Suppose is a von Neumann algebra on a Hilbert space and is any ideal in . We determine a topology on , for which the members of that are to norm continuous are exactly those in ; and a bornology on such that the elements of which map the unit ball to an element of , equivalently those members of that are norm to bounded, are exactly those in . This is achieved via analogues of the notions of injectivity and surjectivity in the theory of operator ideals on Banach spaces.  相似文献

Let (M,α,G) be a covariant system on a locally compact Abelian group G with the totally ordered dual group which admits the positive semigroup . Let H(α) be the associated analytic subalgebra of M; i.e. . Let be the analytic crossed product determined by a covariant system . We give the necessary and sufficient condition that an analytic subalgebra H(α) is isomorphic to an analytic crossed product related to Landstad's theorem. We also investigate the structure of σ-weakly closed subalgebra of a continuous crossed product N?θR which contains N?θR+. We show that there exists a proper σ-weakly closed subalgebra of N?θR which contains N?θR+ and is not an analytic crossed product. Moreover we give an example that an analytic subalgebra is not a continuous analytic crossed product using the continuous decomposition of a factor of type IIIλ(0?λ<1).  相似文献

Consider a compact locally symmetric space M of rank r, with fundamental group Γ. The von Neumann algebra VN(Γ) is the convolution algebra of functions f2(Γ) which act by left convolution on ℓ2(Γ). Let Tr be a totally geodesic flat torus of dimension r in M and let be the image of the fundamental group of Tr in Γ. Then VN(Γ0) is a maximal abelian -subalgebra of VN(Γ) and its unitary normalizer is as small as possible. If M has constant negative curvature then the Pukánszky invariant of VN(Γ0) is ∞.  相似文献

In this paper, we study bimodules over a von Neumann algebra M   in the context of an inclusion M⊆M?αGMM?αG, where G is a discrete group acting on a factor M by outer ?-automorphisms. We characterize the M  -bimodules X⊆M?αGXM?αG that are closed in the Bures topology in terms of the subsets of G  . We show that this characterization also holds for w?w?-closed bimodules when G has the approximation property (AP  ), a class of groups that includes all amenable and weakly amenable ones. As an application, we prove a version of Mercer's extension theorem for certain w?w?-continuous surjective isometric maps on X.  相似文献

We prove that for every bounded linear operator , where is a non-reflexive quotient of a von Neumann algebra, the point spectrum of is non-empty (i.e., for some the operator fails to have dense range). In particular, and as an application, we obtain that such a space cannot support a topologically transitive operator.

We show that the structural properties of von Neumann algebra s are connected with the metric and order theoretic properties of various classes of affiliated subspaces. Among others we show that properly infinite von Neumann algebra s always admit an affiliated subspace for which (1) closed and orthogonally closed affiliated subspaces are different; (2) splitting and quasi‐splitting affiliated subspaces do not coincide. We provide an involved construction showing that concepts of splitting and quasi‐splitting subspaces are non‐equivalent in any GNS representation space arising from a faithful normal state on a Type I factor. We are putting together the theory of quasi‐splitting subspaces developed for inner product spaces on one side and the modular theory of von Neumann algebra s on the other side.  相似文献

We generalise the even local index formula of Connes and Moscovici to the case of spectral triples for a *-subalgebra A of a general semifinite von Neumann algebra. The proof is a variant of that for the odd case which appears in Part I. To allow for algebras with a non-trivial centre we have to establish a theory of unbounded Fredholm operators in a general semifinite von Neumann algebra and in particular prove a generalised McKean-Singer formula.  相似文献

We prove that any weak* continuous semigroup (Tt)t?0 of factorizable Markov maps acting on a von Neumann algebra M equipped with a normal faithful state can be dilated by a group of Markov ?-automorphisms analogous to the case of a single factorizable Markov operator, which is an optimal result. We also give a version of this result for strongly continuous semigroups of operators acting on noncommutative Lp-spaces and examples of semigroups to which the results of this paper can be applied. Our results imply the boundedness of the McIntosh's H functional calculus of the generators of these semigroups on the associated noncommutative Lp-spaces generalising some previous work from Junge, Le Merdy and Xu. Finally, we also give concrete dilations for Poisson semigroups which are even new in the case of Rn.  相似文献

Proofs of two assertions are sketched. 1) If the Banach space of a von Neumann algebra A is the third dual of some Banach space, then the space A is isometrically isomorphic to the second dual of some von Neumann algebra A and the von Neumann algebra A is uniquely determined by its enveloping von Neumann algebra (up to von Neumann algebra isomorphism) and is the unique second predual of A (up to isometric isomorphism of Banach spaces). 2) An infinite-dimensional von Neumann algebra cannot have preduals of all orders.  相似文献

Let A be a function algebra on a compact space X. A linear isometry T of A into A is said to be codimension n or finite codimensional if the range of T has codimension n in A. In this paper we prove that such isometries can be represented as weighted composition mappings on a cofinite subset, (∂A)0, of the Shilov boundary for A, ∂A. We focus on those finite codimensional isometries for which (∂A)0=∂A. All the above results, applied to the particular case of codimension 1 linear isometries on C(X), are used to improve the classification provided by Gutek et al. in J. Funct.
