Imidazolium salts (NHCewg ? HCl) with electronically variable substituents in the 4,5‐position (H,H or Cl,Cl or H,NO2 or CN,CN) and sterically variable substituents in the 1,3‐position (Me,Me or Et,Et or iPr,iPr or Me,iPr) were synthesized and converted into the respective [AgI(NHC)ewg] complexes. The reactions of [(NHC)RuCl2(CHPh)(py)2] with the [AgI(NHCewg)] complexes provide the respective [(NHC)(NHCewg)RuCl2(CHPh)] complexes in excellent yields. The catalytic activity of such complexes in ring‐closing metathesis (RCM) reactions leading to tetrasubstituted olefins was studied. To obtain quantitative substrate conversion, catalyst loadings of 0.2–0.5 mol % at 80 °C in toluene are sufficient. The complex with the best catalytic activity in such RCM reactions and the fastest initiation rate has an NHCewg group with 1,3‐Me,iPr and 4,5‐Cl,Cl substituents and can be synthesized in 95 % isolated yield from the ruthenium precursor. To learn which one of the two NHC ligands acts as the leaving group in olefin metathesis reactions two complexes, [(FL‐NHC)(NHCewg)RuCl2(CHPh)] and [(FL‐NHCewg)(NHC)RuCl2(CHPh)], with a dansyl fluorophore (FL)‐tagged electron‐rich NHC ligand (FL‐NHC) and an electron‐deficient NHC ligand (FL‐NHCewg) were prepared. The fluorescence of the dansyl fluorophore is quenched as long as it is in close vicinity to ruthenium, but increases strongly upon dissociation of the respective fluorophore‐tagged ligand. In this manner, it was shown for ring‐opening metathesis ploymerization (ROMP) reactions at room temperature that the NHCewg ligand normally acts as the leaving group, whereas the other NHC ligand remains ligated to ruthenium.  相似文献

1,3‐Diarylsubstituted imidazolinium salts, (NHC‐H)Cl, 3, containing hydrogen or alkyl groups at the 4,5‐positions of the imidazolidine ring, served as precursors to rhodium(I) complexes [RhCl(NHC)COD], 4, which were converted into cis‐[RhCl(NHC)(CO)2] complexes, 5. All compounds prepared were characterized by elemental analyses, 1H NMR and 13C NMR. The relative σ‐donor/π‐acceptor strength of the NHC ligands was determined by means of IR spectroscopy of 5. The ability of NHCs in 4 to enchance activity was explored in the 1,2‐addition of phenylboronic acid to aldehydes. A good correlation was observed between catalytic activity and the electron‐donating power of the NHC ligands. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The molecular structure of the benzimidazol‐2‐ylidene–PdCl2–pyridine‐type PEPPSI (pyridine‐enhanced precatalyst, preparation, stabilization and initiation) complex {1,3‐bis[2‐(diisopropylamino)ethyl]benzimidazol‐2‐ylidene‐κC2}dichlorido(pyridine‐κN)palladium(II), [PdCl2(C5H5N)(C23H40N4)], has been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and NMR spectroscopy, and natural bond orbital (NBO) and charge decomposition analysis (CDA). Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) searches were used to understand the structural characteristics of the PEPPSI complexes in comparison with the usual N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes. The presence of weak C—H…Cl‐type hydrogen‐bond and π–π stacking interactions between benzene rings were verified using NCI plots and Hirshfeld surface analysis. The preferred method in the CDA of PEPPSI complexes is to separate their geometries into only two fragments, i.e. the bulky NHC ligand and the remaining fragment. In this study, the geometry of the PEPPSI complex is separated into five fragments, namely benzimidazol‐2‐ylidene (Bimy), two chlorides, pyridine (Py) and the PdII ion. Thus, the individual roles of the Pd atom and the Py ligand in the donation and back‐donation mechanisms have been clearly revealed. The NHC ligand in the PEPPSI complex in this study acts as a strong σ‐donor with a considerable amount of π‐back‐donation from Pd to Ccarbene. The electron‐poor character of PdII is supported by π‐back‐donation from the Pd centre and the weakness of the Pd—N(Py) bond. According to CSD searches, Bimy ligands in PEPPSI complexes have a stronger σ‐donating ability than imidazol‐2‐ylidene ligands in PEPPSI complexes.  相似文献

The new N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) precursors 4, ‐dicyano‐1, ‐dimesityl‐ ( 9 ) and 4, 5‐dicyano‐1, 3‐dineopentyl‐2‐(pentafluorophenyl)imidazoline ( 14 ) were synthesized. The structure of 9 could be determined by X‐ray crystallography. With the 2‐pentafluorophenyl‐substituted imidazolines 9 and 14 , the [AgCl(NHC)], [RhCl(COD)(NHC)], and [RhCl(CO)2(NHC)] complexes [NHC = 4, 5‐dicyano‐1, 3‐dimesitylimidazol‐2‐ylidene ( 3 ) and 4, 5‐dicyano‐1, 3‐dineopentylimidazol‐2‐ylidene ( 4 )] were obtained. Crystal structures of [AgCl( 3 )] ( 15 ), [RhCl(COD)( 3 )] ( 17 ), [RhCl(COD)( 4 )] ( 18 ), and [RhCl(CO)2( 3 )] ( 19 ) were solved and with the crystal data of 19 , the percent buried volume ( %Vbur) of 31.8(±0.1) % was determined for NHC 3 . Infrared spectra of the imidazolines 9 and 14 and of the complexes 15 – 20 were recorded and the CO stretching frequencies of complexes 19 and 20 were used to determine the Tolman electronic parameters of the newly obtained NHCs 3 (TEP: 2060 cm–1) and 4 (TEP: 2061 cm–1), thus proving that 1, 3‐substitution of maleonitrile‐NHCs does not have a significant effect for the high π‐acceptor strength of these carbenes.  相似文献

It is a current trend to explore multi‐bonded and unsaturated main group compounds that can interact with small molecules, in order to find non‐metal catalysts. Notably, Braunschweig et al. found that diboryne stabilized by N‐heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) can bind and activate CO. Here we explore the bonding nature of B2(NHC)2 and its activation mechanism for CO from a novel theoretical perspective. While the ground state of B2 is of a single bond, the approach of NHCs excites B2 to its third excited state of a triple bond with two significant σ‐holes at the two ends. The subsequent electrostatic attraction drives the formation of B2(NHC)2. However, only one of the two π bonds (HOMOs) of B2(NHC)2 fits to one of the degenerate LUMOs of CO. Interestingly, the strong steric repulsion between CO and B2(NHC)2 leads to the HOMO–LUMO swap in the latter. Subsequently, both HOMO and HOMO?1 of B2(NHC)2 can effectively interact with the two π* anti‐bonding orbitals (LUMO and LUMO+1) of CO, resulting in substantial electron back‐donation and the ultimate activation of CO.  相似文献

The treatment of benzylallene‐substituted internal alkynes with [RhCl(CO)2]2 effects a novel cycloisomerization by C(sp2)?H bond activation to produce hexahydrophenanthrene derivatives. The reaction likely proceeds through consecutive formation of a rhodabicyclo[4.3.0] intermediate, σ‐bond metathesis between the C(sp2)?H bond on the benzene ring and the C(sp2)?RhIII bond, and isomerization between three σ‐, π‐, and σ‐allylrhodium(III) species, which was proposed based on experiments with deuterated substrates.  相似文献

Strategies for the synthesis of highly electrophilic AuI complexes from either hydride‐ or chloride‐containing precursors have been investigated by employing sterically encumbered Dipp‐substituted expanded‐ring NHCs (Dipp=2,6‐iPr2C6H3). Thus, complexes of the type (NHC)AuH have been synthesised (for NHC=6‐Dipp or 7‐Dipp) and shown to feature significantly more electron‐rich hydrides than those based on ancillary imidazolylidene donors. This finding is consistent with the stronger σ‐donor character of these NHCs, and allows for protonation of the hydride ligand. Such chemistry leads to the loss of dihydrogen and to the trapping of the [(NHC)Au]+ fragment within a dinuclear gold cation containing a bridging hydride. Activation of the hydride ligand in (NHC)AuH by B(C6F5)3, by contrast, generates a species (at low temperatures) featuring a [HB(C6F5)3]? fragment with spectroscopic signatures similar to the “free” borate anion. Subsequent rearrangement involves B?C bond cleavage and aryl transfer to the carbophilic metal centre. Under halide abstraction conditions utilizing Na[BArf4] (Arf=C6H3(CF3)2‐3,5), systems of the type [(NHC)AuCl] (NHC=6‐Dipp or 7‐Dipp) generate dinuclear complexes [{(NHC)Au}2(μ‐Cl)]+ that are still electrophilic enough at gold to induce aryl abstraction from the [BArf4]? counterion.  相似文献

Eight new N‐Hoveyda‐type complexes were synthesized in yields of 67–92 % through reaction of [RuCl2(NHC)(Ind)(py)] (NHC=1,3‐bis(2,4,6‐trimethylphenylimidazolin)‐2‐ylidene (SIMes) or 1,3‐bis(2,6‐diisopropylphenylimidazolin)‐2‐ylidene (SIPr), Ind=3‐phenylindenylid‐1‐ene, py=pyridine) with various 1‐ or 1,2‐substituted ferrocene compounds with vinyl and amine or imine substituents. The redox potentials of the respective complexes were determined; in all complexes an iron‐centered oxidation reaction occurs at potentials close to E=+0.5 V. The crystal structures of the reduced and of the respective oxidized Hoveyda‐type complexes were determined and show that the oxidation of the ferrocene unit has little effect on the ruthenium environment. Two of the eight new complexes were found to be switchable catalysts, in that the reduced form is inactive in the ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of cis‐cyclooctene (COE), whereas the oxidized complexes produce polyCOE. The other complexes are not switchable catalysts and are either inactive or active in both reduced and oxidized states.  相似文献

Singly NHC‐coordinated (aminoboryl)aminoborenium salts react with Na2[Fe(CO)4] to yield stable coordination complexes of aminoborylene‐stabilized aminoborylenes, which exhibit exceptional σ‐donor properties. Upon photolytic CO extrusion from the metal center, the diboron ligand adopts a novel η3‐BBN coordination mode, where bond‐strengthening backdonation from the metal center into the vacant B?B π‐orbital is observed. This bonding situation can be alternatively described as a Fe‐diaminodiborene complex. In a related reduction of CAAC‐stabilized (aminoboryl)aminoborenium with KC8, the reduced species can be captured with nucleophiles to form three‐coordinate (diaminoboryl)borylenes, where both amino groups have migrated to the distal boron atom. Collectively, these reactions illustrate the isomeric flexibility imparted by amino groups on this reduced diboron system, thus opening multiple avenues of novel reactivity.  相似文献

Neutral mesoionic carbenes (MICs) have emerged as an important class of carbene, however they are found in the free form or ligated to only a few d‐block ions. Unprecedented f‐block MIC complexes [M(N′′)3{CN(Me)C(Me)N(Me)CH}] (M=U, Y, La, Nd; N′′=N(SiMe3)2) are reported. These complexes were prepared by a formal 1,4‐proton migration reaction when the metal triamides [M(N′′)3] were treated with the N‐heterocyclic olefin H2C=C(NMeCH)2, which constitutes a new, general way to prepare MIC complexes. Quantum chemical calculations on the 5f3 uranium(III) complex suggest the presence of a U=C donor‐acceptor bond, composed of a MIC→U σ‐component and a U(5f)→MIC(2p) π‐back‐bond, but for the d0f0 Y and La and 4f3 Nd congeners only MIC→M σ‐bonding is found. Considering the generally negligible π‐acidity of MICs, this is surprising and highlights that greater consideration should possibly be given to recognizing MICs as potential π‐acid ligands when coordinated to strongly reducing metals.  相似文献

Carbenes derived from five‐membered heterocycles with different numbers of nitrogen atoms ranging from two to four lead formally either to normal N‐heterocyclic or mesoionic carbenes with, in some cases, the same skeletal structure. The electronic structures of fourteen of these compounds were examined by means of DFT calculations at the B3LYP/aug‐cc‐pVTZ level. The examined parameters include the energies of the σ‐lone pair at Ccarbene and the π‐HOMO of the protonated form, which are correlated to the first and second proton affinities. The singlet–triplet energy gap was used as a measure of the stability of the N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) towards dimerisation. Natural population analysis provided insight into the variation of the pπ population and the natural charge at Ccarbene with NHC structure. Additionally, the transition metal? NHC bond in L‐AuCl and L‐TiCl4 and the nature of the orbital interactions between the NHC and the transition‐metal fragment were analysed in detail by the extended transition state–natural orbitals for chemical valence (ETS–NOCV) approach at the BP86/TZ2P level. Similarities and differences between the NHC? gold and the NHC? titanium bond are discussed, and trends in key bonding properties can be traced back to the variation of the electronic parameters of the NHC.  相似文献

New dinuclear Rh(I)–Phosphines of the types [Rh(µ‐azi)(CO)(L)]2 ( 1,3 – 7 ) and [Rh(µ‐azi)(L)]2 ( 8 ) with pendant polar groups, and a chealated mononuclear compound [Rh(azi‐H)(CO)(L)] ( 2 ) (where azi = 7‐azaindolate, L = polar phosphine) were isolated from the reaction of [Rh(µ‐Cl)(CO)2]2 with 7‐azaindolate followed by some polar mono‐ and bis‐phosphines ( L 1 – L 8 ). A relationship between Δδ31P‐NMR and ν(CO) values was considered to define the impact of polar‐groups on σ‐donor properties of the phosphines. These compounds were evaluated as catalyst precursors in the hydroformylation of 1‐hexene and 1‐dodecene both in mono‐ and biphasic aqueous organic systems. While the biphasic hydroformylations (water + toluene) gave exclusively the aldehydes, the monophasic one (aqueous ethanol) showed propensity to form both aldehydes and alcohols. The influence of bimetallic cooperative effects, and σ‐donor and hydrophilic properties of the phosphines with pendant polar‐groups in enhancing the yields and selectivity of hydroformylation products was emphasized. In addition, when strong σ‐donor phosphine was used, the π‐acceptor nature of pyridine ring of 7‐azaindolate spacer was found to be a considerable factor in facilitating the facile cleavage of CO group during hydroformylation and in supplementing the cooperative effects. For a long time d10‐ML2 fragments have been known for their potential to activate unreactive bonds by oxidative addition. In the development of more active species, two approaches have proven successful: the use of strong σ‐donating ligands leading to electron‐rich metal centers and the employment of chelating ligands resulting in a bent coordination geometry. Combining these two strategies, we synthesized bis‐NHC chelate complexes of nickel(0) and platinum(0). Bis(1,5‐cyclooctadiene)nickel(0) and ‐platinum(0) react with bisimidazolium salts, deprotonated in situ at room temperature, to yield tetrahedral or trigonal‐planar bis‐NHC chelate olefin complexes. The synthesis and characterization of these complexes as well as a first example of C? C bond activation with these systems are reported. Due to the enforced cis arrangement of two NHCs, these compounds should open interesting perspectives for bond‐activation chemistry and catalysis.  相似文献

In this work, the tuneability of the π acceptor or donor properties of a set of N‐heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) with a wide spectrum of electronic characteristics is established by means of density functional theory and energy decomposition analysis (EDA) tools. Even though the main orbital interaction contribution to the NHC coordination is the σ donation, a significant contribution of the π interactions to the bond is observed. By means of carefully selected coordination sites, different contributions to the π interactions could be identified and isolated. It includes not only the well known back donation and donation interactions, but also the intrafragment polarization, which has not been considered in previous studies. This can be obtained through the use of the extended transition state method for EDA combined with the natural orbitals for chemical valence and the constrained space orbital variation analysis. The contributions vary with the position of the heteroatoms and the presence of exocyclic substituents; the donation/backdonation π interactions between NHC and the coordination site can range between 2 and 61% of the total π orbital interactions, while the rest is owed to intrafragment polarization. Our results do not only contribute to the understanding of the electronic structure of NHC‐based complexes, giving ways to improve their catalytic properties, but also provide comprehension on the modelization methods used to study their donor–acceptor interactions. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The phenylidenepyridine (ppy) palladacycles [PdCl(ppy)(IMes)] ( 4 ) [IMes = 1,3‐bis(mesityl)imidazol‐2‐ylidene] and [PdCl(ppy){(CN)2IMes}] ( 6 ) [(CN)2IMes = 4,5‐dicyano‐1,3‐bis(mesityl)imidazol‐2‐ylidene] were prepared by facile two step syntheses, starting with the reaction of palladium(II) chloride with 2‐phenylpyridine followed by subsequent addition of the NHC ligand to the precatalyst precursor [PdCl(ppy)]2. Suitable crystals for the X‐ray analysis of the complexes 4 and 6 were obtained. It was shown that 6 has a shorter NHC‐palladium bond than the IMes complex 4 . The difference of the palladium carbene bond lengths based on the higher π‐acceptor strength of (CN)2IMes in comparison to IMes. Thus, (CN)2IMes should stabilize the catalytically active central palladium atom better than IMes. As a measure for the π‐acceptor strength of (CN)2IMes compared to IMes, the selone (CN)2IMes · Se ( 7 ) was prepared and characterized by 77Se‐NMR spectroscopy. The π‐acceptor strength of 7 was illuminated by the shift of its 77Se‐NMR signal. The 77Se‐NMR signal of 7 was shifted to much higher frequencies than the 77Se‐NMR signal of IMes · Se. Catalytic experiments using the Mizoroki‐Heck reaction of aryl chlorides with n‐butyl acrylate showed that 6 is the superior performer in comparison to 4 . Using complex 6 , an extensive substrate screening of 26 different aryl bromides with n‐butyl acrylate was performed. Complex 6 is a suitable precatalyst for para‐substituted aryl bromides. The catalytically active species was identified by mercury poisoning experiments to be palladium nanoparticles.  相似文献

The N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) adducts Zn(CpR)2(NHC)] (CpR=C5HMe4, C5H4SiMe3; NHC=ItBu, IDipp (Dipp=2,6‐diisopropylphenyl), IMes (Mes=mesityl), SIMes) were prepared and shown to be active catalysts for the hydrogenation of imines, whereas decamethylzincocene [ZnCp*2] is highly active for the hydrogenation of ketones in the presence of noncoordinating NHCs. The abnormal carbene complex [Zn(OCHPh2)2(aItBu)]2 was formed from spontaneous rearrangement of the ItBu ligand during incomplete hydrogenation of benzophenone. Two isolated ZnI adducts [Zn2Cp*2(NHC)] (NHC=ItBu, SIMes) are presented and characterized as weak adducts on the basis of 13C NMR spectroscopic and X‐ray diffraction experiments. A mechanistic proposal for the reduction of [ZnCp*2] with H2 to give [Zn2Cp*2] is discussed.  相似文献

A combined experimental and theoretical study on the main‐group tricarbonyls [B(CO)3] in solid noble‐gas matrices and [C(CO)3]+ in the gas phase is presented. The molecules are identified by comparing the experimental and theoretical IR spectra and the vibrational shifts of nuclear isotopes. Quantum chemical ab initio studies suggest that the two isoelectronic species possess a tilted η11‐CO)‐bonded carbonyl ligand, which serves as an unprecedented one‐electron donor ligand. Thus, the central atoms in both complexes still retain an 8‐electron configuration. A thorough analysis of the bonding situation gives quantitative information about the donor and acceptor properties of the different carbonyl ligands. The linearly bonded CO ligands are classical two‐electron donors that display classical σ‐donation and π‐back‐donation following the Dewar–Chatt–Duncanson model. The tilted CO ligand is a formal one‐electron donor that is bonded by σ‐donation and π‐back‐donation that involves the singly occupied orbital of the radical fragments [B(CO)2] and [C(CO)2]+.  相似文献

Using four basis sets, 6‐311G(d,p), 6‐31+G(d,p), 6‐311++G(2d,2p), and 6‐311++G(3df,3pd), the optimized structures with all real frequencies were obtained at the MP2 level for dimers CH2O? HF, CH2O? H2O, CH2O? NH3, and CH2O? CH4. The structures of CH2O? HF, CH2O? H2O, and CH2O? NH3 are cycle‐shaped, which result from the larger bend of σ‐type hydrogen bonds. The bend of σ‐type H‐bond O…H? Y (Y?F, O, N) is illustrated and interpreted by an attractive interaction of a chemically intuitive π‐type hydrogen bond. The π‐type hydrogen bond is the interaction between one of the acidic H atoms of CH2O and lone pair(s) on the F atom in HF, the O atom in H2O, or the N atom in NH3. By contrast with above the three dimers, for CH2O? CH4, because there is not a π‐type hydrogen‐bond to bend its linear hydrogen bond, the structure of CH2O? CH4 is a noncyclic shaped. The interaction energy of hydrogen bonds and the π‐type H‐bond are calculated and discussed at the CCSD(T)/6‐311++G(3df,3pd) level. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2005  相似文献

An extended π‐system containing two [3]cumulene fragments separated by a p‐carboquinoid and stabilized by two capping N‐heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) has been prepared. Mono‐ and bis(imidazolidinium ethynyl) cations have also been synthesized from the reaction of an NHC with phenylethynyl bromide or 1,4‐bis(bromoethynyl)benzene. Cyclic voltammetry coupled with synthetic and structural studies showed that the dication is readily reduced to a neutral, singlet bis‐1,4‐([3]cumulene)‐p‐carboquinoid as a result of the π‐accepting properties of the capping NHCs.  相似文献
