COMAR is the international database for certified reference materials. A new user-friendly web-based version, COMAR2, has been developed by BAM and CONET Consulting AG which will be available in December 2002.  In the field of reference materials, COMAR (Code d'Indexation des Matériaux de Référence) is now internationally known as a reliable directory. In order to improve the quality of COMAR, a document which covers general requirements for the registration of reference material has recently been adopted by the Japanese coding centre, NITE. This paper describes the general requirements for reference materials and the current status of the COMAR database coded by the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE), Japan. The concept of the requirements is fundamentally based on the ISO Guides 30, 31, 33, 34 and 35. Certifications of reference materials are divided into the following three categories in the newly adopted document. 1. Certifications based on the results of interlaboratory comparisons 2. Certifications in accordance with the Measurement Law 3. Certifications in accordance with the measurement results of national institutions An example of an uncertainty evaluation is also presented in the paper. The international joint project HYCREF (Contract No. G6RD-CT-2002-00854), funded by the European Commission in the 5th Framework programme, aimed to develop methods to prepare homogeneous and stable reference materials of water, soil, and waste contaminated with mineral oil hydrocarbons and to certify the mineral oil content by gas chromatographic methods. The results of a feasibility study for the preparation of three soil reference materials are discussed in this paper, and for the preparation of three waste reference materials in the second part (Koch et al., Accred Qual Assur submitted for publication). The soil materials were selected to represent different soil types and contamination levels. The project plan set three requirements for these reference materials: uncertainty in the mineral oil content resulting from the certification exercise <5%, a sample inhomogeneity of <3% and a minimum long-term stability of 5 years. For the most part, these requirements were met within this project.  相似文献

The Database COMAR now includes data from more than 8640 CRMs supplied by 180 producers in 24 countries. These data are divided into 8 main categories, containing up to 10 sub-categories. Quality of life as well as biological and clinical CRMs are two main categories where a great increase could be observed in the past years. These fields represent approximately 20|X% of the data records. Therefore it will be possible to gather different statistical information from these data.  相似文献

 The National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) recently prepared two candidate certified reference materials (CRMs) for arsenicals to meet the growing demand for the quality assurance of arsenic speciation analysis. The NIES candidate CRM No. 14 Brown Alga was prepared from Hijiki seaweed for the certification of inorganic arsenic content, and No. 15 Scallop was prepared from adductor muscle of scallop for the certification of arsenobetaine content. The preparation of the candidate CRMs is briefly described. Cooperative analyses for total arsenic content of the candidate CRMs have been underway. The preliminary speciation analysis at NIES revealed difficulty in establishing suitable conditions for extracting arsenic species from the materials. Chromatograms of arsenic species by a high performance liquid chromatography-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometric detection system are presented to provide information about arsenic species present in these candidate CRMs.  相似文献

Well-characterized reference materials are needed by laboratories in the food testing and nutrition communities to facilitate compliance with nutritional labeling laws, to provide traceability for food exports needed for acceptance in many foreign markets, and to improve the accuracy of nutrition information that is provided to assist consumers in making sound dietary choices. As a result of the enactment of the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act of 1990 and the Infant Formula Act of 1980, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has developed a suite of food-matrix Standard Reference Materials (SRMs) characterized for nutrient concentrations. These include SRM 1544 Fatty Acids and Cholesterol in a Frozen Diet Composite, SRM 1546 Meat Homogenate, SRM 1548a Typical Diet, SRM 1566b Oyster Tissue, SRM 1846 Infant Formula, SRM 1946 Lake Superior Fish Tissue, SRM 2383 Baby Food Composite, SRM 2384 Baking Chocolate, SRM 2385 Spinach, and SRM 2387 Peanut Butter. Many of these materials were developed at the request of the food industry to populate a nine-sectored fat-protein-carbohydrate triangle developed by AOAC International. With the completion of SRM 2387, SRMs representing each sector of the triangle are now available. These food-matrix reference materials are intended primarily for validation of analytical methods for the measurement of proximates, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and so on in foods of similar composition. They may also be used as "primary control materials" in the value-assignment of in-house, secondary, control materials to confirm accuracy as well as to establish traceability to NIST.  相似文献

The comparability of data from accredited laboratories is not always as good as customers would desire. A number of reasons for this fact are given. Clients of laboratories do not specify methodology, which may lead to the application of systematically different methods or to methodology with improper performance characteristics. Laboratories do not always validate methodology sufficiently which is, however, among others provoked by a lack of reference materials. It is argued that accreditation cannot enforce comparability on itself, but needs to be embedded in a measurement infrastructure. The quality systems which underly accreditation form a basic element. In addition, adequate methods, good laboratory performance studies and certified reference materials are required.  相似文献

For accurate measurement of concentrations of substances by instrumental analysis, reliable calibration standards are needed. In Japan, national reference materials are supplied under the national standards dissemination system named the Japan Calibration Service System (JCSS). In JCSS, calibration standards for the analysis of environmental pollutants are supplied. For the traceability to the SI of reference materials for calibration in JCSS, the National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ) is developing high-purity reference materials of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as NMIJ CRMs. The freezing-point depression method, which has potential as a primary method of measurement, is employed for the determination of property value. A semi-preparative high-performance liquid chromatography process was evaluated as a tool to quantitatively determine the purity or percentage mass fraction content (% m/m) of organic compounds. The method is simple and does not require the identification and subsequent quantitation of organic-related structure impurities. A protocol was developed and tested on four reference materials certified for purity from 95% m/m to 99.3% m/m. Comparing the purity results of each certified reference material using the new approach with their respective certified values showed no significant analytical bias. Semi-preparative high-performance liquid chromatography has proved the potential to be a primary method directly traceable to mass with an uncertainty statement written down also in terms of mass with expanding uncertainty ranging from 0.8% to 1.3% m/m compared to 0.3 to 2.0% m/m for the certified purity values at the 95% confidence interval.  相似文献

For the past 25 years the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has developed certified reference materials (CRMs), known as standard reference materials (SRMs), for determination of organic contaminants in environmental matrices. Assignment of certified concentrations has usually been based on combining results from two or more independent analytical methods. The first-generation environmental-matrix SRMs were issued with certified concentrations for a limited number (5 to 10) of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Improvements in the analytical certification approach significantly expanded the number and classes of contaminants determined. Environmental-matrix SRMs currently available include air and diesel particulate matter, coal tar, marine and river sediment, mussel tissue, fish oil and tissue, and human serum, with concentrations typically assigned for 50 to 90 organic contaminants, for example PAHs, nitro-substituted PAHs, PCBs, chlorinated pesticides, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). Matrix certified reference materials (CRMs) are playing an increasingly important role in environmental monitoring in Japan. The National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ)/National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) has been developing matrix CRMs for environmental monitoring since 2001, and has issued nine kinds of CRMs as NMIJ CRMs. The development of the CRMs was conducted in NMIJ in cooperation with candidate material producers. The isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS) was principally adopted to give reliable certified values. Meanwhile, two or more analytical methods, whose levels of accuracy were well evaluated, were applied to avoid any possible analytical bias. Two typical certification processes, the certification of river water CRMs for trace element analysis and that of marine sediment CRMs for PCB and organochlorine pesticide analysis, are outlined as examples. Certified reference materials (CRMs) are playing an increasingly important role in environmental monitoring in Japan. The National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ)/National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) has been developing CRMs of organic calibration solutions since 2003, and has issued several NMIJ CRMs. The development of these materials was conducted at the NMIJ in cooperation with candidate material producers. The freezing-point depression method was principally adopted for assessment of the purity of starting materials to give reliable certified values. Gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC–FID) and/or high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), which are based on independent principles and whose levels of accuracy are well evaluated, were applied in combination with other methods to avoid any possible analytical bias. Purity assessment is outlined for two typical examples, 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl)ethane (p,p′-DDD) and 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl)ethane (p,p′-DDT), which were used as starting materials for a CRM under development. Methods adopted for gravimetric preparation and ampouling of solutions were qualified and optimized to reduce the uncertainties of certified values due to these factors. Furthermore, a new experimental scheme for assessment of stability and preparation variation is proposed for the proper estimation of uncertainties. The ICTAC Committee on Standardisation has formed a Task Group to investigate the suitability of the ICTAC Certified Reference Materials for DTA, covering the temperature range 450°–1100°C, for accurate temperature calibration purposes and to evaluate their potential as enthalpy calibrants for DTA and DSC equipment. This paper reports the results of preliminary round-robin studies on barium carbonate and strontium carbonate, using a dual-point calibration method based on the melting points of aluminium and gold. In addition the fusion of ICTAC potassium sulphate has been investigated as a possible calibration transition.  相似文献

The interlaboratory variability in the quantification of adsorbable organically bound halogens (AOX) in industrially contaminated soil is presented. Three consecutive rounds of a proficiency testing scheme, in which between 88 and 119 routine laboratories participated, yielded relative reproducibility standard deviations between 7 and 20% at AOX contents between 10.9 and 268 mg kg−1. Nineteen laboratories with established proficiency were invited to participate in the certification of the AOX content in three soil reference materials meant for the internal quality control in analytical laboratories. The certified values are (1349 ± 59) mg kg−1, (80 ± 7) mg kg−1 and (102 ± 8) mg kg−1, respectively.  相似文献

 Certified reference materials are widely used for the calibration of measuring equipment and for the evaluation or validation of measurement procedures. The use of reference materials makes possible the transfer of the values of measured or assigned quantities between testing, analytical and measurement laboratories, both nationally and internationally. There is an increasing number of reference materials producers in other countries, and a demonstration of their scientific and technical competence is now more widely considered to be a basic requirement for ensuring the quality of reference materials. This article outlines recent activities by international bodies and their culmination in a scheme of accreditation of certifiers of reference materials which has been developed by the National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA).  相似文献
