The study of nonlinear diffusion equations produces a number of peculiar phenomena not present in the standard linear theory. Thus, in the sub-field of very fast diffusion it is known that the Cauchy problem can be ill-posed, either because of non-uniqueness, or because of non-existence of solutions with small data. The equations we consider take the general form ut=(D(u,ux)ux)x or its several-dimension analogue. Fast diffusion means that D→∞ at some values of the arguments, typically as u→0 or ux→0. Here, we describe two different types of non-existence phenomena. Some fast-diffusion equations with very singular D do not allow for solutions with sign changes, while other equations admit only monotone solutions, no oscillations being allowed. The examples we give for both types of anomaly are closely related. The most typical examples are vt=(vx/∣v∣)x and ut=uxx/∣ux∣. For these equations, we investigate what happens to the Cauchy problem when we take incompatible initial data and perform a standard regularization. It is shown that the limit gives rise to an initial layer where the data become admissible (positive or monotone, respectively), followed by a standard evolution for all t>0, once the obstruction has been removed.  相似文献

The convergence to non-diffusive self-similar solutions is investigated for non-negative solutions to the Cauchy problem ? t u = Δ p u + |? u| q when the initial data converge to zero at infinity. Sufficient conditions on the exponents p > 2 and q > 1 are given that guarantee that the diffusion becomes negligible for large times and the L -norm of u(t) converges to a positive value as t → ∞.  相似文献

In this paper, we will study the lower bounds of the life span (the maximal existence time) of solutions to the initial‐boundary value problems with small initial data and zero Neumann boundary data on exterior domain for one‐dimensional general quasilinear wave equations utt?uxx=b(u,Du)uxx+F(u,Du). Our lower bounds of the life span of solutions in the general case and special case are shorter than that of the initial‐Dirichlet boundary value problem for one‐dimensional general quasilinear wave equations. We clarify that although the lower bounds in this paper are same as that in the case of Robin boundary conditions obtained in the earlier paper, however, the results in this paper are not the trivial generalization of that in the case of Robin boundary conditions because the fundamental Lemmas 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, and 2.7, that is, the priori estimates of solutions to initial‐boundary value problems with Neumann boundary conditions, are established differently, and then the specific estimates in this paper are different from that in the case of Robin boundary conditions. Another motivation for the author to write this paper is to show that the well‐posedness of problem 1.1 is the essential precondition of studying the lower bounds of life span of classical solutions to initial‐boundary value problems for general quasilinear wave equations. The lower bound estimates of life span of classical solutions to initial‐boundary value problems is consistent with the actual physical meaning. Finally, we obtain the sharpness on the lower bound of the life span 1.8 in the general case and 1.10 in the special case. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper the multidimensional mixed problem for the quasilinear pseudoparabolic equation ut-Lxu-εLxut=f(t,x,u) is considered. Lx is a differential operator, which composes (with boundary operator) a self adjoint operator. An existence, uniqueness and also continuous dependense on the small parameter ε>0 of generalized solution is proved. The estimation of the difference of exact and approximate solutions is obtained  相似文献

We consider a class of quasi-linear diffusion problems involving a matrix A(t,x,u) which blows up for a finite value m of the unknown u. Stationary and evolution equations are studied for L 1 data. We focus on the case where the solution u can reach the value m. For such problems we introduce a notion of renormalized solutions and we prove the existence of such solutions.   相似文献

This paper considers the existence and large time behavior of solutions to the convection-diffusion equation u t −Δu+b(x)·∇(u|u| q −1)=f(x, t) in ℝ n ×[0,∞), where f(x, t) is slowly decaying and q≥1+1/n (or in some particular cases q≥1). The initial condition u 0 is supposed to be in an appropriate L p space. Uniform and nonuniform decay of the solutions will be established depending on the data and the forcing term. This work is partially supported by an AMO Grant  相似文献

We study the global existence of solutions for certain equations of the form u t + f(u) x = γB(u x ) x + δu xxt ? αu xxxx , as γ > 0, δ > 0 and α > 0 aproach zero, and f and B are sufficiently smooth functions satisfying certain appropriate assumptions. We consider solutions of hyperbolic conservation laws regularized of this equations. Following a pioneering work by Schonbek and a work by LeFloch and Natalini, we establish the convergence of the regularized solutions towards discontinuous solutions of the hyperbolic conservation law.  相似文献

In this paper we study the existence of periodic solutions of the fourth-order equations uivpu″ − a(x)u + b(x)u3 = 0 and uivpu″ + a(x)ub(x)u3 = 0, where p is a positive constant, and a(x) and b(x) are continuous positive 2L-periodic functions. The boundary value problems (P1) and (P2) for these equations are considered respectively with the boundary conditions u(0) = u(L) = u″(0) = u″(L) = 0. Existence of nontrivial solutions for (P1) is proved using a minimization theorem and a multiplicity result using Clark's theorem. Existence of nontrivial solutions for (P2) is proved using the symmetric mountain-pass theorem. We study also the homoclinic solutions for the fourth-order equation uiv + pu″ + a(x)ub(x)u2c(x)u3 = 0, where p is a constant, and a(x), b(x), and c(x) are periodic functions. The mountain-pass theorem of Brezis and Nirenberg and concentration-compactness arguments are used.  相似文献

The initial-boundary value problem in a semi-infinite strip (0, ∞)×(0, T) for a degenerate parabolic equation of the form u, t= φ(u)xx + b(x)φ(u)x is considered. The properties of solutions in the case where the initial function is compactly supported and for constant initial and boundary data are investigated.  相似文献

This paper deals with the problem ? Δ p u + α(x)|u| p?2 u = β(x)f(|u|) in Ω, subjected to the zero Neumann boundary condition, where p > 1, Ω ? ? N is bounded with smooth boundary, α, β ? L (Ω), essinfΩβ > 0, and f:[0,+ ∞) → ? is a not necessarily continuous nonlinearity that oscillates either at the origin or at the infinity. By using nonsmooth variational methods, we establish in both cases the existence of infinitely many distinct non-negative solutions of the Neumann problem. In our framework, α:Ω → ? may be a sign-changing or even a nonpositive potential, which is not permitted usually in earlier works.  相似文献

In this paper we study the generalized Burgers equation ut+(u2/2)x=f(t)uxx, where f(t)>0 for t>0. We show the existence and uniqueness of classical solutions to the initial value problem of the generalized Burgers equation with rough initial data belonging to , as well it is obtained the decay rates of u in Lp norm are algebra order for p∈[1,∞[.  相似文献

The degenerate parabolic equation u t + ? x [u 3(u xxx  + u x  ? sin x)] = 0 models the evolution of a thin liquid film on a stationary horizontal cylinder. It is shown here that for each mass there is a unique steady state, given by a droplet hanging from the bottom of the cylinder that meets the dry region with zero contact angle. The droplet minimizes the associated energy functional and attracts all strong solutions that satisfy certain energy and entropy inequalities, including all positive solutions. The distance of solutions from the steady state cannot decay faster than a power law.  相似文献

We consider weak solutions of an elliptic equation of the form ? i ? i (a ij u) = 0 and their asymptotic properties at an interior point. We assume that the coefficients are bounded, measurable, complex-valued functions that stabilize as x → 0 in that the norm of the matrix (a ij (x) ? δ ij ) on the annulus B 2r \ B r is bounded by a function Ω(r), where Ω2(r) satisfies the Dini condition at r = 0, as well as some technical monotonicity conditions; under these assumptions, solutions need not be continuous. Our main result is an explicit formula for the leading asymptotic term for solutions with at most a mild singularity at x = 0. As a consequence, we obtain upper and lower estimates for the L p -norm of solutions, as well as necessary and sufficient conditions for solutions to be bounded or tend to zero in L p -mean as r → 0.  相似文献

An approach is introduced to construct global discontinuous solutions in L∞ for Hamilton-Jacobi equations. This approach allows the initial data only in L∞ and applies to the equations with nonconvex Hamiltonians. The profit functions are introduced to formulate the notion of discontinuous solutions in L∞. The existence of global discontinuous solutions in L∞ is established. These solutions in L∞ coincide with the viscosity solutions and the minimax solutions, provided that the initial data are continuous. A prototypical equation is analyzed toexamine the L∞ stability of our L∞ solutions. The analysis also shows that global discontinuous solutions are determined by the topology in which the initial data are approximated.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the existence of global smooth solutions to 1D compressible isentropic Navier–Stokes equations with density‐dependent viscosity and free boundaries. The initial density ρ0W1,2n is bounded below away from zero and the initial velocity u0L2n. The viscosity coefficient µ is proportional to ρθ with 0<θ?1, where ρis the density. The existence and uniqueness of global solutions in Hi([0,1])(i = 1,2,4) have been established in (J. Math. Phys. 2009; 50 :023101; Meth. Appl. Anal. 2005; 12 :239–252; J. Differ. Equations 2008; 245:3956–3973; Commun. Pure Appl. Anal. 2008; 7 :373–381). By mathematical induction method, we will establish the existence of global smooth solutions to 1D compressible isentropic Navier–Stokes equations with density‐dependent viscosity and free boundaries when the initial data ρ0 and u0 are smooth. We study the continuous as well as the discontinuous solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi equationu t +H(u,Du) =g in ℝ n x ℝ+ withu(x, 0) =u 0(x). The HamiltonianH(s,p) is assumed to be convex and positively homogeneous of degree one inp for eachs in ℝ. IfH is non increasing ins, in general, this problem need not admit a continuous viscosity solution. Even in this case we obtain a formula for discontinuous viscosity solutions.  相似文献

The existence and uniqueness of locally-in-time solutions of the Cauchy problem to the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations is established. The initial velocity U 0 is of the form U 0(x) := u 0(x)−M x, where M is a real-valued matrix and u 0 is a bounded smooth function. Our solutions satisfy the equations in the classical sense, even though the semigroup is not analytic. If M is skew-symmetric, and u 0 is small and a sum of trigonometric functions, then obtained solutions can be extended globally-in-time with the exponential decay in time.  相似文献

We present a global existence theorem for solutions of utt ? ?iaik (x)?ku + ut = ?(t, x, u, ut, ?u, ?ut, ?2u), u(t = 0) = u0, u(=0)=u1, u(t, x), t ? 0, x?Ω.Ω equals ?3 or Ω is an exterior domain in ?3 with smoothly bounded star-shaped complement. In the latter case the boundary condition u| = 0 will be studied. The main theorem is obtained for small data (u0, u1) under certain conditions on the coefficients aik. The Lp - Lq decay rates of solutions of the linearized problem, based on a previously introduced generalized eigenfunction expansion ansatz, are used to derive the necessary a priori estimates.  相似文献
