A system of M(≥ 2) coupled singularly perturbed linear reaction–diffusion equations is considered on the unit square. Under certain hypotheses on the coupling, a maximum principle is established for the differential operator. The relationship between compatibility conditions at the corners of the square and the smoothness of the solution on the closed domain is fully described. A decomposition of the solution of the system is constructed. A finite‐difference method for the solution of the system on a Shishkin mesh is presented, and it is proved that the computed solution is second‐order accurate (up to a logarithmic factor). Numerical results are given to support this result and to investigate the effect of weaker compatibility assumptions on the data. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper our objective is to provide physically reasonable solutions for the stationary Navier–Stokes equations in a two-dimensional domain with two outlets to infinity, a semi-strip Π and a half-plane K. The same problem in an aperture domain, i.e. in a domain with two half-plane outlets to infinity, has been studied but only under symmetry restrictions on the data. Here, we assume that the main asymptotic term of the solution takes an antisymmetric form in K and apply the technique of weighted spaces with detached asymptotics, i.e. we use spaces where the functions have prescribed asymptotic forms in the outlets. After first showing that the corresponding Stokes problem admits a unique solution if and only if certain compatibility conditions are satisfied, we write the Navier–Stokes equations as a perturbation of the Stokes problem and the crucial compatibility condition as an algebraic equation by which the flux becomes determined. Assuming that the coefficient of the main (antisymmetric) asymptotic term of the solution in K does not vanish and that the data are sufficiently small, we use a contraction principle to solve the Navier–Stokes system coupled with the algebraic equation. Finally, we discuss the ill-posedness of the Navier–Stokes problem with prescribed flux.  相似文献

The nonstationary linearized Navier–Stokes system is studied in the domain with cylindrical outlets to infinity in weighted function spaces with an exponential weight function. It is proved that under natural compatibility conditions there exists a unique solution with prescribed fluxes over the sections of outlets to infinity that exponentially tends in each outlet to the corresponding nonstationary Poiseuille flow.Mathematics Subject classification (1991): 35Q30  相似文献

Abstract

The members of a set of conditional probability density functions are called compatible if there exists a joint probability density function that generates them. We generalize this concept by calling the conditionals functionally compatible if there exists a non-negative function that behaves like a joint density as far as generating the conditionals according to the probability calculus, but whose integral over the whole space is not necessarily finite. A necessary and sufficient condition for functional compatibility is given that provides a method of calculating this function, if it exists. A Markov transition function is then constructed using a set of functionally compatible conditional densities and it is shown, using the compatibility results, that the associated Markov chain is positive recurrent if and only if the conditionals are compatible. A Gibbs Markov chain, constructed via “Gibbs conditionals” from a hierarchical model with an improper posterior, is a special case. Therefore, the results of this article can be used to evaluate the consequences of applying the Gibbs sampler when the posterior's impropriety is unknown to the user. Our results cannot, however, be used to detect improper posteriors. Monte Carlo approximations based on Gibbs chains are shown to have undesirable limiting behavior when the posterior is improper. The results are applied to a Bayesian hierarchical one-way random effects model with an improper posterior distribution. The model is simple, but also quite similar to some models with improper posteriors that have been used in conjunction with the Gibbs sampler in the literature.  相似文献

We study a sequence of polynomials orthogonal with respect to a one-parameter family of weights defined for x∈[0,1]. If t=0, this reduces to a shifted Jacobi weight. Our ladder operator formalism and the associated compatibility conditions give an easy determination of the recurrence coefficients. For t>0, the factor induces an infinitely strong zero at x=0. With the aid of the compatibility conditions, the recurrence coefficients are expressed in terms of a set of auxiliary quantities that satisfy a system of difference equations. These, when suitably combined with a pair of Toda-like equations derived from the orthogonality principle, show that the auxiliary quantities are particular Painlevé V and/or allied functions. It is also shown that the logarithmic derivative of the Hankel determinant, satisfies the Jimbo–Miwa–Okamoto σ-form of the Painlevé V equation and that the same quantity satisfies a second-order non-linear difference equation which we believe to be new.  相似文献

On Compatibility of Interval Fuzzy Preference Relations   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
This paper defines the concept of compatibility degree of two interval fuzzy preference relations, and gives a compatibility index of two interval fuzzy preference relations. It is proven that an interval fuzzy preference relation B and the synthetic interval fuzzy preference relation of interval fuzzy preference relations A 1,A 2,...,A s are of acceptable compatibility under the condition that the interval fuzzy preference relation B and each of the interval fuzzy preference relations A l,A 2,...,A s are of acceptable compatibility, and thus a theoretic basis has been developed for the application of the interval fuzzy preference relations in group decision making.  相似文献

The k-out-of-n model is commonly used in reliability theory. In this model the failure of any component of the system does not influence the components still at work. Sequential k-out-of-n systems have been introduced as an extension of k-out-of-n systems where the failure of some component of the system may influence the remaining ones. We consider nonparametric estimation of the cumulative hazard function, the reliability function and the quantile function of sequential k-out-of-n systems. Furthermore, nonparametric hypothesis testing for sequential k-out-of-n-systems is examined. We make use of counting processes to show strong consistency and weak convergence of the estimators and to derive the asymptotic distribution of the test statistics.  相似文献

We study a class of compressible non‐Newtonian fluids in one space dimension. We prove, by using iterative method, the global time existence and uniqueness of strong solutions provided that the initial data satisfy a compatibility condition and the initial density is small in its H1‐norm. The main difficulty is due to the strong nonlinearity of the system and the initial vacuum. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

On the basis of H.Weyl's and E.Wigners's theories there is constructed the fuzzy model of canonically conjugate fuzzy subsets. On the ground of introduced characteristic interval the optimal shape of information function is obtained. By this information function the formula for compatibility function is obtained, Φ(α /2), where is a parameter assigned by expert, Φ(·) is probability interval. We establish the connection between the dispersions of canonically conjugate fuzzy subsets, presented in the fuzzy form. On the base of this formula the generalized information theory is constructed, which enable to estimate the constant c. As an example it is considered the method of fuzzy differential equation solution. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

In this paper the problem of the compatibility and the equivalence of the tangency relations of sets of the classesA * p,k having the Darboux property at the pointp in generalized metric space (E,l) is considered. Some sufficient conditions for the compatibility and the equivalence of the tangency relations have been given here.  相似文献

For every positive integer d we define the q-analog of multiple zeta function of depth d and study its properties, generalizing the work of Kaneko et al. who dealt with the case d=1. We first analytically continue it to a meromorphic function on ℂ d with explicit poles. In our Main Theorem we show that its limit when q 1 is the ordinary multiple zeta function. Then we consider some special values of these functions when d=2. At the end of the paper we also propose the q-analogs of multiple polylogarithms by using Jackson’s q-iterated integrals and then study some of their properties. Our definition is motivated by those of Koornwinder and Schlesinger although theirs are slightly different from ours. Partially supported by NSF grant DMS0139813 and DMS0348258.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to find optimal estimates for the Green function of a half-space of the relativistic α -stable process with parameter m on ℝ d space. This process has an infinitesimal generator of the form mI–(m 2/α IΔ) α/2, where 0<α<2, m>0, and reduces to the isotropic α-stable process for m=0. Its potential theory for open bounded sets has been well developed throughout the recent years however almost nothing was known about the behaviour of the process on unbounded sets. The present paper is intended to fill this gap and we provide two-sided sharp estimates for the Green function for a half-space. As a byproduct we obtain some improvements of the estimates known for bounded sets. Our approach combines the recent results obtained in Byczkowski et al. (Bessel Potentials, Hitting Distributions and Green Functions (2006) (preprint). ), where an explicit integral formula for the m-resolvent of a half-space was found, with estimates of the transition densities for the killed process on exiting a half-space. The main result states that the Green function is comparable with the Green function for the Brownian motion if the points are away from the boundary of a half-space and their distance is greater than one. On the other hand for the remaining points the Green function is somehow related the Green function for the isotropic α-stable process. For example, for d≥3, it is comparable with the Green function for the isotropic α-stable process, provided that the points are close enough. Research supported by KBN Grants.  相似文献

A n-order iterative functional equation is considered for set-value function in a nonempty convex compact subset D in Banach space. A result on the existence and uniqueness of its solution is presented without monotonicity. Besides, continuous dependence of the solution upon the given function is obtained.  相似文献

We obtain a priori estimates for solutions to the prescribed scalar curvature equation on S 3. The usual non-degeneracy assumption on the curvature function is replaced by a new condition, which is necessary and sufficient for the existence of a priori estimates, when the curvature function is a positive Morse function.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove the Saint‐Venant compatibility conditions in Lp for p∈(1,+), in a simply connected domain of any space dimension. As a consequence, alternative, simple, and direct proofs of some classical Korn inequalities in Lp are provided. We also use the Helmholtz decomposition in Lp to show that every symmetric tensor in a smooth domain can be decomposed in a compatible part, which is the symmetric part of a displacement gradient, and in an incompatible part, which is the incompatibility of a certain divergence‐free tensor. Moreover, under a suitable Dirichlet boundary condition, this Beltrami‐type decomposition is proved to be unique. This decomposition result has several applications, one of which being in dislocation models, where the incompatibility part is related to the dislocation density and where 1 < p < 2. This justifies the need to generalize and prove these rather classical results in the Hilbertian case (p = 2), to the full range p∈(1,+). Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Embedding problems with a group and its Sylow p-subgroup over p-extensions of fields are considered. The Faddeev-Hasse compatibility condition for these problems is studied. It is proved that the compatibility conditions for the problems under consideration are equivalent if the kernel of the problem is a supersolvable group or a Sylow p-subgroup is an invariant subgroup. In this paper, we study the compatibility of Cohen-Lenstra heuristics with Leopoldt's Spiegelungssatz (= the reflection theorem) in the case of cyclic function fields. First, we prove a group-theoretical version of the Spiegelungssatz for cyclic function fields. Then we show the internal consistency of the function field analogue of Cohen-Lenstra heuristics in the case of cyclic function fields. It thus supports the validity of Cohen-Lenstra heuristics in function fields.  相似文献

We introduce a notion ofq-analogue of the perfect numbers. We also define a new zeta function which we call a zeta function ofq-perfect numbers. In this paper, the properties of theq-perfect numbers and the zeta functions are studied. Especially, we determine theq-perfect numbers whenq is a root of unity.  相似文献

In this paper, a class of functions, named as r-semipreinvex functions, which is generalization of semipreinvex functions and r-preinvex functions, is introduced. Example is given to show that there exists function which is r-semipreinvex function, but is not semipreinvex function. Furthermore, some basic characterizations of r-semipreinvex functions are established. At the same time, some optimality results are obtained in nonlinear programming problems.  相似文献

Let ?? and ?? be graph classes. We say that ?? has the Erd?s–Pósa property for ?? if for any graph G ∈??, the minimum vertex covering of all ??‐subgraphs of G is bounded by a function f of the maximum packing of ??‐subgraphs in G (by ??‐subgraph of G we mean any subgraph of G that belongs to ??). Robertson and Seymour [J Combin Theory Ser B 41 (1986), 92–114] proved that if ?? is the class of all graphs that can be contracted to a fixed planar graph H, then ?? has the Erd?s–Pósa property for the class of all graphs with an exponential bounding function. In this note, we prove that this function becomes linear when ?? is any non‐trivial minor‐closed graph class. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 66:235‐240, 2011  相似文献
