New sulfur‐containing aromatic diamines with methyl groups at the ortho position of amino groups have been developed to prepare highly refractive and transparent aromatic polyimides (PIs) in the visible region. All aromatic PIs derived from 4,4′‐thiobis[2″‐methyl‐4″‐(p‐phenylenesulfanyl)aniline ( 2 ), 4,4′‐thiobis[2,″6″‐dimethyl‐4″‐(p‐phenylenesulfanyl)aniline ( 5 ), and aromatic dianhydride, 4,4′‐[p‐thiobis(phenylenesulfanyl)]diphthalic anhydride ( 6 ) were prepared via a two‐step polycondensation. All PIs showed good thermal properties, such as 10% weight loss temperature in the range of 497–500 °C and glass transition temperatures above 196 °C. In addition, the PIs showed good optical properties, such as optical transparency above 75% at 450 nm with a 10‐μm film thickness, high refractive indices ranging from 1.7135 to 1.7301, and small in‐plane/out‐of‐plane birefringences between 0.0066 and 0.0076. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To prepare novel polyimides with enhanced thermal stability and high solubility in common organic solvents, diamine monomers, 4‐aryl‐2,6 bis‐(4‐amino phenyl)pyridine, were introduced. The diamines were reacted with three different conventional aromatic dianhydrides including pyromellitic dianhydride, benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride, and hexafluoroisopropylidene‐2,2‐bis(phthalic‐dianhydride) (6FDA) in dimethylacetamide solvent to obtain the corresponding polyimides via the polyamic acid precursors and chemical imidization. The monomers and polymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H NMR, mass spectroscopy, and elemental analysis; and the best condition of polymerization and imidization were obtained via the study of model compound. The polyimides showed little or no weight loss by thermogravimetric analysis up to 500 °C, and those derived from 6FDA exhibited good solubility in various polar solvents. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Highly refractive and transparent polyimides (PIs) based on fluorene‐bridged and sulfur‐containing monomers have been developed. An aromatic dianhydride, 4,4′‐[p‐thiobis(phenylenesulfanyl)]diphthalic anhydride (3SDEA), was polymerized with several fluorene‐containing diamines, including commercially available 9,9′‐bis(p‐aminophenyl)fluorene (APF), 9,9′‐bis[4‐(p‐aminophenoxy)phenyl]fluorene (OAPF), and newly synthesized 9,9′‐bis[4‐(p‐aminophenyl)sulfanylphenyl]fluorene (ASPF) to afford series A PIs. Meanwhile, series B PIs were obtained from a new dianhydride, 4,4′‐[(9H‐fluorene‐9‐ylidene)bis(p‐phenylsulfanyl)]diphthalic anhydride (FPSP) and two aromatic diamines, ASPF and 4,4′‐thiobis[(p‐phenylenesulfanyl)aniline] (3SDA) via a two‐step polycondensation procedure. The PIs exhibit good thermal stabilities, such as relatively high glass transition temperatures in the range of 220–270 °C and high initial thermal decomposition temperatures (T10%) exceeding 490 °C. The 9,9′‐disubstituted fluorene moieties endow the PI films with good optical transparency. The optical transmittances of the PI films at 450 nm are all higher than 80% for the thickness of about 10 μm. Furthermore, the highly aromatic fluorene moiety and flexible thioether linkages in the molecular chains of the PIs provide them with high refractive indices of 1.6951–1.7258 and small birefringence of 0.0056–0.0070. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An aromatic sulfur‐containing diamine 4,4′‐thiobis[(p‐phenylenesulfanyl) aniline] (3SDA) was synthesized and polymerized with a sulfur‐containing dianhydride 4,4′‐[p‐thiobis(phenylenesulfanyl)]diphthalic anhydride (3SDEA) and three nonsulfur aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides, respectively to afford four poly(amic acid)s (PAAs) with the inherent viscosities of 0.54–1.04 dL/g. Flexible and tough polyimide (PI) films obtained from the PAA precursors showed good thermal, mechanical, and optical properties. The glass transition temperatures (Tgs) of the PIs ranged from 179.1–227.2 °C determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and 173.8–227.3 °C by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), depending on the dianhydride used. The 10% weight loss temperatures were in the range of 500–536 °C, showing high intrinsic thermal‐resistant characteristics of the PI films. The PI films also showed good optical transparency above 500 nm, which agreed well with the calculated absorption spectra using the time‐dependent density functional theory. The average refractive indices (nav) measured at 632.8 nm were 1.7191–1.7482, and the in‐plane/out‐of‐plane birefringences (Δn) were 0.0068–0.0123. The high refractive indices originate from the high sulfur contents, good molecular packing, and the absence of bulky structures. The relatively small birefringence mainly results from the flexible thioether linkages structures of the diamine. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The authors describe the synthesis and characterization of the polyimide (PI) series containing a 2,5‐bis(4‐aminophenylenesulfanyl)‐3,4‐ethylenedithiothiophene (APSEDTT) moiety in their main chain. The APSEDTT monomer with high sulfur content was prepared and polymerized with several aromatic dianhydrides such as 4,4′‐[p‐thio bis(phenylenesulfanyl)]diphthalic anhydride (3SDEA), 4,4′‐biphthalic anhydride (BPDA), and 4,4′‐oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA) by the traditional two‐step polycondensation procedure. All PIs exhibited high transparency, higher than 75% at 550 nm for a thickness of about 20 μm and good thermal properties such as thermal decomposition temperatures (T10%) in the range of 409–521 °C. In addition, the PIs have extraordinarily excellent optical properties in refractive index and birefringence as originally designed. In particular, the PI derived from APSEDTT and 3SDEA showed a high refractive index (1.7586), and a low birefringence (0.0087) because of their very high sulfur content (27.7%). © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel bis(ether anhydride) monomer, 2′,5′‐bis(3,4‐dicarboxyphenoxy)‐p‐terphenyl dianhydride, was synthesized from the nitro displacement of 4‐nitrophthalonitrile by the phenoxide ion of 2′,5′‐dihydroxy‐p‐terphenyl, followed by alkaline hydrolysis of the intermediate bis(ether dinitrile) and cyclodehydration of the resulting bis(ether diacid). A series of new poly(ether imide)s bearing laterally attached p‐terphenyl groups were prepared from the bis(ether anhydride) with various aromatic diamines via a conventional two‐stage process that included ring‐opening polyaddition to form the poly(amic acid)s followed by thermal or chemical imidization to the poly(ether imide)s. The inherent viscosities of the poly(amic acid) precursors were in the range of 0.62–1.26 dL/g. Most of the poly(ether imide)s obtained from both routes were soluble in polar organic solvents, such as N,N‐dimethylacetamide. All the poly(ether imide)s could afford transparent, flexible, and strong films with high tensile strengths. The glass‐transition temperatures of these poly(ether imide)s were recorded as between 214 and 276 °C by DSC. The softening temperatures of all the poly(ether imide) films stayed in the 207–265 °C range according to thermomechanical analysis. For all the polymers significant decomposition did not occur below 500 °C in nitrogen or air atmosphere. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 1008–1017, 2004 相似文献

A new aromatic, unsymmetrical ether diamine with a trifluoromethyl pendent group, 1,4‐(2′‐trifluoromethyl‐4′,4″‐diaminodiphenoxy)benzene, was successfully synthesized in three steps with hydroquinone as a starting material and polymerized with various aromatic tetracarboxylic acid dianhydrides, including 4,4′‐oxydiphthalic anhydride, 3,3′,4,4′‐benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride, 2,2′‐bis(3,4‐dicarboxyphenyl)‐hexafluoropropane dianhydride, and pyromellitic dianhydride, via a conventional two‐step thermal or chemical imidization method to produce a series of fluorinated polyimides. The polyimides were characterized with solubility tests, viscosity measurements, IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction studies, and thermogravimetric analysis. The polyimides had inherent viscosities of 0.56–0.77 dL/g and were easily dissolved in both polar, aprotic solvents and common, low‐boiling‐point solvents. The resulting strong and flexible polyimide films exhibited excellent thermal stability, with decomposition temperatures (at 5% weight loss) above 522 °C and glass‐transition temperatures in the range of 232–272 °C. Moreover, the polymer films showed outstanding mechanical properties, with tensile strengths of 74.5–121.7 MPa, elongations at break of 6–13%, and initial moduli of 1.46–1.95 GPa, and good dielectric properties, with low dielectric constants of 1.82–2.53 at 10 MHz. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction measurements revealed that these polyimides were predominantly amorphous. These outstanding combined features ensure that the polymers are desirable candidate materials for advanced microelectronic applications. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel dianhydride monomer, 3,6‐di[3′,5′‐bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]pyromellitic dianhydride (12FPMDA), was synthesized via a three‐step process: (1) the preparation of 3,5‐bis(trifluoromethyl)benzene boronic acid (6FBB) and 3,6‐dibromo‐1,2,4,5‐tetramethylbenzene (2B4MB) via Grignard and bromination reactions, respectively; (2) the Suzuki cross‐coupling reaction of 6FBB and 2B4MB, resulting in 3,6‐di[3′,5′‐bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]tetramethylbenzene (12F4MB); and (3) the oxidation and cyclodehydration of 12F4MB to afford 12FPMDA. 12FPMDA was then characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), 1H NMR, 19F NMR, elemental analysis, and a melting‐point apparatus, and it was used to prepare polyimides with aromatic diamines such as 1,1‐bis(4‐aminophenyl)‐2,2,2‐trifluoroethane and 4,4′‐diaminodiphenylether. Polyimides were synthesized via a two‐step process: (1) the preparation of poly(amic acid) in p‐chlorophenol with isoquinoline and (2) solution imidization at the reflux temperature for 12 h. They were designed to have molecular weights of 20,000 g/mol via off‐stoichiometry. The resulting polyimides were characterized by FTIR, NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis, and their solubility, solution viscosity, water absorption, coefficients of thermal expansion (CTEs), and dielectric constants were also evaluated. The polyimides exhibited excellent solubility even in acetone and toluene, high glass‐transition temperatures (>311 °C), good thermal stability (>518 °C in air), and well‐controlled molecular weights (19,000–21,000 g/mol). They also provided low CTEs (35–50 ppm/°C), water absorption (1.26–1.35 wt %), and dielectric constants (2.49–2.52). © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A diamine monomer II , 2,5‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)biphenyl, was prepared through a nucleophilic substitution reaction of phenylhydroquinone and p‐chloronitrobenzene in the presence of potassium carbonate in N,N‐dimethylformamide, followed by catalytic reduction with hydrazine and Pd/C. A series of all‐aromatic, organosoluble polyimides bearing pendent phenyl groups were synthesized from the diamine with six kinds of commercial dianhydrides via a conventional two‐stage process. For improving solubility of polypyromellitimide, copolypyromellitimides with arbitrary solubilities were prepared from II and a pair of dianhydrides, which were mixed at certain molar ratios. These polymers showed good solubilities in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone and m‐cresol. The softening temperatures of these polyimides were recorded between 206 and 269 °C. Polymers had glass‐transition temperatures at 230–286 °C and 10% weight‐loss temperatures above 521 °C in air or nitrogen atmospheres. Their films had high tensile moduli and strengths. Excellent properties of these polyimides are attributed to the incorporation of the pendent phenyl group in diamine II . © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A highly refractive and transparent aromatic polyimide (PI) containing a selenophene unit has been developed. The PI was prepared by a two‐step polycondensation procedure from 2,5‐bis(4‐aminophenylenesulfanyl)selenophene (APSP) and 4,4′‐[p‐thiobis(phenylenesulfanyl)]diphthalic anhydride (3SDEA), and shows high thermal stabilities, such as a relatively high‐glass transition temperature of 189 °C and 5% weight loss temperature (T5%) of 418 °C. The optical transmittance of the PI film at 450 nm is higher than 50%. The selenophene unit provides the PI with a refractive index of 1.7594, which is higher than corresponding PIs containing a thiophene or a phenyl unit because of the high polarizability per unit volume of the selenium atom. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new perfluorodecylthio substituted aromatic diamines, namely 2,4‐diamino‐1‐(1H,1H,2H,2H‐perfluorodecathio)benzene (DAPFB) and 2,2'‐Bis((1H,1H,2H,2H‐perfluorodecyl)thio)[1,1'‐biphenyl]4,4'‐diamine (BPFBD) were synthesized and polycondensed with 4,4′‐(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) to produce two new perfluorinated polyimides (PI2 and PI4). The chemical structures of these polyimides were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Two other polyimides (PI1 and PI3) were also synthesized from 6FDA and analogous perfluorodecylthio unsubstituted diamines to investigate the incorporation effect of perfluorodecylthio group on various physical and chemical properties of the synthesized PIs. Compared with PI1 and PI3, PI2 and PI4 exhibited improved solubility, optical transparency, and hydrophobicity, lower moisture absorption, dielectric constant, and thermo‐mechanical stabilities owing to the presence of the perfluorodecylthio side group in the polymer chain. Even though thermo‐mechanical properties of PI2 and PI4 ( : 413 and 404 °C, Tg: 220 and 209 °C, tensile strength of 101 and 76 MPa, tensile modulus of 1.7 and 1.5 GPa and elongation at break of 8 and 10%, respectively) were reduced in comparison to PI1 and PI3 but still were good enough for most of the practical applications. Most importantly, the presence of the perfluorodecylthio side group in BPFBD considerably reduced the dielectric constant of PI4 to 2.71 which was quite low as aromatic polyimide. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New phenolic hydroxyl‐pendant aromatic polyimides were synthesized with the N‐silylated diamine method in two steps: the ring‐opening polyaddition of tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)‐substituted 4,4′‐diamino‐3,3′‐dihydroxybiphenyl to various aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides, giving trimethylsiloxy‐pendant poly(amic acid) trimethylsilyl esters, and thermal imidization. The hydroxyl‐bearing polyimides were amorphous but insoluble in organic solvents. They had glass‐transition temperatures greater than 370 °C and temperatures of 10% weight loss greater than 415 °C in nitrogen. A series of novel polyimides (PIs) ( 3a–d ) were prepared from 3,3′,5,5′‐tetramethyl‐4,4′‐diaminodiphenyl‐4 ″ ‐isopropyltoluene ( 1 ) with four aromatic dianhydrides via a one‐step high temperature polycondensation procedure. The obtained PIs showed excellent solubility, with most of them dissoluble at a concentration of 10 wt % in amide polar solvents and chlorinated solvents. Their films were nearly colorless and exhibited high‐optical transparency, with the UV cutoff wavelength in the range of 328–353 nm and the transparency at 450 nm >80%. They also showed low‐dielectric constant (2.49–2.94 at 1 MHz) and low‐water absorptions (0.44–0.65%). Moreover, these PIs possessed high‐glass transition temperatures (Tg) beyond 327 °C and excellent thermal stability with 10% weight loss temperatures in the range of 530–555 °C in nitrogen atmosphere. A novel diamine, bis(3‐aminophenyl)‐4‐(1‐adamantyl)phenoxyphenyl phosphine oxide (mDAATPPO), was synthesized via the Williamson ether reaction of 4‐(1‐adamantyl)phenol and bis(3‐nitrophenyl)‐4‐fluorophenyl phosphine oxide, followed by reduction. The phenol group was prepared by the Friedel–Crafts reaction of 1‐bromoadamantane and phenol, whereas the phosphine oxide group was synthesized by the Grignard reaction of 1‐bromo‐4‐fluorobezene and diphenyl phosphinic chloride, followed by nitration. The monomer and its intermediate compounds were characterized with Fourier transform infrared, NMR, and melting‐point apparatus. The monomer was then used to prepare polyimides with 2,2‐bis(3,4‐dicarboxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane dianhydride, 3,3′,4,4′‐benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride, 4,4′‐oxydiphthalic dianhydride, and pyromellitic dianhydride by the conventional two‐step synthesis: the preparation of poly(amic acid) followed by solution imidization. The molecular weights of the polyimides were controlled to 20,000 g/mol by off‐stoichiometry, and the synthesized polyimides were characterized with Fourier transform infrared, NMR, gel permeation chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. In addition, the solubility, intrinsic viscosity, dielectric constant, and birefringence of the polyimides were evaluated. Novel polyimides with mDAATPPO exhibited good solubility, high glass‐transition temperatures (290–330 °C), excellent thermal stability (>500 °C), low dielectric constants (2.77–3.01), low refractive indices, and low birefringence values (0.0019–0.0030). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel fluorinated diamine monomer, 1,4‐bis(4‐amino‐2‐trifluoromethylphenoxy)‐2,5‐di‐tert‐butylbenzene ( 2 ), was prepared through the nucleophilic substitution reaction of 2‐chloro‐5‐nitrobenzotrifluoride and 2,5‐di‐tert‐butylhydroquinone in the presence of potassium carbonate, followed by catalytic reduction with hydrazine and Pd/C. Fluorinated polyimides ( 5a – 5f ) were synthesized from diamine 2 and various aromatic dianhydrides ( 3a – 3f ) via thermal or chemical imidization. These polymers had inherent viscosities of 0.77–1.01 dL/g. The 5 series polyimides were soluble in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, and N,N‐dimethylformamide and were even soluble in dioxane, tetrahydrofuran, and dichloromethane. 5 (C) showed cutoff wavelengths between 363 and 404 nm and yellowness index (b*) values of 6.5–40.2. The polyimide films had tensile strengths of 93–114 MPa, elongations to break of 9–12%, and initial moduli of 1.7–2.1 GPa. The glass‐transition temperatures were 255–288 °C. Two series of fluorinated polyimides were prepared from 2,2′‐bis(4‐amino‐2‐trifluoromethylphenoxy)biphenyl ( 2 ) and 2,2′‐bis(4‐amino‐2‐trifluoromethylphenoxy)‐1,1′‐binaphthyl ( 4 ) with various aromatic dianhydrides via a conventional, two‐step procedure that included a ring‐opening polyaddition to give poly(amic acid)s, followed by chemical or thermal cyclodehydration. The inherent viscosities of the polyimides ranged from 0.54 to 0.73 and 0.19 to 0.36 dL/g, respectively. All the fluorinated polyimides were soluble in many polar organic solvents, such as N,N‐dimethylacetamide and N‐methylpyrrolidone, and afforded transparent and light‐colored films via solution‐casting. These polyimides showed glass‐transition temperatures in the ranges of 222–280 and 257–351 °C by DSC, softening temperatures in the range of 264–301 °C by thermomechanical analysis, and a decomposition temperature for 10% weight loss above 520 °C both in nitrogen and air atmospheres. The polyimides had low moisture absorptions of 0.23–0.58%, low dielectric constants of 2.84–3.61 at 10 kHz, and an ultraviolet–visible absorption cutoff wavelength at 351–434 nm. Improved reaction conditions for the preparation of poly(p‐phenylene sulfide) (PPS) directly from bis(4‐bromophenyl) disulfide (BBD) have been established. Heating BBD with magnesium metal afforded only a low molecular weight polymer. PPS with a melting temperature around 280 °C was obtained from BBD in the presence of sodium carbonate or zinc metal. The best results were obtained with the addition of a catalytic amount of KI to the zinc–BBD mixture. Polymers prepared by the above methods are semicrystalline and dissolve in 1‐chloronaphthalene and have properties comparable to commercial PPS. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work reports the synthesis and characterization of diamantane‐based polyimides obtained from 4,9‐bis[4(3,4‐dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]diamantane dianhydride and various aromatic diamines. Interestingly, the diamantane‐based polyimides were very stable to hydrolysis. This novel polyimide exhibits a low dielectric constant (2.65–2.77), low moisture absorption (<0.67%), good solubility, high Tg and unusually high thermal stability. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) reveals that the diamantane‐based polyimides have high Tg ranging from 281 to 379 °C. The high‐temperature β1 subglass transition around 285 °C was observed in polyimide 6a derived from 2,2′‐bis(trifluoromethyl)benzidine. This class of novel diamantane‐based polyimide is very promising for electronic applications, because of its good mechanical properties, good thermal stability, low dielectric constant, excellent hydrolytic resistance, and low moisture absorption. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two novel phosphorus‐functionalized aromatic diamines, 1,1‐bis(4‐aminophenyl)‐1‐(6‐oxido‐6H‐dibenz <c,e> <1,2> oxaphosphorin‐6‐yl)ethane ( 1 ) and bis(4‐aminophenyl)‐(6‐oxido‐6H‐dibenz <c,e> <1,2> oxaphosphorin‐6‐yl)phenylmethane ( 2 ), were prepared from 9,10‐dihydro‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide, 4‐aminoacetophenone, or 4‐aminobenzophenone in excess aniline using p‐toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate as catalyst by an efficient, one‐pot procedure. The effect of electron withdrawing/donating groups on the stabilization of the resulting carbocation seems critical for the success of the process and was discussed in detail. Based on diamines ( 1–2 ), a series of new polyimides, (5a–5d) and (6a–6d) , were prepared, respectively. Polyimides (5a–5d) are flexible and creasable. In contrast, polyimides (6a–6d) are brittle because of the structure rigidity, according to the analysis based on the NMR temperature‐dependent spectra of ( 2 ). Polyimides 5 displaying high Tg (318–392 °C), high moduli (3.39–4.49 GPa), low coefficient of thermal expansion (42–50 ppm/°C), and moderate thermal stability (Td 5 wt % at 426–439 °C), are excellent high‐Tg and flame‐retardant materials. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
