Arborescent copolymers with a core‐shell‐corona (CSC) architecture, incorporating a polystyrene (PS) core, an inner shell of poly(2‐vinylpyridine), P2VP, and a corona of PS chains, were obtained by anionic polymerization and grafting. Living PS‐b‐P2VP‐Li block copolymers serving as side chains were obtained by capping polystyryllithium with 1,1‐diphenylethylene before adding 2‐vinylpyridine. A linear or arborescent (generation G0 – G3) PS substrate, randomly functionalized with acetyl or chloromethyl coupling sites, was then added to the PS‐b‐P2VP‐Li solution for the grafting reaction. The grafting yield and the coupling efficiency observed in the synthesis of the arborescent PS‐g‐(P2VP‐b‐PS) copolymers were much lower than for analogous coupling reactions previously used to synthesize arborescent PS homopolymers and PS‐g‐P2VP copolymers from the same types of coupling sites. It was determined from static and dynamic light scattering analysis that PS‐b‐P2VP formed aggregates in THF, the solvent used for the synthesis. This presumably hindered coupling of the macroanions with the substrate, and explains the low grafting yield and coupling efficiency observed in these reactions. Purification of the crude products was also problematic due to the amphipolar character of the CSC copolymers and the block copolymer contaminant. A new fractionation method by cloud‐point centrifugation was developed to purify copolymers of generations G1 and above. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. New amphiphilic graft copolymers that have a poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) biodegradable hydrophobic backbone and poly(4‐vinylpyridine) (P4VP) or poly(2‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) hydrophilic side chains have been prepared by anionic polymerization of the corresponding 4VP and DMAEMA monomers using a PCL‐based macropolycarbanion as initiator. The water solubility of these amphiphilic copolymers is improved by quaternization, which leads to fully water‐soluble cationic copolymers that give micellar aggregates in deionized water with diameters ranging from 65 to 125 nm. In addition, to improve the hydrophilicity of PCL‐g‐P4VP, grafting of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) segments has been carried out to give a water‐soluble double grafted PCL‐g‐(P4VP;PEG) terpolymer.

A series of well‐defined double hydrophilic graft copolymers, consisting of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐b‐poly(ethyl acrylate) backbone and poly(2‐vinylpyridine) side chains, were synthesized by successive single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The backbone was prepared by sequential SET‐LRP of N‐isopropylacrylamide and 2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate at 25 °C using CuCl/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as the catalytic system. The obtained diblock copolymer was transformed into the macroinitiator by reacting with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride. Next, grafting‐from strategy was used for the synthesis of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐b‐[poly(ethyl acrylate)‐g‐poly(2‐vinylpyridine)] double hydrophilic graft copolymer. ATRP of 2‐vinylpyridine was initiated by the macroinitiator at 25 °C using CuCl/hexamethyldiethylenetriamine as the catalytic system. The synthesis of both the backbone and the side chains are controllable. Thermo‐ and pH‐responsive schizophrenic micellization behaviors were investigated by 1H NMR, fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy. Unimolecular micelles with PNIPAM‐core formed in acidic environment (pH = 2) with elevated temperature (T ≥ 32 °C), whereas the aggregates turned into spheres with PEA‐g‐P2VP‐core accompanied with the lifting of pH values (pH ≥ 5.3) at room temperature. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined double hydrophilic graft copolymers containing poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate) (PPEGMEA) backbone and poly(2‐vinylpyridine) (P2VP) side chains were synthesized by successive single electron transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The backbone was first prepared by SET‐LRP of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate (PEGMEA) macromonomer using CuBr/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as catalytic system. The obtained homopolymer then reacted with lithium diisopropylamide and 2‐chloropropionyl chloride at ?78 °C to afford PPEGMEA‐Cl macroinitiator. poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate)‐g‐poly(2‐vinylpyridine) double hydrophilic graft copolymers were finally synthesized by. ATRP of 2‐vinylpyridine initiated by PPEGMEA‐Cl macroinitiator at 25 °C using CuCl/hexamethyldiethylenetriamine as catalytic system via the grafting‐ from strategy. The molecular weights of both the backbone and the side chains were controllable and the molecular weight distributions kept relatively narrow (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.40). pH‐Responsive micellization behavior was investigated by 1H NMR, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy and this kind of double hydrophilic graft copolymer aggregated to form micelles with P2VP‐core while pH of the aqueous solution was above 5.0. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymer complexes were prepared from high molecular weight poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and poly(styrene)‐block‐poly(4‐vinyl pyridine) (PS‐b‐P4VP) in dimethyl formamide (DMF). The hydrogen bonding interactions, phase behavior, and morphology of the complexes were investigated using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic light scattering (DLS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In this A‐b‐B/C type block copolymer/homopolymer system, P4VP block of the block copolymer has strong intermolecular interaction with PAA which led to the formation of nanostructured micelles at various PAA concentrations. The pure PS‐b‐P4VP block copolymer showed a cylindrical rodlike morphology. Spherical micelles were observed in the complexes and the size of the micelles increased with increasing PAA concentration. The micelles are composed of hydrogen‐bonded PAA/P4VP core and non‐bonded PS corona. Finally, a model was proposed to explain the microphase morphology of complex based on the experimental results obtained. The selective swelling of the PS‐b‐P4VP block copolymer by PAA resulted in the formation of different micelles. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The block copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(4‐vinylpyridine) was synthesized by a combination of living anionic ring‐opening polymerization and a controllable radical mechanism. The poly(ethylene oxide) prepolymer with the 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyl‐1‐oxy end group (PEOT) was first obtained by anionic ring‐opening polymerization of ethylene oxide with sodium 4‐oxy‐2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyl‐1‐oxy as the initiator in a homogeneous process. In the polymerization UV and electron spin resonance spectroscopy determined the 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyl‐1‐oxy moiety was left intact. The copolymers were then obtained by radical polymerization of 4‐vinylpyridine in the presence of PEOT. The polymerization showed a controllable radical mechanism. The desired block copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, Fourier transform infrared, and NMR spectroscopy in detail. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Miscibility and strong specific interactions that occurred within homoblends of poly(styrene‐co‐4‐vinylpyridine) containing 15 mol % of 4‐vinylpyridine (PS4VP15) and poly(styrene‐co‐methacrylic acid) containing 15 mol % of methacrylic acid (PSMA15) have been examined by Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy and DSC. The observed positive deviation of the glass transition temperature of the blends from the linear average line, was analyzed by the frequently used theoretical conventional approaches including the one very recently proposed by Brostow. A better fit was obtained when this latter is used. A reasonable agreement with experimental values was also obtained when the theoretical fitting parameter free method developed by Coleman, is applied to predict the composition dependence of the Tg of this system. A thermodynamic analysis of hydrogen bonding in this system was carried using the Painter‐Coleman association model and the variation of the Gibbs function of mixing and its different contributions and corresponding phase diagrams as a function of temperature and composition were estimated. This analysis predicted PSMA15 to be miscible with PS4VP15 in the whole composition range up to 150 °C. Above this temperature, a partial miscibility is predicted when the PS4VP15 is in excess. The DSC results are in agreement with these predictions. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 47: 923–931, 2009  相似文献

Statistical copolymerizations of 2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) with 2‐vinylpyridine (2VP) with 80 to 99 mol % DMAEMA in the feed utilizing a succinimidyl ester‐terminated alkoxyamine unimolecular initiator (NHS‐BlocBuilder) at 80 °C in bulk were performed. The effectiveness of 2VP as a controlling comonomer is demonstrated by linear increases in number‐average molecular weight versus conversion, relatively low PDI (1.5–1.6 with up to 98% DMAEMA) and successful chain extensions with 2VP. Additional free nitroxide does not significantly improve control for the DMAEMA/2VP copolymerizations. The succinimidyl ester on the initiator permits coupling to amine‐terminated poly(propylene glycol) (PPG), yielding an effective macroinitiator for synthesizing a doubly thermo‐responsive block copolymer of PPG‐block‐P(DMAEMA/2VP). A detailed study of the thermo‐ and pH‐sensitivities of the statistical and block copolymers is also presented. The cloud point temperature of the statistical copolymers is fine tuned from 14 to 75 °C by varying polymer composition and pH. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Double hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PEO‐b‐PNIPAM) block copolymers were synthesized via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, using a PEO‐based chain transfer agent (PEO‐CTA). The molecular structures of the copolymers were designed to be asymmetric with a short PEO block and long PNIPAM blocks. Temperature‐induced aggregation behavior of the block copolymers in dilute aqueous solutions was systematically investigated by a combination of static and dynamic light scattering. The effects of copolymer composition, concentration (Cp), and heating rate on the size, aggregation number, and morphology of the aggregates formed at temperatures above the LCST were studied. In slow heating processes, the aggregates formed by the copolymer having the longest PNIPAM block, were found to have the same morphology (spherical “crew‐cut” micelles) within the full range of Cp. Nevertheless, for the copolymer having the shortest PNIPAM block, the morphology of the aggregates showed a great dependence on Cp. Elongation of the aggregates from spherical to ellipsoidal or even cylindrical was observed. Moreover, vesicles were observed at the highest Cp investigated. Fast heating leads to different characteristics of the aggregates, including lower sizes and aggregation numbers, higher densities, and different morphologies. Thermodynamic and kinetic mechanisms were proposed to interpret these observations, including the competition between PNIPAM intrachain collapse and interchain aggregation. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A well‐defined amphiphilic coil‐rod block copolymer, poly(2‐vinyl pyridine)‐b‐poly(n‐hexyl isocyanate) (P2VP‐b‐PHIC), was synthesized with quantitative yields by anionic polymerization. A low reactive one‐directional initiator, potassium diphenyl methane (DPM‐K), was very effective in polymerizing 2‐vinyl pyridine (2VP) without side reactions, leading to perfect control over molecular weight and molecular weight distribution over a broad range of initiator and monomer concentration. Copolymerization of 2VP with n‐hexyl isocyanate (HIC) was carried out in the presence of sodium tetraphenyl borate (NaBPh4) to prevent backbiting reactions during isocyanate polymerization. Terminating the living end with a suitable end‐capping agent resulted in a P2VP‐b‐PHIC coil‐rod block copolymer with controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution. Cast film from a chloroform solution of P2VP‐b‐PHIC displayed microphase separation, characteristic of coil‐rod block copolymers. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article describes the synthesis and characterization of [polystyrene‐b‐poly(2‐vinylpyridine)]n star‐block copolymers with the poly(2‐vinylpyridine) blocks at the periphery. A two‐step living anionic polymerization method was used. Firstly, oligo(styryl)lithium grafted poly(divinylbenzene) cores were used as multifunctional initiators to initiate living anionic polymerization of styrene in benzene at room temperature. Secondly, vinylpyridine was polymerized at the periphery of these living (polystyrene)n stars in tetrahydrofuran at ?78 °C. The resulting copolymers were characterized using size exclusion chromatography, multiangle laser light scattering, 1H NMR, elemental analysis, and intrinsic viscosity measurements. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis and self‐assembly properties in aqueous solutions of novel amphiphilic block copolymers composed of one hydrophilic, pH and temperature responsive poly(dimethyl amino ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) block and one weakly hydrophobic, water insoluble, potentially thermoresponsive poly(hydroxy propyl methacrylate) (PHPMA) block, are reported. The block copolymers were prepared by RAFT polymerization and were molecularly characterized by size exclusion chromatography, NMR, and FTIR spectroscopies. The PDMAEMA‐b‐PHPMA amphiphilic block copolymers self‐assemble in different nanostructured aggregates when inserted in aqueous media. The effects of different solubilization protocols, as well as the effects of solution temperature and pH on the structure of the aggregates, are studied by light scattering and fluorescence spectroscopy measurements. Experimental results indicate that there is a number of solution preparation and physicochemical parameters that allow the control and manipulation of the structure and thermoresponsive properties of PDMAEMA‐b‐PHPMA aggregates in aqueous media. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Bulk free‐radical polymerization of 2‐vinylpyridine (2VP) in the presence of 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐N‐oxyl (TEMPO) was studied under different conditions (temperature and presence of additives). Linear poly‐(2‐vinylpyridine) with a narrow molecular weight distribution and controllable molecular weight was prepared in the presence of acetic anhydride at 95 °C up to a conversion of 66%. At higher conversions side reactions became very important (pseudoliving polymerization). By applying this procedure, well‐defined random copolymers of 2VP with styrene or tert‐butylmethacrylate as well as block copolymers of 2VP with styrene were synthesized. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. An approach for the preparation of block copolymer vesicles through ultrasonic treatment of polystyrene‐block‐poly(2‐vinyl pyridine) (PS‐b‐P2VP) micelles under alkaline conditions is reported. PS‐b‐P2VP block copolymers in toluene, a selective solvent for PS, form spherical micelles. If a small amount of NaOH solution is added to the micelles solution during ultrasonic treatment, organic‐inorganic Janus‐like particles composed of the PS‐b‐P2VP block copolymers and NaOH are generated. After removal of NaOH, block copolymer vesicles are obtained. A possible mechanism for the morphological transition from spherical micelles to vesicles or Janus‐like particles is discussed. If the block copolymer micelles contain inorganic precursors, such as FeCl3, hybrid vesicles are formed, which may be useful as biological and chemical sensors or nanostructured templates. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of novel temperature‐ and pH‐responsive graft copolymers, poly(L ‐glutamic acid)‐g‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide), were synthesized by coupling amino‐semitelechelic poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) with N‐hydroxysuccinimide‐activated poly(L ‐glutamic acid). The graft copolymers and their precursors were characterized, by ESI‐FTICR Mass Spectrum, intrinsic viscosity measurements and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR). The phase‐transition and aggregation behaviors of the graft copolymers in aqueous solutions were investigated by the turbidity measurements and dynamic laser scattering. The solution behavior of the copolymers showed dependence on both temperature and pH. The cloud point (CP) of the copolymer solution at pH 5.0–7.4 was slightly higher than that of the solution of the PNIPAM homopolymer because of the hydrophilic nature of the poly(glutamic acid) (PGA) backbone. The CP markedly decreased when the pH was lowered from 5 to 4.2, caused by the decrease in hydrophilicity of the PGA backbone. At a temperature above the lower critical solution temperature of the PNIPAM chain, the copolymers formed amphiphilic core‐shell aggregates at pH 4.5–7.4 and the particle size was reduced with decreasing pH. In contrast, larger hydrophobic aggregates were formed at pH 4.2. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 4140–4150, 2008  相似文献

New, water soluble poly(glycidol) (PGl) macroinitiators for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) were synthesized. This new class of macroinitiators were prepared in a three‐step process. First, series of well‐defined ω‐hydroxyl functional poly(glycidol acetal)s with different molecular weights was synthesized via anionic polymerization followed by quantitative termination of anionically growing active sites. End capping was achieved by treatment of living chain ends with water. The living nature of the system and termination reaction is discussed. In the second stage, monofunctional poly(glycidol acetal)s were functionalized by esterification with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride. Finally, selective deprotection (hydrolysis) of acetal protective groups was performed. As simultaneous partial cleavage of ester bond of attached ATRP moieties was unavoidable, the final functionality of macroinitiator calculated from 1H NMR varied in the range 85–95%. The obtained (2‐chloropropionyl) poly(glycidol) macroinitiator with DP = 55 and 90% functionality was successfully used in ATRP polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) at room temperature in the DMF/water mixture. Linear block copolymers with relatively narrow molecular weight distribution and controlled composition were obtained and characterized with 1H NMR and SEC‐MALLS measurements. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The immobilization of molybdenum (Mo) compounds on poly(4‐vinylpyridine) (P4VP) microspheres for catalytic epoxidation was reported. P4VP‐supported Mo compounds were highly efficient and selective for the epoxidation of cis‐cyclooctene using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as oxygen source. When ethanol was used as solvents, outstanding catalytic activity and selectivity were observed for Mo‐containing catalysts in the epoxidation of cis‐cyclooctene. A completely green epoxidation system based on H2O2 and cleaner solvent has been achieved, and the heterogenized Mo catalyst can be recovered for five times without loss of its activity. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The miscibility of polysulfone (PSf) with various hydrophilic copolymers was explored. Among these blends, PSf gave homogeneous mixtures with poly(1‐vinylpyrrolidone‐co‐styrene) [P(VP–S)] copolymers when these copolymers contained 68–88 wt % 1‐vinylpyrrolidone (VP). Miscible PSf blends with P(VP–S) copolymers underwent phase separation on heating caused by lower critical solution temperature (LCST)‐type phase behavior. The phase behavior depended on the copolymer composition. Changes in the VP content of P(VP–S) copolymers from 65 to 68 wt % shifted the phase behavior from immiscibility to miscibility and the LCST behavior. The phase‐separation temperatures of the miscible blends first increased gradually with the VP content, then went through a broad maximum centered at about 80 wt % VP, and finally decreased just before the limiting content of VP for miscibility with PSf. The interaction energies of binary pairs involved in PSf/P(VP–S) blends were evaluated from the phase‐separation temperatures of PSf/P(VP–S) blends with lattice‐fluid theory combined with a binary interaction model. The decrease in the contact angle between water and the membrane surface with increasing VP content in P(VP–S) copolymers indicated that the hydrophobic properties of PSf could be improved via blending with hydrophilic P(VP–S) copolymers. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report on the synthesis of poly[(sodium sulfamate/carboxylate) isoprene‐b‐2‐vinyl pyridine] block polyampholytes (SCPI‐P2VP), utilizing anionic polymerization and post polymerization functionalization reactions. The precursor poly(isoprene‐b‐(2‐vinylpyridine)) diblock copolymers (PI‐P2VP), containing a polyisoprene (PI) block with high 1,4 microstructure, were prepared by anionic polymerization high vacuum techniques, in two steps, involving change of the polymerization solvent. Subsequent functionalization of the PI block with chlorosulfonyl isocyanate, introduced sulfamate and carboxylate groups in the polymer chains and produced the desired block polyampholytes. The successful synthesis of the polyampolytes was corroborated by elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy measurements. The self‐assembly behaviour of the aforementioned polyampholytes was studied in aqueous solutions as a function of pH, by aid of dynamic and static light scattering, zeta potential, fluorescence spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. Experimental results indicate that the block polyampholytes form micellar structures with P2VP cores and SCPI coronas at pH > 6, whereas more compact nanoparticles are formed at pH < 4 from the complexation of positively charged P2VP and SCPI, stabilized by excess negative charges of uncomplexed SCI segments. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphilic triblock copolymers with varying ratios of hydrophilic poly[bis (methoxyethoxyethoxy)phosphazene] (MEEP) and relatively hydrophobic poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) blocks were synthesized via the controlled cationic‐induced living polymerization of a phosphoranimine (Cl3P?NSiMe3) at ambient temperature. A PPG block can function as either a classical hydrophobic block or a less hydrophobic component by varying the nature of a phosphazene block. The aqueous phase behavior of MEEP‐PPG‐MEEP block copolymers was investigated using fluorescence techniques, TEM, and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The critical micelle concentrations (cmcs) of MEEP‐PPG‐MEEP block copolymers were determined to be in the range of 3.7–16.8 mg/L. The mean diameters of MEEP‐PPG‐MEEP polymeric micelles, measured by DLS, were between 31 and 44 nm. The equilibrium constants of pyrene in these micelles ranged from 4.7 × 104 to 9.6 × 104. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 692–699, 2009  相似文献
