Thin film flow of an Oldroyd 6‐constant fluid on a vertical moving belt is investigated analytically and numerically. The governing equations for the flow field are derived for a steady one‐dimensional flow. The effect of constant applied magnetic field is included and its influence on the flow field is studied. The nonlinear governing equations are solved analytically and the exact solution is obtained in an elegant way. Numerical solutions are also obtained using higher‐order Chebyshev spectral methods. The influence of various non‐Newtonian parameters, gravitational force and applied magnetic field is investigated. The results showing the effect of gravity, magnetic field and material constants α1 and α2 are presented. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The problem of magneto‐hydrodynamic fluid flow past a nonlinear stretching sheet in the presence of a transverse magnetic field is analyzed. The governing equations are transformed into a nonlinear ordinary differential equation that is solved using a novel spectral homotopy analysis method and the Matlab in‐built numerical solverttbvp4c. The new technique removes some known limitations of the homotopy analysis method and offers a more systematic way of selecting initial approximations and the optimal auxiliary parameter ?. A comparison with the numerical solution confirms the robustness, the computational efficiency, and the accuracy of the technique. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this article we have studied the peristaltic motion of an incompressible Williamson fluid with constant and radially varying magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) in an endoscope. Using the low Reynolds and long wavelength assumptions, the equations of Williamson fluid model in simplified form are solved using (i) the HAM method and (ii) the Shooting method. The comparisons of both solutions have been found a very good agreement. Graphical results have been presented for various emerging parameters. © British Crown Copyright 2010/MOD. The penalty finite element method for Navier–Stokes equations with nonlinear slip boundary conditions is investigated in this paper. Since this class of nonlinear slip boundary conditions include the subdifferential property, the weak variational formulation is a variational inequality problem of the second kind. Using the penalty finite element approximation, we obtain optimal error estimates between the exact solution and the finite element approximation solution. Finally, we show the numerical results which are in full agreement with the theoretical results. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this work, we studied the peristaltic flow of a Jeffrey‐six constant fluid in a uniform tube. The governing equations of the Jeffrey‐six constant fluid were simplified by using the assumptions of long wave length and low Reynolds number approximation. The simplified form of equations were solved using the perturbation, homotopy analysis and finite difference methods. The comparison of the three solutions are shown graphically. The variation of pressure rise and frictional forces with the different parameters were also examined numerically. Results are presented at the end of the article. The combined influence of heat and mass transfer has been explored in a study of peristaltic transport of magnetohydrodynamic Williamson fluid in a non‐uniform channel with flexible walls. The slip conditions are paid due attention and long wavelength and small Reynolds number assumptions are adopted in the problem formulation. The obtained results are valid for small Weissenberg number. A detailed study of involved key parameters in the obtained solutions is made by the sketched graphs. Rotary oscillations of several axi‐symmetric bodies in axi‐symmetric viscous flows with slip are investigated. A numerical method based on the Green's function technique is used wherein the relevant Helmholtz equation, as obtained from the unsteady Stokes equation, is converted into a surface integral equation. The technique is benchmarked against a known analytical solution, and accurate numerical results for local stress and torque on spheres and spheroids as function of the frequency parameter and the slip coefficients are obtained. It is found that in all cases, slip reduces stress and torque, and increasingly so with the increasing frequency parameter. The method discussed here can be potentially extended to the realistic case of an oscillating disk viscometer. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we present LDG methods for systems with (p,δ)‐structure. The unknown gradient and the nonlinear diffusivity function are introduced as auxiliary variables and the original (p,δ) system is decomposed into a first‐order system. Every equation of the produced first‐order system is discretized in the discontinuous Galerkin framework, where two different nonlinear viscous numerical fluxes are implemented. An a priori bound for a simplified problem is derived. The ODE system resulting from the LDG discretization is solved by diagonal implicit Runge–Kutta methods. The nonlinear system of algebraic equations with unknowns the intermediate solutions of the Runge–Kutta cycle is solved using Newton and Picard iterative methodology. The performance of the two nonlinear solvers is compared with simple test problems. Numerical tests concerning problems with exact solutions are performed in order to validate the theoretical spatial accuracy of the proposed method. Further, more realistic numerical examples are solved in domains with non‐smooth boundary to test the efficiency of the method. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In the present article, we have studied the effects of inclined magnetic field on the peristaltic flow of Jeffrey fluid through the gap between two coaxial inclined tubes. The inner tube is rigid, whereas the outer tube has sinusoidal wave traveling down its wall. The governing equations are simplified using long wave length and low Reynolds number approximations. Exact and numerical solutions have been derived for velocity profile. The expressions for pressure rise and friction force are calculated using numerical integration. Graphical results and trapping phenomenon is presented at the end of the article to see the physical behavior of different parameters. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Taking Hall and ion‐slip current into account, the unsteady magnetohydrodynamic heat‐generating free convective flow of a partially ionized gas past an infinite vertical plate in a rotating frame of reference is investigated theoretically. A computer program using finite elements is employed to solve the coupled non‐linear differential equations for velocity and temperature fields. The effects of Hall and ion‐slip currents as well as the other parameters entering into the problem are discussed extensively and shown graphically. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
