Dispersion characteristics and wave impedance for the even and odd modes of the broad side coupled dielectric image guides are computed by using mode matching techniques. Dispersion curves for broadside image guide are plotted for various dielectric materials and dimensional parameters as a function of frequency. Normalized electric field for dominant electric field component E of TM even and odd modes for various half spacings between two dielectric slabs of broadside coupled image guide have been plotted. Polysterene ( r=2.56) and Stycast ( r=3.4) have been used as dielectric materials in fabricating broadside coupled image guide. This broadside coupled dielectric guide is very convenient as compared to the other dielectric guides. Since in case of broadside coupled image guide the dielectric slab can be bonded to the side metallic walls using some low loss adhesive material, while in other coupled dielectric guides the dielectric slab have to be supported by some low dielectric constant material (Eccofoam with r=1.02) to maintain the proper distance of side metallic walls from the dielectric slab. Since this structure is symmetrical, this configuration can be analysed in terms of even and odd mode phase velocities. The difference in these even and off mode phase velocities can be used to determine the coupling between coupled dielectric slab. Various couplers in this configuration can be realised.  相似文献

Three-dimensionally periodic dielectric structures, (photonic crystals), possessing a forbidden gap for electromagnetic wave propagation, (a photonic bandgap), are now known. If the perfect 3-dimensional periodicity is broken by a local defect, then local electromagnetic modes can occur within the forbidden bandgap. The addition of extra dielectric material locally, inside the photonic crystal, produces donor modes. Conversely, the local removal of dielectric material from the photonic crystal produces acceptor modes. It will now be possible to make high-Q electromagnetic cavities of volume 1 cubic wavelength, for short wavelengths at which metallic cavities are useless. These new dielectric cavities can cover the range all the way from millimeter waves, down to ultraviolet wavelengths.  相似文献

A mean spherical model of classical dipoles on a simple cubic lattice of sideM=2N+1 sites is considered. Exact results are obtained for finite systems using periodic boundary conditions with an external dielectric constant and using reaction field boundary conditions with a cutoff radiusR c N and an external dielectric constant. The dielectric constant in the disordered phase is calculated using a variety of fluctuation formulas commonly implemented in Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulations of dipolar systems. The coupling in the system is measured by the parametery=4 2/9kT, where 2 is the fixed mean square value of the dipole moments on the lattice. The system undergoes a phase transition aty2.8, so that very high dielectric constants cannot be obtained in the disordered phase. The results show clearly the effects of system size, cutoff radius, external dielectric constant, and different measuring techniques on a dielectric constant estimate. It is concluded that with periodic boundary conditions, the rate of approach of the dielectric constant estimate to its thermodynamic limit is asN –2/3 and depends only weakly on. Methods of implementing reaction field boundary conditions to give rapid convergence to the thermodynamic limit are discussed.  相似文献

To investigate the effective linear dielectric constant and third-order nonlinear susceptibility of composite media, in which graded inclusions with radial dielectric anisotropy are randomly embedded in a linear isotropic matrix, we develop an nonlinear anisotropic differential effective dipole approximation (NADEDA). Alternatively, based on a first-principles approach, the exact expressions for and are also derived for the linear dielectric profiles with small slopes. Then, excellent agreement between the two methods is numerically demonstrated. As an application, we further apply the NADEDA to a nonlinear metal-dielectric composite, in which the metal particles possess spatially varying radial dielectric anisotropy, in an attempt to study the nonlinearity enhancement and the figure of merit of the composite. To this end, it is shown that the presence of gradation in the radial dielectric constant plays a crucial role in enhancing the optical nonlinearity as well as the figure of merit.Received: 16 August 2003, Published online: 30 January 2004PACS: 77.22.Ej Polarization and depolarization - 42.65.-k Nonlinear optics - 42.79.Ry Gradient-index (GRIN) devices - 77.84.Lf Composite materials  相似文献

We have theoretically studied the non-linear dielectric effect in the isotropic phase of antiferroelectric liquid crystals on the basis of phenomenological theory. We find an analytical expression for the non-linear dielectric effect in the isotropic phase of the transition. The temperature dependence of the non-linear dielectric effect is presented in the isotropic phase of the transition.  相似文献

In this contribution we have studied the key electrical parameters of silica aerogels and of silica-aerogel-based composites, namely the dielectric constants , the dielectric losses tan (at 1 kHz), and the breakdown fields E b (at 50 Hz). For low-density bulk silica aerogels we find =1.25 and tan =0.0005. E b is about 500 kV/cm in quasi-homogeneous fields, and of the order of MV/cm in strongly inhomogeneous fields. The dielectric constants of partially densified aerogels increase linearly with density; their dielectric losses are relatively large and their breakdown fields are comparativiely low. The same results are found for aerogels in the form of settled materials, i.e. aerogel granules and powders in air. Acrylate-based aerogel composites with volume fractions larger than 70% have low dielectric constants but their losses are at least 10 times higher than those of low-density aerogels. These materials sustain high local fields in the MV/cm region, while in quasihomogeneous fields, breakdown occurs at about 100 kV/cm. Based on the present results and the interplay with other physical properties (low mechanical resistance, low thermal conductivity, adsorption of water, etc.), silica aerogels and silica aerogel-acrylate-based composites are predicted to have a low potential for electrical insulation.  相似文献

Temperature and frequency dependence of dielectric permittivity and tangent of the dielectric loss angle are studied in epitaxial gallium arsenide structures. It is shown that nonmonotonic change in with temperature is caused by change in the volume of conductive gallium microinclusions and a difference between the structural perfection of the layer and substrate. The space charge relaxation time on inhomogeneities is evaluated (10–5–10–6 sec) and its contribution to GaAs dielectric properties is evaluated. An oscillation in dielectric permittivity upon heating is observed and explained.Deceased.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 2, pp. 18–21, February, 1989.  相似文献

Several basic properties of homogeneous planar Whispering Gallery dielectric resonators are investigated through a general approach. In particular the values for the minimum and maximum allowed radius, defined by irradiation and dielectric losses, respectively, are obtained in terms of the complex dielectric constant of the involved media. The same approach is employed in the analysis of the limit allowed frequencies of a fixed family of mode, leading to the definition of the ideal frequency band. The role of the transverse mode is then discussed, and the effective frequency band is introduced and determined both in simple disc and circular ring resonators. The extension of the effective band is limited at least by a factor 3, in terms of decades, in comparison to the extension of the ideal one; this limitation, due to the presence of transverse modes, can be overcome using suitable designed nonhomogeneous resonators, as discussed in a following companion paper.  相似文献

The variation of dielectric constant? of pyrolusite (sintered polycrystalline ore of MnO2) with temperature, frequency and voltage has been studied within the frequency range 200 c/s to 10 kc/s. The samples studied show a very high value of dielectric constant ≈ 105. The?-temperature curve indicates that? attains a maximum value at a certain temperature. The temperature at which? attains a maximum value appears to vary from sample to sample. At higher temperatures (i.e. higher than that at which? attains a maximum value),? decreases with temperature as?=c/(T?Θ). The dielectric constant is dependent on the frequency; it has a higher value at lower frequencies. The applied voltage across the specimen has a marked influence on the dielectric constant, which increases rapidly with voltage. A capacity with pyrolusite as dielectric shows a hysteresis loop (electrical). The dielectric loss factor tanδ is found to depend on temperature, frequency and voltage. Tanδ attains a maximum value at lower range of frequencies between 300 c/s to 700 c/s, for a given voltage, and temperature. This indicates the existence of dielectric relaxation for these specimens. Tanδ also varies exponentially with temperature. Samples of pyrolusite studied show a piezo electric effect as well. The electromechanical coupling coefficient is found to vary from 2·4×10?5 to 8·8×10?5 e.s.u/ dyne. Slabs cut from the samples of pyrolusite mineral were found to control the frequency of a Hartley oscillatory circuit. The resonant frequency range was found to increase as the thickness of the slab is reduced.  相似文献

An efficient method to model guided and leaky modes of anisotropic dielectric waveguides with arbitratry dielectric tensor ¯¯ is presented. This method takes advantage of a particular -formulation approach of the finite element method (FEM), leading to an optimized use of the computational resources.  相似文献

Different instrumental apparatuses are presented employing disc-shaped dielectric resonators working in the Whispering Gallery Mode (WGM). The conditions suitable to take the best from the microwave power obtained from a trade klystron in the X-band have been verified for the ESR part of the experiments. It is well known that a good ESR saturation condition is an essential prerequisite to have satisfactory ENDOR results. The WGM dielectric resonators seem to be very suitable for multiple irradiation purposes and in particular for ENDOR experiments which is the aspect we wanted to exploit here. Various radiofrequency ENDOR irradiation circuits have been tested and the obtained spectra of a γ-irradiated single crystal are presented and criticized. Some results for very high frequency ESR applications are also reported.  相似文献

The influence of annealing in atmospheres of HCl, CO2, nitrogen and air on the absorption and dielectric losses of NaCl crystals is examined. The reasons for a decrease or even the disappearance of the absorption band near 1900 Å in unannealed hydrolized crystals are discussed. Further, the causes of the shift of the relaxation maximum of the dielectric losses of pure NaCl crystals were studied. We should like to express our gratitude to Dr. Bohun for a discussion of the results, to Dr. Trnka for the preparation of the crystal and to Z. Klímová for performing the absorption measurements.  相似文献

Results are offered from a study of thin film strontium tantalate (SrTa2O6) obtained by vacuum hf deposition. Temperature and frequency dependences of electrical conductivity, , tan , and thermostimulted dielectric depolarization current are studied in Al-SrTa2O6-Al structures. Point defect parameters and their distribution over energy in the dielectric forbidden zone are determined. Polarization and electrical conductivity mechanisms are considered, and it is concluded that strontium tantalate shows promise as a dielectric material for integrated circuits.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 7, pp. 61–65, July, 1989.  相似文献

The model under consideration is a semi-infinite two-dimensional two-component plasma (Coulomb gas), stable against bulk collapse for the dimensionless coupling constant <2, in contact with a dielectric wall of dielectric constant =0. The model is mapped onto an integrable sine-Gordon theory with a free Neumann boundary condition. Using recent results on a reflection relationship between the boundary Liouville and sine-Gordon theories, an explicit expression is derived for the surface tension at a rectilinear dielectric – Coulomb gas interface. This expression reproduces the Debye-Hückel 0 limit and the exact result at the bulk collapse border, the free-fermion point =2, where the surface tension keeps a finite value. The surface collapse, identified with the divergence of the surface tension, occurs at =3.  相似文献

Sol–gel deposition of highly oriented Ba0.5Sr0.5TiO3:MgO composite thin films has shown desirable dielectric constant reduction and higher figure of merit for phase-shifter applications. In this multilayer configuration, MgO distributed homogeneously through the Ba0.5Sr0.5TiO3 (BST50) matrix, and it helped in tailoring the dielectric constant and reducing the loss tangent significantly. In the present study, the high-frequency dielectric behavior of the films has been evaluated by fabricating an eight-element coupled microstrip phase shifter and measuring the degree of phase shift and insertion loss as a function of applied voltage at room temperature. An increase in phase-shifter figure of merit (degree of phase shift per dB insertion loss) from 28°/dB for pure BST50 to 71°/dB for a BST50:MgO film (at 14 GHz and 333 kV/cm) has been observed.
