Finite groups acting 2-transitively on their sylow subgroups

In this paper we have completely determined: (1) all almost simple groups which act 2-transitively on one of their sets of Sylow p-subgroups. (2) all non-abelian simple groups T whose automorphism group acts 2-transitively on one of the sets of Sylow p-subgroups of T. (3) all finite groups which are 2-transitive on all their sets of Sylow subgroups. A characterization of the finite simple groups with set of indices of their maximal subgroups

We study the problem concerning the influence of indices of maximal subgroups of a simple group on the structure of a group. We obtain a characterization property of all finite simple groups.     

The average number of Sylow subgroups of a finite group

We prove that if the average Sylow number (ignoring the Sylow numbers that are one) of a finite group G is ?7, then G is solvable.

令Ｒ为有限交换局部环，Ｍ表其唯一的极大理想，ｋ表其剩余类域．本文定出了Ｒ上的一般线性群ＧＬｎＲ，辛群Ｓｐ２ｎＲ及双曲正交群Ｏ２ｎＲ的Ｓｙｌｏｗ子群．一般讲，若ｃｈａｒｘ＝ｐ，上述三类典型群的Ｓｙｌｏｗ ｐ－子群分别同构于由某些特殊形式的矩阵生成的子群；若ｃｈａｒｋ≠ｐ，上述三类典型群的Ｓｙｌｏｗｐ－子群分别同构于一循环群或半二面体群与若干Ｚｐ型循环群的圈积。     

Indecomposable Sylow 2-Subgroups of Simple Groups

Let S be a Sylow 2-subgroup of a finite simple group and let S=S₁×S₂××S_k be the direct product and each component S_i, i=1,2,...,k is indecomposable. In this article, we prove that each S_i is also a Sylow 2-subgroup of some simple group. Mathematics Subject Classifications (2000) 20E32, 20D20.     

Normal Sylow subgroups and monomial Brauer characters

Let G be a finite group, p be a prime divisor of |G|, and P be a Sylow p-subgroup of G. We prove that P is normal in a solvable group G if |G : ker φ|p' = φ(1)p' for every nonlinear irreducible monomial p-Brauer character φ of G, where ker φ is the kernel of φ and φ(1)p' is the p'-part of φ(1).     

Maximal and Sylow Subgroups of Solvable Finite Groups

The structure of finite solvable groups in which any Sylow subgroup is the product of two cyclic subgroups is studied. In particular, it is proved that the nilpotent length of such a group is no greater than 4. It is also proved that the nilpotent length of a finite solvable group in which the index of any maximal subgroup is either a prime or the square of a prime or the cube of a prime does not exceed 5.     

Finite Sylow Subgroups in Simple Locally Finite Groups of Lie Type

The main result of the paper is the followingTheorem. Let S = {r₀, r₁, ..., r_n} be a finite nonempty set of primes and let L be a Lie type of Chevalley groups. Then there exists a locally finite field F of characteristic r₀ such that Sylow r-subgroups of the simple group L(F) of type L over F are finite if and only if r ? S.     

Locally Transitive Graphs Admitting a Group with Cyclic Sylow Subgroups

All graphs are finite simple undirected and of no isolated vertices in this paper. Using the theory of coset graphs and permutation groups, it is completed that a classification of locally transitive graphs admitting a non-Abelian group with cyclic Sylow subgroups. They are either the union of the family of arc-transitive graphs, or the union of the family of bipartite edge-transitive graphs.     

On the group with the same orders of Sylow normalizers as the finite projective special unitary group

In this paper we prove that a finite group G is isomorphic to the finite projective special unitary group Un(q) if and only if they have the same order of Sylow r-normalizer for every prime r.     

Finite groups in which Sylow normalizers have nilpotent Hall supplements

The normalizer of each Sylow subgroup of a finite group G has a nilpotent Hall supplement in G if and only if G is soluble and every tri-primary Hall subgroup H (if exists) of G satisfies either of the following two statements: (i) H has a nilpotent bi-primary Hall subgroup; (ii) Let π(H) = {p, q, r}. Then there exist Sylow p-, q-, r-subgroups H _p , H _q , and H _r of H such that H _q ? N _H (H _p ), H _r ? N _H (H _q ), and H _p ? N _H (H _r ).     

On g-s-supplemented subgroups of finite groups

A subgroup H of a group G is said to be g-s-supplemented in G if there exists a subgroup K of G such that HK⊴G and H ∩ K ⩽ H _sG , where H_sG is the largest s-permutable subgroup of G contained in H. By using this new concept, we establish some new criteria for a group G to be soluble.
