Here, we demonstrate the synthesis of graphene on Ag foil by an atmospheric‐pressure (AP) chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process as tarnish‐resistant coating. Synthesis of a continuous graphene film on Ag foil is achieved using the solid camphor as carbon precursor in a gas mixture of Ar and H2. Tarnishing of the Ag surface through sulfidation is investigated with and without coating of the graphene film. It is observed that the bare Ag surface immediately reacts with sulfur vapor to turn black, whereas graphene coating passivates the Ag surface robustly and thereby restrains the sulfur reaction to preserve from tarnishing. Our findings show that a large‐area graphene film can be effectively grown on Ag surface by a CVD process as a tarnish and corrosion resistance barrier.

This Letter reports on the assembly on the tip of an optical fibre of a metamaterial film fabricated by a self‐assembly bottom‐up method, composed of silver nanowires embedded in an alumina matrix. By illuminating the film through the fibre in a reflection configuration, we observe experimentally the optical response of the metamaterial in agreement with theoretical predictions and interpreted as the excitation of surface plasmon‐polaritons in the cylindrical surface of the nanowires. These results pave the way for low‐cost optical fibre devices that incorporate metamaterial films.

High‐speed solution shearing, in which a drop of dissolved material is spread by a coating knife onto the substrate, has emerged as a versatile, yet simple coating technique to prepare high‐mobility organic thin film transistors. Solution shearing and subsequent drying and crystallization of a thin film of conjugated molecules is probed in situ using microbeam grazing incidence wide‐angle X‐ray scattering (μGIWAXS). We demonstrate the advantages of this approach to study solution based crystal nucleation and growth, and identify casting parameter combinations to cast highly ordered and laterally aligned molecular thin films.

Steady‐state and time‐resolved photoluminescence of silicon nanoparticles dispersed in low‐polar liquids at above room temperature is studied. The roles of low‐polar liquids as well as mechanisms responsible for their temperature‐dependent photoluminescence are discussed. The thermal sensitivity of the photoluminescence is estimated and application of the nanoparticles as nanothermometers is proposed.

Quasi‐aligned molybdenum oxide nanowires are synthesized on silicon substrate by a thermal evaporation method, at a low temperature of 550 °C without using any catalyst. The diameter of these nanowires is about 100 nm, with steps in the top to form a sharp tip. The field emission measurement shows that these nanowires have strong electron field emission abilities, with high field enhancement factor and a relatively low turn‐on field of 2.16 V µm–1, suggesting that these molybdenum oxide nanowire arrays might be promising candidates as field emitters.

We report the fabrication procedure and the characterization of an Al0.3Ga0.7As solar cell containing high‐density GaAs strain‐free quantum dots grown by droplet epitaxy. The production of photocurrent when two sub‐bandgap energy photons are absorbed simultaneously is demonstrated. The high quality of the quantum dot/barrier pair, allowed by the high quality of nanostructured strain‐free materials, opens new opportunities for quantum dot based solar cells.

Write‐once–read‐many‐times memory (WORM) devices were fabricated using Ti/Au and Au as top contacts on ZnO thin films on Si. Electrical characterization shows that both types of WORM devices have large resistance OFF/ON ratio (R ratio), small resistance distribution range, long retention and good endurance. WORM devices with Au top contact have better performance of higher R ratio because of a larger work function of Au compared to Ti.

We present a simplified process sequence for the fabrication of large area n‐type silicon solar cells. The boron emitter and full area phosphorus back surface field are formed in one single high temperature step using doped glasses deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD) as diffusion sources. By optimizing the gas composition during the PECVD process, we not only prevent the formation of a boron rich layer (BRL), but also achieve doping profiles that exhibit a low dark saturation current density while allowing for contact formation by screen printing. The presented co‐diffusion process allows for major process simplification compared to the state of the art diffusion process relying on multiple high temperature processes, masking and wet chemistry steps.

Lead carbonate chloride, Pb2CO3Cl2, known as mineral phosgenite, is introduced as a novel SRS‐active carbonate crystal with tetragonal symmetry. Under picosecond one‐micron laser pumping Raman‐induced χ(3)‐nonlinear generation in the near‐IR is observed. All recorded high‐order Stokes and anti‐Stokes sidebands are identified and attributed to two SRS‐promoting vibration modes with ωSRS1 ≈ 1062 cm–1 and ωSRS2 ≈ 86 cm–1.

Optically transparent and high‐quality hybrid ZnO nanoparticle and anthracene embedded polyphenylsiloxane (PPS) glass films were spin‐coated on quartz substrates. A strong Förster resonant energy transfer (FRET) process was indicated by the observation of quenching of the ZnO emission and an enhancement of the anthracene emission at room temperature. The efficiency of this energy transfer between ZnO and the S1 vibronic states of the anthracene molecules can be optimized to exceed 90%.

Twinning in a CuInS2 layer in a completed thin‐film solar cell was analyzed by means of electron backscatter diffraction. This technique revealed the microstructure of the CuInS2 thin films and local orientation relationships between the grains. At various locations within the layer it was possible to retrace how twinning occurred comparing the local orientations with the theoretically possible changes in orientation by twinning. We report on solution‐processible polymer solar cells (PSCs) fabricated on a papery substrate using carton. Highly conductive PEDOT:PSS was used as a bottom anode and planarization layer, and a semi‐transparent top cathode was applied. This research could be an important approach to the development of all‐solution‐processible papery PSCs as well as paper electronics.

We report a stacked Y2O3/TiOx resistive random access memory (RRAM) device, showing good high‐temperature switching characteristics of extremely low reset current of 1 μA at 150 °C, large off/on resistance window (>200) at 150 °C, large rectification ratio of ~300 at 150 °C and good current distribution at 85 °C. The good rectifying property, lower high‐temperature sneak current and tighter high‐temperature current distribution can be attributed to the combined results of the oxygen vacancies in TiOx and the related carrier depletion effect.

The multiferroic Pb(Fe1/2V1/2)O3 (PFV) bulk ceramic was fabricated by a conventional ceramic sintering method. The strong visible‐light photovoltaic effect in Sn‐doped‐In2O3(ITO)/PFV/ITO structure capacitor was observed. The open‐circuit voltage was up to ~0.7 V, which was much higher than the value (~0.3 V) in BiFeO3 film. The photo‐excited electric current is almost proportional to the incident light illumination intensity. The good visible‐light photovoltaic makes PFV ceramic a potential candidate for practical application in solar cell devices.

Thin amorphous tantalum films are prepared on Si(111) substrates in a metallic glassy state. The amorphous monoatomic state of the film is characterized by X‐ray diffraction studies. The glassy state leads to a negative t emperature c oefficient of the r esistivity (TCR) for low sample temperatures <200 K which is attributed to incipient localization. Above 200 K a positive TCR is observed as expected for a normal Boltzmann transport regime. Upon heating the Si substrate to 1200 K TaSi2 is formed out of the amorphous tantalum film and the silicon substrate. The TaSi2 layer is crystalline as evident from X‐ray diffraction data.

We report a very simple and novel approach to produce anodic TiO2 nanotube arrays with highly defined and ordered tube openings. It is based on carrying out anodization through a slowly soluble photoresist coating. This eliminates the formation of undesired initiation layers on the tube tops and protects them to a certain extent from etching by the electrolyte.

In this Letter, we report a low operation voltage and high mobility flexible InGaZnO thin‐film transistor (TFT) using room‐temperature processed Y2O3/TiO2/Y2O3 gate dielectric. The flexible IGZO TFT showed a low threshold voltage of 0.75 V, a small sub‐threshold swing of 137 mV/decade, a good field effect mobility of 32.7 cm2/V s, and a large Ion/Ioff ratio of 1.7 × 106. The low operation voltage, small sub‐threshold swing and high mobility could be ascribed to the combination of high‐κ TiO2 and large band gap Y2O3, which provide the potential to meet the requirements of low‐temperature and low‐power portable electronics.

Multicrystalline silicon wafer solar cells reveal performance‐ reducing defects by luminescence. X‐ray fluorescence spectra are used to investigate the elemental constituents from regions of solar cells yielding reverse‐bias or sub‐bandgap luminescence from defects. It is found that a higher concentration of metals is present in regions yielding reverse‐bias electroluminescence than in regions yielding sub‐bandgap electroluminescence. This suggests, dislocations do not create strong breakdown currents in the absence of impurity precipitates.

Polymer nanocomposites containing different concentrations of Au nanoparticles have been investigated by small angle X‐ray scattering and electronic absorption spectroscopy. The variation in the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band of Au nanoparticles with concentration is described by a scaling law. The variation in the plasmon band of ReO3 nanoparticles embedded in polymers also follows a similar scaling law.

Heteroepitaxial growth of kesterite Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin film on cubic ZnS(100) single crystal substrate was achieved by radio frequency magnetron sputtering from a single CZTS target. An optimal substrate temperature in the range of 470–500 °C is found suitable for this epitaxial growth. The growth of CZTS was confirmed to be along a‐axis. The sputtered CZTS thin film is homogeneous throughout the whole film. The band gap of the film is found to be approximately 1.51 eV, i.e., promising for high efficiency thin film solar cells.
