The second‐order rate coefficients for aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction between 1‐chloro‐2,4‐dinitrobenzene and aniline have been measured in aqueous solutions of ethanol and methanol at 25°C. The plots of rate constants versus mole fraction of water show a maximum in all‐aqueous solutions. The effect of four empirical solvent parameters including hydrogen bond donor acidity (α) dipolarity/polarizability (π*) normalized polarity (ENT) and solvophobicity (Sp) has been investigated. This investigation has been carried out by means of simple and multiple regression models. A dual‐parameter equation of log k2 versus Sp and α was obtained in all‐aqueous solutions (n = 41, r = 0.962, s = 0.053, p = 0.0000). This equation shows that solvophobicity and hydrogen bond donor acidity are important factors in the occurrence of the reaction and they have opposite effects on reaction rate. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ruthenium porphyrins (particularly [Ru(2,6‐Cl2tpp)CO]; tpp=tetraphenylporphinato) and RuCl3 can act as oxidation and/or Lewis acid catalysts for direct C‐3 alkylation of indoles, giving the desired products in high yields (up to 82 % based on 60–95 % substrate conversions). These ruthenium compounds catalyze oxidative coupling reactions of a wide variety of anilines and indoles bearing electron‐withdrawing or electron‐donating substituents with high regioselectivity when using tBuOOH as an oxidant, resulting in the alkylation of N‐arylindoles to 3‐{[(N‐aryl‐N‐alkyl)amino]methyl}indoles (yield: up to 82 %, conversion: up to 95 %) and the alkylation of N‐alkyl or N‐H indoles to 3‐[p‐(dialkylamino)benzyl]indoles (yield: up to 73 %, conversion: up to 92 %). A tentative reaction mechanism involving two pathways is proposed: an iminium ion intermediate may be generated by oxidation of an sp3 C? H bond of the alkylated aniline by an oxoruthenium species; this iminium ion could then either be trapped by an N‐arylindole (pathway A) or converted to formaldehyde, allowing a subsequent three‐component coupling reaction of the in situ generated formaldehyde with an N‐alkylindole and an aniline in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst (pathway B). The results of deuterium‐labeling experiments are consistent with the alkylation of N‐alkylindoles via pathway B. The relative reaction rates of [Ru(2,6‐Cl2tpp)CO]‐catalyzed oxidative coupling reactions of 4‐X‐substituted N,N‐dimethylanilines with N‐phenylindole (using tBuOOH as oxidant), determined through competition experiments, correlate linearly with the substituent constants σ (R2=0.989), giving a ρ value of ?1.09. This ρ value and the magnitudes of the intra‐ and intermolecular deuterium isotope effects (kH/kD) suggest that electron transfer most likely occurs during the initial stage of the oxidation of 4‐X‐substituted N,N‐dimethylanilines. Ruthenium‐catalyzed three‐component reaction of N‐alkyl/N‐H indoles, paraformaldehyde, and anilines gave 3‐[p‐(dialkylamino)benzyl]indoles in up to 82 % yield (conversion: up to 95 %).  相似文献

The reaction of dichlorido(cod)palladium(II) (cod = 1,5‐cyclooctadiene) with 2‐(benzylsulfanyl)aniline followed by heating in N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF) produces the linear trinuclear Pd3 complex bis(μ2‐1,3‐benzothiazole‐2‐thiolato)bis[μ2‐2‐(benzylsulfanyl)anilinido]dichloridotripalladium(II) N,N‐dimethylformamide disolvate, [Pd3(C7H4NS2)2(C13H12NS)2Cl2]·2C3H7NO. The molecule has symmetry and a Pd...Pd separation of 3.2012 (4) Å. The outer PdII atoms have a square‐planar geometry formed by an N,S‐chelating 2‐(benzylsulfanyl)anilinide ligand, a chloride ligand and the thiolate S atom of a bridging 1,3‐benzothiazole‐2‐thiolate ligand, while the central PdII core shows an all N‐coordinated square‐planar geometry. The geometry is perfectly planar within the PdN4 core and the N—Pd—N bond angles differ significantly [84.72 (15)° for the N atoms of ligands coordinated to the same outer Pd atom and 95.28 (15)° for the N atoms of ligands coordinated to different outer Pd atoms]. This trinuclear Pd3 complex is the first example of one in which 1,3‐benzothiazole‐2‐thiolate ligands are only N‐coordinated to one Pd centre. The 1,3‐benzothiazole‐2‐thiolate ligands were formed in situ from 2‐(benzylsulfanyl)aniline.  相似文献

The Rose Bengal‐sensitized photooxidations of the dipeptides l ‐tryptophyl‐l ‐phenylalanine (Trp‐Phe), l ‐tryptophyl‐l ‐tyrosine (Trp‐Tyr) and l ‐tryptophyl‐l ‐tryptophan (Trp‐Trp) have been studied in pH 7 water solution using static photolysis and time‐resolved methods. Kinetic results indicate that the tryptophan (Trp) moiety interacts with singlet molecular oxygen (O2(1Δg)) both through chemical reaction and through physical quenching, and that the photooxidations can be compared with those of equimolecular mixtures of the corresponding free amino acids, with minimum, if any, influence of the peptide bond on the chemical reaction. This is not a common behavior in other di‐ and polypeptides of photooxidizable amino acids. The ratio between chemical (kr) and overall (kt) rate constants for the interaction O2(1Δg)‐dipeptide indicates that Trp‐Phe and Trp‐Trp are good candidates to suffer photodynamic action, with krlkt values of 0.72 and 0.60, respectively (0.65 for free Trp). In the case of Trp‐Tyr, a lower krlkt value (0.18) has been found, likely as a result of the high component of physical deactivation of O2(1Δg) by the tyrosine moiety. The analysis of the photooxidation products shows that the main target for O2(1Δg) attack is the Trp group and suggests a much lower accumulation of kynurenine‐type products, as compared with free Trp. This is possibly because of the occurrence of another accepted alternative pathway of oxidation that gives rise to 3a‐oxidized hydrogenated pyrrolo[2,3‐b]indoles.  相似文献

The structures of two 1:1 proton‐transfer red–black dye compounds formed by reaction of aniline yellow [4‐(phenyldiazenyl)aniline] with 5‐sulfosalicylic acid and benzenesulfonic acid, and a 1:2 nontransfer adduct compound with 3,5‐dinitrobenzoic acid have been determined at either 130 or 200 K. The compounds are 2‐(4‐aminophenyl)‐1‐phenylhydrazin‐1‐ium 3‐carboxy‐4‐hydroxybenzenesulfonate methanol solvate, C12H12N3+·C7H5O6S·CH3OH, (I), 2‐(4‐aminophenyl)‐1‐phenylhydrazin‐1‐ium 4‐(phenyldiazenyl)anilinium bis(benzenesulfonate), 2C12H12N3+·2C6H5O3S, (II), and 4‐(phenyldiazenyl)aniline–3,5‐dinitrobenzoic acid (1/2), C12H11N3·2C7H4N2O6, (III). In compound (I), the diazenyl rather than the aniline group of aniline yellow is protonated, and this group subsequently takes part in a primary hydrogen‐bonding interaction with a sulfonate O‐atom acceptor, producing overall a three‐dimensional framework structure. A feature of the hydrogen bonding in (I) is a peripheral edge‐on cation–anion association also involving aromatic C—H...O hydrogen bonds, giving a conjoint R12(6)R12(7)R21(4) motif. In the dichroic crystals of (II), one of the two aniline yellow species in the asymmetric unit is diazenyl‐group protonated, while in the other the aniline group is protonated. Both of these groups form hydrogen bonds with sulfonate O‐atom acceptors and these, together with other associations, give a one‐dimensional chain structure. In compound (III), rather than proton transfer, there is preferential formation of a classic R22(8) cyclic head‐to‐head hydrogen‐bonded carboxylic acid homodimer between the two 3,5‐dinitrobenzoic acid molecules, which, in association with the aniline yellow molecule that is disordered across a crystallographic inversion centre, results in an overall two‐dimensional ribbon structure. This work has shown the correlation between structure and observed colour in crystalline aniline yellow compounds, illustrated graphically in the dichroic benzenesulfonate compound.  相似文献

1,3‐Dipolar cycloaddition of methyl diazoacetate to methyl acrylate was investigated by kinetic 1Н NMR spectroscopy. It was established that the mechanism of the process includes parallel formation of trans‐ and cis‐dimethyl‐4,5‐dihydro‐3H‐pyrazol‐3,5‐dicarboxylates as a result of [3 + 2]‐cycloaddition of methyl diazoacetate to methyl acrylate; the corresponding rate constants were denoted k1t and k1c. The reaction rate of the isomerization of 3Н‐pyrazolines to 4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐pyrazol‐3,5‐dicarboxylate (3Н → 1Н‐pyrazoline rearrangement) was found to be sensitive to both the methyl acrylate (k2t, k2c) and 1Н‐pyrazoline concentrations (k3t, k3c). Kinetic analysis showed that the proposed scheme is valid for various reagent concentrations. The numerical solution of the system of differential equations corresponded to the reaction scheme and was used to determine the complete set of reaction rate constants (k (× 105 M–1·s–1), 298 K; solvent, benzene‐d6): k1t = 2.3 ± 0.3, k1c = 1.6 ± 0.2, k2t = 1.1 ± 0.3, k2c = 1.8 ± 0.5, k3t = 1.2 ± 0.4, k3c = 2.2 ± 0.7.  相似文献

A series of neutral complexes, namely, [N‐(2‐hydroxy‐4‐nitrophenyl)‐3‐hydroxysalicylideneiminato]‐ diphenyltin(IV) ( Ia ), [N‐(2‐hydroxy‐4‐nitrophenyl)‐3‐methoxysalicylideneiminato]diphenyltin(IV) ( IIa ) and [N‐(2‐hydroxy‐4‐nitrophenyl)‐3‐ethoxysalicylideneiminato]diphenyltin(IV) ( IIIa ) were prepared by the reaction of diphenyltin dichloride on the corresponding Schiff bases. The Schiff bases were the reaction products of 2‐hydroxy‐4‐nitroaniline and appropriate salicylaldehydes. All the compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, IR and mass spectroscopy. Compound IIIa was also characterized by single crystal X‐ray diffraction and shows a C2NO2 coordination geometry nearly half‐way between a trigonal bipyramidal and square pyramidal arrangement. In the solid state, π? π interactions exist between the aniline fragments of neighbouring molecules. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

An α‐diimine Pd(II) complex containing chiral sec‐phenethyl groups, {bis[N,N′‐(4‐methyl‐2‐sec‐phenethylphenyl)imino]‐2,3‐butadiene}dichloropalladium (rac‐ C1 ), was synthesized and characterized. rac‐ C1 was applied as an efficient catalyst for the Suzuki–Miyaura cross‐coupling reaction between various aniline halides and arylboronic acid in PEG‐400–H2O at room temperature. Among a series of aniline halides, rac‐ C1 did not catalyze the cross‐coupling of aniline chlorides and fluorides but efficiently catalyzed the cross‐coupling of aniline bromides and iodides with phenylboronic acid. The catalytic activity reduced slightly with increasing steric hindrance of the aniline bromides. The complexes {bis[N,N′‐(4‐fluoro‐2,6‐diphenylphenyl)imino]‐2,3‐butadiene}dichloropalladium and {bis[N,N′‐(4‐fluoro‐2,6‐diphenylphenyl)imino]acenaphthene}dichloropalladium were also found to be efficient catalysts for the reaction. The reactions of a series of anilines with phenyl 2,4‐dinitrophenyl ( 1 ), 4‐nitrophenyl 2,4‐dinitrophenyl ( 2 ), and bis(2,4‐dinitrophenyl) ( 3 ) carbonates are subjected to a kinetic investigation in 44 wt% ethanol–water, at 25.0 ± 0.1°C and an ionic strength of 0.2 M. Under amine excess pseudo‐first‐order rate coefficients (kobs) are obtained. Plots of kobs against free amine concentration at constant pH are linear, with slopes kN. The Brønsted plots (log kN vs. anilinium pKa) for the anilinolysis of 1 – 3 are linear, with slope (β) values of 0.52, 0.61, and 0.63, respectively. The values of these slopes and other considerations suggest that these reactions are ruled by a concerted mechanism. For these reactions, the kN values follow the reactivity sequence: 3 > 2 > 1 . Namely, the reactivity increases as the number of nitro groups attached to the nonleaving group increases. Comparison of the reactions of this work with the stepwise pyridinolysis of carbonates 1 – 3 indicates that the zwitterionic tetrahedral intermediate (T±) formed in the pyridinolysis reactions is destabilized by the change of its pyridino moiety by an isobasic anilino group. This is attributed to the superior leaving ability from the T± intermediate of anilines, relative to isobasic pyridines, which destabilize kinetically this intermediate. The kN values for the anilinolysis of carbonates 1 – 3 are similar to those found in the reactions of these carbonates with secondary alicyclic amines. With the kinetic data for the anilinolysis of the title substrates and 4‐methylphenyl and 4‐chlorophenyl 2,4‐dinitrophenyl carbonates, a multiparametric equation is derived for log kN as a function of the pKa of the conjugate acids of anilines and nonleaving groups. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The kinetics of reactions of OH radical with n‐heptane and n‐hexane over a temperature range of 240–340K has been investigated using the relative rate combined with discharge flow/mass spectrometry (RR/DF/MS) technique. The rate constant for the reaction of OH radical with n‐heptane was measured with both n‐octane and n‐nonane as references. At 298K, these rate constants were determined to be k1, octane = (6.68 ± 0.48) × 10?12 cm3 molecule?1 s?1 and k1, nonane = (6.64 ± 1.36) × 10?12 cm3 molecule?1 s?1, respectively, which are in very good agreement with the literature values. The rate constant for reaction of n‐hexane with the OH radical was determined to be k2 = (4.95 ± 0.40) × 10?12 cm3 molecule?1 s?1 at 298K using n‐heptane as a reference. The Arrhenius expression for these chemical reactions have been determined to be k1, octane = (2.25 ± 0.21) × 10?11 exp[(?293 ± 37)/T] and k2 = (2.43 ± 0.52) × 10?11 exp[(?481.2 ± 60)/T], respectively. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Rate constants for the reactions of Cl atoms with two cyclic dienes, 1,4‐cyclohexadiene and 1,5‐cyclooctadiene, have been determined, at 298 K and 800 Torr of N2, using the relative rate method, with n‐hexane and 1‐butene as reference molecules. The concentrations of the organics are followed by gas chromatographic analysis. The ratios of the rate constants of reactions of Cl atoms with 1,4‐cyclohexadiene and 1,5‐cyclooctadiene to that with n‐hexane are measured to be 1.29 ± 0.06 and 2.19 ± 0.32, respectively. The corresponding ratios with respect to 1‐butene are 1.50 ± 0.16 and 2.36 ± 0.38. The absolute values of the rate constants of the reaction of Cl atom with n‐hexane and 1‐butene are considered as (3.15 ± 0.40) × 10?10 and (3.21 ± 0.40) × 10? 10 cm3 molecule?1s?1, respectively. With these, the calculated values are k(Cl + 1,4‐cyclohexadiene) = (4.06 ± 0.55) × 10?10 and k(Cl + 1,5‐cyclooctadiene) = (6.90 ± 1.33) × 10?10 cm3 molecule?1 s?1 with respect to n‐hexane. The rate constants determined with respect to 1‐butene are marginally higher, k(Cl + 1,4‐cyclohexadiene) = (4.82 ± 0.80) × 10? 10 and k(Cl + 1,5‐cyclooctadiene) = (7.58 ± 1.55) × 10? 10 cm3 molecule?1 s?1. The experiments for each molecule were repeated three to five times, and the slopes and the rate constants given above are the average values of these measurements, with 2σ as the quoted error, including the error in the reference rate constant. The relative rate ratios of 1,4‐cyclohexadiene with both the reference molecules are found to be higher in the presence of oxygen, and a marginal increase is observed in the case of 1,5‐cyclooctadiene. Benzene is identified as one major product in the case of 1,4‐cyclohexadiene. Considering that the cyclohexadienyl radical, a product of the hydrogen abstraction reaction, is quantitatively converted to benzene in the presence of oxygen, the fraction of Cl atoms that reacts by abstraction is estimated to be 0.30 ± 0.04. The atmospheric implications of the results are discussed. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Chem Kinet 43: 431–440, 2011  相似文献

A novel chromogenic method to measure the peroxidase activity using para‐phenylenediamine dihydrochloride (=benzene‐1,4‐diamine hydrochloride; PPDD) and N‐(1‐naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride (=N‐(2‐aminoethyl)naphthalen‐1‐amine; NEDA) is presented. The PPDD entraps the free radical and gets oxidized to electrophilic diimine, which couples with NEDA to give an intense red‐colored chromogenic species with maximum absorbance at 490 nm. This assay was adopted for the quantification of H2O2 between 20 and 160 μM . Catalytic efficiency and catalytic power of the commercial peroxidase were found to be 4.47×104 M ?1 min?1 and 3.38×10?4 min?1, respectively. The catalytic constant (kcat) and specificity constant (kcat/Km) at saturated concentration of the co‐substrates were 0.0245×103 min?1 and 0.0445 μM ?1 min?1, respectively. The chromogenic coupling reaction has a minimum interference from the reducing substances such as ascorbic acid, L ‐cystein, citric acid, and oxalic acid. The method being simple, rapid, precise, and sensitive, its applicability has been tested in the crude vegetable extracts that showed peroxidase activity.  相似文献

A series of Zn (II), Pd (II) and Cd (II) complexes, [(L) n MX 2 ] m (L = L‐a–L‐c; M = Zn, Pd; X = Cl; M = Cd; X = Br; n, m = 1 or 2), containing 4‐methoxy‐N‐(pyridin‐2‐ylmethylene) aniline ( L‐a ), 4‐methoxy‐N‐(pyridin‐2‐ylmethyl) aniline ( L‐b ) and 4‐methoxy‐N‐methyl‐N‐(pyridin‐2‐ylmethyl) aniline ( L‐c ) have been synthesized and characterized. The X‐ray crystal structures of Pd (II) complexes [L 1 PdCl 2 ] (L = L‐b and L‐c) revealed distorted square planar geometries obtained via coordinative interaction of the nitrogen atoms of pyridine and amine moieties and two chloro ligands. The geometry around Zn (II) center in [(L‐a)ZnCl 2 ] and [(L‐c)ZnCl 2 ] can be best described as distorted tetrahedral, whereas [(L‐b) 2 ZnCl 2 ] and [(L‐b) 2 CdBr 2 ] achieved 6‐coordinated octahedral geometries around Zn and Cd centers through 2‐equivalent ligands, respectively. In addition, a dimeric [(L‐c)Cd(μ ‐ Br)Br] 2 complex exhibited typical 5‐coordinated trigonal bipyramidal geometry around Cd center. The polymerization of methyl methacrylate in the presence of modified methylaluminoxane was evaluated by all the synthesized complexes at 60°C. Among these complexes, [(L‐b)PdCl 2 ] showed the highest catalytic activity [3.80 × 104 g poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/mol Pd hr?1], yielding high molecular weight (9.12 × 105 g mol?1) PMMA. Syndio‐enriched PMMA (characterized using 1H‐NMR spectroscopy) of about 0.68 was obtained with Tg in the range 120–128°C. Unlike imine and amine moieties, the introduction of N‐methyl moiety has an adverse effect on the catalytic activity, but the syndiotacticity remained unaffected.  相似文献

The effect of dicationic gemini surfactants H33C16(CH3)2N+‐(CH2)s‐N+(CH3)2 C16H33, 2Br? (s= 4, 5, 6) on the reaction of a dipeptide glycyl–tyrosine (Gly–Tyr) with ninhydrin has been studied spectrophotometrically at 70°C and pH 5.0. The reaction follows first‐ and fractional‐order kinetics, respectively, in [Gly–Tyr] and [ninhydrin]. The gemini surfactant micellar media are comparatively more effective than their single chain–single head counterpart cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) micelles. Whereas typical rate constant (kΨ) increase and leveling‐off regions, just like CTAB, are observed with geminis, the latter produces a third region of increasing kΨ at higher concentrations. This subsequent increase is ascribed to the change in the micellar morphology of the geminis. The pseudophase model of micelles was used to quantitatively analyze the kΨ ? [gemini] data, wherein the micellar‐binding constants KS for [Gly–Tyr] and KN for ninhydrin were evaluated. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Chem Kinet 44: 800–809, 2012  相似文献

In the title compound, catena‐poly[[bis(aniline‐N)cadmium(II)]‐di‐μ‐thiocyanato‐S:N;N:S], [Cd(SCN)2(C6H7N)2], the CdII atom lies on an inversion centre and is in a distorted octahedral geometry. The coordination sphere contains two thiocyanate (SCN) S atoms, two isothiocyanate (NCS) N atoms and two aniline N atoms. The six‐coordinated Cd atoms run parallel to the b axis and are doubly bridged with neighbouring Cd atoms by SCN and NCS ligands. Thus, this complex has a one‐dimensional coordination polymeric chain structure in which the aniline ligand is in the trans conformation.  相似文献

A kinetic study on hydrolysis of N‐(2′‐hydroxyphenyl)phthalamic acid ( 1 ), N‐(2′‐methoxyphenyl)phthalamic acid ( 2 ), and N‐(2′‐methoxyphenyl)benzamide ( 3 ) under a highly alkaline medium gives second‐order rate constants, kOH, for the reactions of HO? with 1, 2 , and 3 as (4.73 ± 0.36) × 10?8 at 35°C, (2.42 ± 0.28) × 10?6 and (5.94 ± 0.23) × 10?5 M?1 s?1 at 65°C, respectively. Similar values of kOH for 3 , N‐methylbenzanilide, N‐methylbenzamide, and N,N‐dimethylbenzamide despite the difference between pKa values of aniline and ammonia of ~10 pK units are qualitatively explained. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, single electron transfer‐living radical polymerization (SET–LRP) of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) in the presence of 2‐mercaptoethylamine chain transfer agent (CTA) was carried out by Cu(0) generated in situ from the disproportionation of CuBr/2,2′‐bipyridine (2,2′‐bpy) in N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF) at 90 °C. Analysis of polymerization kinetics in the presence of CTA showed that the premature termination of growing polymer chains leads to retardation. The apparent rate constant of polymerization (k) decreased from 4.49 × 10?4 to 2.59 × 10?4 min?1 with increasing CTA concentration. The initiator efficiency (Ieff) and the chain transfer constant (Cs) were found to be 0.524 and 0.286, respectively. The molecular weights of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) [poly(NIPAM)] produced were significantly higher than the predicted values, and the polydispersities were less than 1.22. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A bimolecular rate constant,kDHO, of (29 ± 9) × 10?12 cm3 molecule?1 s?1 was measured using the relative rate technique for the reaction of the hydroxyl radical (OH) with 3,5‐dimethyl‐1‐hexyn‐3‐ol (DHO, HC?CC(OH)(CH3)CH2CH(CH3)2) at (297 ± 3) K and 1 atm total pressure. To more clearly define DHO's indoor environment degradation mechanism, the products of the DHO + OH reaction were also investigated. The positively identified DHO/OH reaction products were acetone ((CH3)2C?O), 3‐butyne‐2‐one (3B2O, HC?CC(?O)(CH3)), 2‐methyl‐propanal (2MP, H(O?)CCH(CH3)2), 4‐methyl‐2‐pentanone (MIBK, CH3C(?O)CH2CH(CH3)2), ethanedial (GLY, HC(?O)C(?O)H), 2‐oxopropanal (MGLY, CH3C(?O)C(?O)H), and 2,3‐butanedione (23BD, CH3C(?O)C(?O)CH3). The yields of 3B2O and MIBK from the DHO/OH reaction were (8.4 ± 0.3) and (26 ± 2)%, respectively. The use of derivatizing agents O‐(2,3,4,5,6‐pentalfluorobenzyl)hydroxylamine (PFBHA) and N,O‐bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide (BSTFA) clearly indicated that several other reaction products were formed. The elucidation of these other reaction products was facilitated by mass spectrometry of the derivatized reaction products coupled with plausible DHO/OH reaction mechanisms based on previously published volatile organic compound/OH gas‐phase reaction mechanisms. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The rate constant of malachite green (MG+) alkaline fading was measured in water–ethanol–2‐propanol ternary mixtures. This reaction was studied under pseudo‐first‐order conditions at 283–303 K. It was observed that the observed reaction rate constants, kobs, were increased in the presence of different weight percentages of ethanol and 2‐propanol. The fundamental rate constants of MG+ fading in these solutions were obtained by using the SESMORTAC model. In each series of experiments, the concentration of one alcohol was kept constant and the concentration of the second one was changed. It was observed that at the constant concentration of one alcohol and variable concentrations of the second one, with an increase in temperature, k2 values decrease according to the trend of hydroxide ion nucleophilic parameter values and k1 values increase. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
