In this paper, we consider the single machine scheduling problems with an actual time-dependent deterioration effect. By the actual time-dependent deterioration effect, we mean that the processing time of a job is defined by increasing function of total actual processing time of jobs in front of it in the sequence. We show that even with the introduction of an actual time-dependent deterioration to job processing times, makespan minimization problem, total completion time minimization problem, the total lateness, and the sum of the quadratic job completion times minimization problem remain polynomially solvable, respectively. We also show that the total weighted completion time minimization problem, the discounted total weighted completion time minimization problem, the maximum lateness minimization problem, and the total tardiness minimization problem can be solved in polynomial time under certain conditions.  相似文献

We consider the parallel-machine scheduling problem in which the processing time of a job is a simple linear increasing function of its starting time. The objective is to minimize the total completion time. We give a fully polynomial-time approximation scheme (FPTAS) for the case with m identical machines, where m is fixed. This study solves an open problem that has been posed in the literature for ten years.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the single-machine scheduling problems with nonlinear deterioration. By the nonlinear deterioration effect, we mean that the processing times of jobs are nonlinear functions of their starting times. We show that even with the introduction of nonlinear deterioration to job processing times, single machine makespan minimization problem remains polynomially solvable. We also show that an optimal schedule of the total completion time minimization problem is V-shaped with respect to job normal processing times. A heuristic algorithm utilizing the V-shaped property is proposed, and computational experiments show that it performs effectively and efficiently in obtaining near-optimal solutions.  相似文献

Traditionally, job processing times are assumed to be known and fixed; however, there are many situations in which a job that is processed later consumes more time than the same job when it is processed earlier. This is known as deteriorating jobs scheduling in the literature. Most of the research in deteriorating jobs scheduling assumes that the actual job processing time is a linear function of its starting time. Thus, the actual job processing times might increase significantly if the number of jobs or the job sizes increase. Motivated by this limitation, this paper addresses a new deterioration model where the actual job processing time is a function of the logarithm of the job processing times already processed. Under the proposed model, we provide the optimal solutions for some single-machine problems.  相似文献

In this study, we introduce a time-dependent learning effect into a single-machine scheduling problem. The time-dependent learning effect of a job is assumed to be a function of total normal processing time of jobs scheduled in front of it. We introduce it into a single-machine scheduling problem and we show that it remains polynomially solvable for the objective, i.e., minimizing the total completion time on a single machine. Moreover, we show that the SPT-sequence is the optimal sequence in this problem.  相似文献

Scheduling with deterioration effects has been widely investigated in the past two decades. In realistic situations, the deterioration effect might accelerate, especially in the food manufacturing industry. In this paper we propose a scheduling model with an accelerating deterioration effect. We show that the single-machine problems under the model to minimize the makespan, total completion time, total weighted completion time, maximum lateness, maximum tardiness, and total tardiness remain polynomially solvable.  相似文献

We consider the problem of scheduling multi-operation jobs on a singe machine to minimize the total completion time. Each job consists of several operations that belong to different families. In a schedule each family of job operations may be processed as batches with each batch incurring a set-up time. A job is completed when all of its operations have been processed. We first show that the problem is strongly NP-hard even when the set-up times are common and each operation is not missing. When the operations have identical processing times and either the maximum set-up time is sufficiently small or the minimum set-up time is sufficiently large, the problem can be solved in polynomial time. We then consider the problem under the job-batch restriction in which the operations of each batch is partitioned into operation batches according to a partition of the jobs. We show that this case of the problem can be solved in polynomial time under a certain condition.  相似文献

In this paper, we address a two-machine flow shop scheduling problem under simple linear deterioration. By a simple linear deterioration function, we mean that the processing time of a job is a simple linear function of its execution start time. The objective is to find a sequence that minimizes total weighted completion time. Optimal schedules are obtained for some special cases. For the general case, several dominance properties and two lower bounds are derived to speed up the elimination process of a branch-and-bound algorithm. A heuristic algorithm is also proposed to overcome the inefficiency of the branch-and-bound algorithm. Computational analysis on randomly generated problems is conducted to evaluate the branch-and-bound algorithm and heuristic algorithm.  相似文献

As to learning effect, it may be more appropriate to assume that position-based learning takes place during machine setups only, while sum-of-processing-time-based learning occurs in considering the experience that workers have gained from producing jobs. Thus, in this paper, we consider sum-of-processing-time-based learning on job processing time and position-based learning on setup time in single-machine group scheduling problems. The objectives are to minimize the makespan and the total completion time, respectively. We provide two polynomial time algorithms to solve the makespan minimization problems. On the other hand, we also provide two polynomial time algorithms to solve the total completion time minimization problems under certain conditions.  相似文献

This article considers the single-machine serial-batching scheduling problem with a machine availability constraint, position-dependent processing time, and time-dependent set-up time. The objective of this problem is to make the decision of batching jobs and sequencing batches to minimize the makespan. To solve the problem, three cases of machine non-availability periods are considered, and the structural properties of the optimal solution are derived for each case. Based on these structural properties, an optimization algorithm is developed and an example is proposed to illustrate this algorithm.  相似文献

This paper investigates scheduling problems with simultaneous considerations of deterioration effects and deteriorating multi-maintenance activities on unrelated parallel machines. We examine two models of scheduling with the deterioration effect, namely the job-dependent and position-dependent deterioration model and the time-dependent deterioration model. We assume that each machine may be subject to several maintenance activities over the scheduling horizon, and the duration of maintenance on a machine depends on its running time. Moreover, due to the restriction of the budget of maintenance, the upper bound of the total maintenance frequencies on all the machines is assumed to be known in advance. The objective is to find jointly the optimal maintenance frequencies, the optimal maintenance positions, and the optimal job sequences such that the total completion time is minimized. If the number of machines is fixed, we introduce polynomial time solutions for all the versions of the problem under study.  相似文献

Single-machine scheduling with both deterioration and learning effects   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper considers a single-machine scheduling problem with both deterioration and learning effects. The objectives are to respectively minimize the makespan, the total completion times, the sum of weighted completion times, the sum of the kth power of the job completion times, the maximum lateness, the total absolute differences in completion times and the sum of earliness, tardiness and common due-date penalties. Several polynomial time algorithms are proposed to optimally solve the problem with the above objectives.  相似文献

In this paper we consider single-machine group scheduling problems with effects of learning and deterioration at the same time. By effects of learning and deterioration, we mean that the group setup times are general linear functions of their starting times and the jobs in the same group have general position-dependent and time-dependent learning effects. The objective of scheduling problems is to minimize the makespan and the sum of completion times, respectively. We show that the problems remain solvable in polynomial time under the proposed model.  相似文献

We consider a single-machine scheduling problem with linear decreasing deterioration in which the due dates are determined by the equal slack (SLK) method. By the linear decreasing deterioration, we mean that the job’s processing time is a decreasing function of its starting time. The objective is to minimize the total weighted earliness penalty subject to no tardy jobs. We prove that two special cases of the problem remain polynomially solvable. The first case is the problem with equally weighted monotonous penalty objective function and the other case is the problem with weighted linear penalty objective function.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to explore the single-machine scheduling with the effects of exponential learning and general deterioration. By the effects of exponential learning and general deterioration, we meant that job processing time is decided by the functions of their starting time and positions in the sequence. Results showed that with the introduction of learning effect and deteriorating jobs to job processing time, single-machine makespan, and sum of completion time (square) minimization problems remained polynomially solvable, respectively. But for the following objective functions: the weighted sum of completion time and the maximum lateness, this paper proved that the weighted smallest basic processing time first (WSPT) rule and the earliest due date first (EDD) rule constructed the optimal sequence under some special cases, respectively.  相似文献

In this study, we introduce an actual time-dependent and job-dependent learning effect into single-machine scheduling problems. We show that the complexity results of the makespan minimization problem and the sum of weighted completion time minimization problem are all NP-hard. The complexity result of the maximum lateness minimization problem is NP-hard in the strong sense. We also provide three special cases which can be solved by polynomial time algorithms.  相似文献

In the one-machine scheduling problems analysed in this paper, the processing time of a job depends on the time at which the job is started. More precisely, the horizon is divided into time windows and with each one a coefficient is associated that is used to determine the actual processing time of a job starting in it. Two models are introduced, and one of them has direct connections with models considered in previous papers on scheduling problems with time-dependent processing times. Various computational complexity results are presented for the makespan criterion, which show that the problem is NP-hard, even with two time windows. Solving procedures are also proposed for some special cases.  相似文献

This paper deals with serial-batching scheduling problems with the effects of deterioration and learning, where time-dependent setup time is also considered. In the proposed scheduling models, all jobs are first partitioned into serial batches, and then all batches are processed on a single serial-batching machine. The actual job processing time is a function of its starting time and position. In addition, a setup time is required when a new batch is processed, and the setup time of the batches is time-dependent, i.e., it is a linear function of its starting time. Structural properties are derived for the problems of minimizing the makespan, the number of tardy jobs, and the maximum earliness. Then, three optimization algorithms are developed to solve them, respectively.  相似文献

Scheduling research has increasingly taken the concept of deterioration into consideration. In this paper, we study a single machine group scheduling problem with deterioration effect, where the jobs are already put into groups, before any optimization. We assume that the actual processing times of jobs are increasing functions of their starting times, i.e., the job processing times are described by a function which is proportional to a linear function of time. The setup times of groups are assumed to be fixed and known. For some special cases of minimizing the makespan with ready times of the jobs, we show that the problem can be solved in polynomial time for the proposed model. For the general case, a heuristic algorithm is proposed, and the computational experiments show that the performance of the heuristic is fairly accurately in obtaining near-optimal solutions. The results imply that the average percentage error of the proposed heuristic algorithm from optimal solutions is less than 3%.  相似文献
