The wave-particle interactions in a beam-plasma system in the presence of finite but small thermal motions of the particles
are investigated in the linear as well as nonlinear regime. During the linear growth, the thermal motions are found to have
a stabilizing effect. The nonlinear evolution is studied by using the Perturbed Orbit Formalism. Due to the thermal motions
the nonlinear saturation of growth is found to take place at a level lower than that of the cold case. A detailed study of
the energy balance shows that nonresonant particles pick up a bigger fraction of the energy lost by the streaming motion of
the beam, thus leading to more efficient ‘heating’. 相似文献

The interaction of a (relativistic) electron beam with a plasma is discussed. In the introduction the history of the field and related topics are reviewed. Next the momentum space distribution of a relativistic electron beam (REB) is treated. Then, taking into account the kinetic properties of a REB, linear wave dispersion in a REB-plasma system is surveyed. Dispersion diagrams are calculated and presented for a number of representative sets of parameters. Finally a discussion is given of the dispersive properties of unstable waves. Criteria are developed to discriminate between the various types of possible non-linear behaviour of the waves as they grow to their saturation level. 相似文献

Quasilinear analysis of wave-particle interactions is presented for plasma flowing in a weakly nonuniform magnetic field configuration. The method presented is based on a scale separation between the length scales of quasilinear relaxation and the magnetic field inhomogeneity, allowing one to obtain large scale solutions for both particle distribution functions and wave spectra, without going into the details of the small scale quasilinear relaxation. The numerical example shows the existence of a secondary instability for an initially stable particle distribution function. 相似文献

A microscopic Lagrangian and Hamiltonian is derived for the waves on a beam-plasma system with the reaction of the waves on the background self-consistently taken into account. It has been known since the early days of plasma physics research that superthermal electrons are generated during beam-plasma laboratory experiments. Superthermal electrons (the kappa distribution) are also ubiquitously observed in space. To explain such a feature, various particle acceleration mechanisms have been proposed. However, self-consistent acceleration of electrons in the context of plasma kinetic theory has not been demonstrated to date. This Letter reports such a demonstration. It is shown that the collisionality, defined via the "plasma parameter" g=1/n(lambda(D)(3), plays a pivotal role. It is found that a small but moderately finite value of is necessary for the superthermal tail to be generated, implying that purely collisionless (g=0) Vlasov theory cannot produce a superthermal population. 相似文献

It is shown that stochastic instability can arise in the amplification of a real multifrequency signal in resonant amplifiers with distributed interaction that are stable under the influence of a harmonic oscillation. Necessary conditions for the onset of chaos are determined analytically by means of running Lyapunov exponents. 为了对扩展互作用振荡器(EIO)进行更为高效研究与设计,提出了一种非线性理论与数值模拟相结合的方法对其进行分析,编制了基于一维电子圆盘模型的数值计算程序,并结合MAGIC模拟结果对其准确性进行了讨论。非线性模拟中,35GHz EIO输出功率为125W,频率为35.01GHz,对应的MAGIC模拟结果分别为100W,35.11GHz;110GHz EIO输出功率为220W,频率为107.9GHz,对应的MAGIC模拟结果分别为190W,107.93GHz。非线性方法使得模拟速度有了很大的提高,单次计算时间小于5min,并且所得数据与传统软件模拟得到的特性曲线相比变化趋势一致、数值上也较为接近。 相似文献
