Novel blue‐emitting germanium‐containing poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) (PPV) derivatives with well‐defined conjugation lengths were synthesized via Wittig‐condensation polymerizations. The polymers can be color‐tuned by the introduction of various chromophores into the PPV‐based polymer backbones. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the polymers, GePVK (containing carbazole moieties), GeMEH (containing dialkoxybenzene moieties), and GePTH (containing phenothiazine moieties), were found to exhibit blue, greenish blue, and green emissions, respectively. GePTH produces more red‐shifted emission than GeMEH and GEPVK, resulting in green emission, and the solution and solid state PL spectra of GePVK consist of almost blue emission. The electroluminescence spectra of GeMEH and GePTH contain yellowy green and yellow colors, respectively. Interestingly, GePVK exhibits white emission with CIE coordinates of (0.33, 0.37) due to electroplex emission in the light‐emitting diodes. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new soluble alternating carbazolevinylene‐based polymers POXD and PTPA as well as the corresponding model compounds MOXD and MTPA were synthesized by Heck coupling. POXD and MOXD contained 2,5‐diphenyloxadiazole segments, while PTPA and MTPA contained triphenylamine segments. All samples displayed high thermal stability. The polymers had higher glass transition temperature (Tg) than their corresponding model compounds. The samples showed absorption maximum at 364–403 nm with optical band gap of 2.62–2.82 eV. They emitted blue‐green light with photoluminescence (PL) emission maximum at 450–501 nm and PL quantum yields in THF solution of 0.15–0.36. The absorption and the PL emission maxima of PTPA and MTPA were blue‐shifted as compared to those of POXD and MOXD . The electroluminescence (EL) spectra of multilayered devices made using four materials exhibited bluish green emissions, which is well consistent with PL spectra. The EL devices made using poly(vinyl carbazole) doped with MOXD and MTPA as emitting materials showed luminances of 12.1 and 4.8 cd m?2. POXD and PTPA exhibited 25.4, and 96.3 cd m?2, respectively. The polymer containing the corresponding molecules in the repeating group showed much higher device performances. Additionally, POXD and MOXD exhibited better stability of external quantum efficiency (EQE) and luminous efficiency with current density resulting from enhancing the electron transporting properties. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New polyethers ( P2 , P4 ) with isolated emitting distyrylbenzene derivatives and pendant aromatic 1,3,4‐oxadiazole chromophores have been prepared by the Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons olefination reaction. Polyethers P1 and P3 without oxadiazole groups have also been synthesized for comparison. The reduced viscosities were about 0.20–0.33 dL/g, and the solubility in organic solvents increased with a number of side methoxy or ethoxy substituents in the distyrylbenzene section. Absorption spectra showed two peaks at 371–388 and 304 nm that corresponded to the π‐π* transition of the conjugated distyrylbenzene derivatives and aromatic oxadiazoles, respectively. The band gaps were at 2.76–2.85 eV, which were calculated from onset absorption in the film state. The photoluminescence (PL) maxima were at 459–469 nm, indicating that they are blue‐emitting materials, and the relative PL quantum efficiencies were 0.62–0.77 and 0.23–0.40 in solution and the film state, respectively. Cyclic voltammetric investigations demonstrated that oxadiazole moieties decrease the barrier of electron injection but also retard hole injection. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. New poly(phenylene vinylene) derivatives with a 5‐diphenylamino‐1,3‐phenylene linkage (including polymers 2 , 3 , and 5 ) have been synthesized to improve the charge‐injection properties. These polymers are highly photoluminescent with fluorescent quantum yields as high as 76% in tetrahydrofuran solutions. With effective π‐conjugation interruption at adjacent m‐phenylene units, chromophores of different conjugation lengths can be incorporated into the polymer chain in a controllable manner. In polymer 2 , the structural regularity leads to an isolated, well‐defined emitting chromophore. Isomeric polymer 3 of a random chain sequence, however, allows the effective emitting chromophores to be joined in sequence by sharing a common m‐phenylene linkage (as shown in a molecular fragment). Double‐layer light‐emitting‐diode devices using 2 , 3 , and 5 as emitting layers have turn‐on voltages of about 3.5 V and produce blue‐green emissions with peaks at 493, 492, and 482 nm and external quantum efficiencies up to 1.42, 0.98, and 1.53%, respectively. In comparison with a light‐emitting diode using 2 , a device using 3 shows improved charge injection and displays increased brightness by a factor of ~3 to 1400 cd/m2 at an 8‐V bias. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Fluorene-based alternating and statistical copolymers were synthesized by employing reaction methods of Wittig,Heck and Suzuki. The copolymers were classified into three groups with the photoluminescence (PL) emission maxima at420, 475 and 500 nm, respectively. Statistical copolymers with two chromophores having PL emission maxima at 420 and475 nm emitted light with the emission maximum at 475 nm on photoexcitation at 365 nm and improved the quantumefficiency by the energy transfer. However, the intramolecular energy transfer was inefficient compared to the intermolecularenergy transfer when the two chromophores were apart from each other in the range of the Forster critical distance. Fluorene-pyridinedivinylene alternating copolymer was synthesized by the Wittig reaction and found to have physical, electronic andelectrochemical properties of the individual units intact. The double-layered light emitting diode (LED) with the statisticalcopolymer as an emitting layer and the pyridine-containing copolymer as an electron transporting-hole blocking layer, whichwere sandwiched between ITO and Al, displayed a quantum efficiency of 0.1%.  相似文献

Poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐vinylene‐alt‐dibenzothiophene‐2,8‐vinylene) (PS) and poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐vinylene‐alt‐dibenzothiophene‐5,5‐dioxide‐2,8‐ vinylene) (PSO) as well as corresponding model compounds were synthesized by Heck coupling. Both the polymers and model compounds were readily soluble in common organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran, dichloromethane, chloroform, and toluene. The polymers showed a decomposition temperature at ~430 °C and a char yield of about 65% at 800 °C in N2. The glass‐transition temperatures of the polymers were almost identical (75–77 °C) and higher than those of the model compounds (26–45 °C). All samples absorbed around 390 nm, and their optical band gaps were 2.69–2.85 eV. They behaved as blue‐greenish light emitting materials in both solutions and thin films, with photoluminescence emission maxima at 450–483 nm and photoluminescence quantum yields of 0.52–0.72 in solution. Organic light‐emitting diodes with an indium tin oxide/poly(ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonic acid)/polymer/Mg:Ag/Ag configuration with polymers PS and PSO as emitting layers showed green electroluminescence with maxima at 530 and 540 nm, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In an effort to decrease the electron‐injection barrier from the anode electrode, four copoly(aryl ether)s ( P1 – P4 ), consisting of alternating isolated electron‐transporting [2,5‐diphenyl‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole for P1 and P3 and 5,5′‐diphenyl‐2,2′‐p‐(2,5‐bishexyloxyphenylene)‐bis‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole for P2 and P4 ] and emitting chromophores (1,4‐distyryl‐2,5‐dihexyloxybenzene for P1 and P2 and 1,4‐distyryl‐2,5‐dihexylbenzene for P3 and P4 ), have been synthesized by the nucleophilic displacement reaction between bisfluoride and bisphenol monomers. They are basically amorphous materials with 5% weight‐loss temperature above 400 °C. The photoluminescence spectra and quantum yields of these copolymers are dependent on the compositions of the two isolated fluorophores. The highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy levels of these copolymers have been estimated from their cyclic voltammograms. All the observations directly prove that the oxidation starts at the hole‐transporting segments. The electron affinity can be enhanced by the introduction of isolated electron‐transporting segments that lead to a charge‐injection balance. Single‐layer light‐emitting diodes (Al/ P1 – P4 /ITO glass) have been fabricated. P1 and P2 reveal blue electroluminescence, and P3 and P4 reveal purple‐blue electroluminescence. Moreover, the incorporation of bisoxadiazole units increases the electron affinity and reduces the turn‐on electric field better than one oxadiazole unit. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An indenofluorene‐based copolymer containing blue‐, green‐, and red light‐emitting moieties was synthesized by Suzuki polymerization and examined for application in white organic light‐emitting diodes (WOLEDs). Tetraoctylindenofluorene (IF), 2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (BT), and 4,7‐bis(2‐thienyl)‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (DBT) derivatives were used as the blue‐, green‐, and red‐light emitting structures, respectively. The number‐average molecular weight of the polymer was determined to be 25,900 g/mol with a polydispersity index of 2.02. The polymer was thermally stable (Td = ~398 °C) and quite soluble in common organic solvents, forming an optical‐quality film by spin casting. The EL characteristics were fine‐tuned from the single copolymer through incomplete fluorescence energy transfer by adjusting the composition of the red/green/blue units in the copolymer. The EL device using the indenofluorene‐based copolymer containing 0.01 mol % BT and 0.02 mol % DBT units ( PIF‐BT01‐DBT02 ) showed a maximum brightness of 4088 cd/m2 at 8 V and a maximum current efficiency of 0.36 cd/A with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.34, 0.32). The EL emission of PIF‐BT01‐DBT02 was stable with respect to changes in voltage. The color emitted was dependent on the thickness of the active polymer layer; layer (~60 nm) too thin was unsuitable for realizing WOLED via energy transfer. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Three new poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) derivatives—PO, POD, and POP—with oxadiazole and pyridine rings along the main chain were synthesized via Heck coupling. The polymers were amorphous and dissolved readily in common organic solvents. They showed relatively low glass‐transition temperatures (up to 42 °C) and satisfactory thermal stability. Solutions of the polymers emitted blue‐greenish light with photoluminescence (PL) emission maxima around 460 nm and PL quantum yields of 0.28–0.49. Thin films of the polymers displayed PL emission maxima at 461–521 nm, and their tendency to form aggregates was significantly influenced by the chemical structure. Light‐emitting diodes with polymers PO and POP, with an indium tin oxide/poly(ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT)/polymer/Ca configuration, emitted yellow and green light, respectively, and this could be attributed to excimer emission. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article describes the synthesis and characterization of a new ladder‐type poly (p‐phenylene) (LPFC) containing alkylcarbazole and dialkylfluorene units in backbone, and its optical and electrochemical properties as well as its light‐emitting device performance. LPFC shows the well‐defined structure, high molecular weights, excellent thermal stability, and good solubility in common organic solvents. And it also shows strongly blue emission (λmax = 465 nm) with quantum efficiency of 70% in solution, while its solid emission (λmax = 470 nm) is almost the same as its solution. Electrochemical studies show that the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy levels of LPFC is up to 5.29 eV, which is significantly higher than that of LPPP without carbazole in backbone, indicating an enhanced ability of hole injection from anodes. Furthermore, the single layer light‐emitting device using LPFC as the active layer shows blue emission (λmax = 470 nm) with maximum luminescence of ~ 2000 cd/m2 and maximum luminance efficiency of 0.43 cd/A. The attractive properties exhibited from new ladder‐type polymer establish LPFC as a good candidate for the potential application as transporting and emitting layer in polymeric light emitting diodes. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. As one of the most popular nanocrystals (NCs), aqueous CdTe NCs have very weak green emission under conventional synthesis conditions. In this work, we report the first example of blue‐emitting CdTe NCs directly synthesized in aqueous solution by slowing down the growth rate after nucleation. The key for the synthesis is the optimization of NC growth conditions, namely pH range of 7.5 to 8.5, TGA/Cd ratio of 3.6, Cd/Te ratio of 10, and Te concentration of 2×10?5 mol/L, to get a slow growth rate after nucleation. The as‐prepared blue‐emitting CdTe NCs have small size (as small as 1.9 nm) and bright emission [with 4% photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY) at 486 nm and 17% PLQY at 500 nm]. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images of the as‐prepared CdTe show monodispersed NCs which exhibit cubic zinc blend structure. Moreover, time‐resolved PL decay and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results show the as‐prepared NCs have better surface modification by ligand, which makes these luminescent small CdTe NCs have higher photoluminescence quantum yield, compared with NCs synthesized under conventional conditions.  相似文献

Two series of new copolyfluorenes ( PFTP, PFTT ) were prepared by the Suzuki coupling reaction from two green‐emitting dibromo monomers (TP‐Br, TT‐Br) based on triphenylamine unit to be applied in white light electroluminescent devices. They were characterized by molecular weight determination, elemental analysis, DSC, TGA, absorption and photoluminescence spectra, and cyclic voltammetry. The estimated actual contents of the TP and TT chromophores were lower than 7.8 mol % and 1.9 mol % for PFTP and PFTT , respectively. In film state both copolyfluorenes showed photoluminescence at 400–470 and 470–600 nm originated from fluorene segments and the chromophores, respectively, due to incomplete energy transfer. Light‐emitting diodes with a structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/copolymer/Ca(50 nm)/Al(100 nm) showed major emission at 493–525 nm, plus minor emission at 400–470 nm when chromophore contents were low. The maximum brightness and maximum current efficiency of PFTP2 device were 8370 cd/m2 and 1.47 cd/A, whereas those of PFTT1 device were 9440 cd/m2 and 1.77 cd/A, respectively. Tri‐wavelength white‐light emission was realized through blending PFTT1 with poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene) and a red‐emitting iridium complex, in which the maximum brightness and CIE coordinates were 6880 cd/m2 and (0.31, 0.33), respectively. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Rigid polymer backbones have often been considered to be detrimental to the packing of mesogenic pendants, and polyacetylenes have generally been regarded as unpromising materials for light‐emitting applications. Our group, however, has succeeded in creating a series of liquid‐crystalline polyacetylenes with rigid backbones and a variety of light‐emitting polyacetylenes with luminescent chromophores. Here we demonstrate that the rigid polyacetylene skeleton can play a constructive role in guiding the alignments of mesogenic pendants and prove that polyacetylenes can be highly emissive with photoluminescence quantum yields of up to 98% and electroluminescence performances comparable or superior to those of the best blue‐light‐emitting polymers. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of fluorene‐based copolymers composed of blue‐ and orange‐light‐emitting comonomers were synthesized through palladium‐catalyzed Suzuki coupling reactions. 9,9‐Dihexylfluorene and 2‐(2,6‐bis‐{2‐[1‐(9,9‐dihexyl‐9H‐fluoren‐2‐yl)‐1,2,3,4‐tetrahydroquinolin‐6‐yl]‐vinyl}‐pyran‐4‐ylidene)‐malononitrile (DCMF) were used as the blue‐ and orange‐light‐emitting chromophores, respectively. The resulting single polymers exhibited simultaneous blue (423/450 nm) and orange (580–600 nm) emissions from these two chromophores. By adjusting the fluorene and DCMF contents, white light emission could be obtained from a single polymer; a device with an ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca/Al configuration was found to exhibit pure white electroluminescence with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.33, 0.31), a maximum brightness of 1180 cd/m2, and a current efficiency of 0.60 cd/A. Furthermore, the white light emission of this device was found to be very stable with respect to variation of the driving voltage. The CIE coordinates of the device were (0.32, 0.29), (0.32, 0.29), and (0.33, 0.31) for driving voltages of 7, 8, and 10 V, respectively. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Low cost, simple, and environmentally friendly strategies for white‐light generation which do not require rare‐earth phosphors or other toxic or elementally scare species remain an essentially unmet challenge. Progress in the area of all‐organic approaches is highly sought, single molecular systems remaining a particular challenge. Taking inspiration from the designer nature of ionic‐liquid chemistry, we now introduce a new strategy toward white‐light emission based on the facile generation of nanoparticles comprising three different fluorophores assembled in a well‐defined stoichiometry purely through electrostatic interactions. The building blocks consist of the fluorophores aminopyrene, fluorescein, and rhodamine 6G which represent blue, green, and red‐emitting species, respectively. Spherical nanoparticles 16(±5) nm in size were prepared which display bright white‐light emission with high fluorescence quantum efficiency (26 %) and color coordinate at (0.29, 0.38) which lie in close proximity to pure white light (0.33, 0.33). It is noteworthy that this same fluorophore mixture in free solution yields only blue emission. Density functional theory calculations reveal H‐bond and ground‐state proton transfer mediated absolute non‐parallel orientation of the constituent units which result in frustrated energy transfer, giving rise to emission from the individual centers and concomitant white‐light emission.  相似文献

Alternating copolymerization of 9,9‐bis(3,6,9‐trioxadecyl)‐2,7‐dibromofluorene (ODFl) or 9,9‐bis(3,6‐dioxaheptyl)‐2,7‐dibromofluorene with Si containing divinyl compounds, divinyldiphenylsilane (VPS), or divinyldimethylsilane (VMS) is investigated using the Mizoroki–Heck reaction with palladium(II) acetate. The corresponding alternating copolymer is obtained in the copolymerization of ODFl with VPS. The copolymerization of ODFl with VMS yields low molecular weight oligomers. Optical properties of the ODFl–VPS copolymer have been investigated with UV–vis absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The ODFl–VPS copolymer shows absorption peaks due to π–π* transition and intramolecular charge transfer through σ–π moiety at around 330 and 360–400 nm, respectively. An emission peak is observed at 450 nm in the PL spectrum of the ODFl–VPS copolymer, and the PL quantum yield is 0.19. The PL spectroscopy of ODFl–VPS copolymer is investigated in the presence of Li+, Na+, and K+, and the intensity of emission peak is decreased by those metal cations, especially by Na+. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four copolyfluorenes chemically doped with 0.1 and 1 mol % 3,7‐bis[2‐thiophene‐2‐yl)‐2‐cyanovinyl]phenothiazine ( PFPhT ) or 2,5‐bis[2‐(thiophene‐2‐yl)‐2‐cyanovinyl]thiophene chromophores ( PFThT ) were synthesized using the Suzuki coupling reaction and applied in white‐light‐emitting devices. They were characterized by GPC, elemental analysis, DSC, TGA, optical spectra, and cyclic voltammetry. They exhibited good thermal stability (Td > 420 °C) and moderate glass transition temperatures (>95 °C). The PhT‐Br and ThT‐Br showed PL peaks at 586 and 522 nm (with a shoulder at 550 nm). In film state, PL spectra of the copolymers comprised emissions from the fluorene segments and the chromophores due to incomplete energy transfer. Both monomers exhibited low LUMO levels around ?3.50 to ?3.59 eV, whereas the PhT‐Br owned the higher HOMO level (?5.16 eV) due to its electron‐donating phenothiazine core. Light‐emitting diodes with a structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/copolymer/Ca(50 nm)/Al(100 nm) showed broad emission depending on the chromophore contents. The maximum brightness and maximum current efficiency of PFPhT2 ( PFThT1 ) device were 8690 cd/m2 and 1.43 cd/A (7060 cd/m2 and 0.98 cd/A), respectively. White‐light emission was realized by further blending PFPhT2 with poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene) (w/w = 10/1), with the maximum brightness and maximum current efficiency being 10,600 cd/m2 and 1.85 cd/A. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of polyamido amine (PAMAM) dendrimers (Generations 2, 3, 4, and 6) fully functionalized at their periphery with first‐ and second‐generation poly (phenylenevinylene) (PPV) dendrons have been efficiently prepared. MALDI‐TOF mass spectrometry proved to be particularly useful for the characterization of the new hybrid dendrimers as well as for the estimation of the average number of PPV dendrons attached to the surface. The optical absorption and emission properties of these systems were studied. The materials display extremely high molar extinction coefficients and emit blue light with only slightly lower fluorescence quantum yields than the corresponding free dendrons. Self‐quenching interactions between PPV units were not observed in THF. However, the luminescence properties underwent a dramatic change when toluene was used as the solvent. The lower polarity of toluene caused shrinkage of the PAMAM structure and brought the PPV chromophores closer together, leading to self‐quenching interactions and excimer formation. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We have synthesized a novel wide band gap polymer P36HCTPSi derived from 3,6‐carbazole and tetraphenylsilane by palladium‐catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction. The resultant polymer shows a high glass transition temperature (217 °C) and good thermal stability. The conjugation length of P36HCTPSi is effectively confined because of the δ‐Si interrupted polymer backbone. The polymer exhibits a violet emission with a peak at 392 nm in solution, and the band gap estimated from the onset of its absorption is 3.26 eV. The high energy emission and wide band gap of P36HCTPSi make it appropriate host for green and blue emission phosphorescent materials. Efficient energy transfers from P36HCTPSi to both fac‐tris[2‐(2‐pyridyl‐kN)‐5‐methylphenyl]iridium(III) (green emission) and bis[(4,6‐difluorophenyl)pyridinato‐N,C2]‐(picolinato)iridium(III) (blue emission) were observed in photoluminescence (PL) spectra. Highly efficient phosphorescent polymer light‐emitting devices were realized by using P36HCTPSi as the host for iridium complexes, the maximum luminous efficiencies for green and blue devices were 27.6 and 3.4 cd/A, respectively. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new poly(p‐phenylene vinylene) derivatives OX1‐PPV and OX2‐PPV bearing two 1,3,4‐oxadiazole rings per repeat unit and a fully conjugated backbone with solubilizing dodecyloxy side groups were synthesized and investigated. The amorphous conjugated polymers had glass‐transition temperature values of 60–75 °C and emitted intense blue or greenish‐blue light in solution with photoluminescence (PL) emission maxima at 379–492 nm and PL quantum yields of 0.41–0.52. In the solid state they emitted yellowish‐green light with PL emission maxima at 533–555 nm. Cyclic voltammetry showed that both conjugated polymers had reversible reduction and irreversible oxidation, making them n‐type materials. The electron affinity of OX2‐PPV was estimated as 2.85 eV whereas that of OX1‐PPV was 2.75 eV. Yellow electroluminescence (EL) was achieved from single‐layer light‐emitting diodes of OX2‐PPV with an EL emission maximum at 555 nm and a brightness of 70 cd/m2. Polymer OX2‐PPV, which was functionalized with 2,6‐bis(1,3,4‐oxadiazole‐2‐yl)pyridine, demonstrated sensitivity to various metal ions as a fluorescence‐mode chemosensor. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
