Novel deep‐red emissive poly(2,6‐BODIPY‐ethynylene)s bearing dodecyl side chains (polymers A , B , and C ) have been prepared by palladium‐catalyzed Sonogashira polymerization of 2,6‐diiodo‐functionalized BODIPY monomers with 2,6‐diethynyl‐functionalized BODIPY monomers. These polymers emit in the deep‐red region with emission maxima at up to 690 nm, and exhibit significant red shifts (up to 166 and 179 nm) of both absorption and emission maxima compared with their parent BODIPY dyes due to significant extension of π‐conjugation. These polymers possess good thermal stability with decomposition temperature between 270 and 360 °C. The polymers exhibit a little larger Stokes shifts and shorter lifetime than their corresponding BODIPY dyes. The solid state thin films of polymers A , B , and C emit in near‐infrared region between 723 and 743 nm, and show significantly red shifts (up to 57 nm) in absorption and emission maxima relative to their polymer solution. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A method for the preparation of poly(aryl ether thianthrene)s has been developed in which the aryl ether linkage is generated in the polymer‐forming reaction. The thianthrene heterocycle is sufficiently electron‐withdrawing to allow fluoro displacement with phenoxides by nucleophilic aromatic substitution. The monomer for this reaction, 2,7‐difluorothianthrene, can be synthesized in a moderate yield by a simple reaction sequence. Semiempirical calculations at the PM3 level suggest that 2,7‐difluorothianthrene is sufficiently activated, whereas NMR spectroscopy (1H and 13C) indicates that the monomer is only slightly activated or (19F) not sufficiently activated for nucleophilic aromatic substitution. Model reactions with p‐cresol have demonstrated that the fluorine atoms on 2,7‐difluorothianthrene are readily displaced by phenoxides in high yields, and the process has been deemed suitable for polymer‐forming reactions. High‐molecular‐weight polymers have been produced from bisphenol A, bisphenol AF, and 4,4′‐biphenol. The polymers have been characterized with gel permeation chromatography, NMR spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry. The glass‐transition temperatures for the polymers of different compositions and molecular weights range from 138 to 181 °C, and all the polymers have shown high thermooxidative stability, with 5% weight loss values in an air environment approaching 500 °C. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel conjugated polymers containing 3,9‐ or 2,9‐linked carbazole units in the main chain were synthesized by the polycondensation of ethynyl‐ and iodo‐substituted 9‐arylenecarbazolylene monomers, and their optical and electrical properties were studied. Polymers with weight‐average molecular weights of 3400–12,000 were obtained in 76–99% yields by the Sonogashira coupling polycondensation in piperidine or tetrahydrofuran (THF)/piperidine at 30 °C for 48 h. All the 3,9‐linked polymers absorbed light around 300 nm. The para‐phenylene‐linked polymer also absorbed light around 350 nm, while meta‐phenylene‐linked one did not. The 3,9‐linked polymers absorbed light at a wavelength longer than the 2,9‐linked one. The polymers emitted blue fluorescence with high quantum yields (0.21–0.78) upon excitation at the absorption maxima. The polymers were oxidized around 0.6 V, and reduced around 0.5 V. Poly( 1 ) showed the dark conductivity of 3.7 × 10?11 S/cm (103 V/cm). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 3506–3517, 2009  相似文献

Novel liquid‐crystalline alternating conjugated copolymers [ P(P(6)CN‐alt‐Cz) and P(P(6)CN‐alt‐MeP) ] with phenylene and carbazolylene or phenylene with methyl substitution onto the main chain have been synthesized through palladium‐catalyzed Suzuki coupling reactions. The influence of the incorporation of carbazolylene and the substituted phenylene into the main chain on the thermal, mesomorphic, and luminescent properties has been investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, polarized optical microscopy, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL), and cyclic voltammetry. These polymers show highly thermal stability, losing little of their weights when heated to 360 °C. The conjugated copolymers exhibit liquid crystallinity at elevated temperature. The existence of the chromophoric terphenyl core endows the copolymers with high PL and the polymer P(P(6)CN‐alt‐Cz containing carbazolylene unit can emit more pure blue light. All the copolymer films with low band gaps about 2.3–2.4 eV undergo reversible oxidation and reduction processes, significantly lower than the band gap of poly(p‐phenylene). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two novel poly(p‐phenylene vinylene) polymers, which carried side substituents with cyano groups or 1,3,4‐oxadiazole, were synthesized by Heck coupling. They consisted of alternating conjugated segments and nonconjugated aliphatic spacers. The polymers had moderate molecular weights, were amorphous, and dissolved readily in tetrahydrofuran and halogenated organic solvents. They were stable up to approximately 340 °C in N2 and 290 °C in air, and the anaerobic char yield was around 60% at 800 °C. The polymer with cyano side groups emitted blue light in solutions and thin films with identical photoluminescence (PL) maximum at 450 nm; this supported the idea that chain interactions were hindered even in the solid state. The PL maximum of this polymer in thin films was blueshifted upon annealing at 120 °C, indicating a thermochromic effect as a result of conformational changes in the polymer backbone. The polymer containing side substituents with oxadiazole rings emitted blue light in solutions with a PL maximum at 474 nm and blue‐greenish light in thin films with a PL maximum at 511 nm. The PL quantum yields of the polymers in tetrahydrofuran were 0.13–0.24. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 1768–1778, 2004  相似文献

Two novel poly(amine‐hydrazide)s were prepared from the polycondensation reactions of the dicarboxylic acid, 9‐[N,N‐di(4‐carboxyphenyl)amino]anthracene ( 1 ), with terephthalic dihydrazide ( TPH ) and isophthalic dihydrazide ( IPH ) via the Yamazaki phosphorylation reaction, respectively. The poly(amine‐hydrazide)s were readily soluble in many common organic solvents and could be solution cast into transparent films. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) indicated that these hydrazide polymers had glass‐transition temperatures (Tg) in the range of 182–230 °C and could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding oxadiazole polymers in the range of 300–400 °C. The resulting poly(amine‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s had useful levels of thermal stability associated with high Tg (263–318 °C), 10% weight‐loss temperatures in excess of 500 °C, and char yield at 800 °C in nitrogen higher than 55%. These organo‐soluble anthrylamine‐based poly(amine‐hydrazide)s and poly (amine‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s exhibited maximum UV‐vis absorption at 346–349 and 379–388 nm in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) solution, respectively. Their photoluminescence spectra in NMP solution showed maximum bands around 490–497 nm in the green region. The poly(amine‐hydrazide) I ‐ IPH showed a green photoluminescence at 490 nm with PL quantum yield of 29.9% and 17.0% in NMP solution and film state, respectively. The anthrylamine‐based poly(amine‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s revealed a electrochromic characteristics with changing color from the pale yellow neutral form to the red reduced form when scanning potentials negatively from 0.00 to ?2.20 V. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Sodium salts of water‐soluble polymers poly{[2,5‐bis(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]‐alt‐[2,5‐bis(hexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} ( P1 ), poly{[2,5‐bis(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]‐alt‐[2,5‐bis(dodecyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} ( P2 ), poly{[2,5‐bis(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]‐alt‐[2,5‐bis(dibenzyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} ( P3 ), poly[2‐hexyloxy‐5‐(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene] ( P4 ), and poly[2‐dodecyloxy‐5‐(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene] ( P5 )] were synthesized with Suzuki coupling reactions and fully characterized. The first group of polymers ( P1 – P3 ) with symmetric structures gave lower absorption maxima [maximum absorption wavelength (λmax) = 296–305 nm] and emission maxima [maximum emission wavelength (λem) = 361–398 nm] than asymmetric polymers P4 (λmax = 329 nm, λem = 399 nm) and P5 (λmax = 335 nm, λem = 401 nm). The aggregation properties of polymers P1 – P5 in different solvent mixtures were investigated, and their influence on the optical properties was examined in detail. Dynamic light scattering studies of the aggregation behavior of polymer P1 in solvents indicated the presence of aggregated species of various sizes ranging from 80 to 800 nm. The presence of alkoxy groups and 3‐sulfonatopropoxy groups on adjacent phenylene rings along the polymer backbone of the first set hindered the optimization of nonpolar interactions. The alkyl chain crystallization on one side of the polymer chain and the polar interactions on the other side allowed the polymers ( P4 and P5 ) to form a lamellar structure in the polymer lattice. Significant quenching of the polymer fluorescence upon the addition of positively charged viologen derivatives or cytochrome‐C was also observed. The quenching effect on the polymer fluorescence confirmed that the newly synthesized polymers could be used in the fabrication of biological and chemical sensors. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐vinylene‐alt‐dibenzothiophene‐2,8‐vinylene) (PS) and poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐vinylene‐alt‐dibenzothiophene‐5,5‐dioxide‐2,8‐ vinylene) (PSO) as well as corresponding model compounds were synthesized by Heck coupling. Both the polymers and model compounds were readily soluble in common organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran, dichloromethane, chloroform, and toluene. The polymers showed a decomposition temperature at ~430 °C and a char yield of about 65% at 800 °C in N2. The glass‐transition temperatures of the polymers were almost identical (75–77 °C) and higher than those of the model compounds (26–45 °C). All samples absorbed around 390 nm, and their optical band gaps were 2.69–2.85 eV. They behaved as blue‐greenish light emitting materials in both solutions and thin films, with photoluminescence emission maxima at 450–483 nm and photoluminescence quantum yields of 0.52–0.72 in solution. Organic light‐emitting diodes with an indium tin oxide/poly(ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonic acid)/polymer/Mg:Ag/Ag configuration with polymers PS and PSO as emitting layers showed green electroluminescence with maxima at 530 and 540 nm, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly{bis(4,4′‐tert‐butyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine)–(2,2′‐bipyridine‐5,5′‐diyl‐[1,4‐phenylene])–ruthenium(II)bishexafluorophosphate} ( 3a ), poly{bis(4,4′‐tert‐butyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine)–(2,2′‐bipyridine‐4,4′‐diyl‐[1,4‐phenylene])–ruthenium(II)bishexafluorophosphate} ( 3b ), and poly{bis(2,2′‐bipyridine)–(2,2′‐bipyridine‐5,5′‐diyl‐[1,4‐phenylene])–ruthenium(II)bishexafluorophosphate} ( 3c ) were synthesized by the Suzuki coupling reaction. The alternating structure of the copolymers was confirmed by 1H and 13C NMR and elemental analysis. The polymers showed, by ultraviolet–visible, the π–π* absorption of the polymer backbone (320–380 nm) and at a lower energy attributed to the d–π* metal‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer absorption (450 nm for linear 3a and 480 nm for angular 3b ). The polymers were characterized by a monomodal molecular weight distribution. The degree of polymerization was approximately 8 for polymer 3b and 28 for polymer 3d . © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly[(m‐phenylene vinylene)‐alt‐(o‐phenylene vinylene)]s with different contents of cis‐/trans‐CH?CH ( 3 and 6 ) have been synthesized through Wittig condensation. The polymers exhibit good solubility in common organic solvents such as toluene and tetrahydrofuran. A comparison of the optical properties has been made between 3 and its phenyl regioisomers containing either p‐phenylene or m‐phenylene units. The results show that the regiochemistry of the phenyl ring can be a useful tool for tuning the emission color of π‐conjugated polymers because the extension of π conjugation can only partially be achieved through an o‐phenylene bridge. Although both polymers 3 and 6 exhibit comparable low fluorescence quantum efficiencies (≈0.18) in solution, their films are highly luminescent, showing a broad emission band near 456 nm (blue color). Electroluminescence results show that the device of polymer 3 , which has a higher content of trans‐CH?CH linkages, is about 20 times more efficient than that of 6 . © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(p-phenylene sulfide), a poly(arylene sulfone), and a poly(arylene sulfonate) were subjected to thermal degradation in vacuo, at temperatures between 250 and 620°C. The volatile and solid degradation products were analyzed by mass spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The major decomposition product of poly-(phenylene sulfide) is a condensate, which consists of di- and trimeric chain fragments, dibenzothiophene, and possibly thianthrene. The residual polymer loses two thirds of its sulfur as hydrogen sulfide, however, one third is retained even at 620°C. The most characteristic decomposition reaction of the polysulfone and of the polysulfonate is the almost complete removal of the sulfur as sulfur dioxide. The elimination of sulfur dioxide is practically complete at 450°C for the polysulfone and at 350°C for the polysulfonate.  相似文献

Improved reaction conditions for the preparation of poly(p‐phenylene sulfide) (PPS) directly from bis(4‐bromophenyl) disulfide (BBD) have been established. Heating BBD with magnesium metal afforded only a low molecular weight polymer. PPS with a melting temperature around 280 °C was obtained from BBD in the presence of sodium carbonate or zinc metal. The best results were obtained with the addition of a catalytic amount of KI to the zinc–BBD mixture. Polymers prepared by the above methods are semicrystalline and dissolve in 1‐chloronaphthalene and have properties comparable to commercial PPS. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(p‐phenylene sulfide) (PPS) is an important polymer of engineering interest particularly useful in the electronics and automotive industries. Normal mode analysis including phonon dispersion has been performed to understand completely the vibrational spectra of this polymer. Various characteristic features of the dispersion curves have been reported. Crossing/Repulsion between various pairs of modes at certain phase values have been explained as arising due to internal symmetry in the energy momentum space. The heat capacity is calculated as a function of temperature via density‐of‐states in the range 220–360 K. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 47: 2353–2367, 2009  相似文献

The polymerization of bis(4‐ethynylphenyl)methylsilane catalyzed by RhI(PPh3)3 afforded a regio‐ and stereoregular hyperbranched polymer, hb‐poly[(methylsilylene)bis(1,4‐phenylene‐trans‐vinylene)] (poly( 1 )), containing 95% trans‐vinylene moieties. The weight loss of this polymer at 900°C in N2 was 9%. Poly( 1 ) displayed an absorption due to π‐π* transition around 275 nm as a shoulder and a weak absorption around 330 nm due to π‐to‐σ charge transfer, which was hardly seen in the corresponding linear polymer.  相似文献

Fluorine‐containing poly(aryl ether 1,3,4‐ozadiazole)s were synthesized by the nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction of 2,5‐bis(2,3,4,5,6‐pentafluorophenyl)‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole and various bisphenols in the presence of potassium carbonate. The polymerizations were carried out at 30 °C in 1‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone to avoid the gelation caused by a crosslinking reaction at para and ortho carbons to the 1,3,4‐oxidiazole ring. The obtained polymers were all para‐connected linear structures. The obtained fluorine‐containing poly(aryl ether 1,3,4‐ozadiazole)s showed excellent solubility and afforded tough, transparent films by the solution‐casting method. They also exhibited a high glass transition temperature depending on the molecular structure, and the glass transition temperature could be controlled by the bisphenols in the range of 157–257 °C. They showed good thermal stability and excellent hydrophobicity due to the incorporation of the 2,3,5,6‐tetrafluoro‐1,4‐phenylene moiety. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel benzoxazine monomer containing a benzoxazole group was synthesized using a nonsolvent method and then named DAROH‐a. The structure of DAROH‐a was confirmed by FTIR, 1H NMR, elemental analysis, and mass spectrometry. The curing reaction activation energy was calculated at 140 kJ/mol. Its corresponding crosslinked polybenzoxazines, poly(DAROH‐a), displayed a higher glass transition temperature at 402 °C, a 9% weight loss at the said temperature, and a high char yield of 42 wt % (800 °C, in nitrogen). Moreover, the dielectric constants of poly(DAROH‐a) were low and changed only slightly at different temperatures. Furthermore, the dielectric constants and dielectric loss of poly(DAROH‐a) at the same frequency barely changed from room temperature to 150 °C. The photophysical properties of poly(DAROH‐a) film were also investigated. Poly(DAROH‐a) showed an absorption peak at 280 nm. The photoluminescent emission spectrum of poly(DAROH‐a) film displayed predominant emission peaks at 521 nm. It might have potential application as high‐performance materials because of its excellent dielectric constants stability and thermal stability under high temperature. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of new organosoluble poly(amine hydrazide)s were synthesized via the Yamazaki phosphorylation reaction and were solution‐cast into transparent films. Differential scanning calorimetry indicated that the hydrazide polymers could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding oxadiazole polymers in the range of 300–400 °C. The resulting poly(amine‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s exhibited glass‐transition temperatures in the range of 276–297 °C, 10% weight loss temperatures in excess of 520 °C, and char yields at 800 °C in nitrogen higher than 67%. The hole‐transporting and electrochromic properties were examined with electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical methods. Cyclic voltammograms of these polymers prepared by the casting of polymer solutions onto an indium tin oxide coated glass substrate exhibited two reversible oxidative redox couples at 1.10–1.19 and 1.35–1.60 V versus Ag/AgCl in an acetonitrile solution, respectively. The poly(amine hydrazide)s revealed excellent stability of the electrochromic characteristics, changing color from the original pale yellow to green and then to blue. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Soluble conjugated polymers based on 3,5‐didecanyldithieno[3,2‐b:2′,3′‐d]thiophene—single‐bond ( 1 ), double‐bond ( 2 ), and triple‐bond linked ( 3 )—were synthesized by palladium(0)‐catalyzed Stille coupling reaction and oxidation polymerization. The thermal, absorption, emission, and electrochemical properties of these polymers were examined; the effect of the link pattern was studied. All polymers exhibit decomposition temperatures over 295 °C and glass‐transition temperatures in the range of 137–202 °C. The absorption spectra of 1 , 2 , and 3 in thin films exhibit absorption maxima at 381, 584, and 444 nm, respectively. Polymer 1 exhibits intense green emission located at 510 nm in film, whereas polymers 2 and 3 are nonemissive both in solution and in film due to H‐aggregate. Cyclic voltammograms of polymers 1 , 2 , and 3 display irreversible oxidation waves with onset oxidation potentials at 1.73, 0.78, and 1.03 V versus Ag+/Ag, respectively. Theory calculation on model compounds suggests that the dihedral angle decreases in the order of 1 > 3 > 2 . On reducing the dihedral angle, the polymer exhibits a longer absorption maximum, a smaller bandgap, a less oxidizing potential and fluorescence quench, due to more coplanar and more π‐electron delocalized backbone structure. Polymer solar cells were fabricated based on the blend of polymer 2 and methanofullerene [6,6]‐phenyl C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM). The power conversion efficiency of 0.45% was achieved under AM 1.5, 100 mW cm?2 using polymer 2 :PCBM (1:2, w/w) as active layer. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new stepladder conjugated polymers, that is, poly(7,7,15,15‐tetraoctyldinaphtho[1,2‐a:1′,2′‐g]‐s‐indacene) (PONSI) and poly(7,7,15,15‐tetra(4‐octylphenyl)dinaphtho[1,2‐a:1′,2′‐g]‐s‐indacene) (PANSI) with alkyl and aryl substituents, respectively, have been synthesized and characterized. In comparison with poly(indenofluorene)s, both polymers have extended conjugation at the direction perpendicular to the polymer backbone because of the introduction of naphthalene moieties. The emission color of the polymers in film state is strongly dependent on the substituents. While PONSI emits at a maximum of 463 nm, PANSI with the same backbone but aryl substituents displays dramatically redshifted emission with a maximum at 494 nm. Both polymers show stable photoluminescence spectra while annealing at 200 °C in inert atmosphere. The PONSI‐based devices with the configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca/Al turn on at 3.7 V, and emit at a maximum of 461 nm with the CIE coordinates of (0.19, 0.26), a maximum luminance efficiency of 1.40 cd/A, and a maximum brightness of 2036 cd/m2 at 13 V. Meanwhile, the emission color of the devices is independent of driving voltage and keeps unchanged during the continuous operation. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Series of poly(p‐phenylene)s (PPPs) containing terphenyl mesogenic pendants with cyano and methoxy terminal groups by flexible ? COO(CH2)6O? bridge [ P(CN) and P(OCH3) ] are synthesized through Yamamoto polycondensation with Ni‐based complex catalysts. The effects of the structural variation on their properties, especially their mesomorphism, ultraviolet–visible (UV), and photoluminescence behaviors, are studied. All of the polymers are stable, losing little of their weights when heated to ≥340 °C. The polymers show good solubility and can be dissolved in common solvents. P(CN) with cyano terminal group shows enantiotropic SmAd phase with bilayer packing arrangement, while P(OCH3) with methoxy terminal group readily forms nematic and SmAd phase when heated and cooled. Photoexcitation of their solutions induces strong blue light emission. Compared with P(OCH3) , the light‐emitting bands of polymer P(CN) is slightly redshifted to 428 nm and the emission intensity of P(CN) is much stronger, due to the existence of donor–acceptor pairs. More interestingly, both of the polymers exhibit obvious Cotton effect on the CD spectra, resulting from the predominant screw sense of the backbone. This indicates that the bulky mesogenic pendant orientating around the backbone will force the main chain with helical conformation in the long region due to steric crowdedness. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
