We look at two possible routes to classical behavior for the discrete quantum random walk on the integers: decoherence in the quantum "coin" which drives the walk, or the use of higher-dimensional (or multiple) coins to dilute the effects of interference. We use the position variance as an indicator of classical behavior and find analytical expressions for this in the long-time limit; we see that the multicoin walk retains the "quantum" quadratic growth of the variance except in the limit of a new coin for every step, while the walk with decoherence exhibits "classical" linear growth of the variance even for weak decoherence.  相似文献

Quantum walk is a very useful tool for building quantum algorithms due to the faster spreading of probability distributions as compared to a classical random walk. Comparing the spreading of the probability distributions of a quantum walk with that of a mnemonic classical random walk on a one-dimensional infinite chain, we find that the classical random walk could have a faster spreading than that of the quantum walk conditioned on a finite number of walking steps. Quantum walk surpasses classical random walk with memory in spreading speed when the number of steps is large enough. However, in such a situation, quantum walk would seriously suffer from decoherence. Therefore, classical walk with memory may have some advantages in practical applications.  相似文献

We study decoherence in the quantum walk on the xy-plane.We generalize the method of decoherent coin quantum walk, introduced by [T.A.Brun,et al.,Phys.Rev.A 67(2003) 032304],which could be applicable to all sorts of decoherence in two-dimensional quantum walks, irrespective of the unitary transformation governing the walk.As an application we study decoherence in the presence of broken line noise in which the quantum walk is governed by the two-dimensional Hadamard operator.  相似文献

A nonlinear theory of quantum Brownian motion in classical environment is developed based on a thermodynamically enhanced nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The latter is transformed via the Madelung transformation into a nonlinear quantum Smoluchowski-like equation, which is proven to reproduce key results from the quantum and classical physics. The application of the theory to a free quantum Brownian particle results in a nonlinear dependence of the position dispersion on time, being quantum generalization of the Einstein law of Brownian motion. It is shown that the time of decoherence from quantum to classical diffusion is proportional to the square of the thermal de Broglie wavelength divided by the classical Einstein diffusion constant.  相似文献

We study the behaviour of the glued trees algorithm described by Childs et al. in [1] under decoherence. We consider a discrete time reformulation of the continuous time quantum walk protocol and apply a phase damping channel to the coin state, investigating the effect of such a mechanism on the probability of the walker appearing on the target vertex of the graph. We pay particular attention to any potential advantage coming from the use of weak decoherence for the spreading of the walk across the glued trees graph.  相似文献

This paper investigates the effects of decoherence generated by broken-link-type noise in the hypercube on an optimized quantum random-walk search algorithm. When the hypercube occurs with random broken links, the optimized quantum random-walk search algorithm with decoherence is depicted through defining the shift operator which includes the possibility of broken links. For a given database size, we obtain the maximum success rate of the algorithm and the required number of iterations through numerical simulations and analysis when the algorithm is in the presence of decoherence. Then the computational complexity of the algorithm with decoherence is obtained. The results show that the ultimate effect of broken-link-type decoherence on the optimized quantum random-walk search algorithm is negative.

We consider the effect of different unitary noise mechanisms on the evolution of a quantum walk (QW) on a linear chain with a generic coin operation: (i) bit-flip channel noise, restricted to the coin subspace of the QW and (ii) topological noise caused by randomly broken links in the linear chain. Similarities and differences in the respective decoherent dynamics of the walker as a function of the probability per unit time of a decoherent event taking place are discussed.  相似文献

We investigate the impact of decoherence and static disorder on the dynamics of quantum particles moving in a periodic lattice. Our experiment relies on the photonic implementation of a one-dimensional quantum walk. The pure quantum evolution is characterized by a ballistic spread of a photon's wave packet along 28 steps. By applying controlled time-dependent operations we simulate three different environmental influences on the system, resulting in a fast ballistic spread, a diffusive classical walk, and the first Anderson localization in a discrete quantum walk architecture.  相似文献

We study decoherence in a simple quantum mechanical model using two approaches. Firstly, we follow the conventional approach to decoherence where one is interested in solving the reduced density matrix from the perturbative master equation. Secondly, we consider our novel correlator approach to decoherence where entropy is generated by neglecting observationally inaccessible correlators. We show that both methods can accurately predict decoherence time scales. However, the perturbative master equation generically suffers from instabilities which prevents us to reliably calculate the system’s total entropy increase. We also discuss the relevance of the results in our quantum mechanical model for interacting field theories.  相似文献

Quantum walks act in obviously different ways from their classical counterparts, but decoherence will lessen and close this gap between them. To understand this process, it is necessary to investigate the evolution of quantum walks under different decoherence situations. In this article, we study a non-Markovian decoherent quantum walk on a line. In a short time regime, the behavior of the walk deviates from both ideal quantum walks and classical random walks. The position variance as a measure of the quantum walk collapses and revives for a short time, and tends to have a linear relation with time. That is, the walker's behavior shows a diffusive spread over a long time limit, which is caused by non-Markovian dephasing affecting the quantum correlations between the quantum walker and his coin. We also study both quantum discord and measurement-induced disturbance as measures of the quantum correlations, and observe both collapse and revival in the short time regime, and the tendency to be zero in the long time limit. Therefore, quantum walks with non-Markovian decoherence tend to have diffusive spreading behavior over long time limits, while in the short time regime they oscillate between ballistic and diffusive spreading behavior, and the quantum correlation collapses and revives due to the memory effect.  相似文献

We study the time evolution of classical and quantum correlations for hybrid qubit-qutrit systems in independent and common dephasing environments. Our discussion involves a comparative analysis of the Markovian dynamics of negativity, quantum discord, geometric measure of quantum discord and classical correlation. For the case of independent environments, we have demonstrated the phenomenon of sudden transition between classical and quantum decoherence for qubit-qutrit states. In the common environment case, we have shown that dynamics of quantum and geometric discords might be completely independent of each other for a certain time interval, although they tend to be eventually in accord.  相似文献

The quantum trajectory renders the optimal estimation of quantum state. It is a classical Itô stochastic differential equation. The Lyapunov global stabilization problem is solved for squeezed noise quantum trajectory. Lyapunov control stabilizes the quantum system toward one eigenstate. A two-level bistable quantum system is simulated as an example.  相似文献

Quantum walks have been investigated as they have remarkably different features in contrast to classical random walks. We present a quantum walk in a one-dimensional architecture, consisting of two coins and a walker whose evolution is in both position and phase spaces alternately controlled by the two coins respectively. By analyzing the dynamics evolution of the walker in both the position and phase spaces, we observe an influence on the quantum walk in one space from that in the other space, which behaves like decoherence. We propose an implementation of the two-coin quantum walk in both position and phase spaces via cavity quantum electrodynamics(QED).  相似文献

The well-known increase of the decoherence rate with the temperature, for a quantum system coupled to a linear thermal bath, no longer holds for a different bath dynamics. This is shown by means of a simple classical nonlinear bath, as well as a quantum spin-boson model. The anomalous effect is due to the temperature dependence of the bath spectral profile. In the case of the second model, a link with the quantum Zeno effect is provided. The decoherence reduction via the temperature increase can be relevant for the design of quantum computers.  相似文献

We investigate the influence of spontaneous symmetry breaking on the decoherence of a many-particle quantum system. This decoherence process is analyzed in an exactly solvable model system that is known to be representative of symmetry broken macroscopic systems in equilibrium. It is shown that spontaneous symmetry breaking imposes a fundamental limit to the time that a system can stay quantum coherent. This universal time scale is t(spon) approximately = 2piNH/(kBT), given in terms of the number of microscopic degrees of freedom N, temperature T, and the constants of Planck (h) and Boltzmann (kB).  相似文献

Classical properties of an open quantum system emerge through its interaction with other degrees of freedom (decoherence). We treat the case where this interaction produces a Markovian master equation for the system. We derive the corresponding distinguished local basis (pointer basis) by three methods. The first demands that the pointer states mimic as closely as possible the local nonunitary evolution. The second demands that the local entropy production be minimal. The third imposes robustness on the inherent quantum and emerging classical uncertainties. All three methods lead to localized Gaussian pointer states, their formation and diffusion being governed by well-defined quantum Langevin equations.  相似文献

We study source-to-sink excitation transport on carbon nanotubes using the concept of quantum walks. In particular, we focus on transport properties of Grover coined quantum walks on ideal and percolation perturbed nanotubes with zig-zag and armchair chiralities. Using analytic and numerical methods we identify how geometric properties of nanotubes and different types of a sink altogether control the structure of trapped states and, as a result, the overall source-to-sink transport efficiency. It is shown that chirality of nanotubes splits behavior of the transport efficiency into a few typically well separated quantitative branches. Based on that we uncover interesting quantum transport phenomena, e.g. increasing the length of the tube can enhance the transport and the highest transport efficiency is achieved for the thinnest tube. We also demonstrate, that the transport efficiency of the quantum walk on ideal nanotubes may exhibit even oscillatory behavior dependent on length and chirality.  相似文献
