Single crystals of non‐linear optical (NLO) LAHClBr were grown by slow evaporation technique from its aqueous solution. Good optical quality crystals having dimensions up to 12 × 9 × 7 mm3 were obtained. The lattice parameters and morphology for the grown crystals were determined using single crystal XRD. The crystals were characterized by FT‐Raman, optical absorption, thermal (DTA and TGA) and dielectric studies. LAHClBr was found to be thermally stable up to 124.3°C. Single crystals of bis-glycine hydrogen chloride (BGHC), a semiorganic nonlinear optical (NLO) material, have been grown by slow solvent evaporation technique. Good optical quality single crystals with dimensions up to 33×5×5 mm3 are obtained. The crystals are characterized by optical transmission spectrum, FTIR and X-ray diffraction studies. The thermal stability of the crystal is studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of BGHC was found to be 5.6 times that of KDP. The laser damage threshold values studied in single shot mode indicates that BGHC crystal possesses a fairly high value of 9.8 GW/cm2 and thus the NLO studies confirmed the superiority of BGHC over KDP and urea crystals. The dielectric constant of the crystal was studied as a function of frequency and the results are discussed.  相似文献

Nonlinear optical single crystals of YCOB with good optical quality were grown by the flux technique for the first time. Polycrystalline YCOB samples were synthesized by solid state reaction method. The thermal analysis of the sample was performed with lithium carbonate flux in different weight proportions and the growth temperature was optimised. Single crystals of YCOB with dimensions 3 × 3 × 5 mm3 were obtained by the method of ‘slow‐cooling’. The grown crystals were characterized by XRD, UV‐VIS‐NIR, EDAX, FTIR and etching studies. The powder XRD pattern revealed the formation of YCOB compound. The lattice parameters were identified through single crystal XRD studies. The UV‐VIS‐NIR results showed that the crystal has a sharp cutoff at 220 nm and is nearly 55% transparent over a wide wavelength range enabling applications in the UV region. The EDAX measurement revealed the ‘flux‐free’ crystal formation. The presence of the functional groups belonging to the YCOB crystals was identified by the FTIR results. ‘Hillock‐like’ patterns are observed in the etching studies. The primary emphasis in this study is laid to describe ‘flux technique’ as an alternative method to grow YCOB crystals. The results are presented and discussed. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The 50 MeV Si7+ ion irradiation induced modifications on structural, dielectric, optical and mechanical properties of Vertical Bridgman grown benzimidazole (BMZ) crystals were studied. The high resolution X‐ray diffraction studies show the quality of as grown BMZ and irradiated BMZ crystals. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss as a function of frequency and temperature was studied in detail. The ion induced mechanical behaviour of both as grown BMZ and irradiated BMZ crystals has been explained with the indentation effects using Vickers microhardness tester. UV‐VIS. studies reveal the decrease in bandgap values and defects on irradiation. The above results are discussed in detail. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

L‐arginine hydrochloride monohydrate (LAHCl.H2O) has been synthesized and single crystals have been grown from its aqueous solution by slow evaporation and slow cooling methods. The solubility of the material was measured at various temperatures and bulk crystals of size 26×13×11 mm3 have been grown by optimizing the growth parameters. The grown crystals have been subjected to single crystal XRD studies to confirm the structure and to estimate the lattice parameters. FTIR analysis indicate the mode of vibrations of different molecular groups present in LAHCl and confirm the protonation of guanidyl, amino groups and deprotonation of COO groups. UV‐Vis transmission spectrum revealed the linear optical properties of the grown crystals with a transparency of 65% over the entire visible range upto 300 nm. Thermal behavior of the grown crystal was investigated from DTA and TGA measurements. Dielectric studies have been carried out on the grown crystals. Kurtz and Perry powder SHG technique confirms the NLO property of the grown crystal. The SHG efficiency of LAHCl was found to be 0.38 with respect to KDP. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Single crystals of bis-glycine sodium nitrate (BGSN), a semi-organic nonlinear optical (NLO) material, have been grown by slow cooling method. Good optical quality single crystals with dimensions up to 1.6×1.6×1.0 cm3 are obtained. Using a single-crystal diffractometer, the morphology of BGSN crystal was identified. Powder X-ray diffraction confirms the crystalline nature of BGSN. The grown crystals were characterized by optical transmission spectrum (UV) and FTIR studies. The NLO property of the crystal was confirmed by Kurtz second harmonic generation (SHG) test, and the output power generated by the crystal was compared with that of KDP. The thermal stability of the crystal was studied by thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Micro hardness study was carried out for different planes, and the anisotropy behavior of the crystal was observed.  相似文献

Large size crystals of KH2PO4 (KDP) were grown by adopting rapid growth technique from point seeds in a 1500‐liter crystallizer which is used to grow KDP crystals by conventional method. The grown KDP crystal size can reach to 310 × 310 × 320 mm3 and the average growth rate was 8mm/day. The optic properties of the rapidly grown KDP crystals were characterized comparing with the KDP crystals grown by the traditional temperature reduction method. We found it that the optical quality of the KDP crystals we grown rapidly are not significantly different from those of KDP crystals grown by traditional method. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Good quality single crystals of Ni2+, Co2+ ions doped Bisthiourea Cadmium Chloride (BTCC) are some of the excellent and efficient non‐linear optical materials grown from aqueous solution by slow evaporation method. The lattice parameters of the grown crystals are determined by single crystal X‐ray analysis. UV spectral analyses on these samples reveal the improved transparency of the doped crystals ascertaining the inclusion of metal ion in the lattice. FTIR spectral analysis carried out on the materials confirm the presence of functional groups. Dielectric measurements reveal that the dielectric constant of pure and doped crystals decreases with increase of frequency. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Large, high optical quality single crystals of ruby have been grown successfully by the floating zone method under air atmosphere. The size of the grown crystal is typically 60‐70 mm in length and 7‐8 mm in diameter. The obtained crystals were red and did not have any macroscopic defects such as cracks and inclusions. Grown crystals were characterized by powder X‐ray diffraction (XRD) methods, polarized optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The absorption and fluorescence spectra were measured at room temperature and the dielectric constant measurements of ruby crystals were also presented. Defects occurring in single crystals of ruby during crystal growth by floating zone method are described, and their correlation with the growth parameters is discussed. The origin and control of these defects in grown crystals were studied and the optimum method was proposed. (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Tris (thiourea) zinc sulphate (ZTS), a semiorganic nonlinear optical (NLO) material has been synthesized at 30 °C. The solubility was determined in different solvents such as water, ethanol and water mixture of ethanol (1:1). Good quality single crystals with size 10 × 8 × 6 mm3 were grown by slow evaporation technique within three weeks with approximate growth rate of 0.5 mm/day. The grown crystals have been subjected to single crystal X-ray diffraction to determine the unit cell dimensions and morphology. The TGA and DTA reveal that the material has good thermal stability. The UV-Vis spectrum shows that the material has wide optical transparency in the entire visible region. The second harmonic generation was confirmed by Kurtz powder method. The birefringence of the crystal was measured in the visible region and it was found to vary with the wavelength. The microhardness test was carried out in (100) plane and the load dependent hardness was measured. (© 2004 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The synthesis of pyrazoles and its derivatives remains of great interest due to their wide applications in pharmaceutical and agrochemical industry. The 1‐phenyl‐3‐(propan‐2‐yl)‐1H‐pyrazol‐5‐ol was synthesized. The 1‐phenyl‐3‐(propan‐2‐yl)‐1H‐pyrazol‐5‐ol single crystals were grown by slow solvent evaporation technique using mixture of chloroform and methanol as a solvent. Yellowish and transparent crystals having maximum dimensions of 0.005 m × 0.004 m × 0.002 m were grown. The crystals were characterized by powder XRD, FT–IR, TG–DTA–DSC and dielectric study. The crystals remained stable up to 160 °C and then start decomposing. The DSC suggested both endothermic and exothermic reactions. One broad exothermic peak was observed at 558.1 °C due to complete decomposition of the sample into the gaseous phase and reaction within the products. Thermodynamic and Kinetic parameters of decomposition were calculated by Coats–Redfern formula. The dielectric study was carried out in the frequency range from 50 Hz to 5 MHz at room temperature. The dielectric constant decreased as the frequency of the applied field increased. The variations of dielectric loss, a.c. conductivity and a.c. resistivity also studied with the frequency of the applied field. Jonscher's power law was verified for a.c. conductivity.  相似文献

Single crystals of L‐Prolinium tartrate (C5H10NO2)+ (C4H5O6), a new organic non‐linear optical material of size: 15 × 10 × 10 mm3 were grown using submerged seed solution growth method. Characterization of the crystals was made using single crystal X‐ray diffraction and density determination. Spectroscopic, thermal, optical and mechanical studies were carried out. These studies show that the crystals are thermally stable upto 161°C, transparent for the fundamental and second harmonic generation of Nd: YAG (λ = 1064 nm) laser and possess good mechanical strength. Second harmonic generation (SHG) conversion efficiency was investigated to explore the NLO characteristics of this material using Kurtz and Perry method and it was found that the SHG conversion efficiency is about 90% of that of the standard KDP crystals. Laser damage threshold study was also carried out. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

4‐nitrophenol (4‐NP) single crystals have been grown by using slow evaporation and slow cooling techniques. A single crystal with size in the range of 7x3.4x1.8cm3 has been obtained by slow cooling method. The grown crystals have been subjected to various characterization studies. The powder XRD spectrum of 4‐NP reveals the good crystalline nature of the grown crystal. Single crystal XRD studies show that the crystal belongs to monoclinic system with cell parameters of a=6.09 Å, b=8.79 Å, c=11.61 Å, α=γ=90°, β=103.15°. The resultant FTIR spectrum confirms the various functional groups present in 4‐NP. Thermal analysis has been performed on the material to study the thermal stability of 4‐NP. The grown crystals belong to the category of soft materials as confirmed by Vickers Hardness tests. The optical transmiitance of 4‐NP single crystals has been measured from Vis‐IR spectroscopy study. The nonlinear optical properties have been analyzed by z‐scan technique and 4‐NP is found to be self defocusing because of its negative nonlinear refractive index. (© 2012 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Potassium Dihydrogen Phosphate (KDP) is an excellent inorganic nonlinear optical (NLO) material with different device applications. Most of amino acids possess NLO property; therefore, it is of interest to dope them in KDP crystals. In the present study, amino acid L‐alanine doped KDP crystals were grown by slow aqueous solvent evaporation technique. The doping of L‐alanine was confirmed by the paper chromatography, the CHN analysis and the FT‐IR spectroscopy. The powder XRD was carried out to assess the single phase nature of the samples. The effect of doping on thermal stability of the crystals was studied by TGA and the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of dehydration were evaluated. As the amount of doping increased the thermal stability of crystals decreased. However, the second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency and the UV‐Vis spectroscopy studies indicated that as the L‐alanine doping increased the SHG efficiency and optical transmission percentage increased. The dielectric behavior of the samples has been studied. The variation of dielectric constant, dielectric loss (tanδ), a.c.resistivity and a.c.conductivity with frequency of applied field in the range from 100 Hz to 100 kHz was studied. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss decreased with increase the value of frequency of applied field. The dielectric constant and the dielectric loss values of L‐alanine doped KDP crystals were lower than the pure KDP crystals. The results are discussed. (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. High quality single crystals of ternary AgGaS2 (AGS) semiconductor with chalcopyrite structure have been grown by chemical vapor transport (CVT) technique using iodine as a transporting agent at different growth zone temperatures. The powder X‐ray diffraction and single crystal X‐ray diffraction studies indicate that the as‐grown AGS crystals belong to the tetragonal (chalcopyrite) system with (112) plane as the dominant peak. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the X‐ray rocking curve for the as‐grown AGS single crystal is 5 arcsec. The energy dispersive X‐ray analysis (EDAX) and optical transmission spectra of as‐grown AGS single crystals grown at different conditions show the almost same composition and band gap (2.65 eV). Photoluminescence (PL) spectra of as‐grown AGS single crystals show prominent band edge emission at 2.61 eV. The resistivity of the as‐grown AGS single crystal has been measured.
