material. It has been shown that, for the general orthotropic or transversely isotropic body, these eigenstates consist of two double components, 1 and 2 which are shears (2 being a simple shear and 1, a superposition of simple and pure shears), and that they are associated with distortional components of energy. The remaining two eigenstates, with stress components 3, and 4, are the orthogonal supplements to the shear subspace of 1 and 2 and consist of an equilateral stress in the plane of isotropy, on which is superimposed a prescribed tension or compression along the symmetry axis of the material. The relationship between these superimposed loading modes is governed by another eigenquantity, the eigenangle .The spectral type of decomposition of the elastic stiffness or compliance tensors in elementary fourth-rank tensors thus serves as a means for the energy-orthogonal decomposition of the energy function. The advantage of this type of decomposition is that the elementary idempotent tensors to which the fourth-rank tensors are decomposed have the interesting property of defining energy-orthogonal stress states. That is, the stress-idempotent tensors are mutually orthogonal and at the same time collinear with their respective strain tensors, and therefore correspond to energy-orthogonal stress states, which are therefore independent of each other. Since the failure tensor is the limiting case for the respective x, which are eigenstates of the compliance tensor S, this tensor also possesses the same remarkable property. An interesting geometric interpretation arises for the energy-orthogonal stress states if we consider the projections of x in the principal3D stress space. Then, the characteristic state 2 vanishes, whereas stress states 1, 3 and 4 are represented by three mutually orthogonal vectors, oriented as follows: The 3 and 4 lie on the principal diagonal plane (312) with subtending angles equaling (–/2) and (-), respectively. On the positive principal 3-axis, is the eigenangle of the orthotropic material, whereas the 1-vector is normal to the (312)-plane and lies on the deviatoric -plane. Vector 2 is equal to zero.It was additionally conclusively proved that the four eigenvalues of the compliance, stiffness, and failure tensors for a transversely isotropic body, together with value of the eigenangle , constitute the five necessary and simplest parameters with which invariantly to describe either the elastic or the failure behavior of the body. The expressions for the x-vector thus established represent an ellipsoid centered at the origin of the Cartesian frame, whose principal axes are the directions of the 1-, 3- and 4-vectors. This ellipsoid is a generalization of the Beltrami ellipsoid for isotropic materials.Furthermore, in combination with extensive experimental evidence, this theory indicates that the eigenangle alone monoparametrically characterizes the degree of anisotropy for each transversely isotropic material. Thus, while the angle for isotropic materials is always equal to i = 125.26° and constitutes a minimum, the angle || progressively increases within the interval 90–180° as the anisotropy of the material is increased. The anisotropy of the various materials, exemplified by their ratiosE L/2GL of the longitudinal elastic modulus to the double of the longitudinal shear modulus, increases rapidly tending asymptotically to very high values as the angle approaches its limits of 90 or 180°.

Summary The paper shows that the existence of irrotational surface waves established by an investigation of Levi-Civita may be extended till the breaking, but that it is valid when is 0,84 p 1 (and when p1=np with n whole number). No solution is known till to day when is p<0,84 (and when is 1,00<p1<<1,68).

Summary Let denote the congruence of null geodesics associated with a given optical observer inV 4. We prove that determines a unique collection of vector fieldsM() ( =1, 2, 3) and (0) overV 4, satisfying a weak version of Killing's conditions. This allows a natural interpretation of these fields as the infinitesimal generators of spatial rotations and temporal translation relative to the given observer. We prove also that the definition of the fieldsM() and (0) is mathematically equivalent to the choice of a distinguished affine parameter f along the curves of, playing the role of a retarded distance from the observer. The relation between f and other possible definitions of distance is discussed.

It is known that the classical technical theories of Bredt and of sectorial areas are the variational limit of the SaintVenant torsion problem for hollow homogeneous isotropic cylinders with thin doubly connected crosssection when the wall thickness reaches zero. The main goal of this paper is to prove that the same result remains true for thin tubes with multicell crosssection.Sommario.

In the present paper magnetohydrodynamic models are employed to investigate the stability of an inhomogeneous magnetic plasma with respect to perturbations in which the electric field may be regarded as a potential field (rot E 0). A hydrodynamic model, actually an extension of the well-known Chew-Goldberg er-Low model [1], is used to investigate motions transverse to a strong magnetic field in a collisionless plasma. The total viscous stress tensor is given; this includes, together with magnetic viscosity, the so-called inertial viscosity.Ordinary two-fluid hydrodynamics is used in the case of strong collisions=. It is shown that the collisional viscosity leads to flute-type instability in the case when, collisions being neglected, the flute mode is stabilized by a finite Larmor radius. A treatment is also given of the case when epithermal high-frequency oscillations (not leading immediately to anomalous diffusion) cause instability in the low-frequency (drift) oscillations in a manner similar to the collisional electron viscosity, leading to anomalous diffusion.Notation f particle distribution function - E electric field component - H0 magnetic field - density - V particle velocity - e charge - m, M electron and ion mass - i, e ion and electron cyclotron frequencies - viscous stress tensor - P pressure - ri Larmor radius - P pressure tensor - t time - frequency - T temperature - collision frequency - collision time - j current density - i, e ion and electron drift frequencies - kx, ky, kz wave-vector components - n0 particle density - g acceleration due to gravity. A solution is obtained for the relationship between load, displacement and inner contact radius for an axisymmetric, spherically concave, rigid punch, indenting an elastic half-space. Analytic approximations are developed for the limiting cases in which the ratio of the inner and outer radii of the annular contact region is respectively small and close to unity. These approximations overlap well at intermediate values. The same method is applied to the conically concave punch and to a punch with a central hole. , , . , . . .

Two-phase flow in stratified porous media is a problem of central importance in the study of oil recovery processes. In general, these flows are parallel to the stratifications, and it is this type of flow that we have investigated experimentally and theoretically in this study. The experiments were performed with a two-layer model of a stratified porous medium. The individual strata were composed of Aerolith-10, an artificial: sintered porous medium, and Berea sandstone, a natural porous medium reputed to be relatively homogeneous. Waterflooding experiments were performed in which the saturation field was measured by gamma-ray absorption. Data were obtained at 150 points distributed evenly over a flow domain of 0.1 × 0.6 m. The slabs of Aerolith-10 and Berea sandstone were of equal thickness, i.e. 5 centimeters thick. An intensive experimental study was carried out in order to accurately characterize the individual strata; however, this effort was hampered by both local heterogeneities and large-scale heterogeneities. The theoretical analysis of the waterflooding experiments was based on the method of large-scale averaging and the large-scale closure problem. The latter provides a precise method of discussing the crossflow phenomena, and it illustrates exactly how the crossflow influences the theoretical prediction of the large-scale permeability tensor. The theoretical analysis was restricted to the quasi-static theory of Quintard and Whitaker (1988), however, the dynamic effects described in Part I (Quintard and Whitaker 1990a) are discussed in terms of their influence on the crossflow.Roman Letters A interfacial area between the -region and the -region contained within V, m2 - a vector that maps onto , m - b vector that maps onto , m - b vector that maps onto , m - B second order tensor that maps onto , m2 - C second order tensor that maps onto , m2 - E energy of the gamma emitter, keV - f fractional flow of the -phase - g gravitational vector, m/s2 - h characteristic length of the large-scale averaging volume, m - H height of the stratified porous medium , m - i unit base vector in the x-direction - K local volume-averaged single-phase permeability, m2 - K - {K}, large-scale spatial deviation permeability - { K} large-scale volume-averaged single-phase permeability, m2 - K * large-scale single-phase permeability, m2 - K ** equivalent large-scale single-phase permeability, m2 - K local volume-averaged -phase permeability in the -region, m2 - K local volume-averaged -phase permeability in the -region, m2 - K - {K } , large-scale spatial deviation for the -phase permeability, m2 - K * large-scale permeability for the -phase, m2 - l thickness of the porous medium, m - l characteristic length for the -region, m - l characteristic length for the -region, m - L length of the experimental porous medium, m - characteristic length for large-scale averaged quantities, m - n outward unit normal vector for the -region - n outward unit normal vector for the -region - n unit normal vector pointing from the -region toward the -region (n = - n ) - N number of photons - p pressure in the -phase, N/m2 - p 0 reference pressure in the -phase, N/m2 - local volume-averaged intrinsic phase average pressure in the -phase, N/m2 - large-scale volume-averaged pressure of the -phase, N/m2 - large-scale intrinsic phase average pressure in the capillary region of the -phase, N/m2 - - , large-scale spatial deviation for the -phase pressure, N/m2 - pc , capillary pressure, N/m2 - p c capillary pressure in the -region, N/m2 - p capillary pressure in the -region, N/m2 - {p c } c large-scale capillary pressure, N/m2 - q -phase velocity at the entrance of the porous medium, m/s - q -phase velocity at the entrance of the porous medium, m/s - Swi irreducible water saturation - S /, local volume-averaged saturation for the -phase - S i initial saturation for the -phase - S r residual saturation for the -phase - S * { }*/}*, large-scale average saturation for the -phase - S saturation for the -phase in the -region - S saturation for the -phase in the -region - t time, s - v -phase velocity vector, m/s - v local volume-averaged phase average velocity for the -phase, m/s - {v } large-scale averaged velocity for the -phase, m/s - v local volume-averaged phase average velocity for the -phase in the -region, m/s - v local volume-averaged phase average velocity for the -phase in the -region, m/s - v -{v } , large-scale spatial deviation for the -phase velocity, m/s - v -{v } , large-scale spatial deviation for the -phase velocity in the -region, m/s - v -{v } , large-scale spatial deviation for the -phase velocity in the -region, m/s - V large-scale averaging volume, m3 - y position vector relative to the centroid of the large-scale averaging volume, m - {y}c large-scale average of y over the capillary region, m Greek Letters local porosity - local porosity in the -region - local porosity in the -region - local volume fraction for the -phase - local volume fraction for the -phase in the -region - local volume fraction for the -phase in the -region - {}* { }*+{ }*, large-scale spatial average volume fraction - { }* large-scale spatial average volume fraction for the -phase - mass density of the -phase, kg/m3 - mass density of the -phase, kg/m3 - viscosity of the -phase, N s/m2 - viscosity of the -phase, Ns/m2 - V /V , volume fraction of the -region ( + =1) - V /V , volume fraction of the -region ( + =1) - attenuation coefficient to gamma-rays, m-1 - -   相似文献
