The boundary layer flow of a nanofluid past a stretching/shrinking sheet with hydrodynamic and thermal slip boundary conditions is studied. Numerical solutions to the governing equations are obtained using a shooting method. The results are found for the skin friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number, and the local Sherwood number as well as the velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles for some values of the velocity slip parameter, thermal slip parameter, stretching/shrinking parameter, thermophoresis parameter, and Brownian motion parameter. The results show that the local Nusselt number, which represents the heat transfer rate, is lower for higher values of thermal slip parameter, thermophoresis parameter, and Brownian motion parameter.  相似文献

The magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) mixed convection flow past a shrinking vertical sheet with thermal radiation is considered. Besides, the effects of Cu-Al2O3 nanoparticles and dust particles are considered. The similarity variables reduce the governing equations to the similarity equations, which are then solved numerically. The outcome shows that, for the shrinking case, the solutions are not unique. The rate of heat transfer and the friction factor enlarge with increasing the...  相似文献

This paper investigates the unsteady boundary layer stagnation-point flow and heat transfer over a linearly shrinking sheet in the presence of velocity and thermal slips. Similarity solutions for the transformed governing equations are obtained and the reduced equations are then solved numerically using fourth order Runge-Kutta method with shooting technique. The numerical results show that multiple solutions exist for certain range of the ratio of shrinking velocity to the free stream velocity (i.e., α) which again depend on the unsteadiness parameter β and the velocity slip parameter (i.e., δ). An enhancement of the velocity slip parameter δ causes more increment in the existence range of similarity solution. Fluid velocity at a point increases increases with the increase in the value of the velocity slip parameter δ, resulting in a decrease in the temperature field. The effects of the velocity and thermal slip parameters, unsteadiness parameter (β) and the velocity ratio parameter (α) on the velocity and temperature distributions are computed, analyzed and discussed. The reported results are in good agreement with the available published results in the literature.  相似文献

The steady flow and heat transfer of a hybrid nanofluid past a permeable stretching/shrinking wedge with magnetic field and radiation effects are studied. The governing equations of the hybrid nanofluid are converted to the similarity equations by techniques of the similarity transformation. The bvp4c function that is available in MATLAB software is utilized for solving the similarity equations numerically. The numerical results are obtained for selected different values of parameters. An analysis is made of steady two-dimensional oblique stagnation-point flow and radiative heat transfer of an incompressible viscous fluid towards a shrinking sheet which is shrunk in its own plane with a velocity proportional to the distance from a fixed point. Here the axis of the stagnation flow and that of the shrinking sheet are not aligned. A similarity transformation reduces the Navier-Stokes equations to a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations and are solved numerically using a shooting technique. The analysis of the results obtained shows that multiple solutions exist for a certain range of the ratio of the shrinking velocity to the free stream velocity. The effect of non-alignment for the wall shear stress and the horizontal velocity components are discussed. Streamline patterns are also shown for shrinking at the sheet with aligned and non-aligned cases. It is found that the temperature at a point in the fluid decreases with increase in effective Prandtl number (Pr eff ). The results pertaining to the present study indicate that as Pr eff increases, the rate of heat transfer also increases. The reported results are in good agreement with the available published work in the literature.  相似文献

An analysis is carried out to study the steady two-dimensional stagnation-point flow and heat transfer of an incompressible viscous fluid over a porous shrinking sheet in the presence of thermal radiation. A set of similarity transformations reduce the boundary layer equations to a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations which are solved numerically using fourth order Runge-Kutta method with shooting technique. The analysis of the result obtained shows that as the porosity parameter β increases, the range of region of existence of similarity solution increases. It is also observed that multiple solutions exist for a certain range of the ratio of the shrinking velocity to the free stream velocity (i.e., α) which again depends on β. We then discuss the stability of the unsteady solutions about each steady solution, showing that one steady state solution corresponds to a stable solution whereas the other corresponds to an unstable solution. The stable solution corresponds to the physically relevant solution. Further we obtain numerical results for each solution, which enable us to discuss the features of the respective solutions.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to present the boundary layer flow of viscous incompressible fluid due to a porous vertical stretching surface with a power-law stretching velocity in a thermally stratified medium. Using a special form of Lie group transformations viz. scaling group of transformations, similarity solutions for this problem are obtained. The equations are then solved numerically. With increasing values of the stratification parameter, the velocity as well as temperature decreases. At a particular point of the porous stretching sheet, the velocity decreases with the increasing suction parameter. The dimensionless temperature at a point of the sheet decreases due to suction but increases due to injection. The findings of this study reveal that stratification and suction can be used as means of cooling the boundary layer flow region.  相似文献

An analysis is performed for the unsteady mixed convection flow of an incompressible viscous fluid about a stagnation point on a stretching sheet in the presence of a variable free stream. The equations of motion and energy are transformed into the ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformations. Homotopy analysis method is used for the solution of the governing problem. The results have been discussed by plots. The present values of the function are shown very close to the previous limiting solutions. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a fluid through a porous medium towards a stretching sheet in presence of heat generation or absorption is considered in this analysis. Fluid viscosity is assumed to vary as a linear function of temperature. The symmetry groups admitted by the corresponding boundary value problem are obtained by using a special form of Lie group transformations viz. scaling group of transformations. These transformations are used to convert the partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum and the energy equations into highly non-linear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained by shooting method. It is found that the horizontal velocity decreases with increasing temperature-dependent fluid viscosity parameter up to the crossing-over point but increases after that point and the temperature decreases in this case. With the increase of permeability parameter of the porous medium the fluid velocity decreases but the temperature increases at a particular point of the sheet. Effects of Prandtl number on the velocity boundary layer and on the thermal boundary layer are studied and plotted.  相似文献

The goal of the present paper is to examine the magnetohydrodynamic effects on the boundary layer flow of the Jeffrey fluid model for a non-Newtonian nanofluid past a stretching sheet with considering the effects of a heat source/sink. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to a set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using suitable similarity transformations. These equations are then solved by the variational finite element method. The profiles of the velocity, temperature, and nanoparticle volume fraction are presented graphically, and the values of the Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are tabulated. The present results are compared with previously published works and are found to be in good agreement with them.  相似文献

An analysis is made for the steady two-dimensional magneto-hydrodynamic flow of an incompressible viscous and electrically conducting fluid over a stretching vertical sheet in its own plane. The stretching velocity, the surface temperature and the transverse magnetic field are assumed to vary in a power-law with the distance from the origin. The transformed boundary layer equations are solved numerically for some values of the involved parameters, namely the magnetic parameter M, the velocity exponent parameter m, the temperature exponent parameter n and the buoyancy parameter λ, while the Prandtl number Pr is fixed, namely Pr = 1, using a finite difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. Similarity solutions are obtained in the presence of the buoyancy force if n = 2m−1. The features of the flow and heat transfer characteristics for different values of the governing parameters are analyzed and discussed. It is found that both the skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number decrease as the magnetic parameter M increases for fixed λ and m. For m = 0.2 (i.e. n = −0.6), although the sheet and the fluid are at different temperatures, there is no local heat transfer at the surface of the sheet except at the singular point of the origin (fixed point).  相似文献

The paper considers the flow of a power-law fluid past a vertical stretching sheet. Effects of variable thermal conductivity and non-uniform heat source/sink on the heat transfer are addressed. The thermal conductivity is assumed to vary linearly with temperature. Similarity transformation is used to convert the governing partial differential equations into a set of coupled, non-linear ordinary differential equations. Two different types of boundary heating are considered, namely Prescribed power-law Surface Temperature (PST) and Prescribed power-law Heat Flux (PHF). Shooting method is used to obtain the numerical solution for the resulting boundary value problems. The effects of Chandrasekhar number, Grashof number, Prandtl number, non-uniform heat source/sink parameters, wall temperature parameter and variable thermal conductivity parameter on the dynamics are shown graphically in several plots. The skin friction and heat transfer coefficients are tabulated for a range of values of the parameters. Present study reveals that in a gravity affected flow buoyancy effect has a significant say in the control of flow and heat transfer.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with two-dimensional stagnation-point steady flow of an incompressible viscous fluid towards a stretching sheet whose velocity is proportional to the distance from the slit. The governing system of partial differential equations is first transformed into a system of dimensionless ordinary differential equations. Analytical solutions of the velocity distribution and dimensionless temperature profiles are obtained for different ratios of free stream velocity and stretching velocity, Prandtl number, Eckert number and dimensionality index in series forms using homotopy analysis method(HAM). It is shown that a boundary layer is formed when the free stream velocity exceeds the stretching velocity, and an inverted boundary layer is formed when the free stream velocity is less than the stretching velocity. Graphs are presented to show the effects of different parameters.  相似文献

An analysis is presented to investigate the effects of thermophoresis variable viscosity on MHD mixed convective heat and mass transfer of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid past a porous wedge in the presence of chemical reaction. The wall of the wedge is embedded in a uniform porous medium in order to allow for possible fluid wall suction or injection. The governing boundary layer equations are written into a dimensionless form by local non-similarity transformations. The transformed coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically by using the R.K. Gill and shooting methods. Favorable comparison with previously published work is performed. Numerical results for the dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are obtained and displayed graphically for pertinent parameters to show interesting aspects of the solution.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of unsteady axisymmetric boundary layer flow and heat transfer induced by a permeable shrinking sheet in the presence of radiation effect is studied. The transformed boundary layer equations are solved numerically by an implicit finite‐difference scheme known as the Keller‐box method. The influence of radiation, unsteadiness and mass suction parameters on the reduced skin friction coefficient f′′(0) and the heat transfer coefficient ?θ′(0), as well as the velocity and temperature profiles are presented and discussed in detail. It is found that dual solutions exist and suction parameter delays the separation of boundary layer. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

An analysis is made for the steady mixed convection boundary layer flow near the two-dimensional stagnation-point flow of an incompressible viscous fluid over a stretching vertical sheet in its own plane. The stretching velocity and the surface temperature are assumed to vary linearly with the distance from the stagnation-point. Two equal and opposite forces are impulsively applied along the x-axis so that the wall is stretched, keeping the origin fixed in a viscous fluid of constant ambient temperature. The transformed ordinary differential equations are solved numerically for some values of the parameters involved using a very efficient numerical scheme known as the Keller-box method. The features of the flow and heat transfer characteristics are analyzed and discussed in detail. Both cases of assisting and opposing flows are considered. It is observed that, for assisting flow, both the skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number increase as the buoyancy parameter increases, while only the local Nusselt number increases but the skin friction coefficient decreases as the Prandtl number increases. For opposing flow, both the skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number decrease as the buoyancy parameter increases, but both increase as Pr increases. Comparison with known results is excellent.  相似文献
