A linear coloring is a proper coloring such that each pair of color classes induces a union of disjoint paths. We study the linear list chromatic number, denoted , of sparse graphs. The maximum average degree of a graph G, denoted mad(G), is the maximum of the average degrees of all subgraphs of G. It is clear that any graph G with maximum degree Δ(G) satisfies . In this paper, we prove the following results: (1) if and Δ(G)≥3, then , and we give an infinite family of examples to show that this result is best possible; (2) if and Δ(G)≥9, then , and we give an infinite family of examples to show that the bound on cannot be increased in general; (3) if G is planar and has girth at least 5, then .  相似文献

We give a parallel algorithm for computing all row minima in a totally monotonen × nmatrix which is simpler and more work efficient than previous polylog-time algorithms. It runs inO(lg n lg lg n) time doingwork on aCRCW PRAM, inO(lg n(lg lg n)2) time doingwork on aCREW PRAM, and intime doingwork on anEREW PRAM. Since finding the row minima of a totally monotone matrix has been shown to be fundamental in the efficient solution of a host of geometric and combinatorial problems, our algorithm leads directly to improved parallel solutions of many algorithms in terms of their work efficiency.  相似文献

Results on first order Ext groups for Hilbert modules over the disk algebra are used to study certain backward shift invariant operator ranges, namely de Branges–Rovnyak spaces and a more general class called (W; B) spaces. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the groups Ext1A()(, (W; B)) to vanish whereis thedualof the vector-valued Hardy module, H2. One condition involves an extension problem for the Hankel operator with symbolB,ΓB, but viewed as a module map from H2into (W; B). The group Ext1A()(, (W; B))=(0) precisely whenΓBextends to a module map from L2into (W; B) and this in turn is equivalent to the injectivity of (W; B) in the category of contractive HilbertA()-modules. This result applied to the de Branges–Rovnyak spaces yields a connection between the extension problem for the HankelΓB and the operator corona problem.  相似文献

Stute and Wang (1994) considered the problem of estimating the integral Sθ = ∫ θ dF, based on a possibly censored sample from a distribution F, where θ is an F-integrable function. They proposed a Kaplan-Meier integral to approximate Sθ and derived an explicit formula for the delete-1 jackknife estimate . differs from only when the largest observation, X(n), is not censored (δ(n) = 1 and next-to-the-largest observation, X(n-1), is censored (δ(n-1) = 0). In this note, it will pointed out that when X(n) is censored is based on a defective distribution, and therefore can badly underestimate . We derive an explicit formula for the delete-2 jackknife estimate . However, on comparing the expressions of and , their difference is negligible. To improve the performance of and , we propose a modified estimator according to Efron (1980). Simulation results demonstrate that is much less biased than and and .  相似文献

Grooming uniform all-to-all traffic in optical ring networks with grooming ratio C requires the determination of graph decompositions of the complete graph into subgraphs each having at most C edges. The drop cost of such a grooming is the total number of vertices of nonzero degree in these subgraphs, and the grooming is optimal when the drop cost is minimum. The minimum drop cost is determined for grooming ratio 9. Previously this bound was shown to be met when with two exceptions and eleven additional possible exceptions for n, and also when with one exception and one possible exception for n. In this paper it is shown that the bound is met for all with four exceptions for n∈{8,11,14,17} and one possible exception for n=20. Using this result, it is further shown that when and n is sufficiently large, the bound is also met.  相似文献

Using this Riemannian structure, we define and construct a “heat kernel”νT(g0, ·) associated to the Laplace–Beltrami operator on (G). HereT>0,g0∈(G), andνT(g0,·) is a certain probability measure on (G). For fixedg0∈(G) andT>0, we use the measureνT(g0,·) and the Riemannian structure on (G) to construct a “classical” pre-Dirichlet form. Given two ordered trees and , the tree inclusion problem is to determine whether it is possible to obtain from by deleting nodes. Recently, this problem has been recognized as an important primitive in query processing for structured text databases. In this paper we present anO(|leaves()| ||) time andO(|leaves()|min(depth(), |leaves()|)) space algorithm for ordered tree inclusion, by means of a sophisticated bottom-up-matching strategy. The Möbius algebra of a poset was introduced by Solomon and also studied by Greene in the special case of lattices. Let denote a geometric lattice. Our key idea is to consider all the characteristic polynomials of upper intervals in as components of one object, which is multiplicative. Now, by simple algebraic means we obtain new identities involving the characteristic polynomial and the Tutte polynomial of a geometric lattice.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the eigenvalue problem consisting of the equation where and λR, together with the multi-point boundary conditions where m±?1 are integers, and, for i=1,…,m±, , , with , . We show that if the coefficients are sufficiently small (depending on r), then the spectral properties of this problem are similar to those of the usual separated problem, but if the coefficients are not sufficiently small, then these standard spectral properties need not hold. The spectral properties of such multi-point problems have been obtained before for the constant coefficient case (r≡1), but the variable coefficient case has not been considered previously (apart from the existence of ‘principal’ eigenvalues).Some nonlinear multi-point problems are also considered. We obtain a (partial) Rabinowitz-type result on global bifurcation from the eigenvalues, and various nonresonance conditions for the existence of general solutions and also of nodal solutions—these results rely on the spectral properties of the linear problem.  相似文献

We consider the fully nonlinear integral systems involving Wolff potentials:(1) whereThis system includes many known systems as special cases, in particular, when and γ=2, system (1) reduces to(2) The solutions (u,v) of (2) are critical points of the functional associated with the well-known Hardy–Littlewood–Sobolev inequality. We can show that (2) is equivalent to a system of semi-linear elliptic PDEs which comprises the well-known Lane–Emden system and Yamabe equation.We obtain integrability and regularity for the positive solutions to systems (1). A regularity lifting method by contracting operators is used in proving the integrability, and while deriving the Lipschitz continuity, a brand new idea – Lifting Regularity by Shrinking Operators is introduced. We hope to see many more applications of this new idea in lifting regularities of solutions for nonlinear problems.  相似文献

In this paper, the authors characterize, in terms of pointwise inequalities, the classical Besov spaces and Triebel–Lizorkin spaces for all s∈(0,1) and p,q∈(n/(n+s),∞], both in Rn and in the metric measure spaces enjoying the doubling and reverse doubling properties. Applying this characterization, the authors prove that quasiconformal mappings preserve on Rn for all s∈(0,1) and q∈(n/(n+s),∞]. Let be the open non-cuspidal locus of the modular curve associated to the normalizer of a non-split Cartan subgroup of level n. As Serre pointed out, an imaginary quadratic field of class number one gives rise to an integral point on for suitably chosen n. In this note, we give a genus formula for the modular curves and we give three new solutions to the class number one problem using the modular curves for n=16,20,21. An observation is said to be a layered nearest neighbour (LNN) of a point if the hyperrectangle defined by and contains no other data points. We first establish consistency results on , the number of LNN of . Then, given a sample of independent identically distributed random vectors from Rd×R, one may estimate the regression function by the LNN estimate , defined as an average over the Yi’s corresponding to those which are LNN of . Under mild conditions on r, we establish the consistency of towards 0 as n, for almost all and all p≥1, and discuss the links between rn and the random forest estimates of Breiman (2001) [8]. We finally show the universal consistency of the bagged (bootstrap-aggregated) nearest neighbour method for regression and classification.  相似文献

In 1972 K.I. Tahara [7,2, Theorem 2.2.5], using cohomological methods, showed that if a finite group is the semidirect product of a normal subgroup N and a subgroup T, then M(T) is a direct factor of M(G), where M(G) is the Schur-multiplicator of G and in the finite case, is the second cohomology group of G. In 1977 W. Haebich [1, Theorem 1.7] gave another proof using a different method for an arbitrary group G.In this paper we generalize the above theorem. We will show that scNcM(T) is a direct factor of cM(G), where c[3, p. 102] is the variety of nilpotent groups of class at most c ≥ 1 and cM(G) is the Baer-invariant of the group G with respect to the variety c [3, p. 107].  相似文献

We consider non-local linear Schrödinger-type critical systems of the type(1) where Ω is antisymmetric potential in L2(R,so(m)), v is an Rm valued map and Ωv denotes the matrix multiplication. We show that every solution vL2(R,Rm) of (1) is in fact in , for every 2?p<+∞, in other words, we prove that the system (1) which is a-priori only critical in L2 happens to have a subcritical behavior for antisymmetric potentials.
