On the embedding of anisotropic Nikol’skiĭ-Besov mixed norm spaces

The embedding of the anisotropic spaces $B_{p_1 , \ldots ,p_n ,\theta }^{\omega _1 , \ldots ,\omega _n } \left( {\mathbb{R}^n } \right)$ with mixed norm is studied. We establish some necessary and sufficient conditions of the embedding $B_{p_1 , \ldots ,p_n ,\theta }^{\omega _1 , \ldots ,\omega _n } \left( {\mathbb{R}^n } \right) \subset L^{q_1 , \ldots ,q_n } \left( {\mathbb{R}^n } \right)$ .     

The ortho-diameters of Nikol’skii and Besov classes in the Lorentz spaces

In this paper we estimate the order of approximation of S. M. Nikol’skii and O. V. Besov classes in the norm of the anisotropic Lorentz space. We also obtain bounds for ortho-diameters of these classes.     

On general Bernstein and Nikol’ski type inequalities

The goal of this paper is to establish the relations between general Bernstein and Nikol’ski type inequalities under some weak conditions. From these relations some known classical inequalities are implied. Also, a family of functions equipped with Bernstein type inequality which satisfies Nikol’ski type inequality is found.     

Embedding of Lipschitz classes into classes of functions of Λ-bounded variation

In this note, sufficient or necessary conditions for embedding of Lipschitz classes , 1?p<∞ into classes ΛBV of functions of Λ-bounded variation are considered. Based on the technique of decomposition of functions, we obtain sufficient and necessary conditions for the embedding , 0<α,β?1.     

Inclusions of Waterman–Shiba spaces into generalized Wiener classes

The characterization of the inclusion of Waterman–Shiba spaces ΛBV^(p)$\Lambda {\mathit{BV}}^{(p)}$ into generalized Wiener classes of functions BV(q;δ)$\mathit{BV}(q;\delta )$ is given. It uses a new and shorter proof and extends an earlier result of U. Goginava.     

Relations between mixed moduli of smoothness,and embedding theorems for Nikol’skii classes

We prove (L _p , L _q ) inequalities for mixed moduli of smoothness of positive orders. As corollaries, we obtain embedding theorems for the Nikol’skii classes.     

Embedding theorems of Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces on spaces of homogeneous type

In this paper, the author establishes the embedding theorems for different metrics of inhomoge-neous Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces on spaces of homogeneous type. As an application, the author obtains some estimates for the entropy numbers of the embeddings in the limiting cases between some Besov spaces and some logarithmic Lebesgue spaces.     

Are generalized Lorentz ``spaces' really spaces?

We show that the Lorentz space need not be a linear set for certain ``non-classical" weights . We establish necessary and sufficient conditions on and for this situation to occur.

     

Interpolation theorems on weighted Lorentz martingale spaces

In this paper several interpolation theorems on martingale Lorentz spaces are given.The proofs are based on the atomic decompositions of martingale Hardy spaces over weighted measure spaces.Applying the interpolation theorems,we obtain some inequalities on martingale transform operator.     

Fourth-Order p-Laplacian Nonlinear Systems via the Vector Version of Krasnosel’skiĭ’s Fixed Point Theorem

In this paper, existence results for a fourth-order nonlinear system are obtained. Both classical and vector versions of the Krasnosel’skiĭ’s fixed point theorem are used and a comparison of the obtained results to those from the literature is provided.     

Embedding ofl ∞ k in finite dimensional Banach spaces

Letx ₁,x ₂, ...,x _n ben unit vectors in a normed spaceX and defineM _n =Ave{‖Σ _i=1 ⁿ ε₁ x _i ‖:ε₁=±1}. We prove that there exists a setA⊂{1, ...,n} of cardinality such that {x _i } _i∈A is 16M _n -isomorphic to the natural basis ofl _∞ ^k . This result implies a significant improvement of the known results concerning embedding ofl _∞ ^k in finite dimensional Banach spaces. We also prove that for every ∈>0 there exists a constantC(∈) such that every normed spaceX _n of dimensionn either contains a (1+∈)-isomorphic copy ofl ₂ ^m for somem satisfying ln lnm≧1/2 ln lnn or contains a (1+∈)-isomorphic copy ofl _∞ ^k for somek satisfying ln lnk>1/2 ln lnn−C(∈). These results follow from some combinatorial properties of vectors with ±1 entries. The contribution of the first author to this paper forms part of his Ph.D. Thesis written under the supervision of Prof. M. A. Perles from the Hebrew University.     

Hölder type inequalities in Lorentz spaces

We study optimal Hölder type inequalities for the Lorentz spaces L ^p,s (R, μ), in the range 1 < p < ∞, 1 ≤ s ≤ ∞, for both the maximal and the dual norms. These estimates also give sharp results for the corresponding associate norms.     

On extensions of Pełczyński’s decomposition method in Banach spaces

Let X and Y be Banach spaces such that each of them is isomorphic to a complemented subspace of the other. In 1996, W. T. Gowers solved the Schroeder-Bernstein Problem for Banach spaces by showing that X is not necessarily isomorphic to Y. In this paper, we give suitable conditions on finite sums of X and Y to yield that X^m is isomorphic to Yⁿ for some In other words, we obtain some extensions of the well-known Pełczyński decomposition method in Banach spaces. In order to do this, we introduce the notion of Nearly Schroeder-Bernstein Quadruples for Banach spaces and pose a Conjecture to characterise them. Received: 5 January 2005
