The synthesis of multiarm star block (and mixed‐block) copolymers are efficiently prepared by using Cu(I) catalyzed azide‐alkyne click reaction and the arm‐first approach. α‐Silyl protected alkyne polystyrene (α‐silyl‐alkyne‐PS) was prepared by ATRP of styrene (St) and used as macroinitiator in a crosslinking reaction with divinyl benzene to successfully give multiarm star homopolymer with alkyne periphery. Linear azide end‐functionalized poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG‐N3) and poly (tert‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA‐N3) were simply clicked with the multiarm star polymer described earlier to form star block or mixed‐block copolymers in N,N‐dimethyl formamide at room temperature for 24 h. Obtained multiarm star block and mixed‐block copolymers were identified by using 1H NMR, GPC, triple detection‐GPC, atomic force microscopy, and dynamic light scattering measurements. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined star polymers consisting of tri‐, tetra‐, or octa‐arms have been prepared via coupling‐onto strategy using photoinduced copper(I)‐catalyzed 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition click reaction. An azide end‐functionalized polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate), and an alkyne end‐functionalized poly(ε‐caprolactone) as the integrating arms of the star polymers are prepared by the combination of controlled polymerization and nucleophilic substitution reactions; whereas, multifunctional cores containing either azide or alkyne functionalities were synthesized in quantitatively via etherification and ring‐opening reactions. By using photoinduced copper‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) click reaction, reactive linear polymers are simply attached onto multifunctional cores to form corresponding star polymers via coupling‐onto methodology. The chromatographic, spectroscopic, and thermal analyses have clearly demonstrated that successful star formations can be obtained via photoinduced CuAAC click reaction. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A combination of ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) and click chemistry approach is first time utilized in the preparation of 3‐miktoarm star terpolymer. The bromide end‐functionality of monotelechelic poly(N‐butyl oxanorbornene imide) (PNBONI‐Br) is first transformed to azide and then reacted with polystyrene‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate) copolymer with alkyne at the junction point (PS‐b‐PMMA‐alkyne) via click chemistry strategy, producing PS‐PMMA‐PNBONI 3‐miktoarm star terpolymer. PNBONI‐Br was prepared by ROMP of N‐butyl oxanorbornene imide (NBONI) 1 in the presence of (Z)‐but‐2‐ene‐1,4‐diyl bis(2‐bromopropanoate) 2 as terminating agent. PS‐b‐PMMA‐alkyne copolymer was prepared successively via nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization (NMP) of St and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of MMA. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined linear furan‐protected maleimide‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG‐MI), tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl‐terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐TEMPO), and azide‐terminated polystyrene (PS‐N3) or ‐poly(N‐butyl oxanorbornene imide) (PONB‐N3) were ligated to an orthogonally functionalized core ( 1 ) in a two‐step reaction mode through triple click reactions. In a first step, Diels–Alder click reaction of PEG‐MI with 1 was performed in toluene at 110 °C for 24 h to afford α‐alkyne‐α‐bromide‐terminated PEG (PEG‐alkyne/Br). As a second step, this precursor was subsequently ligated with the PCL‐TEMPO and PS‐N3 or PONB‐N3 in N,N‐dimethylformamide at room temperature for 12 h catalyzed by Cu(0)/Cu(I) through copper‐catalyzed azide‐alkyne cycloaddition and nitroxide radical coupling click reactions, yield resulting ABC miktoarm star polymers in a one‐pot mode. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The preparation of 3‐miktoarm star terpolymers using nitroxide mediated radical polymerization (NMP), ring opening polymerization (ROP), and click reaction [3 + 2] are carried out by applying two types of one‐pot technique. In the first one‐pot technique, NMP of styrene (St), ROP of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL), and [3 + 2] click reaction (between azide end‐functionalized poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG‐N3)/or azide end‐functionalized poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA‐N3) and alkyne) are carried out in the presence of 2‐(hydroxymethyl)‐2‐methyl‐3‐oxo‐3‐(2‐phenyl‐2‐(2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidin‐1‐yloxy)ethoxy) propyl pent‐4‐ynoate, 2 , as an initiator for 48 h at 125 °C (one‐pot/one‐step). As a second technique, NMP of St and ROP of ε‐CL were conducted using 2 as an initiator for 20 h at 125 °C, and subsequently PEG‐N3 or azide end‐functionalized poly(tert‐butyl acrylate (PtBA‐N3) was added to the polymerization mixture, followed by a click reaction [3 + 2] for 24 h at room temperature (one‐pot/two‐step). The 3‐miktoarm star terpolymers, PEG‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)(PCL)‐PS, PtBA‐PCL‐PS and PMMA‐PCL‐PS, were recovered by a simple precipitation in methanol without further purification. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The click chemistry strategy is successfully applied for the preparation of three‐arm star (A3) ring opening metathesis polymers. A well‐defined monoazide end‐functionalized poly(N‐ethyl oxanorbornene) and a poly(N‐butyl oxanorbornene) obtained via ring opening metathesis polymerization using first generation Grubbs' catalyst are simply clicked with the trisalkyne core affording the synthesis of target star polymers. The obtained star polymers are characterized via nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The deconvolution analyses of GPC traces reveal that the click reaction efficiency for the star formation strongly depends on the chemical nature and the molecular weight of ROM polymers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Protein stability in aqueous solutions is important in numerous fields, particularly biotechnology and food‐science. To shed new light on the protective effect of carbohydrates on proteins, we studied saccharide‐structure effects in aqueous solutions on the coil‐to‐globule transition occurring at the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of poly‐N‐isopropylacrylamide (PNIPA), an isomer of polyleucine, as a simple model representing certain key behaviors of proteins (e.g., denaturation/renaturation). We systematically selected sugars and polyols to relate structural and physical characteristics of these carbohydrates to their effect on PNIPA solutions. Using isothermal titration‐microcalorimetry, we showed that no significant binding of saccharides to the polymer occurs. Using micro‐DSC, we studied the decreasing polymer LCST temperature with rising carbohydrate concentration. Beyond the expected observation that steric exclusion is important, we observed previously‐unreported significant differences among the effects of isomeric aldohexoses and also among the effects of isomeric diglucoses on PNIPA LCST. We found good correlation between the sugar hydration number and its effect on LCST. We conclude that the larger and denser the hydrated cluster a carbohydrate forms, the worse a cosolvent is for the polymer, and the stronger it's lowering effect of the coil‐to‐globule transition. Such favoring of the compact globule state provides a protective effect against denaturation of globular proteins. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Diels–Alder click reaction was successfully applied for the preparation of 3‐arm star polymers (A3) using furan protected maleimide end‐functionalized polymers and trianthracene functional linking agent (2) at reflux temperature of toluene for 48 h. Well‐defined furan protected maleimide end‐functionalized polymers, poly (ethylene glycol), poly(methyl methacrylate), and poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) were obtained by esterification or atom transfer radical polymerization. Obtained star polymers were characterized via NMR and GPC (refractive index and triple detector detection). Splitting of GPC traces of the resulting polymer mixture notably displayed that Diels–Alder click reaction was a versatile and a reliable route for the preparation of A3 star polymer. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We designed a trifunctional initiator ( 3 ) containing anthracene, bromide, and OH functionalities and subsequently used as an initiator in atom transfer radical Polymerization (ATRP) of styrene to yield linear polystyrene (PS) with α‐anthracene, OH, and ω‐bromide terminal groups, of which bromide is later transformed into azide to result in the linear anthracene‐, OH‐, and azide‐terminated PS (l‐α‐anthracene‐OH‐ω‐azide‐PS). The copper‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition reaction between l‐α‐anthracene‐OH‐ω‐azide‐PS and α‐furan‐protected‐maleimide‐ω‐alkyne linkage, 4 afforded the linear anthracene‐, OH‐, and maleimide‐terminated PS. The cyclization via intramolecular Diels–Alder click reaction of this linear PS and the subsequent conversion of the hydroxyl into bromide resulted in the cyclic PS with one bromide located on the ring, (c‐PS)‐Br. Finally, the c‐PS‐Br was clicked with either well‐defined tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) or poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) yielding the tadpole polymer, (c‐PS)‐b‐PEG or (c‐PS)‐b‐PCL. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Azide end‐functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS‐N3) was incorporated into the periphery of well‐defined alkyne‐polystyrene50‐poly(divinyl benzene) (alkyne‐PS50‐polyDVB) and alkyne‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)43‐poly(divinyl benzene) (alkyne‐PtBA43‐polyDVB) multiarm star polymers via highly efficient azide‐alkyne click reaction, resulting in POSS‐PS50‐polyDVB and POSS‐PtBA43‐polyDVB multiarm star block copolymers respectively, in the solution of tetrahydrofuran/N,N‐dimethyl formamide, CuBr/N,N,N,N,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) at room temperature for 24 h. Linear precursors and star polymers obtained in this study were characterized 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and triple detection GPC (TD‐GPC). Dendritic 2‐ and 4‐arm PMMA‐based star polymers with furan‐protected maleimide at their focal point, (PMMA)2n‐MI and (PMMA)4n‐MI were efficiently clicked with the peripheral anthracene functionalized multiarm star polymer, (α‐anthryl functionalized‐polystyrene)m‐poly(divinyl benzene) ((α‐anthryl‐PS)m‐polyDVB) through the Diels–Alder reaction resulting in corresponding multiarm star block copolymers: (PMMA)2n‐(PS)m‐polyDVB and (PMMA)4n‐(PS)m‐polyDVB, respectively. Molecular weights (Mw,TDGPC), hydrodynamic radius (Rh), and intrinsic viscosity (η) of the multiarm star polymers were determined using three‐detection GPC (TD‐GPC). The high efficiency of this methodology to obtain such sterically demanding macromolecular constructs was deduced using 1H‐NMR and UV–vis spectroscopy. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A family of four different Hoveyda‐type initiators bearing a π‐extended carbene ligand was characterized regarding the activity in ring opening metathesis polymerization. One of the initiators shows high activity at ambient temperature, similar to the second generation Hoveyda–Grubbs catalyst and is even suited for the controlled polymerization of certain norbornene derivatives. The other family members exhibit a pronounced latency at room temperature, and polymerization can be triggered by heat. The scope of these initiators in the thermally triggered polymerizations of norbornene derivatives in general and dicyclopentadiene in particular was disclosed. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two samples of dendrimer‐like miktoarm star terpolymers: (poly(tert‐butyl acrylate))3‐(polystyrene‐poly(ε‐caprolactone))3 (PtBA)3‐(PS‐PCL)3, and (PS)3‐(PtBA‐poly(ethylene glycol)3 were prepared using efficient Cu catalyzed Huisgen cycloaddition (click reaction). As a first step, azido‐terminated 3‐arm star polymers PtBA and PS as core (A) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of tBA and St, respectively, followed by the conversion of bromide end group to azide. Secondly, PS‐PCL and PtBA‐PEG block copolymers with alkyne group at the junction as peripheral arms (B‐C) were obtained via multiple living polymerization mechanisms such as nitroxide mediated radical polymerization (NMP) of St, ring opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐CL, ATRP of tBA. Thus obtained core and peripheral arms were linked via click reaction to give target (A)3‐(B‐C)3 dendrimer‐like miktoarm star terpolymers. (PtBA)3‐(PS‐PCL)3 and (PS)3‐(PEG‐PtBA)3 have been characterized by GPC, DSC, AFM, and SAXS measurements. (PtBA)3‐(PS‐PCL)3 did not show any self‐organization with annealing due to the miscibility of the peripheral arm segments. In contrast, the micro‐phase separation of the peripheral arm segments in (PS)3‐(PtBA‐PEG)3 resulted in self‐organized phase‐separated morphology with a long period of ~ 13 nm. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 5‐Norbornene‐2‐ethyl ester (mixture of endo and exo) is polymerized via ring‐opening metathesis polymerization, yielding polymers with molecular weights ranging from 50,000 to 5,000,000 g/mol. The polymers are hydroxylated and saponified without alteration of the molecular weight. The polymers are analyzed by NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis. Films are cast from the polymers at several molecular weights and their rheological properties are investigated. The results showed greater solid‐like character with increasing molecular weight for all polymers analyzed. Cell viability studies showed that the films possessed minimal cytotoxicity. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

A facile synthetic pathway to miktoarm star copolymers with multiple arms has been developed by combining reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) arm‐first technique and aldehyde–aminooxy “click” coupling reaction. Star polystyrene (PS) with aldehyde functionalized core was initially prepared by RAFT arm‐first technique via crosslinking of the preformed linear macro‐RAFT agents using a newly designed aldehyde‐containing divinyl compound 6,6′‐(ethane‐1,2‐diylbis(oxy))bis(3‐vinylbenzaldehyde) (EVBA). It was then used as a multifunctional coupling agent for the subsequent formation of the second generation poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) arms via the click coupling reaction between its aldehyde groups and aminooxy‐terminated PEGs. The possible formation of PS‐PEG miktoarm star copolymer with Janus‐like segregated structure in cyclohexanone was also investigated. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of ethynylene triptycene‐based copolymers with various aromatic spacers ( 3a–d ) is reported using the palladium‐catalyzed Sonogashira cross‐coupling reaction. The alkyne groups of 3a–d were oxidized into their respective α‐diketone copolymers 4a–d . Formation of 3,4a–d was confirmed by several characterization techniques, such as, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), FT‐infrared (FTIR), UV–vis absorption, and emission spectroscopies. It was found that the nature of the aromatic spacer influences the emission properties of the target α‐diketone triptycene copolymers, causing either a red or blue‐shift with respect to that of their ethynylene triptycene copolymer synthons. Copolymers 4a–c with fluorene spacers reveal emission in the range of 440–475 nm, thus, qualifying them to act as blue emitters. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Supramolecular complexes of alkali metals were used as catalysts in the polymerization of isoprene via a two‐electron‐transfer mechanism. The obtained polyisoprene, having a living end group, was subsequently used to initiate methyl methacrylate polymerization in tetrahydrofuran. Polyisoprene–poly(methyl methacrylate) block copolymers were obtained, and their structure was established with 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and experiments of selective extraction. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new type of biodegradable polymer–drug nanoconjugate was fabricated via the combination of oil‐in‐water miniemulsion and Huisgen azide–alkyne click chemistry. Diazide‐functionalized paclitaxel (PTXL) were prepared through functional group transformation on the C‐2′ and C‐7 positions of PTXL and served as both drug carrier and crosslinker. Acetylene‐functionalized polylactide (PLA) was used as the base polymer. Oil‐in‐water miniemulsion technique was used to create nanodroplets with diameters of round 50 nm, which were used as nanoreactors to control the size and morphology of the drug conjugates. Using sodium ascorbate/CuSO4·5H2O as catalysts, click reaction was performed within the nanodroplets between the azide functionalities of the PTXL‐based crosslinker and the pendant acetylene groups of the functional PLA. High extent of reaction was confirmed by FTIR analysis and the resulting drug‐conjugated nanoparticles were characterized by dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy measurements. These NPs exhibited considerable degradation in proteinase K solution within 1 week. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献
