The monoalkylation of aliphatic and aromatic primary amines can be accomplished by the reaction of organolithium or Grignard reagents with N-(cyanomethyl) or N-(aminomethyl) derivatives.     

Synthesis of homoharringtonine and its derivative by partial esterification of cephalotaxine.

Homoharringtonine $\text{2}$ and dehydrodesoxy homoharringtonine $\text{4}$ were synthesized by partial esterification of cephalotaxine.     

A Wittig reaction on mucochloric and mucobromic acids. Preparation of ethyl (2E, 4Z -4,5-dihalo-2,4-pentadienoates and alkyl 2E -5-bromo-2-penten-4-ynoates

Reaction of mucochloric and mucobromic acid with (ethoxycarbonylmethylene) triphenyl-phosphorane affords the ethyl ester of (2$\text{E}$, 4$\text{Z}$ -4,5-dichloro- and (2$\text{E}$, 4$\text{Z}$) -4, 5-dibromo-2,4-pentadienoic acid respectively; in the latter case ethyl (2$\text{E}$ -5-bromo-2-penten-4-ynoate is formed concomittantly.     

Sesquiterpenes from termite soldiers. Structure of amiteol,a new 5β, 7β, 10β-eudesmane from amitermesexcellens

The defense secretions of termite soldiers in the genera $\text{Amitermes}$, $\text{Noditermes}$, and $\text{Prorhinotermes}$ contain sesqueterpene hydrocarbons, alcohols and ethers. Three new eudesmanes possessing the hitherto unknown 5β, 7β, 10β configuration were identified from $\text{Amitermes}$$\text{excellens}$.     

Total synthesis of 5-desoxyleukotriene D. A new and useful equivalent of the 4-formyl-trans, trans-1,3-butadienyl anion

The first total synthesis of 5-desoxyleukotriene D ($\text{14}$) is reported. The route of synthesis utilizes a novel method for five-carbon chain extension. The availability of $\text{14}$ allowed experimental demonstration that the 5-hydroxyl function is important for biological activity of the slow reacting substances.     

A chiral intermediate for thienamycin analogue synthesis: (3S,4R)-4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-3-[(R)-1-(4-nitrobenzyloxycarbonyloxy)etryl]azetidin-2-one

Incorporation of a chiral ketone into the established tetrahydro-1,3-oxazine route to thienamycin analogues, has enabled the isolation of single enantiomers having the naturally occurring ($\text{R}$)-configuration at the bridgehead.
