Anthracene‐functionalized oxanorbornene monomer and oxanorbornenyl polystyrene (PS) with ω‐anthracene end‐functionalized macromonomer were first polymerized via ring‐opening metathesis polymerization using the first‐generation Grubbs' catalyst in dichloromethane at room temperature and then clicked with maleimide end‐functionalized polymers, poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)‐MI, poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)‐MI, and poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA)‐MI in a Diels–Alder reaction in toluene at 120 °C to create corresponding graft copolymers, poly(oxanorbornene)‐g‐PEG, poly(oxanorbornene)‐g‐PMMA, and graft block copolymers, poly(oxanorbornene)‐g‐(PS‐b‐PEG), poly(oxanorbornene)‐g‐(PS‐b‐PMMA), and poly(oxanorbornene)‐g‐(PS‐b‐PtBA), respectively. Diels–Alder click reaction efficiency for graft copolymerization was monitored by UV–vis spectroscopy. The dn/dc values of graft copolymers and graft block copolymers were experimentally obtained using a triple detection gel permeation chromatography and subsequently introduced to the software so as to give molecular weights, intrinsic viscosity ([η]) and hydrodynamic radius (Rh) values. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Solubilization of the hydrophobic Hoveyda‐Grubbs' catalyst in micellar aqueous phase has been achieved using dodecyl and cetyl ammonium chloride as surfactants. The domain of solubilization has been estimated before carrying out ring‐opening metathesis polymerization in these micellar solutions with a hydrophilic monomer. Kinetics orders have been determined relative to monomer, initiator, and surfactant. A good control of the molecular weight has been obtained for ratios [micelles]/[initiator] over 1. The better control of the polymerization obtained in micellar solution has been explained by a difference of reactivity leading to a more efficient initiation step in the presence of the micelles. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dendritic 2‐ and 4‐arm PMMA‐based star polymers with furan‐protected maleimide at their focal point, (PMMA)2n‐MI and (PMMA)4n‐MI were efficiently clicked with the peripheral anthracene functionalized multiarm star polymer, (α‐anthryl functionalized‐polystyrene)m‐poly(divinyl benzene) ((α‐anthryl‐PS)m‐polyDVB) through the Diels–Alder reaction resulting in corresponding multiarm star block copolymers: (PMMA)2n‐(PS)m‐polyDVB and (PMMA)4n‐(PS)m‐polyDVB, respectively. Molecular weights (Mw,TDGPC), hydrodynamic radius (Rh), and intrinsic viscosity (η) of the multiarm star polymers were determined using three‐detection GPC (TD‐GPC). The high efficiency of this methodology to obtain such sterically demanding macromolecular constructs was deduced using 1H‐NMR and UV–vis spectroscopy. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl (TEMPO)‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) or ‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) (PEG11‐TEMPO or PCL23‐TEMPO) is grafted as a side chain onto a ROMP‐generated polyoxanorbornene (PONB) main backbone with bromide pendant groups (PONB20‐Br) using the NRC click reaction to yield related the brush copolymers, PONB20g‐PEG11 or PONB20g‐PCL23 catalyzed by Cu(I), Cu(0), and N,N,N,N,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine in N,N‐dimethylformamide at room temperature. Additionally, a ROMP‐generated brush copolymer PONB9g‐poly(methyl methacrylate)24 (PMMA)24‐Cl was reacted with a PEG11‐TEMPO or a PCL23‐TEMPO precursor via the NRC click reaction to yield a corresponding brush terpolymer, PONB9g‐(PMMA24b‐PEG11) or PONB9g‐(PMMA24b‐PCL23) under a similar reaction condition described above. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A combination of ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) and click chemistry approach is first time utilized in the preparation of 3‐miktoarm star terpolymer. The bromide end‐functionality of monotelechelic poly(N‐butyl oxanorbornene imide) (PNBONI‐Br) is first transformed to azide and then reacted with polystyrene‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate) copolymer with alkyne at the junction point (PS‐b‐PMMA‐alkyne) via click chemistry strategy, producing PS‐PMMA‐PNBONI 3‐miktoarm star terpolymer. PNBONI‐Br was prepared by ROMP of N‐butyl oxanorbornene imide (NBONI) 1 in the presence of (Z)‐but‐2‐ene‐1,4‐diyl bis(2‐bromopropanoate) 2 as terminating agent. PS‐b‐PMMA‐alkyne copolymer was prepared successively via nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization (NMP) of St and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of MMA. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined AB3‐type miktoarm star‐shaped polymers with cholic acid (CA) core were fabricated with a combination of “click” chemistry and ring opening polymerization (ROP) methods. Firstly, azide end‐functional poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), polystyrene (PS), and poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) polymers were prepared via controlled polymerization and chemical modification methods. Then, CA moieties containing three OH groups were introduced to these polymers as the end groups via Cu(I)‐catalyzed click reaction between azide end‐functional groups of the polymers ( mPEG‐N3 , PMMA‐N3 , PS‐N3 , and PCL‐N3 ) and ethynyl‐functional CA under ambient conditions, yielding CA end‐functional polymers ( mPEG‐Cholic , PMMA‐Cholic , PS‐Cholic , and PCL‐Cholic ). Finally, the obtained CA end‐capped polymers were employed as the macroinitiators in the ROP of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) yielding AB3‐type miktoarm star polymers ( mPEG‐Cholic‐PCL3 , PMMA‐Cholic‐PCL3 , and PS‐Cholic‐PCL3 ) and asymmetric star polymer [ Cholic‐(PCL)4 ]. The chemical structures of the obtained intermediates and polymers were confirmed via Fourier transform infrared and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic techniques. Thermal decomposition behaviors and phase transitions were studied in detail using thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry experiments. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. In an attempt to introduce monomer sequence control in a growing polynorbornene via ring‐opening metathesis polymerization, we employ dioxepins to efficiently determine the location of the monomers on the macromolecule backbone. Owing to the acid‐labile acetal group, dioxepins allow scission of the polymer at the point of the dioxepin insertion and thus provide an indirect way to determine the monomer location. Additionally, dioxepins are used as spacers in the synthesis of multiblock polynorbornenes that are readily cleavable to afford the individual polynorbornene blocks. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. This work presents a two‐step, one‐pot process to make star polymers with polywedge arms. In a one‐pot reaction, after the polywedge arms are synthesized, crosslinker species are added to the reaction, rapidly forming star polymers. Crosslinker species with different degrees of conformational freedom were designed and synthesized and their capacity to generate star polymers was evaluated. Mass conversions up to 92% and stars with up to 17 arms were synthesized with the most rigid crosslinker. The effects of arm molecular weight and molar ratio of crosslinker to arm on mass conversion and arms per star were explored further. Finally, the size‐molecular weight scaling relationship for polywedges with linear and star architectures was compared, corroborating theoretical results regarding star polymers with arms much larger than their core. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This contribution describes our recent efforts geared toward the use of a general, thio‐bromo “click” reaction as a post‐polymerization method for the preparation of flame‐resistant polymeric materials. α‐bromo ester‐containing polymers could easily be prepared using ROMP and a subsequent, facile thio‐bromo click reaction was used for the installation of a phosphorus‐moiety that was shown to impart flame‐resistant/self‐extinguishing properties to these polymers. The extent of their flame resistance was then ascertained by treating paper (previously coated with polymer) to standard burn tests as well as measuring the limiting oxygen index (LOI). © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New hydrogenated ring‐opening metathesis polymers with excellent thermal and optical properties were developed. These polymers were prepared by the ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of ester‐substituted tetracyclododecene monomers followed by the hydrogenation of the main‐chain double bond. The degree of hydrogenation was an important factor for the thermal stability of the polymers, and as complete hydrogenation as possible was necessary to obtain a thermally stable polymer. The completely hydrogenated ring‐opening polymer derived from 8‐methyl‐8‐methoxycarbonyl‐substituted monomer has a glass‐transition temperature of 171 °C and a 5% weight‐loss temperature of 446 °C. This polymer has excellent thermal and optical properties because of its bulky and unsymmetrical polycyclic structure in the main chain and is an alternative to glass or other transparent polymers such as poly(methyl methacrylate) and polycarbonate resin. This polymer has also been used in a wide variety of applications, such as optical lenses, optical disks, optical films, and optical fiber. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of well‐defined three‐arm star poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(acrylic acid) copolymers having different block lengths were synthesized via the combination of ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). First, three‐arm star poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) (Mn = 2490–7830 g mol?1; Mw/Mn = 1.19–1.24) were synthesized via ROP of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) using tris(2‐hydroxyethyl)cynuric acid as three‐arm initiator and stannous octoate (Sn(Oct)2) as a catalyst. Subsequently, the three‐arm macroinitiator transformed from such PCL in high conversion initiated ATRPs of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBuA) to construct three‐arm star PCL‐b‐PtBuA copolymers (Mn = 10,900–19,570 g mol?1; Mw/Mn = 1.14–1.23). Finally, the three‐arm star PCL‐b‐PAA copolymer was obtained via the hydrolysis of the PtBuA segment in three‐arm star PCL‐b‐PtBuA copolymers. The chain structures of all the polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The aggregates of three‐arm star PCL‐b‐PAA copolymer were studied by the determination of critical micelles concentration and transmission electron microscope. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The preparation of 3‐miktoarm star terpolymers using nitroxide mediated radical polymerization (NMP), ring opening polymerization (ROP), and click reaction [3 + 2] are carried out by applying two types of one‐pot technique. In the first one‐pot technique, NMP of styrene (St), ROP of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL), and [3 + 2] click reaction (between azide end‐functionalized poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG‐N3)/or azide end‐functionalized poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA‐N3) and alkyne) are carried out in the presence of 2‐(hydroxymethyl)‐2‐methyl‐3‐oxo‐3‐(2‐phenyl‐2‐(2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidin‐1‐yloxy)ethoxy) propyl pent‐4‐ynoate, 2 , as an initiator for 48 h at 125 °C (one‐pot/one‐step). As a second technique, NMP of St and ROP of ε‐CL were conducted using 2 as an initiator for 20 h at 125 °C, and subsequently PEG‐N3 or azide end‐functionalized poly(tert‐butyl acrylate (PtBA‐N3) was added to the polymerization mixture, followed by a click reaction [3 + 2] for 24 h at room temperature (one‐pot/two‐step). The 3‐miktoarm star terpolymers, PEG‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)(PCL)‐PS, PtBA‐PCL‐PS and PMMA‐PCL‐PS, were recovered by a simple precipitation in methanol without further purification. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report an efficient way, sequential double click reactions, for the preparation of brush copolymers with AB block‐brush architectures containing polyoxanorbornene (poly (ONB)) backbone and poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA) side chains: poly(ONB‐g‐PMMA)‐b‐poly(ONB‐g‐PCL) and poly(ONB‐g‐PtBA)‐b‐poly(ONB‐g‐PCL). The living ROMP of ONB affords the synthesis of well‐defined poly(ONB‐anthracene)20b‐poly (ONB‐azide)5 block copolymer with anthryl and azide pendant groups. Subsequently, well‐defined linear alkyne end‐functionalized PCL (PCL‐alkyne), maleimide end‐functionalized PMMA (PMMA‐MI) and PtBA‐MI were introduced onto the block copolymer via sequential azide‐alkyne and Diels‐Alder click reactions, thus yielding block‐brush copolymers. The molecular weight of block‐brush copolymers was measured via triple detection GPC (TD‐GPC) introducing the experimentally calculated dn/dc values to the software. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A hetero‐arm star polymer, poly(ethylene glycol)‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐poly(L‐lysine) (PEG‐PNIPAM‐PLys), was synthesized by “clicking” the azide group at the junction of PEG‐b‐PNIPAM diblock copolymer with the alkyne end‐group of poly(L‐lysine) (PLys) homopolymer via 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition. The resultant polymer was characterized by gel permeation chromatography, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopes. Surprisingly, the PNIPAM arm of this hetero‐arm star polymer nearly lose its thermal responsibility. It is found that stable polyelectrolyte complex micelles are formed when mixing the synthesized polymer with poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) in water. The resultant polyelectrolyte complex micelles are core‐shell spheres with the ion‐bonded PLys/PAA chains as core and the PEG and PNIPAM chains as shell. The PNIPAM shell is, as expected, thermally responsive. However, its lower critical solution temperature is shifted to 37.5 °C, presumably because of the existence of hydrophilic components in the micelles. Such star‐like PEG‐PNIPAM‐PLys polymer with different functional arms as well as its complexation with anionic polymers provides an excellent and well‐defined model for the design of nonviral vectors to deliver DNA, RNA, and anionic molecular medicines. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amino acid‐derived novel norbornene derivatives, N,N′‐(endo‐bicyclo[2.2.1] hept‐5‐en‐2,3‐diyldicarbonyl) bis‐L ‐alanine methyl ester (NBA), N,N′‐(endo‐bicyclo[2.2.1]hept‐5‐en‐2,3‐diyldicarbonyl) bis‐L ‐leucine methyl ester (NBL), N,N′‐(endo‐bicyclo[2.2.1]hept‐5‐en‐2,3‐diyldicarbonyl) bis‐L ‐phenylalanine methyl ester (NBF) were synthesized and polymerized using the Grubbs 2nd generation ruthenium (Ru) catalyst. Although NBA, NBL, and NBF did not undergo homopolymerization, they underwent copolymerization with norbornene (NB) to give the copolymers with Mn ranging from 5200 to 38,100. The maximum incorporation ratio of the amino acid‐based unit was 9%, and the cis contents of the main chain were 54–66%. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of multiarm star block (and mixed‐block) copolymers are efficiently prepared by using Cu(I) catalyzed azide‐alkyne click reaction and the arm‐first approach. α‐Silyl protected alkyne polystyrene (α‐silyl‐alkyne‐PS) was prepared by ATRP of styrene (St) and used as macroinitiator in a crosslinking reaction with divinyl benzene to successfully give multiarm star homopolymer with alkyne periphery. Linear azide end‐functionalized poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG‐N3) and poly (tert‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA‐N3) were simply clicked with the multiarm star polymer described earlier to form star block or mixed‐block copolymers in N,N‐dimethyl formamide at room temperature for 24 h. Obtained multiarm star block and mixed‐block copolymers were identified by using 1H NMR, GPC, triple detection‐GPC, atomic force microscopy, and dynamic light scattering measurements. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report a simple preparation of three‐armed (A3‐type) star polymers based on the arm‐first technique, using a click‐reaction strategy between a well‐defined azide‐end‐functionalized polystyrene, poly(tert‐butyl acrylate), or poly(ethylene glycol) precursor and a trisalkyne‐functional initiator, 1,1,1‐tris[4‐(2‐propynyloxy)phenyl]ethane. The click‐reaction efficiency for A3‐type star formation has been investigated with gel permeation chromatography measurements (refractive‐index detector). The gel permeation chromatography curves have been split with the deconvolution method (Gaussian area), and the efficiency of A3‐type star formation has been found to be 87%. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hetero‐arm star ABC‐type terpolymers, poly(methyl methacrylate)‐polystyrene‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) (PMMA‐PS‐PtBA) and PMMA‐PS‐poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), were prepared by using “Click” chemistry strategy. For this, first, PMMA‐b‐PS with alkyne functional group at the junction point was obtained from successive atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization (NMP) routes. Furthermore, PtBA obtained from ATRP of tBA and commercially available monohydroxyl PEG were efficiently converted to the azide end‐functionalized polymers. As a second step, the alkyne and azide functional polymers were reacted to give the hetero‐arm star polymers in the presence of CuBr/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine ( PMDETA) in DMF at room temperature for 24 h. The hetero‐arm star polymers were characterized by 1H NMR, GPC, and DSC. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 44: 5699–5707, 2006  相似文献
