The sharp-line absorption spectrum of cis-beta-[CrCl(2)(2,2,3-tet)]ClO(4) (2,2,3-tet: 1,4,7,11-tetraazaundecane) has been measured between 13,000 and 16,000 cm(-1) at 5K. The 77K emission, 298 K infrared and visible spectra have also been measured. The zero-phonon band in the highly resolved absorption spectrum splits into four components. The vibrational intervals of the electronic ground state were determined from the far-infrared and emission spectra. The 10 electronic bands due to spin-allowed and spin-forbidden transitions were assigned. Using the observed transitions, a ligand field analysis has been performed to probe the ligand field properties of coordinated atoms in the title chromium(III) complex. The X-ray crystal structure at low-temperature was determined to help in assigning the sharp-line electronic transitions.  相似文献

Co(2+)cobalmain (Co(2+)Cbl) is implicated in the catalytic cycles of all adenosylcobalamin (AdoCbl)-dependent enzymes, as in each case catalysis is initiated through homolytic cleavage of the cofactor's Co-C bond. The rate of Co-C bond homolysis, while slow for the free cofactor, is accelerated by 12 orders of magnitude when AdoCbl is bound to the protein active site, possibly through enzyme-mediated stabilization of the post-homolysis products. As an essential step toward the elucidation of the mechanism of enzymatic Co-C bond activation, we employed electronic absorption (Abs), magnetic circular dichroism (MCD), and resonance Raman spectroscopies to characterize the electronic excited states of Co(2+)Cbl and Co(2+)cobinamide (Co(2+)Cbi(+), a cobalamin derivative that lacks the nucleotide loop and 5,6-dimethylbenzimazole (DMB) base and instead binds a water molecule in the lower axial position). Although relatively modest differences exist between the Abs spectra of these two Co(2+)corrinoid species, MCD data reveal that substitution of the lower axial ligand gives rise to dramatic changes in the low-energy region where Co(2+)-centered ligand field transitions are expected to occur. Our quantitative analysis of these spectral changes within the framework of time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations indicates that corrin-based pi --> pi transitions, which dominate the Co(2+)corrinoid Abs spectra, are essentially insulated from perturbations of the lower ligand environment. Contrastingly, the Co(2+)-centered ligand field transitions, which are observed here for the first time using MCD spectroscopy, are extremely sensitive to alterations in the Co(2+) ligand environment and thus may serve as excellent reporters of enzyme-induced perturbations of the Co(2+) state. The power of this combined spectroscopic/computational methodology for studying Co(2+)corrinoid/enzyme active site interactions is demonstrated by the dramatic changes in the MCD spectrum as Co(2+)Cbi(+) binds to the adenosyltransferase CobA.  相似文献

Deoxyribonucleic acid photosensitization, i.e. the photoinduced electron‐ or energy‐transfer of chromophores interacting with DNA, is a crucial phenomenon that triggers important DNA lesions such as pyrimidine dimerization, even upon absorption of relatively low‐energy radiation. Oxidative lesions may also be produced via the photoinduced production of reactive oxygen species. Aromatic ketones, and acetophenone in particular, are well known for their sensitization effects. In this contribution we model the structural and dynamical properties of the acetophenone/DNA aggregates as well as their spectroscopic and photophysical properties using high‐level hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics methods. We show that the key steps of the photochemistry of acetophenone in gas phase are conserved in the macromolecular environment and thus an ultrafast singlet–triplet conversion of acetophenone is expected prior to the transfer to DNA.  相似文献

The electronic structure and metal-metal bonding in the classic d(7)d(7) tetra-bridged lantern dimer [Pt(2)(O(2)CCH(3))(4)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) has been investigated by performing quasi-relativistic Xalpha-SW molecular orbital calculations on the analogous formate-bridged complex. From the calculations, the highest occupied and lowest unoccupied metal-based levels are delta(Pt(2)) and sigma(Pt(2)), respectively, indicating a metal-metal single bond analogous to the isoelectronic Rh(II) complex. The energetic ordering of the main metal-metal bonding levels is, however, quite different from that found for the Rh(II) complex, and the upper metal-metal bonding and antibonding levels have significantly more ligand character. As found for the related complex [W(2)(O(2)CH)(4)], the inclusion of relativistic effects leads to a further strengthening of the metal-metal sigma bond as a result of the increased involvement of the higher-lying platinum 6s orbital. The low-temperature absorption spectrum of [Pt(2)(O(2)CCH(3))(4)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) is assigned on the basis of Xalpha-SW calculated transition energies and oscillator strengths. Unlike the analogous Rh(II) spectrum, the visible and near-UV absorption spectrum is dominated by charge transfer (CT) transitions. The weak, visible bands at 27 500 and 31 500 cm(-)(1) are assigned to Ow --> sigma(Pt(2)) and OAc --> sigma(Pt(2)) CT transitions, respectively, although the donor orbital in the latter transition has around 25% pi(Pt(2)) character. The intense near-UV band around 37 500 cm(-)(1) displays the typical lower energy shift as the axial substituents are changed from H(2)O to Cl and Br, indicative of significant charge transfer character. From the calculated oscillator strengths, a number of transitions, mostly OAc --> sigma(Pt-O) CT in nature, are predicted to contribute to this band, including the metal-based sigma(Pt(2)) --> sigma(Pt(2)) transition. The close similarity in the absorption spectra of the CH(3)COO(-), SO(4)(2)(-), and HPO(4)(2)(-) bridged Pt(III) complexes suggests that analogous spectral assignments should apply to [Pt(2)(SO(4))(4)(H(2)O)(2)](2)(-) and [Pt(2)(HPO(4))(4)(H(2)O)(2)](2)(-). Consequently, the anomalous MCD spectra reported recently for the intense near-UV band in the SO(4)(2)(-) and HPO(4)(2)(-) bridged Pt(III) complexes can be rationalized on the basis of contributions from either SO(4) --> sigma(Pt-O) or HPO(4) --> sigma(Pt-O) CT transitions. The electronic absorption spectrum of [Rh(2)(O(2)CCH(3))(4)(H(2)O)(2)] has been re-examined on the basis of Xalpha-SW calculated transition energies and oscillator strengths. The intense UV band at approximately 45 000 cm(-)(1) is predicted to arise from several excitations, both metal-centered and CT in origin. The lower energy shoulder at approximately 40 000 cm(-)(1) is largely attributed to the metal-based sigma(Rh(2)) --> sigma(Rh(2)) transition.  相似文献

We have synthesized the complex [Ru(bpy)(2)(bpy(OH)(2))](2+) (bpy =2,2'-bipyridine, bpy(OH)(2) = 4,4'-dihydroxy-2,2'-bipyridine). Experimental results coupled with computational studies were utilized to investigate the structural and electronic properties of the complex, with particular attention paid toward the effects of deprotonation on these properties. The most distinguishing feature observed in the X-ray structural data is a shortening of the CO bond lengths in the modified ligand upon deprotonation. Similar results are also observed in the computational studies as the CO bond becomes double bond in character after deprotonating the complex. Electrochemically, the hydroxy-modified bipyridyl ligand plays a significant role in the redox properties of the complex. When protonated, the bpy(OH)(2) ligand undergoes irreversible reduction processes; however, when deprotonated, reduction of the substituted ligand is no longer observed, and several new irreversible oxidation processes associated with the modified ligand arise. pH studies indicate [Ru(bpy)(2)(bpy(OH)(2))](2+) has two distinct deprotonations at pK(a1) = 2.7 and pK(a2) = 5.8. The protonated [Ru(bpy)(2)(bpy(OH)(2))](2+) complex has a characteristic UV/Visible absorption spectrum similar to the well-studied complex [Ru(bpy)(3)](2+) with bands arising from Metal-to-Ligand Charge Transfer (MLCT) transitions. When the complex is deprotonated, the absorption spectrum is altered significantly and becomes heavily solvent dependent. Computational methods indicate that the deprotonated bpy(O(-))(2) ligand mixes heavily with the metal d orbitals leading to a new absorption manifold. The transitions in the complex have been assigned as mixed Metal-Ligand to Ligand Charge Transfer (MLLCT).  相似文献

Emission and UV-vis absorption spectra of (hydrotris(pyrazolyl)borato)(triphenylarsine)copper(I), (CuTpAsPh3), (hydrotris(pyrazolyl)borato)(triethylamine)copper(I), (CuTpNEt3), and (hydrotris(pyrazolyl)borato)(triphenylphosphine)copper(I), (CuTpPPh3), are reported. The spectra of the arsine complex contain low-energy bands (with a band maximum at 16,500 cm(-1) in emission and a weak shoulder centered at about 25,000 cm(-1) in absorption) that are not present in the corresponding spectra of the amine or phosphine complexes. The lowest energy electronic transition is assigned to ligand to ligand charge transfer (LLCT) with some contribution from the metal. This assignment is consistent with PM3(tm) molecular orbital calculations that show the HOMO to consist primarily of pi orbitals on the Tp ligand (with some metal orbital character) and the LUMO to be primarily antibonding orbitals on the AsPh3 ligand (also with some metal orbital character). The absorption shoulder shows a strong negative solvatochromism, indicative of a reversal or rotation of electric dipole upon excitation, and consistent with a LLCT. The trends in the energies of the electronic transitions and the role of the metal on the LLCT are discussed.

The effects of a solvent on the two-photon absorption of microsolvated formaldehyde and liquid water have been studied using hybrid coupled-cluster/molecular mechanics (CC/MM) response theory. Both water and formaldehyde were considered solvated in water, where the solvent water molecules were described within the framework of molecular mechanics. Prior to the CC/MM calculations, molecular dynamics simulations were performed on the water/formaldehyde and water/water aggregates and many configurations were generated. By carrying out CC/MM response calculations on the individual configurations, it was possible to obtain statistically averaged results for both the excitation energies and two-photon absorption cross sections. For liquid water, the comparison between one- and two-photon absorption spectra is in good agreement with the experimental data available in the literature. In particular, the lowest energy transition occurring in the one-photon absorption spectrum of water only occurs with a relatively small strength in the two-photon absorption spectrum. This result is important for the interpretation of two-photon absorption data as these results show that in the absence of selection rules that determine which transitions are forbidden, the spectral profile of the two-photon absorption spectrum can be significantly different from the spectral profile of the one-photon absorption spectrum.  相似文献

Boron azadipyrromethenes are red-light-absorbing dyes with chromophoric capabilities deriving from a conjugated, chelating framework. Reported here are tricoordinate copper(I), silver(I), and gold(I) complexes of a tetraphenylazadipyrromethene ligand. The new complexes are characterized by optical absorption and emission spectroscopy, multinuclear NMR, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, and X-ray diffraction crystallography. Time-dependent density functional theory calculations indicate that the principal absorption features in azadipyrromethene complexes result from optically allowed intraligand transitions that undergo configuration interaction.  相似文献

Optical absorption of a gold nanocluster of 102 Au atoms protected by 44 para-mercaptobenzoic acid (p-MBA) ligands is measured in the range of 0.05-6.2 eV (mid-IR to UV) by a combination of several techniques for purified samples in solid and solution phases. The results are compared to calculations for a model cluster Au(102)(SMe)(44) based on the time-dependent density functional theory in the linear-response regime and using the known structure of Au(102)(p-MBA)(44). The measured and calculated molar absorption coefficients in the NIR-vis region are comparable, within a factor of 2, in the absolute scale. Several characteristic features are observed in the absorption in the range of 1.5-3.5 eV. The onset of the electronic transitions in the mid-IR region is experimentally observed at 0.45 ± 0.05 eV which compares well with the lowest calculated transition at 0.55 eV. Vibrations in the ligand layer give rise to fingerprint IR features below the onset of low-energy metal-to-metal electronic transitions. Partial exchange of the p-MBA ligand to glutathione does not affect the onset of the electronic transitions, which indicates that the metal core of the cluster is not affected by the ligand exchange. The full spectroscopic characterization of the Au(102)(p-MBA)(44) reported here for the first time gives benchmarks for further studies of manipulation and functionalization of this nanocluster to various applications.  相似文献

Femto- to picosecond excited-state dynamics of the complexes [Re(L)(CO)(3)(N,N)](n) (N,N = bpy, phen, 4,7-dimethyl-phen (dmp); L = Cl, n = 0; L = imidazole, n = 1+) were investigated using fluorescence up-conversion, transient absorption in the 650-285 nm range (using broad-band UV probe pulses around 300 nm) and picosecond time-resolved IR (TRIR) spectroscopy in the region of CO stretching vibrations. Optically populated singlet charge-transfer (CT) state(s) undergo femtosecond intersystem crossing to at least two hot triplet states with a rate that is faster in Cl (~100 fs)(-1) than in imidazole (~150 fs)(-1) complexes but essentially independent of the N,N ligand. TRIR spectra indicate the presence of two long-lived triplet states that are populated simultaneously and equilibrate in a few picoseconds. The minor state accounts for less than 20% of the relaxed excited population. UV-vis transient spectra were assigned using open-shell time-dependent density functional theory calculations on the lowest triplet CT state. Visible excited-state absorption originates mostly from mixed L;N,N(?-) → Re(II) ligand-to-metal CT transitions. Excited bpy complexes show the characteristic sharp near-UV band (Cl, 373 nm; imH, 365 nm) due to two predominantly ππ*(bpy(?-)) transitions. For phen and dmp, the UV excited-state absorption occurs at ~305 nm, originating from a series of mixed ππ* and Re → CO;N,N(?-) MLCT transitions. UV-vis transient absorption features exhibit small intensity- and band-shape changes occurring with several lifetimes in the 1-5 ps range, while TRIR bands show small intensity changes (≤5 ps) and shifts (~1 and 6-10 ps) to higher wavenumbers. These spectral changes are attributable to convoluted electronic and vibrational relaxation steps and equilibration between the two lowest triplets. Still slower changes (≥15 ps), manifested mostly by the excited-state UV band, probably involve local-solvent restructuring. Implications of the observed excited-state behavior for the development and use of Re-based sensitizers and probes are discussed.  相似文献

The red phosphorescent osmium(II) complexes [Os(LR)2(PH3)2] (L = 2-pyridyltriazole (ptz): R = H (1a), CF3 (1b), t-Bu (1c)); L = 2-pyridylpyrazole (ppz): R = H (2a), CF3 (2b), t-Bu (2c)); L = 2-phenylpyridine (ppy): R = H (3a)) were explored using density functional theory (DFT) methods. The ground- and excited-state geometries of the complexes were optimized at the B3LYP/LANL2DZ and UB3LYP/LANL2DZ levels, respectively. The absorption and phosphorescence of the complexes in CH2Cl2 media were calculated based on the optimized ground- and excited-state geometries using time-dependent density functional theory method with the polarized continuum model. The optimized geometry structural parameters of the complexes in the ground state agree well with the corresponding experimental values. The lower-lying unoccupied molecular orbitals of the complexes are dominantly localized on the L ligand, while the higher-lying occupied ones are composed of Os(II) atom and L ligand. The low-lying metal-to-ligand and intraligand charge transfer (MLCT/ILCT) transitions and high-lying ILCT transitions are red-shifted with the increase in the π-donating ability of the L ligand and the π electron-donating ability of R substituent. The calculation revealed that the phosphorescence originated from 3MLCT/3ILCT excited state. However, the complex 3a displayed different types of MLCT/ILCT excited state compared with that of 1a2c, and the different types of transition were also found in the absorption. In addition, we found that the phosphorescence quantum efficiency of Os(II) complexes is related to the metal composition in the high-energy occupied molecular orbitals, it will be helpful to designing highly efficient phosphorescent materials.  相似文献

The first designed molecular catalyst for water oxidation is the "blue dimer", cis,cis-[(bpy)(2)(H(2)O)Ru(III)ORu(III)(OH(2))(bpy)(2)](4+). Although there is experimental evidence for extensive electronic coupling across the μ-oxo bridge, results of earlier DFT and CASSCF calculations provide a model with magnetic interactions of weak to moderately coupled Ru(III) ions across the μ-oxo bridge. We present the results of a comprehensive experimental investigation, combined with DFT calculations. The experiments demonstrate both that there is strong electronic coupling in the blue dimer and that its effects are profound. Experimental evidence has been obtained from molecular structures and key bond distances by XRD, electrochemically measured comproportionation constants for mixed-valence equilibria, temperature-dependent magnetism, chemical properties (solvent exchange, redox potentials, and pK(a) values), XPS binding energies, analysis of excitation-dependent resonance Raman profiles, and DFT analysis of electronic absorption spectra. The spectrum can be assigned based on a singlet ground state with specific hydrogen-bonding interactions with solvent molecules included. The results are in good agreement with available experimental data. The DFT analysis provides assignments for characteristic absorption bands in the near-IR and visible regions. Bridge-based dπ → dπ* and interconfiguration transitions at Ru(III) appear in the near-IR and MLCT and LMCT transitions in the visible. Reasonable values are also provided by DFT analysis for experimentally observed bond distances and redox potentials. The observed temperature-dependent magnetism of the blue dimer is consistent with a delocalized, diamagnetic singlet state (dπ(1)*)(2) with a low-lying, paramagnetic triplet state (dπ(1)*)(1)(dπ(2)*)(1). Systematic structural-magnetic-IR correlations are observed between ν(sym)(RuORu) and ν(asym)(RuORu) vibrational energies and magnetic properties in a series of ruthenium-based, μ-oxo-bridged complexes. Consistent with the DFT electronic structure model, bending along the Ru-O-Ru axis arises from a Jahn-Teller distortion with ∠Ru-O-Ru dictated by the distortion and electron-electron repulsion.  相似文献

The photophysical and DNA‐binding properties of the cationic zinc(II) complex of 5‐triethylammonium methyl salicylidene ortho‐phenylenediiminato (ZnL2+) were investigated by a combination of experimental and theoretical methods. DFT calculations were performed on both the ground and the first excited states of ZnL2+ and on its possible mono‐ and dioxidation products, both in vacuo and in selected solvents mimicked by the polarizable continuum model. Comparison of the calculated absorption and fluorescence transitions with the corresponding experimental data led to the conclusion that visible light induces a two‐electron photooxidation process located on the phenylenediiminato ligand. Kinetic measurements, performed by monitoring absorbance changes over time in several solvents, are in agreement with a slow unimolecular photooxidation process, which is faster in water and slower in less polar solvents. Moreover, structural details of ZnL–DNA binding were obtained by DFT calculations on the intercalation complexes between ZnL and the d(ApT)2 and d(GpC)2 dinucleoside monophosphate duplexes. Two main complementary binding interactions are proposed: 1) intercalation of the central phenyl ring of the ligand between the stacked DNA base pairs; 2) external electrostatic attraction between the negatively charged phosphate groups and the two cationic triethylammonium groups of the Schiff‐base ligand. Such suggestions are supported by fluorescence titrations performed on the ZnL/DNA system at different ionic strengths and temperatures. In particular, the values of the DNA‐binding constants obtained at different temperatures provided the enthalpic and entropic contributions to the binding and confirmed that two competitive mechanisms, namely, intercalation and external interaction, are involved. The two mechanisms are coexistent at room temperature under physiological conditions.  相似文献

The two stereoisomers formed on reaction of each of the enantiomers of [PtCl2(tmdz)] with d(GpG) have been identified by using one- and two-dimensional 1H NMR spectroscopy. For both isomers formed with the R enantiomer the 3'-H8 shifts are downfield from those for the 5'-H8. For the S enantiomer the reverse is observed, showing that the bulky tmdz ligand determines the pattern of shifts. Models of these isomers generated by molecular mechanics show that the bulky tmdz ligand limits the rotation of the guanine bases and enforces right-handed (R2) canting for both isomers formed by the R enantiomer and left-handed (L1) canting for those formed by the S enantiomer. The pattern of H8 shifts is the opposite to that expected for these cantings; this suggests that other factors may play a role in determining these shifts. The interactions between the tmdz and d(GpG) ligands are also shown by molecular mechanics and the broadness of the H8 NMR signals to influence the tendency of the coordinated guanine bases to rotate about their Pt-N7 bonds. Reaction of each of the enantiomers with a 52 base-pair nucleotide, with a total of six GpG binding sites, resulted in the formation of only one of the stereoisomers in each case, the first reported case of complete stereoselectivity, or stereospecificity, in the reaction of Pt complexes with DNA. The observed stereoisomers were identified by comparison with the properties of the d(GpG) complexes. Molecular mechanics models of the adducts with duplex DNA show that the nonformation of one stereoisomer is consistent with the steric bulk of the tmdz ligand preventing closure from the monofunctional adduct to the bifunctional adduct. Enantioselectivity is also observed in that the R enantiomer forms more monofunctional adducts than bifunctional (59:41), whereas the S enantiomer forms more bifunctional adducts (27:73). The origins of this enantioselectivity must be at the level of monofunctional adduct formation and this has been investigated by molecular mechanics modelling.  相似文献

The ground and excited state properties of copper proteins are studied and analyzed using hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics technique. Wild-type plastocyanin, characterized by an intense blue color, and wild-type nitrosocyanin, a red protein, are considered. These proteins differ from some ligands of the copper containing chromophore; we also studied the effects of selective mutations of one of the active site residue in plastocyanin. It is shown that this mutation is able to strongly modify the UV/VIS spectrum continuously modifying the absorption spectrum of the protein that from blue becomes red. Electrostatic and polarization effects of the macromolecular environment on the chromophore are taken into account using original techniques. Principal transitions are analyzed by mean of natural transition orbitals.  相似文献

Semiempirical molecular orbital theory and semiclassical solvent effect theory are used to analyze the conformational and electronic properties of the 12-s-cis and 12-s-trans conformers of 11-cis retinal. The goal is to examine the influence of solvent environment on the equilibrium geometries of these conformers as well as to provide a perspective on the electronic transitions that contribute to the four band systems that are observed in the 200-500 nm region of the optical spectrum. We conclude that the 12-s-cis isomer is more stable in vacuum, but that the 12-s-trans conformer is preferentially stabilized in both polar and nonpolar solvent environment due to dispersive as well as electrostatic interactions. This observation is in substantial agreement with previous literature results. In contrast, our analysis of the excited state manifold indicates that the spectral features observed in the absorption spectrum are associated with a complex set of overlapping transitions. A total of 18 pi*<--pi transitions contribute to the four bands, and in some cases, conformation changes the relative contribution of the individual transitions that define the overall band shape. This study provides the first definitive assignments for all four band systems.  相似文献

Geometry optimizations of the quinoline-based platinum (II) complexes (1-R, 2-R) and their related calculations on excited state energies, electronic absorption spectra and orbital populations have been carried out by the hybrid density functional theory (DFT) and its time-dependent approach (TD-DFT). The solvent effects on excitation energies are taken into account using the conductor-like polarizable continuum model (C-PCM). The red-shifted level of absorption bands, energy gaps between the singlet ground state (S1) and the first triplet excited state (T1) for each examined complex have been elaborated thoroughly as well. We find that the quinoline-8-thoil (ligand 2) induces much more significant red-shifted level than 8-hydroxyquinoline (ligand 1), and singlet-triplet splitting energy gaps of all examined complexes are bigger than threshold energy to yield singlet oxygen. It is revealed that the electronic red-shifted absorption bands originate from metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) transitions, and also shown that the quinoline-based Pt (II) complexes with strong donor groups could be considered as potential candidates for unearthing of novel photosensitizers in photodynamic therapy (PDT).  相似文献
