-potentials of a silica suspension and three types of polystyrene latex suspensions with different surface charge groups were measured, as a function of the particle concentration () in the suspension over a wide range, using the colloid vibration potential (CVP) technique. The concentration dependence of the-potential in silica suspension is explained well by Levine et al.s [1] cell model theory, verifying the applicability of the cell model to the CVP in silica suspension. However, the-potential of latex suspensions ordinarily decreases as the particle concentration increases, even after being corrected by the term of (1-). This tendency is especially noticeable in the systems that have particles with high surface charge densities. Furthermore, the conductivity measurements of these suspensions reveal that the conductivity of these systems, especially in their highly charged state, increases as the particle concentration is increased; opposite in tendency to silica suspensions. These new findings can be explained as follows: on the highly charged surface of a latex particle, a polyelectrolyte-like (hairy) layer is present, which overlaps at some point. This permits interparticle surface conduction and results in the abnormal behavior of CVP in these systems.  相似文献

The results of the studies on the influence of PVC organodispersions properties on the gram-equivalent (Q) of organosol electrophoretically deposited on the electrode have been presented in this work. The influence of the electrical conductivity and organosol concentration on electrophoresis have been determined. The effect of representing dielectric properties in terms of the complex polarizability c = – i is examined. Loss curves ( and tan ) are shifted towards higher frequencies, revealing the existence of new relaxations and allowing the clarifications of ones already known. We have calculated the shift ratios (at maximum or tan )/ (at maximum or tan ) from the more conventional empirical equations representing the dielectric behavior. Some examples are given.  相似文献

A theory of adsorption kinetics of solutes onto a solid surface from the solution phase is proposed in which a time delay is introduced into the solute concentration on the surface. Equations governing the adsorption kinetics are similar to those for membrane transport with time delay (Ohshima and Kondo, Biophys. Chem. (1989) 33: 303). It is found that introduction of time delay causes, under certain conditions, overshoot or oscillation in the solute concentrations, both in the solution phase and on the surface. The criterion for oscillation depends on the scaled delay time , the ratio of the possible maximum amount of solutes adsorbed on the surface to the total solute amountR, and the scaled binding constantK. When the number of the binding sites is small, the criterion for oscillation is expressed as >exp(–1), where =(/K) exp().  相似文献

Anomalous polymer microspheres having uneven surfaces were produced by stepwise heterocoagulation technique of small polymer particles (SPs) onto large polymer particles (LPs).SPs andLPs have surface charges opposite to each other in the emulsion states.SPs were produced by emulsion copolymerization of styrene and methacryloyloxyethyltrimethylammonium chloride, andLPs by emulsion terpolymerization of styrene, butyl acrylate and methacrylic acid, with nonionic emulsifier being used in both cases. Maximum covering ofLP bySPs was obtained under the conditions that both emulsions were blended without the coagulation at pH 3 at room temperature and then left stand to coagulate with each other at 70 °C for 4 h at pH 9.Part CXI of the series Studies on Suspension and Emulsion.  相似文献

The effect of the surface conductance on the -potential of dispersed particles determined from their electrophoretic mobility in nonaqueous electrolyte solutions was considered. The conductivity of dilute quartz suspensions and the electrophoretic mobility of quartz particles in NaBr solutions in butanol-1 and dimethyl sulfoxide as well as in LiBr solutions in acetone at the salt concentration C= 10–5–10–2M were determined by conductometry and microelectrophoresis. The dependences of surface conductivity and -potential on the electrolyte content were calculated by formulas of the Wagner and Henry theories. It was shown that, in the region of dilute solutions, (log C) curves thus obtained significantly differ from corresponding functions calculated by the Smoluchowski equation. At the same time, these dependences agreed closely with the (log C) dependences determined for the same systems by the streaming potential method with allowances for experimental values of the surface conductivity. Using aluminum oxide suspensions in NaBr and HBr ethanol solutions as examples, it was shown that, to obtain correct values of the -potential from electrophoretic mobility of porous particles impregnated with a solution, it is necessary to allow for the bulk conductance of the particles.  相似文献

Cubic liquid crystalline phases are common in surfactant and surfactant-like lipid systems at temperatures above the Krafft point. They are optically isotropic and very stiff. Therefore, they are often not recognized as independent phases and separated in pure state. The liquid crystalline nature is evidenced by a low-angle diffraction pattern with sharp reflections having Bragg-values above 20 Å coupled with a diffuse wide-angle reflection at 4.5 Å, proving that the hydrocarbon moiety is in a liquid state. The cubic phases occur in a variety of lipid/water systems (also with liquid organic solvents), such as simple soaps, amphiphilic lipids of biological origin, and extracts from membrane lipids. The location of the cubic phases in a phase diagram varies.The original concept of a cubic structure composed of closed globular aggregates, either of oil-in-water or water-in-oil type in face-centered array seems to be obsolete. The present structure concepts include closed anisotropic aggregates, short rod-like aggregates forming continuous networks or lamellar aggregates with zero curvature forming networks of Infinite Periodic Minimal Surfaces (IPMS). The structure is mostly primitive or body-centered cubic.  相似文献

The interaction of ions (Na+, K+, Li+, Ca2+) with monolayers of phosphatidic acid alkyl esters (alkyl = methyl, ethyl,n-propyl,n-pentyl) were investigated at the air/water interface on Tris-HCl buffer, as well as on the electrolytes containing subphases.Qualitatively it can be stated that there are no considerable interactions between Na+ ions in the substrate and the head groups of phosphatidic acid esters in the monolayers. On the whole, the modification of the shape in the /a and v/a isotherms ( s = film pressure, v s = film potential) of the homologous phosphatidic acid esters as a function of the length of the ester group on the subphase containing NaCl, KCl, and LiCl corresponds to that on Tris-HCl buffer without admixture of electrolytes.On the other hand the strength of interaction between Ca2+ ions and the homologous phosphatidic acid esters depends on the length of the ester group. The film-condensing effect of Ca2+ ions becomes smaller with increasing length of the ester group.  相似文献

Ultra-thin films of syndiotactic-rich poly-vinyl alcohol (s-PVA) with several proteins and polysaccharides were prepared by the bubble and frame methods using a mixed dilute aqueous solution (1.5g/dL).The mixed amount of-cyclodextrin (-CD) was the largest among these proteins and polysaccharides giving a weight ratio (-CD/s-PVA) of 1. The ratios of silk fibroin(SF), lysozyme, pepsin, and pectin tos- PVA were 0.58, 0.40, 0.35, and 0.35, respectively. For the-CD/s-PVA and SF/s-PVA blend thin films, the phase separation was observed.  相似文献

Monte Carlo studies of symmetrical polymer mixturesAB, modelled by selfavoiding walks withN A =N B =N steps on a simple cubic lattice, are presented for arbitrary concentrations of vacancies v in the range from v =0.2 to v =0.8 and chain lengthsN64. We obtained the phase diagrams and the equation of state for three choices of the ratio / AB ( being the energy between monomers of the same kind, AB being the energy between different monomers). Flory-Huggins theory provides only a qualitative understanding of these results. The -potential of copolymer particles of acrylic amide, acrylic acid, acrylic butyl ester, and styrene were measured in different electrolyte solutions. In an isotonic solution of sodium chloride, they vary with the content of acrylic acid between –36 mV and –49 mV. In the presence of 21-electrolytes, the -potential could be correlated with the logarithm of the electrolyte concentration. The 21-electrolytes predominantly determine the -potential of the particles not only in the solutions of these electrolytes, but also in mixed electrolyte solutions. In the presence of human serum, the electrophoretic mobility increases with increasing acrylic acid content of the polymer.  相似文献

Differential-scanning-calorimetry, freeze-fracture electron microscopy, and31P-NMR spectroscopy were used to study the lyotropic and thermotropic properties of the system dihexadecylphosphatidylcholine/dihexadecylphosphatidic acid/water/ NaOH in dispersion with excess water at pH=14. The phase diagram showed that both phospholipids are demixed nearly completely in the gel phase. The coexistence of theP and theB -phase in the mixtures was pointed out in the freeze-fracture electron micrographs by the ripple structure (P -phase) and by the lamellar structure (B -phase).  相似文献

We investigate experimentally and theoretically the isothermic growth of two spherulites of different modification into a supercooled isotactic polypropylene film. The faster growing-spherulite grows around the-spherulite, and finally the-spherulite is symmetrically and completely included in. In contrast to literature but in agreement with experimental evidence we find that the grain boundary between the teardropshaped-spherulite and the surrounding-spherulite consists of two parts, where one is always an arc of a logarithmic spiral. This-spherulite ends always in a vertex. Its angle depends on the ratio of the two growth rates only. Behind the vertex an intrinsic--grain boundary exists, degenerating to a channel in bulk material. The growth fron of the-spherulite, which ends on the logarithmic spiral or on the intrinsic grain boundary during growth, consists of an arc of a circle continued by an arc of a logarithmic spirial, too.  相似文献

The electrostatic interaction pressure of charged surface layers is considered qualitatively and quantitatively. In the case of mutual penetration of the surface layers in addition to Maxwell stress and osmotic resp. hydrostatic pressure an isotropic stress on the fixed charges carrying molecules of the surface layers has to be taken into account. The derivation of the pressure-distance equations is given starting from both thermodynamic/electrostatic and hydrostatic/electrostatic principles. In order to clarify in detail the process of the stepwise heterocoagulation of small polymer particles (SP) onto large polymer particles (LP), which we proposed to prepare anomalous polymer particles, the particle-size distribution in each step was estimated using dynamic light scattering.SP andLP have surface charges opposite to each other in emulsion states.SP were produced by emulsion copolymerization of styrene and methacryloyloxyethyltrimethylammonium chloride, andLP by emulsion terpolymerization of styrene, butyl acrylate, and methacrylic acid. Four triterpene glycosides were isolated from the roots of Pulsatilla chinensis (Bunge) Regel (Ranunculaceae). Two new glycosides, chinensiosides A (1a) and B (2), were identified as 3-O-[-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(12)--L-arabinopyranosyl]-28-O-[-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(14)--D-glucopyranosyl-(16)--D-glucopyranosyl]-3,23-dihydroxylup-20(29)-en-28-oic acid and 3-O-{-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(12)-[-D-glucopyranosyl-(14)]--L-arabinopyranosyl}-28-O-[-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(14)--D-glucopyranosyl-(16)--D-glucopyranosyl]-3,23-dihydroxylup-20(29)-en-28-oic acid. The other two glycosides were identified as previously known hederasaponin C (3) from Hedera helix and glycoside III (4) from Pulsatilla cernua.  相似文献

A basic requirement for that type ofL 2-phase which exists in the system sodium octanoate-octanoic acid-water is the formation of acid-soaps. In order for the phase to be formed at all, the temperature must lie above the melting point of the fatty acid so that a reaction in non-aqueous milieu between neutral soap and fatty acid is possible. In order to obtain the characteristic shape and complete extension of the phase in direction of high water content the temperature must be so high that also the hydrated acid-soaps occur in fluid state. On the other hand the temperature cannot be so high that the acid-soaps become unstable.At temperatures at which the phase has obtained its full extension those circumstances differs which in different regions regulate the location of the phase borders; they depend on the composition of the acid soaps and on their amounts. In that part of the phase where the molar ratio between octanoic acid and sodium octanoate lies between 2 and 3 and where one has a continuous transition from reversed to normal structure only the two acid octanoates 1 NaC8 2 HC8 x H2O and 1 NaC8 3 HC8 x H2O occur and both are at 20 °C in fluid state.At water contents from about 22 % to 40 % the hydrate-water molecules belonging to the first mentioned soap are capable of contributing actively to the formation of large aggregates of acid-soap, a process which however is counteracted by the inmixing of the latter acid-soap. This mixture of the two acid-soaps decides in this region where the border of the phase will lie in direction towards an increased content of sodium octanoate; the result is that in spite of the fact that the hydration is increased, the border is only slowly displaced towards a higher content of fatty acid. As soon as the hydration of the acid octanoates has been completed and the additional water occurs as unbound bulkwater, the location of the phase boundary will no longer be influenced by the water content — now it will be the amphiphilic composition of the acid-soaps that determines the location of the border and it remains at the molar ratio 2.5 between octanoic acid and sodium octanoate at water contents from about 40% and up to 82%.In the direction of decreasing content of neutral sodium octanoate and increased content of water theL 2-phase both at the highest content of fatty acid and the highest contents of water will be in equilibrium with the water-richL 1-phase; in the first mentioned region with theL 1-phase below the lac where at the border it is saturated with octanoic acid and in the latter region with theL 1-phase just above the lac, where the dilute sodium octanoate solution contains dissolved 1 NaC8 1HC8 x H2O. In the large central part of theL 2-phase, from about 20 % to about 86 % of water, the location of the border is dominated by the acid octanoate 1 NaC8 3 HC8 x H2O and that makes an equilibrium with theL 1-phase impossible; instead one has an equilibrium via a two-phase zone between the amphiphile-rich region of theL 2-phase and its water-rich region. In the first region the location of the border is regulated by the decreasing capability of the hydrated acid octanoate 1 NaC8 3 HC8 x H2O to dissolve octanoic acid; in the latter it is regulated by the fact that 1 NaC8 3 HC8 x H2O is the most fatty acid-rich acid-soap that is formed and that the octanoic acid is very little soluble in water and in the aqueous solution of this acidsoap.The middle part of theL 2-phase, especially the region between about 55 % and 82 % of water, constitutes a direct continuation of the liquid crystalline lamellarD-phase. The liquid crystalline character of theD-phase is lost at the transition, but the lamellar organization is retained. That the molecules at least up to a water content of about 40 % are of the original reversed type and have an elongated shape with a central part of hydrated polar groups, from which core the hydrocarbon chains extend in two opposite directions, is the reason to that they, at crowding, form transient layer-like agglomerates of tightly packed more or less parallel molecules; this facilitates the transformation to coherent double amphiphilic layers, in which all molecules lie with the hydrated polar groups outwards toward coherent domains of bulk-water, without another liquid phase occurs.  相似文献

-Picolinium-p-chlorophenacylide (-PCFY) acts as a retarder for polymerization of N-vinyl pyrrolidone. The polymerization runs were carried out at 60°C using benzene as an inert solvent. The kinetic equation for the present system may be written asR p [-PCPY]–1.0 [AIBN]0.66[N-VP]1.0. The value of overall energy of activation for polymerization in presence and absence of-PCPY was computed as 44.0 and 42.3 kJ mol–1, respectively. The inverse relationship ofR p and¯M v with-PCPY suggests that-PCPY acts as a polymerization retarder. The retarding effect is also evidenced by higher initiator exponent value and higher value of energy of activation in presence of ylide. A mechanism is also proposed in which polymer propagating chain combines with one ylide component to give resonance stabilized radical.  相似文献

The technique of small angle neutron scattering (SANS) has been used to study the conformation of polystyrene chains in dilute solution under a constant shear gradient. The experiments reveal a distinct anisotropy of the molecular dimensions with regard to the directions parallel and perpendicular to the flow direction on the 2D-multidetector. The deformation ratio of the single polymer chain (R 2/R iso 2 )–1 as a function of the reduced shear gradient=([] · · M w G)/RT shows a transition from the ideal 2-behaviour for dynamic infinitely flexible coils found at small gradients, to a behaviour with smaller increase at larger. These results are qualitatively consistent with the theory of Cerf for a polymer with finite internal viscosity in a shear gradient. At low(<1), a better agreement with the model of a free-draining coil (Rouse behaviour) than with the Zimm model is observed.  相似文献

The effect of cationic surfactants (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and tetrabutylammonium iodide) and cationic polyelectrolyte polyethylenimine on the coefficient of friction and adhesion force p(during shear and tensile testing, respectively) at the point contacts between the individual fibers of cellulose, viscose, and cellulose acetate was studied. The comparison of these data with the results of -potential and adsorption measurements enabled us to relate the nonmonotonic dependence of parameters and pon the surfactant concentration to the changes in electrosurface properties and the hydrophilicity or hydrophobicity of the fibers. The specific free energy of interaction U[mJ/m2] was estimated for cellulose acetate fibers.  相似文献
