Let p be a real number greater than one. In this paper we study the vanishing and nonvanishing of the first L p -cohomology space of some groups that have one end. We also make a connection between the first L p -cohomolgy space and the Floyd boundary of the Cayley graph of a group. We apply the result about Floyd boundaries to show that there exists a real number p such that the first L p -cohomology space of a nonelementary hyperbolic group does not vanish. For a finite group G, let E(G) denote the near-ring of functions generated by the semigroup, End(G), of endomorphisms of G. We characterize when E(G) is maximal as a subnear-ring of M 0(G). A group G is an E-group if E(G) is a ring. We give a new characterization of finite E-groups and investigate the problem of determining, for finite E-groups, when E(G) is maximal as a ring in M0(G). This work treats Lp regularity theory for weak solutions of parabolic equations in divergence form with discontinuous coefficients on nonsmooth domains. We essentially obtain an optimal condition on the coefficients under which the global W1,p regularity theory holds. This work was supported by SNU foundation in 2005.  相似文献

We confirm a twenty year old conjecture by showing that a nonzero prime ideal P in the algebra H of bounded analytic functions in the open unit disk is countably generated if and only if it is either a principal ideal generated by the polynomial zz0, |z0|<1, or if P is generated by the n-th roots of an atomic inner function. We consider some extensions of well-boundedness and Cm-scalarity by using fractional calculus, and prove some theorems accordingly. These results are applied to the usual Laplacian on Rn and sub-Laplacians on nilpotent Lie groups. Let K be a compact subset in the complex plane and let A(K) be the uniform closure of the functions continuous on K and analytic on . Let μ be a positive finite measure with its support contained in K. For 1 ≤ q < ∞, let Aq(K, μ) denote the closure of A(K) in Lq(μ). The aim of this work is to study the structure of the space Aq(K, μ). We seek a necessary and sufficient condition on K so that a Thomson-type structure theorem for Aq(K, μ) can be established. Our theorem deduces J. Thomson’s structure theorem for Pq(μ), the closure of polynomials in Lq(μ), as the special case when K is a closed disk containing the support of μ.  相似文献

We construct an algebra of left-invariant pseudodifferential operators on SU(2). We require only that the symbols be homogeneous and C2. For Fourier-bandlimited symbols, we derive the expected formulae for composition and commutators and construct an orthonormal basis of common approximate eigenvectors that could be used to study spectral theory. Some remarks on applications to matrices of operators are made.  相似文献

A new approximation technique based on L 1-minimization is introduced. It is proven that the approximate solution converges to the viscosity solution in the case of one-dimensional stationary Hamilton–Jacobi equation with convex Hamiltonian. In this paper we introduce the notion of s-extremal lattice for unimodular Type I lattices. We give a bound on the existence of certain such s-extremal lattices: an s-extremal lattice of dimension n and minimal even norm μ must satisfy n < 12μ. This result implies that such lattices are also extremal and that there are a finite number of them. We also give an equivalent bound for s-extremal self-dual codes: an s-extremal code with doubly-even minimum distance d and length n must satisfy n < 6d, moreover such codes are extremal. We propose a new method for showing C 1, α regularity for solutions of the infinity Laplacian equation and provide full details of the proof in two dimensions. Let G be a locally compact group. For 1 < p < ∞, it is well-known that f * g exists and belongs to Lp(G) for all f, g Lp (G) if and only if G is compact. In this paper, we present applications of discrete maximal L p regularity for finite element operators. More precisely, we show error estimates of order h 2 for linear and certain semilinear problems in various L p (Ω)-norms. Discrete maximal regularity allows us to prove error estimates in a very easy and efficient way. Moreover, we also develop interpolation theory for (fractional powers of) finite element operators and extend the results on discrete maximal L p regularity formerly proved by the author. We show that in the dual of Weak L1 the subspace of all rearrangement invariant continuous linear functionals is lattice isometric to a space L1(μ) and is the linear hull of the maximal elements of the dual unit ball. In [6], ?evik defined necessary and sufficient conditions for the presentation of a central extension of a cyclic group by an ordinary group to be p-Cockcroft, where p is a prime or 0. In this paper, as a next step of this above result, we will define the p-Cockcroft property for the presentation of a central extension of an abelian group by any group. In this paper we show that the Taylor coefficients of a Hecke eigenform at a CM-point, suitably modified, form a sequence of algebraic numbers that satisfy the Kubota–Leopoldt generalization of the Kummer congruences for primes that split in the imaginary quadratic field associated with a CM-point. More generally, we show that these numbers are moments of a certain p-adic measure. In addition, we write down explicitly the “Euler factor” at p in terms of the p th Hecke eigenvalue of the modular form in question and certain data of the CM-point. P. We prove weighted L p -inequalities for multi-parameter Riesz type potentials, strong fractional maximal operators and their dyadic counterparts. We introduce the concept of Lp-maximal regularity for second order Cauchy problems. We prove Lp-maximal regularity for an abstract model problem and we apply the abstract results to prove existence, uniqueness and regularity of solutions for nonlinear wave equations. We formulate a nonrecursive combinatorial rule for the expansion of the stable Grothendieck polynomials of Fomin and Kirillov (Proc Formal Power Series Alg Comb, 1994) in the basis of stable Grothendieck polynomials for partitions. This gives a common generalization, as well as new proofs of the rule of Fomin and Greene (Discret Math 193:565–596, 1998) for the expansion of the stable Schubert polynomials into Schur polynomials, and the K-theoretic Grassmannian Littlewood–Richardson rule of Buch (Acta Math 189(1):37–78, 2002). The proof is based on a generalization of the Robinson–Schensted and Edelman–Greene insertion algorithms. Our results are applied to prove a number of new formulas and properties for K-theoretic quiver polynomials, and the Grothendieck polynomials of Lascoux and Schützenberger (C R Acad Sci Paris Ser I Math 294(13):447–450, 1982). In particular, we provide the first K-theoretic analogue of the factor sequence formula of Buch and Fulton (Invent Math 135(3):665–687, 1999) for the cohomological quiver polynomials.  相似文献
