We prepared the sequence‐controlled block copolymers including poly(1‐adamantyl acrylate) (PAdA) and poly(n‐butyl acrylate) sequences as the hard and soft segments, respectively, by the organotellurium‐mediated living radical polymerization. The thermal, optical, and mechanical properties of the adamantane‐containing block copolymers with polar 2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) and acrylic acid (AA) repeating units were investigated. The microphase‐separated structures of the block copolymers were confirmed by the differential scanning calorimetry and atomic force microscopy observations as well as dynamic mechanical measurements. The α‐ and β‐dispersions due to the main‐chain and side group molecular motions, respectively, of the hard and soft segments were observed. Their transition temperatures and activation energies increased due to the formation of intermolecular hydrogen bonding by the introduction of the HEA and AA repeating units. The effects of the hydrogen bonding on their tensile elasticity, strength, and strain were also evaluated. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Terpolymerization of norbornene (NB), isoprene (IP), and 1‐octene was achieved by using fluorenylamido‐ligated titanium catalyst, which showed very high activity for the copolymerization of NB and various α‐olefins. The content of IP in the terpolymer was controlled by the feed ratio and reaction temperature up to 7 mol %. The incorporated IP was mainly inserted in 1,4‐addition. The polymer was dissolved into common solvents such as toluene and chloroform, which enabled the preparation of a transparent film by solution casting process. The degradation temperature of the terpolymer was comparable with other cyclic olefin copolymers and the glass transition temperature (Tg) was higher than that of NB‐1‐octene copolymer with almost the same NB content. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A poly(p‐phenylene) (PPP)‐poly(4‐diphenylaminostyrene) (PDAS) bipolar block copolymer was synthesized for the first time. A prerequisite prepolymer, poly(1,3‐cyclohexadiene) (PCHD)‐PDAS binary block copolymer, in which the PCHD block consisted solely of 1,4‐cyclohexadiene (1,4‐CHD) units, was synthesized by living anionic block copolymerization of 1,3‐cyclohexadiene and 4‐diphenylaminostyrene. To obtain the PPP‐PDAS bipolar block copolymer, the dehydrogenation of this prepolymer with quinones was examined, and tetrachloro‐1,2‐(o)‐benzoquinone was found to be an appropriate dehydrogenation reagent. This dehydrogenation reaction was remarkably accelerated by ultrasonic irradiation, effectively yielding the target PPP‐PDAS bipolar block copolymer. The hole and electron drift mobilities for PPP‐PDAS bipolar block copolymer were both on the order of 10?3 to 10?4 cm2/V·s, with a negative slope when plotted against the square root of the applied field. Therefore, this bipolar block copolymer was found to act as a bipolar semi‐conducting copolymer. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

Novel, biodegradable poly(?‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(trans‐4‐hydroxy‐N‐benzyloxycarbonyl‐L ‐proline)‐block‐poly(?‐caprolactone) triblock copolymers were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization from dihydroxyl‐terminated macroinitiator poly(trans‐4‐hydroxy‐N‐benzyloxycarbonyl‐L ‐proline) (PHpr) and ?‐caprolactone (?‐CL) with stannous octoate as the catalyst. The molecular weights were characterized with gel permeation chromatography and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry. With an increase in the contents of ?‐CL incorporated into the copolymers, a decrease in the glass‐transition temperature (Tg) was observed. The Tg values of copoly(4‐phenyl‐?‐caprolactone) and copoly(4‐methyl‐?‐caprolactone) were higher than Tg of copoly(?‐caprolactone). Their micellar characteristics in an aqueous phase were investigated with fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy. The block copolymers formed micelles in the aqueous phase with critical micelle concentrations in the range of 1.00–1.36 mg L?1. With higher molecular weights and hydrophobic components in the copolymers, a higher critical micelle concentration was observed. As the feed weight ratio of antitriptyline hydrochloride (AM) to the polymer increased, the drug loading increased. The micelles exhibited a spherical shape, and the average size was less than 250 nm. The in vitro hydrolytic degradation and controlled drug release properties of the triblock copolymers were also investigated. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of poly(cyclohexylethylene‐b‐ethylene‐co‐ethylethylene) (C‐E/EE) diblock copolymers containing approximately 50% by volume glassy C blocks and varying fraction (x) of EE repeat units, 0.07 ≤ x ≤ 0.90, was synthesized by anionic polymerization and catalytic hydrogenation. The effects of ethyl branch content on the melt state segment–segment (χ) interaction parameter and soft (E/EE) block crystallinity were studied. The percent crystallinity ranged from approximately 30% at x = 0.07 to 0% at about x ≥ 0.30, while the melting temperature changed from 101 °C at x = 0.07 to 44 °C at x = 0.28. Dynamic mechanical spectroscopy was employed to determine the order–disorder transition (ODT) temperatures, from which χ was calculated assuming the mean‐field prediction (χNn)ODT = 10.5. Previously published results for the temperature dependent binary interaction parameters for C‐E (x = 0.07), C‐EE (x = 0.90), and E‐EE (x = 0.07 and x = 0.90) fail to account for the quantitative x dependence of χ, based on a simple binary interaction model. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Living anionic polymerization of an acetal protected 4‐hydroxystyrene monomer, (4‐(2‐tetrahydropyranyloxy)styrene) (OTHPSt), and the chain extension of the poly(OTHPSt) anion with a variety of monomers including styrene, 4‐tert‐butylstyrene, methacryloyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (MAPOSS) and hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane is demonstrated. The P(OTHPSt) homopolymer has a glass transition temperature well above room temperature, which facilitates handling and purification of the protected poly(4‐hydroxystyrene) (PHS). The resulting diblock copolymers have narrow dispersities <1.05. Chemoselective mild deprotection conditions for the P(OTHPSt) block were identified to prevent simultaneous degradation of the MAPOSS or dimethylsiloxane (DMS) block, thus allowing for the first reported synthesis of P(HS‐b‐DMS) and P(HS‐b‐MAPOSS). © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Three alternative routes, using the heterobifunctional macroinitiator technique, have been developed to obtain polystyrene–poly(tert‐butyl methacrylate)–poly(ethylene oxide) triarm star block copolymers. Only the route showing the reverse initiation of tert‐butyl methacrylate on potassium alkoxide leads to the pure star, whereas the other strategies lead to incomplete initiation because of either an increase in the side reactions, such as transesterification, or a decrease in the accessibility toward bulky catalysts. These limits are linked to the particular location of the initiating group at the junction of the two blocks of the copolymer precursor. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We have developed a metal free synthetic pathway to homopolypeptide rod‐coil block copolymers. The concept was proven for the synthesis of poly(benzyl‐L ‐glutamate‐b‐styrene). A dual initiator containing a primary amine and a nitroxide group was used in a macroinitiation approach with high initiation efficiency. Good control over the molecular weight in the ring opening polymerization of benzyl‐L ‐glutamate N‐carboxyanhydride was obtained in DMF at 0 °C yielding poly(benzyl‐L ‐glutamates) with low polydispersities around 1.1. The almost quantitative incorporation of the dual initiator was confirmed by MALDI‐ToF analysis. Macroinitiation of styrene by nitroxide‐mediated controlled radical polymerization yielded the block copolymer with high structural control. The diblock structure was confirmed by molecular weight increase upon macroinitiation by size exclusion chromatography and retention time comparison with homopolymers using gradient polymer elution chromatography. Both polymerizations were also successfully conducted in one pot without intermediate isolation owing to the high compatibility of both polymerization techniques. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We demonstrate, in this article, the facile synthesis of a broad class of low‐polydispersity ethylene–norbornene (E–NB) copolymers having various controllable comonomer composition distributions, including gradient, alternating, diblock, triblock, and block–gradient, through “living”/quasiliving E–NB copolymerization facilitated with a single Pd – diimine catalyst ( 1 ). This synthesis benefits from two remarkable features of catalyst 1 , its high capability in NB incorporation and high versatility in rendering E–NB “living” copolymerization at various NB feed concentrations ([NB]0) while under an ethylene pressure of 1 atm and at 15 °C. At higher [NB]0 values between 0.42 and 0.64 M, E–NB copolymerization with 1 renders nearly perfect alternating copolymers. At lower [NB]0 values (0.11–0.22 M), gradient copolymers yield due to gradual reduction in NB concentration, with the starting chain end containing primarily alternating segments and the finishing end being hyperbranched polyethylene segments. Through two‐stage or three‐stage “living” copolymerization with sequential NB feeding, diblock or triblock copolymers containing gradient block(s) have been designed. This work thus greatly expands the family of E–NB copolymers. All the copolymers have controllable molecular weight and relatively low polydispersity (with polydispersity index below 1.20). Most notably, some of the gradient and block–gradient copolymers have been found to exhibit the characteristic broad glass transitions as a result of their possession of broad composition distribution. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. PFPE‐b‐PVDF and PFPE‐b‐poly(VDF‐co‐HFP) block copolymers [where PFPE, PVDF, VDF, and HFP represent perfluoropolyether, poly(vinylidene fluoride), vinylidene fluoride (or 1,1‐difluoroethylene), and hexafluoropropylene] were synthesized by radical (co)telomerizations of VDF (or VDF and HFP) with an iodine‐terminated perfluoropolyether (PFPE‐I). Di‐tert‐butyl peroxide (DTBP) was used and was shown to act as an efficient thermal initiator. The numbers of VDF and VDF/HFP base units in the block copolymers were assessed with 19F NMR spectroscopy. According to the initial [PFPE‐I]0/[fluoroalkenes]0 and [DTBP]0/[fluoroalkenes]0 molar ratios, fluorinated block copolymers of various molecular weights (1500–30,300) were obtained. The states and thermal properties of these fluorocopolymers were investigated. The compounds containing PVDF blocks with more than 30 VDF units were crystalline, whereas all those containing poly(VDF‐co‐HFP) blocks exhibited amorphous states, whatever the numbers were of the fluorinated base units. All the samples showed negative glass‐transition temperatures higher than that of the starting PFPE. Interestingly, these PFPE‐b‐PVDF and PFPE‐b‐poly(VDF‐co‐HFP) block copolymers exhibited good thermostability. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 160–171, 2003  相似文献

Well‐defined poly(vinyl acetate) macroinitiators, with the chains thus end‐capped by a cobalt complex, were synthesized by cobalt‐mediated radical polymerization and used to initiate styrene polymerization at 30 °C. Although the polymerization of the second block was not controlled, poly(vinyl acetate)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers were successfully prepared and converted into amphiphilic poly(vinyl alcohol)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers by the methanolysis of the ester functions of the poly(vinyl acetate) block. These poly(vinyl alcohol)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers self‐associated in water with the formation of nanocups, at least when the poly(vinyl alcohol) content was low enough. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The dehydrogenation of poly(1,3‐cyclohexadiene)–polystyrene binary block copolymers obtained by anionic copolymerization with alkyllithium/amine systems was investigated for the first time. The dehydrogenation of the poly(1,3‐cyclohexadiene) block, which was composed of 1,2‐cyclohexadiene (1,2‐CHD) and 1,4‐cyclohexadiene (1,4‐CHD) units, was strongly affected by the polymer chain structure. The existence of 1,2‐CHD units prevented the dehydrogenation of the poly(1,3‐cyclohexadiene) block in the binary block copolymer. The rate of dehydrogenation was fast on a long sequence of 1,4‐CHD units, whereas it was relatively slow for 1,2‐CHD/1,4‐CHD (≈1/1) unit sequences. The bonding of the polystyrene block to the polymer chain effectively improved not only the rate of dehydrogenation of a long sequence of 1,4‐CHD units but also that of the polymer chain with a high content of 1,2‐CHD units. The dehydrogenation of a poly(1,3‐cyclohexadiene) block containing a small number of 1,2‐CHD units progressed via step‐by‐step reactions. The dehydrogenation of a long sequence of 1,4‐CHD units proceeded as the first step. Subsequently, in the second step, the 1,2‐CHD/1,4‐CHD (≈1/1) unit sequences remaining in the polymer chain were dehydrogenated. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Block copolymers of poly(glycidol)‐b‐poly(4‐vinylpyridine) were obtained by ATRP of 4‐vinylpyridine initiated by ω‐(2‐chloropropionyl) poly(glycidol) macroinitiators. By changing the monomer/macroinitiator ratio in the synthesis polymers with varied P4VP/PGl molar ratio were obtained. The obtained block copolymers showed pH sensitive solubility. It was found that the linkage of a hydrophilic poly(glycidol) block to a P4VP influenced the pKa value of P4VP. DLS measurements showed the formation of fully collapsed aggregates exceeding pH 4.7. Above this pH values the collapsed P4VP core of the aggregates was stabilized by a surrounding hydrophilic poly(glycidol) corona. The size of the aggregates depended significantly upon the composition of the block copolymers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 1782–1794, 2009  相似文献

Supramolecular complexes of alkali metals were used as catalysts in the polymerization of isoprene via a two‐electron‐transfer mechanism. The obtained polyisoprene, having a living end group, was subsequently used to initiate methyl methacrylate polymerization in tetrahydrofuran. Polyisoprene–poly(methyl methacrylate) block copolymers were obtained, and their structure was established with 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and experiments of selective extraction. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel, near‐monodisperse, well‐defined ABA triblock copolymer, poly[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate]‐b‐poly(propylene oxide)‐b‐poly[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate], was synthesized via oxyanion‐initiated polymerization. The initiator was a telechelic‐type potassium alcoholate prepared from poly(propylene glycol) and KH in dry tetrahydrofuran. The copolymers produced were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, 1H NMR, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). GPC and 1H NMR analyses showed that the products obtained were the desired copolymers, with narrow molecular weight distributions (ca. 1.09–1.11) very close to that of the original poly(propylene glycol). 1H NMR, surface tension measurements, and dynamic light scattering all indicated that the triblock copolymer led to interesting aqueous solution behaviors, including temperature‐induced micellization and very high surface activity. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly[(caprolactone‐co‐lactide)‐b‐perfluoropolyether‐b‐(caprolactone‐co‐lactide)] copolymers (TXCLLA) were prepared by ring‐opening polymerization of D ,L ‐dilactide (LA2) and caprolactone (CL) in the presence of α,ω‐hydroxy terminated perfluoropolyether (Fomblin Z‐DOL TX) as macroinitiator and tin(II) 2‐ethylexanoate as catalyst. 1H NMR analysis showed that LA2 is initially incorporated into the copolymer preferentially with respect to CL. A blocky structure of the polyester segment was also indicated by the sequence distribution analysis of the monomeric units. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis showed the compatibility between poly(lactide) (PLA) and poly(caprolactone) (PCL) blocks inside the amorphous phase with glass‐transition temperature values increasing from ?60 to ?15 °C by increasing the PLA content. Copolymers with high average length of CL blocks were semicrystalline with a melting temperature ranging from +35 to +47 °C. Surface analysis showed a high surface activity of TXCLLA copolymers with values of surface tension independent from the PLA/PCL content and very close to those of pure TX. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Arborescent copolymers with a core‐shell‐corona (CSC) architecture, incorporating a polystyrene (PS) core, an inner shell of poly(2‐vinylpyridine), P2VP, and a corona of PS chains, were obtained by anionic polymerization and grafting. Living PS‐b‐P2VP‐Li block copolymers serving as side chains were obtained by capping polystyryllithium with 1,1‐diphenylethylene before adding 2‐vinylpyridine. A linear or arborescent (generation G0 – G3) PS substrate, randomly functionalized with acetyl or chloromethyl coupling sites, was then added to the PS‐b‐P2VP‐Li solution for the grafting reaction. The grafting yield and the coupling efficiency observed in the synthesis of the arborescent PS‐g‐(P2VP‐b‐PS) copolymers were much lower than for analogous coupling reactions previously used to synthesize arborescent PS homopolymers and PS‐g‐P2VP copolymers from the same types of coupling sites. It was determined from static and dynamic light scattering analysis that PS‐b‐P2VP formed aggregates in THF, the solvent used for the synthesis. This presumably hindered coupling of the macroanions with the substrate, and explains the low grafting yield and coupling efficiency observed in these reactions. Purification of the crude products was also problematic due to the amphipolar character of the CSC copolymers and the block copolymer contaminant. A new fractionation method by cloud‐point centrifugation was developed to purify copolymers of generations G1 and above. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Hydrophilic/CO2‐philic poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(1,1,2,2‐tetrahydroperfluorodecyl acrylate) block copolymers were synthesized via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, iodine transfer polymerization (ITP), and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) in the presence of either degenerative transfer agents or a macroinitiator based on poly(ethylene oxide). In this work, both RAFT and ATRP showed higher efficiency than ITP for the preparation of the expected copolymers. More detailed research was carried out on RAFT, and the living character of the polymerization was confirmed by an ultraviolet (UV) analysis of the ? SC(S)Ph or ? SC(S)S? C12H25 end groups in the polymer chains. The quantitative UV analysis of the copolymers indicated a number‐average molecular weight in good agreement with the value determined by 1H NMR analysis. The properties of the macromolecular surfactants were investigated through the determination of the cloud points in neat liquid and supercritical CO2 and through the formation of water‐in‐CO2 emulsions. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The grafting of poly(methylmethacrylate) onto poly(ethylene‐co‐1‐octene) by in situ radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate is a process where the side reactions are difficult to characterize. To increase the understanding of both the nature and the extent of such reactions, products resulting from the same chemical system, where polymer is replaced by squalane and/or pentadecane, are analyzed. The influence of the temperature, the nature of peroxides (used as radicals generators) and the monomer concentration are investigated toward the chain length of the grafts. The resulting grafted PMMA and PMMA homopolymer are qualitatively analyzed by MALDI‐TOF spectroscopy and size exclusion chromatography. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
