We report the preparation, crystallization, and solid-state characterization of the first two members of a new family of spiro-bis(1,9-disubstituted phenalenyl)boron neutral radicals based solely on oxygen functionalization, and we show that this strategy significantly lowers the electrochemical disproportionation potentials (DeltaE), in comparison with other spiro-bis(1,9-disubstituted phenalenyl)boron salts. In the solid state, these radicals pack in a continuous array of pi-pi-stacked phenalenyl units with very short intermolecular carbon...carbon contacts. These two radicals are among the most highly conducting neutral organic solids, with room temperature conductivities reaching 0.3 S/cm. Magnetic susceptibility measurements show that the radicals do not exist as isolated free radicals, and there is significant spin-spin interaction between the molecules in the solid state as expected from the crystal structures and the calculated band structures; the solid-state properties are best rationalized in terms of the resonating valence bond model.  相似文献

New synthetic routes to 1,2,3-dithiazolo-1,2,3-dithiazolylium salts, based on double Herz condensations of N-alkylated 2,6-diaminopyridinium salts with sulfur monochloride, have been developed. The two prototypal 1,2,3-dithiazolo-1,2,3-dithiazolyl radicals HBPMe and HBPEt have been prepared and characterized in solution by cyclic voltammetry and EPR spectroscopy. Measured electrochemical cell potentials and computed (B3LYP/6-31G) gas-phase disproportionation enthalpies favor a low on-site Coulombic repulsion energy U in the solid state. The crystal structures of HBPR (R = Me, Et) have been determined by X-ray crystallography (at 293 K). Both consist of slipped pi-stacks of undimerized radicals, with many close intermolecular S- - -S contacts. Magnetic, conductivity, and optical measurements have been performed and the results interpreted in light of extended Hückel band calculations. The crystalline materials are paramagnetic above 100 K, with room-temperature conductivities sigma(RT) of 10(-5)-10(-6) S cm(-1); the slightly greater conductivity of the R = Et compound can be associated with a more well developed band structure. We suggest a Mott-Hubbard insulator ground state for these materials, with an on-site Coulomb repulsion energy U of about 1.0 eV.  相似文献

N,N'-Dicyanonaphthoquinodiimines fused with a pyrazine ring 1 were prepared from the corresponding quinones 4. The new acceptors 1 have a planar pi-system and undergo reversible two-stage 1e-reduction. Quaternization of the pyridyl substituent in 1d-f gave pyridinium derivatives 2d+, 2e+, and R-3+, respectively, which are stronger acceptors that undergo three-stage 1e-reduction. Upon electrochemical reduction of these cations, novel radicals 2d., 2e., and R-3. were generated and isolated as stable solids. The molecular geometries determined by X-ray analysis indicated that these radicals adopt a zwitterionic structure, in which the unpaired electron is located on the quinodiimine unit but not on the pyridyl group. These novel radicals undergo facile and reversible 1e-oxidation as well as two-stage 1e-reduction. The observed amphotericity endows the radicals with electrical conductivities (10(-5) to 10(-9) S cm-1), and these thus represent a new motif for single-component organic semiconductors.  相似文献

Alkylation of the zwitterionic heterocycle 8-chloro-bis[1,2,3]dithiazolo[4,5-b:5',4'-e]pyridine (ClBP) with alkyl triflates affords 8-chloro-4-alkyl-4H-bis[1,2,3]dithiazolo[4,5-b:5',4'-e]pyridin-2-ium triflates [ClBPR][OTf] (R = Me, Et, Pr). Reduction of these salts with decamethylferrocene affords the corresponding ClBPR radicals as thermally stable crystalline solids. The radicals have been characterized in solution by cyclic voltammetry and EPR spectroscopy. Measured electrochemical cell potentials and computed (B3LYP/6-31G) gas-phase disproportionation enthalpies are consistent with a low on-site Coulombic barrier U to charge transfer in the solid state. The crystal structures of ClBPR (R = Me, Et, Pr) have been determined by X-ray crystallography (at 293 K). All three structures consist of slipped pi-stacks of undimerized radicals, with many close intermolecular S.S contacts. ClBPMe undergoes a phase transition at 93 K to a slightly modified slipped pi-stack arrangement, the structure of which has also been established crystallographically (at 25 K). Variable-temperature magnetic and conductivity measurements have been performed, and the results interpreted in light of extended Hückel band calculations. The room-temperature conductivities of ClBPR systems (sigma(RT) approximately 10(-)(5) to 10(-)(6) S cm(-)(1)), as well as the weak 1D ferromagnetism exhibited by ClBPMe, are interpreted in terms of weak intermolecular overlap along the pi-stacks. The latter is caused by slippage of the molecular plates, a feature necessitated by the steric size of the R and Cl groups on the pyridine ring.  相似文献

Two octahedral complexes [NiL(HL)]ClO4.0.5CH3OH and [CoL2]ClO4 have been synthesized with N2O donor Schiff base ligand {((2-(phenylamino)ethyl)imino)methyl}phenol (HL) and characterized by spectroscopic techniques and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The molar conductivities data of the two complexes show that the complexes are 1:1 electrolyte. Single crystal X-ray diffraction data shows both Ni(II) and Co(III) complexes have distorted octahedral geometry and two ligands are coordinated to the metal centers and one ClO4 ion outside the coordination sphere. The intermolecular interactions in the complexes are evaluated by Hirshfeld surface analysis and revealed a significant contribution of non- or weakly polar interactions to the packing forces for both molecules, with crystal structure of Co(III) complex featuring short H/H contacts.  相似文献

We report the preparation, crystallization, and solid-state characterization of the first member of a new family of tris(1,9-disubstituted phenalenyl)silicon neutral radicals. In the solid state, the radical packs as weak partial pi-dimers with intermolecular carbon...carbon contacts that fall at the van der Waals atomic separation. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate approximately 0.7 Curie spins per molecule from room temperature down to 50 K, below which antiferromagnetic coupling becomes apparent; the compound has a room-temperature single-crystal conductivity of sigmaRT = 2.4 x 10(-6) S cm(-1).  相似文献

The emission manners of organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs) have experienced almost three-decade evolution. In this review,we briefly summarized the emission manners of OLEDs including:(ⅰ) emission from singlet exciton;(ⅱ) emission from triplet exciton;(ⅲ) emission from singlet exciton converted from triplet exciton. Then we introduced a new type of OLEDs with the emission from doublet exciton, wherein organic neutral radicals are used as emitters.Due to the spin-allowed transition of doublet excitons, using neutral radicals as emitters is believed to be a new way to break the 25%upper limit of internal quantum efficiency of OLEDs.The progress of emissive stable neutral radicals is also shortly reviewed.  相似文献

A new one-dimensional copper(II) complex with formula [Cu(hfac)(2)(N(3)TEMPO)](n) (hfac = hexafluoroacetylacetonate and N(3)TEMPO = 4-azido-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl) has been synthesized and investigated by X-ray crystallography, magnetometry and multifrequency single crystal EPR. The system crystallizes in the P1 space group with two non equivalent copper(II) ions in the unit cell, the two nitroxide radicals being coordinated to Cu(1) in axial positions. The copper(II) ions are bridged by N(3)TEMPO radicals resulting in a zig-zag chain structure. The magnetic susceptibility data were at first satisfactorily modeled assuming an alternating spin chain along the monodimensional covalent skeleton, with a ferromagnetic interaction between Cu(1) and the nitroxide moieties and a weaker antiferromagnetic interaction between these and Cu(2) (J(1) = -13.8 cm(-1), J(2) = +2.4 cm(-1)). However, single crystal EPR studies performed at the X- and W-band clearly demonstrate that the observed magnetic monodimensional character of the complex is actually due to the intermolecular contacts involving N(3)TEMPO ligands. This prompted us to fit the magnetic data using a consistent model, pointing out the fundamental role of single crystal EPR data in defining a correct model to describe the magnetic properties of molecular low dimensional systems.  相似文献

Conjugated radicals are capable of forming π‐stacking “pancake‐bonded” dimers. Members of the family of triangulene hydrocarbons, non‐Kekulé neutral multiradicals, can utilize more than one singly occupied molecular orbital (SOMO) to form multiple pancake‐bonded dimers with formal bond orders of up to five. The resulting dimer binding energies can be quite high and the intermolecular contacts rather small compared to the respective van der Waals values. The preferred configurations are driven by the large stabilization energy of overlapping SOMOs.  相似文献

Utilizing a cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene (CAAC) as a ligand, neutral CAAC‐stabilized radicals containing a boryl functionality could be prepared by reduction of the corresponding haloborane adducts. The radical species with a duryl substituent was fully characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray structural analysis, EPR spectroscopy, and DFT calculations. Compared to known neutral boryl radicals, the isolated radical species showed larger spin density on the boron atom. Furthermore, the compound that was isolated is extraordinarily stable to high temperatures under inert conditions, both in solution and in the solid state. Electrochemical investigations of the radical suggest the possibility to generate a stable formal boryl anion species.  相似文献

A new method for the calculation of the spin density in π radicals is proposed within the McLachlan framework. Compared with previous methods, this new definition exhibits two main features: (i) for odd alternant neutral radicals, the computed spin density pattern is in better agreement with experiment (ii) for even alternant ionic radicals, the spin densities are identical in the cation and the anion, as required by the “ pairing theorem ”.  相似文献

The crystal structure of a third polymorphic form of the known 4‐(2,6‐difluorophenyl)‐1,2,3,5‐dithiadiazolyl radical, C7H3F2N2S2, is reported. This new polymorph represents a unique crystal‐packing motif never before observed for 1,2,3,5‐dithiadiazolyl (DTDA) radicals. In the two known polymorphic forms of the title compound, all of the molecules form cis‐cofacial dimers, such that two molecules are π‐stacked with like atoms one on top of the other, a common arrangement for DTDA species. By contrast, the third polymorph, reported herein, contains two crystallographically unique molecules organized such that only 50% are dimerized, while the other 50% remain monomeric radicals. The dimerized molecules are arranged in the trans‐antarafacial mode. This less common dimer motif for DTDA species is characterized by π–π interactions between the S atoms [S...S = 3.208 (1) Å at 110 K], such that the two molecules of the dimer are related by a centre of inversion. The most remarkable aspect of this third polymorph is that the DTDA dimers are co‐packed with monomers. The monomeric radicals are arranged in one‐dimensional chains directed by close lateral intermolecular contacts between the two S atoms of one DTDA heterocycle and an N atom of a neighbouring coplanar DTDA heterocycle [S...N = 2.857 (2) and 3.147 (2) Å at 110 K].  相似文献

A new tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivative is synthesized, which is substituted with two phenoxy radicals on one 1,3-dithiole ring, and may have either open-shell diradical or closed-shell extended-quinoidal ground states. X-ray single crystal analysis and NMR measurements prove that this molecule has a closed-shell extended quinoidal structure both in the solid state and in solution. DFT calculations show the donor–acceptor electronic properties of this molecule with a well-separated HOMO–LUMO distribution and a small HOMO–LUMO energy gap. Because of this donor–acceptor character, this molecule gives both the dication and the dianion species by electrochemical oxidation and reduction. Furthermore, during the redox process between the neutral and dication states, this molecule exhibits unique changes in the cyclic voltammogram upon repeating the cycles or varying the scan rate. The observed electrochemical behavior is explained by the conformational changes in the electrochemically generated species, thus indicating that this molecule is classified as a dynamic redox system.  相似文献

Films of monolayer protected Au clusters (MPCs) with mixed alkanethiolate and omega-carboxylate alkanethiolate monolayers, linked together in a network polymer by carboxylate-Cu2+-carboxylate bridges, exhibit electronic conductivities (sigma(EL)) that vary with both the numbers of methylene segments in the ligands and the bathing medium (N2, liquid or vapor). A chainlength-dependent swelling/contraction of the film's internal structure is shown to account for changes in sigma(EL). The linker chains appear to have sufficient flexibility to collapse and fold with varied degrees of film swelling or dryness. Conductivity is most influenced (exponentially dependent) by the chainlength of the nonlinker (alkanethiolate) ligands, a result consistent with electron tunneling through the alkanethiolate chains and nonbonded contacts between those chains on individual, adjacent MPCs. The sigma(EL) results concur with the behavior of UV-vis surface plasmon adsorption bands, which are enhanced for short nonlinker ligands and when the films are dry. The film conductivities respond to exposure to organic vapors, decreasing in electronic conductivity and increasing in mass (quartz crystal microgravimetry, QCM). In the presence of organic vapor, the flexible network of linked nanoparticles allows for a swelling-induced alteration in either length or chemical nature of electron tunneling pathways or both.  相似文献

The preparation of two bisthiadiazinyls (7, R1 = Me, Et; R2 = Cl, R3 = Ph), the first examples of a new class of resonance-stabilized heterocyclic thiazyl radical, are reported. Both radicals have been characterized in solution by EPR spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry, which confirm highly delocalized spin distributions and low electrochemical cell potentials, features which augur well for the use of these materials as building blocks for neutral radical conductors. In the solid state, the radicals are undimerized, crystallizing in slipped pi-stack arrays which ensure the availability of electrons as potential charge carriers. However, despite these favorable electrochemical and structural properties, both materials exhibit low conductivities, with sigma(300K) < 10-7 S cm-1, a result which can be rationalized in terms of their EHT band electronic structures, which indicate that intermolecular interactions lateral to the pi-stacks are limited. The materials are thus very 1-D with low bandwidths, so that a Mott insulating state prevails. When R1 = Me, the intermolecular overlap along the pi-stacks is weak and the material is essentially paramagnetic. When R1 = Et, intermolecular pi-overlap is greater and variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate a strongly antiferromagnetically coupled system, the behavior of which has been modeled in terms of a molecular-field modified 1-D Heisenberg chain of S = 1/2 centers. Broken-symmetry DFT methods have been used to estimate the magnitude of individual exchange interactions within both structures.  相似文献

[reaction: see text] N,N-Di(6-azulenyl)-p-toluidine (1a) and N,N,N',N'-tetra(6-azulenyl)-p-phenylenediamine (2a) and their derivatives with 1,3-bis(ethoxycarbonyl) substituents on each 6-azulenyl group (1b and 2b) were prepared by Pd-catalyzed amine azulenylation and characterized as a study into new aromatic amines for multistage amphoteric redox materials. The redox behavior of each compound was characterized by cyclic voltammetry. These compounds undergo facile reduction to stable anion radicals and dianion diradicals owing to the resonance stabilization between the 6-azulenyl groups and exhibit electrochemical oxidation depending on the amine subunits. The ESR measurement of anion radicals and a dianion diradical generated by the electrochemical reduction of amine 1b and diamine 2b revealed that the unpaired electron of these radicals delocalizes over the entire azulene ring including the central nitrogen atoms. UV-vis spectral analysis of amines 1a,b and diamines 2a,b, taken during the electrochemical reduction, exhibited a gradual decrease of the absorption bands of the neutral species along with an increase of the new absorption maxima at 625, 605, 640, and 610 nm, respectively, with the development of well-defined isosbestic points at 502, 562, 478, and 545 nm, respectively. As indicated by a combined ESR and UV-vis spectral study, the species giving rise to the new absorption maxima are concluded to be the generation of anion radicals and dianion diradicals of aromatic amines and diamines with high thermodynamic stability.  相似文献

The X-ray crystal structure and magnetic properties of a molecular crystal consisting of 1,5-dimethyl-3-(2-pyridyl)-6-oxoverdazyl radical and hydroquinone (pyvd:hq) are presented. The structure contains a two-dimensional network of hydrogen bonds involving the hydroquinones and the pyridine ring of the pyvd radical. The radicals adopt an unusual head-over-tail (antiparallel) pi-stacked array perpendicular to the hydrogen-bonded planes. The variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility data can be modeled using a one-dimensional antiferromagnetic chain model, with J = -58 cm(-1). The strength of the magnetic coupling is very unusual because there are no close intermolecular radical-radical contacts to provide conventional pathways for magnetic interactions. A pathway for coupling is proposed involving the mediation of magnetic exchange interactions between radical centers by the pyridine rings. Density functional calculations on the pyvd radical, as well as aggregates thereof based on the X-ray structure, have been employed in attempts to understand the possible mechanisms by which the strong magnetic interactions are achieved.  相似文献

A new silyl-substituted trioxotriangulene ( TOT ) neutral radical and corresponding porous organosiloxanes (POSs) were synthesized. The neutral radical exhibited a peculiarly high stability and formed a diamagnetic π-dimer characteristic to TOT neutral radicals stabilized by the strong multiple SOMO-SOMO interaction in both solution and solid states. POSs including TOT units within the organosiloxane-wall were prepared by polycondensation of the silyl groups and formed microporous structures with ∼1 nm-size diameters. Redox ability of TOT units in the POS was demonstrated by the treatment of oxidant/reductant in heterogeneous suspension condition, where the TOT units were reversibly converted between reduced and neutral radical species. Furthermore, the solid-state electrochemical measurements of the POS revealed the reversible multi-stage redox ability of TOT units involving polyanionic species within the organosiloxane-wall.  相似文献

The first magnesium and zinc boraamidinate (bam) complexes have been synthesized via metathetical reactions between dilithio bams and Grignard reagents or MCl2 (M = Mg, Zn). The following new classes of bam complexes have been structurally characterized: heterobimetallic spirocycles {(L)mu-Li[PhB(mu-NtBu)2]}2M (6a,b, M = Mg, L = Et2O, THF; 6c, M = Zn, L = Et(2)O); bis(organomagnesium) complexes {[PhB(mu3-NtBu)2](MgtBu)2(mu3-Cl)Li(OEt2)3} (8) and {[PhB(mu3-NtBu)2](MgR)2(THF)2} (9a, R = iPr; 9b, R = Ph); mononuclear complex {[PhB(mu-NDipp)2]Mg(OEt2)2} (10). Oxidation of 6a or 6c with iodine produces persistent pink (16a, M = Mg) or purple (16b, M = Zn) neutral radicals {Lx-mu-Li[PhB(mu-NtBu)2]2M}. (L = solvent molecule), which are shown by EPR spectra supported by DFT calculations to be Cs-symmetric species with spin density localized on one of the bam ligands. In contrast, characterization of the intensely colored neutral radicals {[PhB(mu-NtBu)2]2M}. (5c, M = In, dark green; 5d, M = B, dark purple) reveals that the spin density is equally delocalized over all four nitrogen atoms in these D2d-symmetric spirocyclic systems. Oxidation of the dimeric dilithio complex {Li2[PhB(mu4-NtBu)2]}2 with iodine produces the monomeric neutral radical {[PhB(mu-NtBu)2]Li(OEt2)x}. (17), characterized by EPR spectra and DFT calculations. These findings establish that the bam anionic radical [PhB(NtBu)2].- can be stabilized by coordination to a variety of early main-group metal centers to give neutral radicals whose relative stabilities are compared and discussed.  相似文献

Reduction of 2-cyanopyridine by sodium in the presence of 3-piperidylthiosemicarbazide produces 2-pyridineformamide 3-piperidylthiosemicarbazone, HAmpip. Complexes with iron(III), cobalt(II,III) copper(II) and zinc(II) have been prepared and characterized by molar conductivities, magnetic susceptibilities and spectroscopic techniques. In addition, the crystal structures of HAmpip, [Fe(Ampip)2]ClO4, [Cu(HAmpip)Cl2]·CH3OH and [Zn(HAmpip)Br2]·C2H6SO have been determined. Coordination is via the pyridyl nitrogen, imine nitrogen and thiolato or thione sulfur when coordinating as the anionic or neutral ligand, respectively.  相似文献
