In this paper, we consider a class of parabolic partial differential equations with a time delay. The first model equation is the mixed problems for scalar generalized diffusion equation with a delay, whereas the second model equation is a delayed reaction‐diffusion equation. Both of these models have inherent complex nature because of which their analytical solutions are hardly obtainable, and therefore, one has to seek numerical treatments for their approximate solutions. To this end, we develop a fitted Galerkin spectral method for solving this problem. We derive optimal error estimates based on weak formulations for the fully discrete problems. Some numerical experiments are also provided at the end. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This article discusses the spectral collocation method for numerically solving nonlocal problems: one‐dimensional space fractional advection–diffusion equation; and two‐dimensional linear/nonlinear space fractional advection–diffusion equation. The differentiation matrixes of the left and right Riemann–Liouville and Caputo fractional derivatives are derived for any collocation points within any given bounded interval. Several numerical examples with different boundary conditions are computed to verify the efficiency of the numerical schemes and confirm the exponential convergence; the physical simulations for Lévy–Feller advection–diffusion equation and space fractional Fokker–Planck equation with initial δ‐peak and reflecting boundary conditions are performed; and the eigenvalue distributions of the iterative matrix for a variety of systems are displayed to illustrate the stabilities of the numerical schemes in more general cases. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article we describe a numerical method to solve a nonhomogeneous diffusion equation with arbitrary geometry by combining the method of fundamental solutions (MFS), the method of particular solutions (MPS), and the eigenfunction expansion method (EEM). This forms a meshless numerical scheme of the MFS‐MPS‐EEM model to solve nonhomogeneous diffusion equations with time‐independent source terms and boundary conditions for any time and any shape. Nonhomogeneous diffusion equation with complex domain can be separated into a Poisson equation and a homogeneous diffusion equation using this model. The Poisson equation is solved by the MFS‐MPS model, in which the compactly supported radial basis functions are adopted for the MPS. On the other hand, utilizing the EEM the diffusion equation is first translated to a Helmholtz equation, which is then solved by the MFS together with the technique of the singular value decomposition (SVD). Since the present meshless method does not need mesh generation, nodal connectivity, or numerical integration, the computational effort and memory storage required are minimal as compared with other numerical schemes. Test results for two 2D diffusion problems show good comparability with the analytical solutions. The proposed algorithm is then extended to solve a problem with irregular domain and the results compare very well with solutions of a finite element scheme. Therefore, the present scheme has been proved to be very promising as a meshfree numerical method to solve nonhomogeneous diffusion equations with time‐independent source terms of any time frame, and for any arbitrary geometry. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, we present an efficient computational method for finding approximate solution of the multi term time‐fractional diffusion equation. The approximate solution is presented in the form of a finite series in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space. The convergence of proposed method is studied under some hypothesis which provides the theoretical basis of proposed method for solving the considered equation. Finally, some numerical experiments are considered to examine the efficiency of proposed method in the sense of accuracy and CPU time.  相似文献

The critical delays of a delay‐differential equation can be computed by solving a nonlinear two‐parameter eigenvalue problem. The solution of this two‐parameter problem can be translated to solving a quadratic eigenvalue problem of squared dimension. We present a structure preserving QR‐type method for solving such quadratic eigenvalue problem that only computes real‐valued critical delays; that is, complex critical delays, which have no physical meaning, are discarded. For large‐scale problems, we propose new correction equations for a Newton‐type or Jacobi–Davidson style method, which also forces real‐valued critical delays. We present three different equations: one real‐valued equation using a direct linear system solver, one complex valued equation using a direct linear system solver, and one Jacobi–Davidson style correction equation that is suitable for an iterative linear system solver. We show numerical examples for large‐scale problems arising from PDEs. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This article describes a numerical method based on the boundary integral equation and dual reciprocity method(DRM) for solving the one‐dimensional advection‐diffusion equations. The concept of DRM is used to convert the domain integral to the boundary that leads to an integration free method. The time derivative is approximated by the time‐stepping method. Numerical results are presented for some problems to demonstrate the usefulness and accuracy of the new approach. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2013  相似文献

In this paper, we study a backward problem for an inhomogeneous fractional diffusion equation in a bounded domain. By applying the properties of Mittag‐Leffler functions and the method of eigenvalue expansion, we establish some results about the existence, uniqueness, and regularity of the mild solutions as well as the classical solutions of the proposed problem in a weighted Hölder continuous function space.  相似文献

We propose an accurate and energy-stable parametric finite element method for solving the sharp-interface continuum model of solid-state dewetting in three-dimensional space. The model describes the motion of the film\slash vapor interface with contact line migration and is governed by the surface diffusion equation with proper boundary conditions at the contact line. We present a weak formulation for the problem, in which the contact angle condition is weakly enforced. By using piecewise linear elements in space and backward Euler method in time, we then discretize the formulation to obtain a parametric finite element approximation, where the interface and its contact line are evolved simultaneously. The resulting numerical method is shown to be well-posed and unconditionally energy-stable. Furthermore, the numerical method is generalized to the case of anisotropic surface energies in the Riemannian metric form. Numerical results are reported to show the convergence and efficiency of the proposed numerical method as well as the anisotropic effects on the morphological evolution of thin films in solid-state dewetting.  相似文献

Separation of variables is a well‐known technique for solving differential equations. However, it is seldom used in practical applications since it is impossible to carry out a separation of variables in most cases. In this paper, we propose the amplitude–shape approximation (ASA) which may be considered as an extension of the separation of variables method for ordinary differential equations. The main idea of the ASA is to write the solution as a product of an amplitude function and a shape function, both depending on time, and may be viewed as an incomplete separation of variables. In fact, it will be seen that such a separation exists naturally when the method of lines is used to solve certain classes of coupled partial differential equations. We derive new conditions which may be used to solve the shape equations directly and present a numerical algorithm for solving the resulting system of ordinary differential equations for the amplitude functions. Alternatively, we propose a numerical method, similar to the well‐established exponential time differencing method, for solving the shape equations. We consider stability conditions for the specific case corresponding to the explicit Euler method. We also consider a generalization of the method for solving systems of coupled partial differential equations. Finally, we consider the simple reaction diffusion equation and a numerical example from chemical kinetics to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. The ASA results in far superior numerical results when the relative errors are compared to the separation of variables method. Furthermore, the method leads to a reduction in CPU time as compared to using the Rosenbrock semi‐implicit method for solving a stiff system of ordinary differential equations resulting from a method of lines solution of a coupled pair of partial differential equations. The present amplitude–shape method is a simplified version of previous ones due to the use of a linear approximation to the time dependence of the shape function. In this paper, we are concerned with the backward problem of reconstructing the initial condition of a time‐fractional diffusion equation from interior measurements. We establish uniqueness results and provide stability analysis. Our method is based on the eigenfunction expansion of the forward solution and the Tikhonov regularization to tackle the ill‐posedness issue of the underlying inverse problem. Some numerical examples are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A competitive nonstandard semi‐explicit finite‐difference method is constructed and used to obtain numerical solutions of the diffusion‐free generalized Nagumo equation. Qualitative stability analysis and numerical simulations show that this scheme is more robust in comparison to some standard explicit methods such as forward Euler and the fourth‐order Runge‐Kutta method (RK4). The nonstandard scheme is extended to construct a semi‐explicit and an implicit scheme to solve the full Nagumo reaction‐diffusion equation. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper presents an efficient numerical technique for solving a class of time-fractional diffusion equation. The time-fractional derivative is described in the Caputo form. The L1 scheme is used for discretization of Caputo fractional derivative and a collocation approach based on sextic B-spline basis function is employed for discretization of space variable. The unconditional stability of the fully-discrete scheme is analyzed. Two numerical examples are considered to demonstrate the accuracy and applicability of our scheme. The proposed scheme is shown to be sixth order accuracy with respect to space variable and (2 − α)-th order accuracy with respect to time variable, where α is the order of temporal fractional derivative. The numerical results obtained are compared with other existing numerical methods to justify the advantage of present method. The CPU time for the proposed scheme is provided.  相似文献

We consider the American option pricing problem in the case where the underlying asset follows a jump‐diffusion process. We apply the method of Jamshidian to transform the problem of solving a homogeneous integro‐partial differential equation (IPDE) on a region restricted by the early exercise (free) boundary to that of solving an inhomogeneous IPDE on an unrestricted region. We apply the Fourier transform technique to this inhomogeneous IPDE in the case of a call option on a dividend paying underlying to obtain the solution in the form of a pair of linked integral equations for the free boundary and the option price. We also derive new results concerning the limit for the free boundary at expiry. Finally, we present a numerical algorithm for the solution of the linked integral equation system for the American call price, its delta and the early exercise boundary. We use the numerical results to quantify the impact of jumps on American call prices and the early exercise boundary.  相似文献

We present a method to solve boundary value problems using artificial neural networks (ANN). A trial solution of the differential equation is written as a feed-forward neural network containing adjustable parameters (the weights and biases). From the differential equation and its boundary conditions we prepare the energy function which is used in the back-propagation method with momentum term to update the network parameters. We improved energy function of ANN which is derived from Schrodinger equation and the boundary conditions. With this improvement of energy function we can use unsupervised training method in the ANN for solving the equation. Unsupervised training aims to minimize a non-negative energy function. We used the ANN method to solve Schrodinger equation for few quantum systems. Eigenfunctions and energy eigenvalues are calculated. Our numerical results are in agreement with their corresponding analytical solution and show the efficiency of ANN method for solving eigenvalue problems.  相似文献

We consider sojourn (or response) times in processor‐shared queues that have a finite customer capacity. Computing the response time of a tagged customer involves solving a finite system of linear ODEs. Writing the system in matrix form, we study the eigenvectors and eigenvalues in the limit as the size of the matrix becomes large. This corresponds to finite capacity models where the system can only hold a large number K of customers. Using asymptotic methods we reduce the eigenvalue problem to that of a standard differential equation, such as the Airy equation. The dominant eigenvalue leads to the tail of a customer's sojourn time distribution. Some numerical results are given to assess the accuracy of the asymptotic results.  相似文献

In this work, we study the convergence behavior of a recently developed space‐time conservation element and solution element method for solving conservation laws. In particular, we apply the method to a one‐dimensional time‐dependent convection‐diffusion equation possibly with high Peclet number. We prove that the scheme converges and we obtain an error bound. This method performs well even for strong convection dominance over diffusion with good long‐time accuracy. Numerical simulations are performed to verify the results. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this paper, we apply the dual reciprocity boundary elements method for the numerical solution of two‐dimensional linear and nonlinear time‐fractional modified anomalous subdiffusion equations and time‐fractional convection–diffusion equation. The fractional derivative of problems is described in the Riemann–Liouville and Caputo senses. We employ the linear radial basis function for interpolation of the nonlinear, inhomogeneous and time derivative terms. This method is improved by using a predictor–corrector scheme to overcome the nonlinearity which appears in the nonlinear problems under consideration. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed schemes are checked by five test problems. The proposed method is employed for solving some examples in two dimensions on unit square and also in complex regions to demonstrate the efficiency of the new technique. We explore a mechanism of pattern formation arising in processes described by a system of a single reaction–diffusion equation coupled with ordinary differential equations. Such systems of equations arise from the modeling of interactions between cellular processes and diffusing growth factors. We focus on the model of early carcinogenesis proposed by Marciniak‐Czochra and Kimmel, which is an example of a wider class of pattern formation models with an autocatalytic non‐diffusing component. We present a numerical study showing emergence of periodic and irregular spike patterns because of diffusion‐driven instability. To control the accuracy of simulations, we develop a numerical code on the basis of the finite‐element method and adaptive mesh grid. Simulations, supplemented by numerical analysis, indicate a novel pattern formation phenomenon on the basis of the emergence of nonstationary structures tending asymptotically to a sum of Dirac deltas. In this paper, we propose a finite difference/collocation method for two-dimensional time fractional diffusion equation with generalized fractional operator. The main purpose of this paper is to design a high order numerical scheme for the new generalized time fractional diffusion equation. First, a finite difference approximation formula is derived for the generalized time fractional derivative, which is verified with order $2-\alpha$ $(0<\alpha<1)$. Then, collocation method is introduced for the two-dimensional space approximation. Unconditional stability of the scheme is proved. To make the method more efficient, the alternating direction implicit method is introduced to reduce the computational cost. At last, numerical experiments are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the scheme.  相似文献

This article presents a finite element scheme with Newton's method for solving the time‐fractional nonlinear diffusion equation. For time discretization, we use the fractional Crank–Nicolson scheme based on backward Euler convolution quadrature. We discuss the existence‐uniqueness results for the fully discrete problem. A new discrete fractional Gronwall type inequality for the backward Euler convolution quadrature is established. A priori error estimate for the fully discrete problem in L2(Ω) norm is derived. Numerical results based on finite element scheme are provided to validate theoretical estimates on time‐fractional nonlinear Fisher equation and Huxley equation.  相似文献
