Steinhaus [9] prove that if a set A has a positive Lebesgue measure in the line then its distance set contains an interval. He obtained even stronger forms of this result in [9], which are concerned with mutual distances between points in an infinite sequence of sets. Similar theorems in the case we replace distance by mutual ratio were established by Bose-Majumdar [1]. In the present paper, we endeavour to obtain some results related to sets with Baire property in locally compact topological spaces, particular cases of which yield the Baire category analogues of the above results of Steinhaus [9] and their corresponding form for ratios by Bose-Majumdar [1].  相似文献

If the positive integers are partitioned into a finite number of cells, then Hindman proved that there exists an infinite set B such that all finite, nonempty sums of distinct elements of B all belong to one cell of the partition. Erdös conjectured that if A is a set of integers with positive asymptotic density, then there exist infinite sets B and C such that B + C ? A. This conjecture is still unproved. This paper contains several results on sumsets contained in finite sets of integers. For example, if A is a set of integers of positive upper density, then for any n there exist sets B and F such that B has positive upper density, F has cardinality n, and B + F ? A.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the existence of unbounded maximal subcontinua of positive solution sets of some nonlinear operator equations that bifurcates from infinity. The main feature of the paper is that the nonlinearity may not be of asymptotically linear type and may not be positone. The methods used to show our main results are different from that of Rabinowitz’ well-known global bifurcation theorems and that of some other related papers. We first obtain a sequence of unbounded subcontinua located in a pipe that bifurcates from nontrivial solutions by using a topological degree argument. Then using a result on subcontinua of superior limit in metric spaces we obtain the main results concerning unbounded maximal subcontinua of positive solution sets of the nonlinear operator equation. The main results can be applied to the semipositone problems to obtain the existence of positive solutions.  相似文献

For a given set M of positive integers, a problem of Motzkin asks for determining the maximal density μ(M) among sets of nonnegative integers in which no two elements differ by an element of M. The problem is completely settled when |M|?2, and some partial results are known for several families of M for |M|?3, including the case where the elements of M are in arithmetic progression. We consider some cases when M either contains an arithmetic progression or is contained in an arithmetic progression.  相似文献

In this paper we give partial solutions to some questions concerning analytic functions with AP-Gaps raised by Pinto, Ruscheweyh and Salinas (cf. [9], [12]) using a theorem of H. Cartan which extends Montel's theorem on analytic functions omitting the values 0 and 1. Using the same method, we also prove a generalization of a theorem in [9] on the dual hull of sets containing two elements.  相似文献

In [10], the notion of homogeneous perfect sets as a generalization of Cantor type sets is introduced and their Hausdorff and lower box-counting dimensions are studied. In this paper, we determine their exact packing and upper box-counting dimensions based on the length of their fundamental intervals and the gaps between them. Some known results concerning the dimensions of Cantor type sets are generalized. This work was supported by NSFC (10571138).  相似文献

In [4], Dlaska introduced the class of almost rc-Lindelöf sets and studied some basic properties of such sets. In this paper, we obtain further results concerning almost rc-Lindelöf sets. We also introduce new concepts to obtain several mapping properties concerning almost rc-Lindelöf sets and almost rc-Lindelöf spaces. The property of being an almost rc-Lindelöf set is invariant under functions which are slightly continuous and weakly θ-irresolute. It is also shown that the property of being an almost rc-Lindelöf space is inverse invariant under functions which are weakly almost open, ω-regular open, and whose fibers are S-sets.  相似文献

The existence of infinite sets of primes which can be repesented as the sets of positive values of some polynomials in a small number of variables is discussed. (All variables range over positive integers.) It is proved (noneffectively) that there exists such a set, which has a representation with eight variables. This number of variables is smaller than in the best universal construction known today, which is ten. Also, some improvements of well-known technical lemmas are given. Bibliography: 20 titles. The set D of distinct signed degrees of the vertices in a signed graph G is called its signed degree set. In this paper, we prove that every non-empty set of positive (negative) integers is the signed degree set of some connected signed graph and determine the smallest possible order for such a signed graph. Recently, there are a number of well known theorems which char­acterize rings in terms of injective modules (cf. [2], [3], [5] and [8]). The purpose of this paper is to give general theorems which show that some similar results remain true when many other classes of general injective modules are considered in place of injective modules. Our results encompass several well known results by Huynh and Smith, Liu, and Xue. In particular we answer negatively the question of Yue Chi Ming [11] and an example is given to show that E—injective modules form an intermediate class between continuous and quasi-continuous modules(cf. Falconer[1] used the relationship between upper convex density and upper spherical density to obtain elementary density bounds for s-sets at H S-almost all points of the sets. In this paper, following Falconer[1], we first provide a basic method to estimate the lower bounds of these two classes of set densities for the self-similar s-sets satisfying the open set condition (OSC), and then obtain elementary density bounds for such fractals at all of their points. In addition, we apply the main results to the famous classical fractals and get some new density bounds.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss the ω-limit sets of a flow using the Conley theory, chain recurrence and Morse decompositions. Our results generalize and improve the related result in [Schropp J. A reduction principle for ω-limit sets. Z Angew Math Meth 1996;76(6):349–56], and we also show how they can be used as a basis for some new criteria for the existence of periodic orbits.  相似文献

In gambling theory as well as in dynamic programming, fundamental results are often proved by using properties of the weak topology on the space of real-valued, non-negative Borel measures on some analytic space (e.g., cf. Hinderer [3], Rieder [6], and Blackwell et al.[1]). In all these papers, the definition of weak topology is classically based on continuous functions. Here we point out that some of these results can be considerably generalized by using Topsøfe's definition of weak topology based on semi-continuous functions. Furthermore, it turns out that, following this approach, our proofs are much simpler than those in the papers cited above.  相似文献

Let(X, d) be a metric space and f be a continuous map from X to X. Denote by EP(f)and Ω(f) the sets of eventually periodic points and non-wandering points of f, respectively. It is well known that for a tree map f, the following statements hold:(1) If x ∈Ω(f)-Ω(f~n) for some n ≥ 2,then x ∈ EP(f).(2) Ω(f) is contained in the closure of EP(f). The aim of this note is to show that the above results do not hold for maps of dendrites D with Card(End(D)) = ?0(the cardinal number of the set of positive integers).  相似文献
