In this work we present an adaptive strategy (based on an a posteriori error estimator) for a stabilized finite element method for the Stokes problem, with and without a reaction term. The hierarchical type estimator is based on the solution of local problems posed on appropriate finite dimensional spaces of bubble-like functions. An equivalence result between the norm of the finite element error and the estimator is given, where the dependence of the constants on the physics of the problem is explicited. Several numerical results confirming both the theoretical results and the good performance of the estimator are given.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a posteriori error estimator for the nonconforming finite element approximation, including using Crouzeix–Raviart element and extended Crouzeix–Raviart element, of the Stokes eigenvalue problem. With the technique of Helmholtz decomposition, we first give out a posteriori error estimator and prove it as the global upper bound and local lower bound of the approximation error. Then, by deleting a jump term in the indicator, another simpler but equivalent indicator is obtained. Some numerical experiments are provided to verify our analysis.  相似文献

An adaptive refinement procedure consisting of a localized error estimator and a physically based approach to mesh refinement is developed for the finite difference method. The error estimator is a variation of a successful finite element error estimator. The errors are estimated by computing an error energy norm in terms of discontinuous and continuous stress fields formed from the finite difference results for plane stress problems. The error measure identifies regions of high error which are subsequently refined to improve the result. The local refinement procedure utilizes a recently developed approach for developing finite difference templates to produce a graduated mesh. The adaptive refinement procedure is demonstrated with a problem that contains a well-defined singularity. The results are compared to finite element and uniformly refined finite difference results.  相似文献

In this paper we present a posteriori error estimator in a suitable norm of mixed finite element solution for two-dimensional stationary Stokes problem. The estimator is optimal in the sense that, up to multiplicative constant, the upper and lower bounds of the error are the same. The constants are independent of the mesh and the true solution of the problem.  相似文献

In this paper, we study adaptive finite element discretization schemes for an optimal control problem governed by elliptic PDE with an integral constraint for the state. We derive the equivalent a posteriori error estimator for the finite element approximation, which particularly suits adaptive multi-meshes to capture different singularities of the control and the state. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of a posteriori error estimator and to confirm the theoretical results.  相似文献

The main aim of this paper is to give an anisotropic posteriori error estimator. We firstly study the convergence of bilinear finite element for the second order problem under anisotropic meshes.By using some novel approaches and techniques, the optimal error estimates and some superconvergence results are obtained without the regularity assumption and quasi-uniform assumption requirements on the meshes. Then, based on these results, we give an anisotropic posteriori error estimate for the second problem.  相似文献

We introduce an adaptive finite element method for computing electromagnetic guided waves in a closed, inhomogeneous, pillared three-dimensional waveguide at a given frequency based on the inverse iteration method. The problem is formulated as a generalized eigenvalue problems. By modifying the exact inverse iteration algorithm for the eigenvalue problem, we design a new adaptive inverse iteration finite element algorithm. Adaptive finite element methods based on a posteriori error estimate are known to be successful in resolving singularities of eigenfunctions which deteriorate the finite element convergence. We construct a posteriori error estimator for the electromagnetic guided waves problem. Numerical results are reported to illustrate the quasi-optimal performance of our adaptive inverse iteration finite element method.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a residual based reliable and efficient error estimator for the new dual mixed finite element method of the elasticity problem in a polygonal domain, introduced by M. Farhloul and M. Fortin. With the help of a specific generalized Helmholtz decomposition of the error on the strain tensor and the classical decomposition of the error on the gradient of the displacements, we show that our global error estimator is reliable. Efficiency of our estimator follows by using classical inverse estimates. The lower and upper error bounds obtained are uniform with respect to the Lamé coefficient λ, in particular avoiding locking phenomena. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The a posteriori error analysis of conforming finite element discretisations of the biharmonic problem for plates is well established, but nonconforming discretisations are more easy to implement in practice. The a posteriori error analysis for the Morley plate element appears very particular because two edge contributions from an integration by parts vanish simultaneously. This crucial property is lacking for popular rectangular nonconforming finite element schemes like the nonconforming rectangular Morley finite element, the incomplete biquadratic finite element, and the Adini finite element. This paper introduces a novel methodology and utilises some conforming discrete space on macro elements to prove reliability and efficiency of an explicit residual-based a posteriori error estimator. An application to the Morley triangular finite element shows the surprising result that all averaging techniques yield reliable error bounds. Numerical experiments confirm the reliability and efficiency for the established a posteriori error control on uniform and graded tensor-product meshes.  相似文献

We consider a singularly perturbed reaction–diffusion problem and derive and rigorously analyse an a posteriori residual error estimator that can be applied to anisotropic finite element meshes. The quotient of the upper and lower error bounds is the so-called matching function which depends on the anisotropy (of the mesh and the solution) but not on the small perturbation parameter. This matching function measures how well the anisotropic finite element mesh corresponds to the anisotropic problem. Provided this correspondence is sufficiently good, the matching function is O(1). Hence one obtains tight error bounds, i.e. the error estimator is reliable and efficient as well as robust with respect to the small perturbation parameter. A numerical example supports the anisotropic error analysis.  相似文献

In this paper, we analyze a residual-type a posteriori error estimator of the finite volume element method for a quasi-linear elliptic problem of nonmonotone type and derive computable upper and lower bounds on the error in the H 1-norm. Numerical experiments are provided to illustrate the performance of the proposed estimator.  相似文献

A singularly perturbed convection–diffusion problem in two and three space dimensions is discretized using the streamline upwind Petrov Galerkin (SUPG) variant of the finite element method. The dominant convection frequently gives rise to solutions with layers; hence anisotropic finite elements can be applied advantageously. The main focus is on a posteriori energy norm error estimation that is robust in the perturbation parameter and with respect to the mesh anisotropy. A residual error estimator and a local problem error estimator are proposed and investigated. The analysis reveals that the upper error bound depends on the alignment of the anisotropies of the mesh and of the solution. Hence reliable error estimation is possible for suitable anisotropic meshes. The lower error bound depends on the problem data via a local mesh Peclet number. Thus efficient error estimation is achieved for small mesh Peclet numbers. Altogether, error estimation approaches for isotropic meshes are successfully extended to anisotropic elements. Several numerical experiments support the analysis. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop an a posteriori error analysis of a mixed finite element method for a fluid–solid interaction problem posed in the plane. The media are governed by the acoustic and elastodynamic equations in time-harmonic regime, respectively, and the transmission conditions are given by the equilibrium of forces and the equality of the normal displacements of the solid and the fluid. The coupling of primal and dual-mixed finite element methods is applied to compute both the pressure of the scattered wave in the linearized fluid and the elastic vibrations that take place in the elastic body. The finite element subspaces consider continuous piecewise linear elements for the pressure and a Lagrange multiplier defined on the interface, and PEERS for the stress and rotation in the solid domain. We derive a reliable and efficient residual-based a posteriori error estimator for this coupled problem. Suitable auxiliary problems, the continuous inf-sup conditions satisfied by the bilinear forms involved, a discrete Helmholtz decomposition, and the local approximation properties of the Clément interpolant and Raviart–Thomas operator are the main tools for proving the reliability of the estimator. Then, Helmholtz decomposition, inverse inequalities, and the localization technique based on triangle-bubble and edge-bubble functions are employed to show the efficiency. Finally, some numerical results confirming the reliability and efficiency of the estimator are reported.  相似文献

In this paper, HFEM is proposed to investigate the circular arch problem. Optimal error estimates are derived, some superconvergence results are established, and an asymptotic exactness posteriori error estimator is presented. In contrast with the classical displacement variational method, the optimal convergence rate for displacement is uniform to the small parameter. In contrast with classical mixed finite element methods, our results are free of the strict restriction on h(the mesh size) which is preserved by all the previous papers. Furtheremore we introduce an asymptotic exactness posteriori error estimator based on a global superconvergence result which is discovered in this kind of problem for the first time.  相似文献

We derive a reliable a posteriori error estimator for a state-constrained elliptic optimal control problem taking into account both regularisation and discretisation. The estimator is applicable to finite element discretisations of the problem with both discretised and non-discretised control. The performance of our estimator is illustrated by several numerical examples for which we also introduce an adaptation strategy for the regularisation parameter.  相似文献

Based on a posteriori error estimator with hierarchical bases, an adaptive weak Galerkin finite element method (WGFEM) is proposed for the elliptic problem with mixed boundary conditions. For the posteriori error estimator, we are only required to solve a linear algebraic system with diagonal entries corresponding to the degree of freedoms, which significantly reduces the computational cost. The upper and lower bounds of the error estimator are shown to addresses the reliability and efficiency of the adaptive approach. Numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.  相似文献

In this paper, a type of accurate a posteriori error estimator is proposed for the Steklov eigenvalue problem based on the complementary approach, which provides an asymptotic exact estimate for the approximate eigenpair. Besides, we design a type of cascadic adaptive finite element method for the Steklov eigenvalue problem based on the proposed a posteriori error estimator. In this new cascadic adaptive scheme, instead of solving the Steklov eigenvalue problem in each adaptive space directly, we only need to do some smoothing steps for linearized boundary value problems on a series of adaptive spaces and solve some Steklov eigenvalue problems on a low dimensional space. Furthermore, the proposed a posteriori error estimator provides the way to refine mesh and control the number of smoothing steps for the cascadic adaptive method. Some numerical examples are presented to validate the efficiency of the algorithm in this paper.
