In this paper we study the initial value problem for the scalar semilinear strictly hyperbolic equation in multidimensional space with data strongly singular at one point. Under the assumption of the initial data being conormal with respect to one point and bounded or regular with a certain low degree, the existence of the solution to this problem is obtained; meanwhile, it is proved that the singularity of the solution will spread on the forward characteristic cone of the hyperbolic operator issuing from this point, and the solution is bounded and conormal with respect to this cone.  相似文献

We consider the Cauchy problem for a parabolic partial differential equation with a power nonlinearity. Our concern in this paper is the existence of a singular solution with smooth initial data. By using the Haraux-Weissler equation, it is shown that there exist singular forward self-similar solutions. Using this result, we also obtain a sufficient condition for the singular solution with general initial data including smooth initial data.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a semilinear Petrovsky equation with damping and source terms. It is proved that the solution blows up in finite time if the positive initial energy satisfies a suitable condition. Moreover for the linear damping case, we show that the solution blows up in finite time even for vanishing initial energy. This is an important breakthrough, since it is only well known that the solution blows up in finite time if the initial energy is negative from all the previous literature.  相似文献

We consider an Allen-Cahn type equation of the form utu+ε−2fε(x,t,u), where ε is a small parameter and fε(x,t,u)=f(u)−εgε(x,t,u) a bistable nonlinearity associated with a double-well potential whose well-depths can be slightly unbalanced. Given a rather general initial data u0 that is independent of ε, we perform a rigorous analysis of both the generation and the motion of interface. More precisely we show that the solution develops a steep transition layer within the time scale of order ε2|lnε|, and that the layer obeys the law of motion that coincides with the formal asymptotic limit within an error margin of order ε. This is an optimal estimate that has not been known before for solutions with general initial data, even in the case where gε≡0.Next we consider systems of reaction-diffusion equations of the form

This paper concerns semilinear elliptic equations whose nonlinear term has the formW(x)f(u) whereW changes sign. We study the existence of positive solutions and their multiplicity. The important role played by the negative part ofW is contained in a condition which is shown to be necessary for homogeneousf. More general existence questions are also discussed.Supported in part by NSF grant DMS9003149.  相似文献

Bandle et al. [1] obtained a quite interesting result about a semilinear heat equation that the Fujita exponent relative to the whole hyperbolic space is just the same as that relative to bounded domain in Euclidean space, and, in addition, the properties of solutions are different in the critical exponent case. Our purpose is to answer an open problem proposed by Bandle et al. for the critical exponent case, and it, together with the one obtained by them, shows that the critical exponent case does belong to the non-blow-up case, which is completely different from the case in Euclidean space.  相似文献

An iterative domain decomposition method is developed to solve a singular perturbation problem. The problem consists of a convection-diffusion equation with a discontinuous (piecewise-constant) diffusion coefficient, and the problem domain is decomposed into two subdomains, on each of which the coefficient is constant. After showing that the boundary value problem is well posed, we indicate a specific numerical implementation of the iterative technique that combines the finite element method on one subdomain with the method of matched asymptotic expansions on the other subdomain. This procedure extends work by Carlenzoli and Quarteroni, which was originally intended for a boundary layer problem with an outer region and an inner region. Our extension carries over to a problem where the domain consists of the outer and inner boundary layer regions plus a region in which the diffusion coefficient is constant and significant in magnitude. An unexpected benefit of our new implementation is its efficiency, which is due to the fact that at each iteration the problem needs to be solved explicitly only on one subdomain. It is only when the final approximation on the entire domain is desired that the matched asymptotic expansions approximation need be computed on the second subdomain. Two-dimensional convergence results and numerical results illustrating the method for a two-dimensional test problem are given.Received: February 12, 2004  相似文献

In this paper, we study a quasilinear hyperbolic equation with strong damping. Firstly, by use of the successive approximation method and a series of classical estimates, we prove the local existence and uniqueness of a weak solution. Secondly, via some inequalities, the potential method and the concave method, we derive the asymptotic and blow-up behavior of the weak solution with different conditions.  相似文献

Presented here is a study of a viscoelastic wave equation with supercritical source and damping terms. We employ the theory of monotone operators and nonlinear semigroups, combined with energy methods to establish the existence of a unique local weak solution. In addition, it is shown that the solution depends continuously on the initial data and is global provided the damping dominates the source in an appropriate sense.  相似文献

We consider the initial–boundary value problem of a damped wave equation with singular nonlinearity, which describes an electrostatic micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) device. The results of the pull-in voltage λ?λ? being the critical threshold for global existence and quenching are obtained: if the applied voltage λ<λ?λ<λ?, then the equation admits a unique global small solution that exponentially converges to the minimal steady state, while large solution may quench in finite time; if λ>λ?λ>λ?, then any solution quenches in finite time. Finally, in the sense of the viscosity dominated limit, the asymptotic relation of solutions between the hyperbolic equation and the parabolic one is investigated. Also the related error estimates in arbitrary order are derived.  相似文献

We consider a hyperbolic-parabolic singular perturbation problem for a quasilinear equation of Kirchhoff type, and obtain parameter-dependent time decay estimates of the difference between the solutions of a quasilinear dissipative hyperbolic equation of Kirchhoff type and the corresponding quasilinear parabolic equation. For this purpose we show time decay estimates for hyperbolic-parabolic singular perturbation problem for linear equations with a time-dependent coefficient.  相似文献
