Lithography based additive manufacturing technologies (AMT) like stereolithography or digital light processing have become appealing methods for the fabrication of 3D cellular scaffolds for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. To circumvent the use of (meth)acrylate‐based photopolymers, that suffer from skin irritation and sometimes cytotoxicity, new monomers based on vinyl esters were prepared. In vitro cytotoxicity studies with osteoblast‐like cells proofed that monomers based on vinyl esters are significantly less cytotoxic than (meth)acrylates. Photoreactivity was followed by photo‐differential scanning calorimetry and the mechanical properties of the photocured materials were screened by nanoindentation. Conversion rates and indentation moduli between those of acrylate and methacrylate references could be observed. Furthermore, osteoblast‐like cells were successfully seeded onto polymer specimens. Finally, we were able to print a 3D test structure out of a vinyl ester‐based formulation by μ‐SLA with a layer thickness of 50 μm. For in vivo testing of vinyl esters these 3D scaffolds were implanted into surgical defects of the distal femoral bone of adult New Zealand white rabbits. The obtained histological results approved the excellent biocompatibility of vinyl esters. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2009  相似文献

Free‐radical copolymerizations of vinyl acetate (VAc = M1) and other vinyl esters (= M2) including vinyl pivalate (VPi), vinyl 2,2‐bis(trifluoromethyl)propionate (VF6Pi), and vinyl benzoate (VBz) with fluoroalcohols and tetrahydrofuran (THF) as the solvents were investigated. The fluoroalcohols affected not only the stereochemistry but also the polymerization rate. The polymerization rate was higher in the fluoroalcohols than in THF. The accelerating effect of the fluoroalcohols on the polymerization was probably due to the interaction of the solvents with the ester side groups of the monomers and growing radical species. The difference in the monomer reactivity ratios (r1, r2) in THF and 2,2,2‐trifluoroethanol was relatively small for all reaction conditions and for the monomers tested in this work, whereas r1 increased in the VAc‐VF6Pi copolymerization and r2 decreased in the VAc‐VPi copolymerization when perfluoro‐tert‐butyl alcohol was used as the solvent. These results were ascribed to steric and monomer‐activating effects due to the hydrogen bonding between the monomers and solvents. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Three new vinyl ether monomers containing phosphonate moieties were synthesized from transetherification reaction. We showed that the yield was dependent on the spacer length between the vinyl oxy group and the phosphonate moieties: when the spacer is a single methylene side reaction may occur, leading to the formation of acetal compounds. Free‐radical copolymerizations of phosphonate‐containing vinyl ether monomers with maleic anhydride were carried out, leading to alternated copolymers of rather low molecular weights (from 1000 to 7000 g/mol). Both gel permeation chromatography and 31P NMR analyses enhanced possible intramolecular transfer reactions occurring from the phosphonate moieties. Kinetic investigation showed that the electron‐withdrawing character of the phosphonate moieties tends to decrease the rate of copolymerization. Nevertheless, almost complete monomers conversion was reached after 30 min of reaction with dimethyl vinyloxyethylphosphonate (VEC2PMe). Then, radical copolymerization of VEC2PMe with a series of electron‐accepting monomers, that is, dibutyl maleate, dibutylitaconate, itaconic anhydride, butyl maleimide, and methyl maleimide, led to a series of alternated copolymers. From kinetic investigation, we showed that the higher the electron‐accepting effect, the faster the vinyl ether consumption and the higher the molecular weights. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Radical copolymerizations of electron‐deficient 2‐trifluoromethylacrylic (TFMA) monomers and electron‐rich norbornene derivatives and vinyl ethers with azobisisobutyronitrile were investigated by analyzing the kinetics in situ with 1H NMR. Although none of the monomers underwent radical homopolymerization under normal conditions, they copolymerized readily, producing a copolymer containing 60–70 mol % TFMA. Terpolymerization involving these monomers was also investigated. The rates of copolymerization and kinetic chain lengths were determined in some cases on the basis of the in situ kinetics analysis. These radial copolymerizations of TFMA provide a basis for the preparation of chemical‐amplification resist polymers for emerging 157‐nm lithography. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Radical copolymerizations of electron‐deficient 2‐trifluoromethylacrylic (TFMA) monomers, such as 2‐trifluoromethylacrylic acid and t‐butyl 2‐trifluoromethylacrylate (TBTFMA), with electron‐rich norbornene derivatives and vinyl ethers with 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile as the initiator were investigated in detail through the analysis of the kinetics in situ with 1H NMR and through the determination of the monomer reactivity ratios. The norbornene derivatives used in this study included bicyclo[2.2.1]hept‐2‐ene (norbornene) and 5‐(2‐trifluoromethyl‐1,1,1‐trifluoro‐2‐hydroxylpropyl)‐2‐norbornene. The vinyl ether monomers were ethyl vinyl ether, t‐butyl vinyl ether, and 3,4‐dihydro‐2‐H‐pyran. Vinylene carbonate was found to copolymerize with TBTFMA. Although none of the monomers underwent radical homopolymerization under normal conditions, they copolymerized readily, producing a copolymer containing 60–70 mol % TFMA. The copolymerization of the TFMA monomer with norbornenes and vinyl ethers deviated from the terminal model and could be described by the penultimate model. The copolymers of TFMA reported in this article were evaluated as chemical amplification resist polymers for the emerging field of 157‐nm lithography. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Solution and dispersion copolymerizations of N‐phenylmaleimide (PMI) with either styrenics or alkyl vinyl ethers (AVEs), systems with a tendency to give alternating polymers, were investigated with the goal of producing high glass transition particles. Equimolar solution copolymerization of PMI with styrenics gave alternating copolymers, whereas AVEs gave PMI‐rich copolymers (~65:35) except for t‐butyl vinyl ether, which gave copolymers with only a slight excess of PMI. These copolymers had glass transition temperatures (Tgs) ranging from 115 to 225 °C depending on comonomer(s). Dispersion copolymerization in ethanol‐based solvents in the presence of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) as steric stabilizer led to narrow‐disperse microspheres for many copolymers studied. Dispersion copolymeriations of PMI with styrenics required good cosolvents such as acetonitrile or methyl ethyl ketone as plasticizers during particle initiation and growth. Dispersion copolymerizations generally resulted in copolymer particles with compositions and Tgs very similar to those of the corresponding copolymers formed by solution polymerization, with the exception of t‐butyl vinyl ether (tBVE), which now behaved like the other AVEs. Dispersion terpolymerizations of PMI (50 mol %) with different ratios of either n‐butylstyrene and t‐butylstyrene or n‐butyl vinyl ether and tBVE led to polymer particles with Tgs that depended on the ratio of the two butyl monomers. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This overview provides insights into the current state‐of‐the‐art solutions to insertion copolymerization of functional olefinic monomers. The challenges in insertion copolymerization of functional olefinic monomers, with a special emphasis on vinyl halides, are highlighted. The crucial design of the Pd–phosphinesulfonate [Pd(PO)] enables up to 3.6 mol % incorporation of vinyl fluoride (VF) in an ethylene–VF copolymerization reaction. In a significant development, insertion copolymerization of industrially relevant functional olefin, that is, vinyl chloride (VC), was unambiguously ascertained, and a detectable amount of VC (0.4 mol %) was incorporated (at the chain end). In a detailed investigation, the in situ existence of (PO)Pd? H species during the polymerization was revealed, and it was demonstrated that these are indeed responsible for VC incorporation. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Magnetic ionic liquid monomers were synthesized and then polymerized to get magnetic polymer latexes and films. First, a series of 1‐vinyl‐3‐dodecyl‐imidazolium monomers having metal halides counter‐anions such as FeCl3Br?, CoCl2Br?, and MnCl2Br? were synthesized. These ionic liquid monomers were first homopolymerized to lead to magnetic poly(ionic liquids) and characterized. Secondly, magnetic latexes were synthesized by using the magnetic ionic liquids as surfmers (surfactant + monomer) in the emulsion polymerization of methyl methacrylate/n‐butyl acrylate. It was found that the powders obtained by freeze‐drying the latexes presented a paramagnetic behavior with weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the adjacent metal ions. Although the ratio of magnetic ionic liquid/monomer was only 2% these poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐butyl acrylate) powders and latexes responded to a magnetic field due to the surfmer paramagnetic nature. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Phosphorus‐containing vinyl ether monomers and 1‐propenyl ether monomers were prepared by the regioselective addition reaction of glycidyl vinyl ether (GVE) or 1‐propenyl glycidyl ether with diaryl phosphonates with quaternary onium salts as catalysts. The reaction of GVE with bis(4‐chlorophenyl) phenylphosphonate gave bis[1‐(4‐chlorophenoxy methyl)‐2‐(vinyloxy)ethyl]phenylphosphonate in a 68% yield. The structures of the resulting phosphorus‐containing vinyl ether monomers and 1‐propenyl ether monomers were confirmed by IR and 1H NMR spectra and elemental analysis. Photoinitiated cationic polymerizations of the resulting phosphorus‐containing vinyl ether monomers and 1‐propenyl ether monomers were investigated with photoacid generators. The polymerization of vinyl ether groups and 1‐propenyl ether groups of the obtained monomers proceeded very smoothly with a sulfonium‐type cationic photoinitiator, bis[4‐(diphenylsulfonio)phenyl]sulfide‐bis(hexafluorophosphate), upon UV irradiation. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new range of selenium‐based reversible addition‐fragmentation chain‐transfer (RAFT) agents is described and tested in the polymerization of styrene, acrylates, vinyl esters, and N‐vinylcaprolactam. The synthesized N,N‐dimethyldiselenocarbamates were poor control agents for styrene polymerization, whereas polyacrylates of controlled molar masses and bearing a diselenocarbamate terminal group could be synthesized. The polymerization of vinyl acetate and vinyl pivalate proceeded in a controlled manner as confirmed by size‐exclusion chromatography, matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization‐time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry, and 77Se NMR analyses. The capability of these RAFT agents to control the polymerization of both more‐activated monomers and less‐activated monomers was exemplified through the synthesis of a poly(t‐butyl acrylate)‐b‐poly(vinyl acetate) diblock copolymer. Considering the very broad range of carbamate groups which can be envisioned, this finding opens numerous perspectives for diselenocarbamate‐mediated RAFT polymerization with its specificities yet to be explored. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Five ionic imidazolium based monomers, namely 1‐vinyl‐3‐ethylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (ILM1), 1‐vinyl‐3‐(diethoxyphosphinyl)‐propylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (ILM2), 1‐[2‐(2‐methyl‐acryloyloxy)‐propyl]‐3‐methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (ILM3), 1‐[2‐(2‐methyl‐acryloyloxy)‐undecyl]‐3‐methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (ILM4), 1‐vinyl‐3‐ethylimidazolium dicyanamide (ILM5) were prepared and used for the synthesis of linear polymeric ionic liquids (PILs), crosslinked networks with polyethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (PEGDM) and interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) based on polybutadiene (PB). The ionic conductivities of IPNs prepared using an in situ strategy were found to depend on the ILM nature, Tg and the ratio of the other components. Novel ionic IPNs are characterized by increased flexibility, small swelling ability in ionic liquids (ILs) along with high conductivity and preservation of mechanical stability even in a swollen state. The maximum conductivity for a pure IPN was equal to 3.6 × 10?5 S/cm at 20 °C while for IPN swollen in [1‐Me‐3‐Etim] (CN)2N σ reached 8.5 × 10?3 S/cm at 20 °C or 1.4 × 10?2 S/cm at 50 °C. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A versatile method was introduced to prepare cyclic polymers from both conjugated and unconjugated vinyl monomers. It was developed on the combination of the RAFT polymerization and the self‐accelerating double strain‐promoted azide‐alkyne click (DSPAAC) reaction. In this approach, a switchable chain transfer agent 1 was designed to have hydroxyl terminals and a functional pyridinyl group. The protonation and deprotonation of pyridinyl group endowed the chain transfer agent 1 with a switchable control capability to RAFT polymerization of both conjugated and unconjugated vinyl monomers. Based on this, RAFT polymerization and the following hydroxyl end group modification were used to prepare various azide‐terminated linear polymers including polystyrene, poly(N‐vinylcarbazole), and polystyrene‐block‐poly(N‐vinylcarbazole). Using sym‐dibenzo‐1,5‐cyclooctadiene‐3,7‐diyne (DBA) as small linkers, the corresponding cyclic polymers were then prepared via the DSPAAC reaction between DBA and azide terminals of the linear precursors. Due to the self‐accelerating property of DSPAAC reaction, this bimolecular ring‐closing reaction could efficiently produce the pure cyclic polymers using excess molar amounts of DBA to linear polymer precursors. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hyperbranched aryl polycarbonates were prepared via the polymerizations of A2B and AB2 monomers, which involved the condensation of chloroformate (A) functionalities with tert‐butyldimethylsilyl‐protected phenols (B), facilitated by reactions with silver fluoride. The polymerization of the A2B monomer gave hyperbranched polycarbonates bearing fluoroformate chain ends, which were hydrolyzed to phenolic chain‐end moieties and further elaborated to tert‐butyldimethylsilyl ether groups. The polymerization of the AB2 monomer gave tert‐butyldimethylsilyl ether‐terminated hyperbranched polycarbonates. The polymerizations were conducted at 23–70 °C in 20% acetonitrile/tetrahydrofuran in the presence of a stoichiometric excess of silver fluoride for 20–40 h to afford hyperbranched polycarbonates with weight‐average molecular weights exceeding 100,000 Da and polydispersity indices of typically 2–3. The degrees of branching were determined by a reductive degradation procedure followed by high‐performance liquid chromatography. Alternatively, the degrees of branching were measurable by solution‐state 1H NMR analyses and agreed with the statistical 50% branching expected for the polymerization of A2B and AB2 monomers not experiencing constructive or destructive electronic effects on the reactivity of the multiple functional groups. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To study the possibility of living cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers with a urethane group, 4‐vinyloxybutyl n‐butylcarbamate ( 1 ) and 4‐vinyloxybutyl phenylcarbamate ( 2 ) were polymerized with the hydrogen chloride/zinc chloride initiating system in methylene chloride solvent at ?30 °C ([monomer]0 = 0.30 M, [HCl]0/[ZnCl2]0 = 5.0/2.0 mM). The polymerization of 1 was very slow and gave only low‐molecular‐weight polymers with a number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of about 2000 even at 100% monomer conversion. The structural analysis of the products showed occurrence of chain‐transfer reactions because of the urethane group of monomer 1 . In contrast, the polymerization of vinyl ether 2 proceeded much faster than 1 and led to high‐molecular‐weight polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions (MWDs ≤ ~1.2) in quantitative yield. The Mn's of the product polymers increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion and continued to increase linearly after sequential addition of a fresh monomer feed to the almost completely polymerized reaction mixture, whereas the MWDs of the polymers remained narrow. These results indicated the formation of living polymer from vinyl ether 2 . The difference of living nature between monomers 1 and 2 was attributable to the difference of the electron‐withdrawing power of the carbamate substituents, namely, n‐butyl for 1 versus phenyl for 2 , of the monomers. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Linear polyurethanes based on sugar monomers having D ‐gluco, galacto, and D ‐manno configurations and their secondary hydroxyl groups protected as bicyclic acetals, have been prepared by polyaddition reaction of these diol monomers to hexamethylene diisocyanate ( HMDI ) and 4,4′‐methylene‐bis(phenyl isocyanate) ( MDI ). The new polyurethanes seem to be amorphous materials, except that obtained from 2,3:4,5‐di‐O‐methylene‐galactitol and HMDI. Weight‐average molecular weights, determined by GPC, were in the range 16,000–115,200. TGA analyses indicated that the thermal stability of these bicyclic polyurethanes is comparable to those based on the isosorbide; both the onset and the maximum rate decomposition temperatures increased significantly with respect to the polyurethanes based on acyclic sugar monomers. The presence of the acetalized alditol units in the polyurethanes also increased the Tgs as compared with their acyclic analogs. Deacetalization of the polyurethanes containing di‐O‐isopropylidene‐D ‐mannitol units yielded the polyhydroxylated polymers in good yields, without apparent degradation of the polymer chain. These hydroxylated polymers showed an enhanced hydrophilicity and degradability and lower Tgs and thermal stability than their parent acetalized polyurethanes. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New diene and dithiol monomers, based on aromatic imides such as benzophenone‐3,3′,4,4′‐tetracarboxylic diimide were synthesized and used in thiol‐ene polymerizations which yield poly(imide‐co‐thioether)s. These linear polymers exhibit limited solubility in various organic solvents. The molecular weights of the polymers were found to decrease with increasing imide content. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of these polymers is dependent on imide content, with Tg values ranging from ?55 °C (with no imide) up to 13 °C (with 70% imide). These thermal property improvements are due to the H‐bonding and rigidity of the aromatic imide moieties. Thermal degradation, as studied by thermogravimetric analysis, was not significantly different to the nonimide containing thiol‐ene polymers made using trimethyloylpropane diallyl ether and 3,5‐dioxa‐1,8‐dithiooctane. It is expected that such monomers may lead to increased glass transition temperatures in other thiol‐ene polymer systems as these normally exhibit low glass transition temperatures. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, a variety of hyperbranched polymers (HBPs), such as hyperbranched polycarbonates, polyesters, polyurethanes and polyacetals, was successfully synthesized from castor oil and soybean oil based monomers via a A2 + B3 polycondensation. First, B3 monomer triols (TriOL), trialdehydes (TriAD), and tricarboxylic acids (TriAC) were obtained by ozonolysis of castor oil and soybean oil with following reductive or oxidative treatment. Their structures were characterized by 1H NMR and ATR‐FTIR spectroscopy as well as electrospray ionization‐Time of Flight‐mass spectrometry. These trifunctional B3 monomers were applied in the preparation of HBPs. The resulting HBPs had number averaged molar mass (Mn) up to 9400 g/mol and weight averaged molar mass (Mw) up to 40,000 g/mol. Through adjusting the initial molar ratio of A2 to B3 monomers, hydroxyl terminated (from TriOL monomers) or carboxylic acid (from TriAC monomers) terminated HBPs could be obtained. All the HBPs were characterized by 1H NMR, size exclusion chromatography, and DSC. These HBPs are potential candidates for the synthesis of cross‐linked polymeric materials or in biomedical applications. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. The living free radical polymerizations of three “less activated” monomers (LAMs), vinyl acetate, N‐vinylcarbazole, and N‐vinylpyrrolidone, were successfully achieved in the presence of a disulfide, isopropylxanthic disulfide (DIP), using 2,2′‐azoisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the initiator. The living behaviors of polymerizations of LAMs are evidenced by first‐order kinetic plots and linear increase of molecular weights (Mns) of the polymers with monomer conversions, while keeping the relatively low molecular weight distributions, respectively. The effects of reaction temperatures and molar ratios of components on the polymerization were also investigated in detail. The polymerization proceeded with macromolecular design via interchange of xanthate process, where xanthate formed in situ from reaction of AIBN and DIP. The architectures of the polymers obtained were characterized by GPC, 1H NMR, UV–vis, and MALDI‐TOF‐MS spectra, respectively. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Living cationic copolymerization of amide‐functional vinyl ethers with isobutyl vinyl ether (IBVE) was achieved using SnCl4 in the presence of ethyl acetate at 0 °C: the number–average molecular weight of the obtained polymers increased in direct proportion to the monomer conversion with relatively low polydispersity, and the amide‐functional monomer units were introduced almost quantitatively. To optimize the reaction conditions, cationic polymerization of IBVE in the presence of amide compounds, as a model reaction, was also examined using various Lewis acids in dichloromethane. The combination of SnCl4 and ethyl acetate induced living cationic polymerization of IBVE at 0 °C when an amide compound, whose nitrogen is adjacent to a phenyl group, was used. The versatile performance of SnCl4 especially for achieving living cationic polymerization of various polar functional monomers was demonstrated in this study as well as in our previous studies. Thus, the specific properties of the SnCl4 initiating system are discussed by comparing with the EtxAlCl3?x systems from viewpoints of hard and soft acids and bases principle and computational chemistry. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The free radical reactivity ratios between styrene and different vinyl‐1,2,3‐triazole regioisomeric monomers in 1,4‐dioxane at 65 °C have been established using nonlinear least square method. The results obtained for the reactivity ratio between regioisomers show exceptionally different polymerization behavior, highlighting the effects of the electronic and steric factors of these regioisomeric monomers. The experimental results highlight the effects of the electronic and sterics on the copolymerization behavior. In case of 1,4‐vinyl‐triazoles, it was found that without the steric effects, the reactivity is very similar to that of styrene and forms random copolymers. However, it was found that 1,5‐vinyl‐triazoles are more reactive than 1,4‐vinyl triazoles. In the case of styrene‐co‐1,4‐vinyl‐1,2,3‐triazoles, the reactivity ratios were calculated to be rstyrene: r1‐octyl‐4‐vinyl‐triazole = 1.97:0.54, rstyrene : r1‐benzyl‐4‐vinyl‐triazole = 1.62:0.50, and rstyrene: r1‐methyl‐4‐vinyl‐triazole = 0.90:0.87. On the other hand, reactivity ratios for styrene‐co‐1,5‐vinyl‐1,2,3‐triazoles were found to be rstyrene: r1‐octyl‐5‐vinyl‐triazole = 0.13:0.66 and rstyrene: r1‐benzyl‐5‐vinyl‐triazole = 0.34:0.49. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
