One of the first physics results that CMS will hopefully obtain will be the analysis of heavy quarkonium productions, including the Υ cross-section measurement. Since the Υ production cross-section from p-p collisions is expected to be relatively large, the analysis should be viable with rather small datasets which will be available soon after the start-up of the LHC. This paper describes the methods and plans for measuring the differential cross-section of Y(1S) →μ^+μ- production, by using data to be collected from the CMS detector in the first LHC run. In this study, about 80 thousand Υ are reconstructed corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.4 pb^-1 in 10 TeV proton-proton collisions by using Monte Carlo data. The precision of this measurement is estimated to be about 16%, which is limited by the systematic errors.  相似文献

We report the methods and plans for measuring the differential cross section of J/ψ→μ^+μ^- production, using data to be collected in the first LHC run by the CMS detector. Making use of the large B-hadron lifetime, we show how to separate the promptly produced J/ψ’s from those coming from B-hadron decays. Since the J/ψ production cross section is expected to be large, the analysis should be viable with relatively small data sets, that will become available early in the startup of the LHC. We also address effects of a non-perfect detector alignment, as well as systematic uncertainties. About 70 thousand J/ψ decays are reconstructed from Monte Carlo data, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3 pb^-1 in 14 TeV collisions, in the range of pT^J/ ψbetween 5 and 40 GeV/c. The precision of the result is limited by systematic uncertainties, and is at the 15% level.  相似文献

Significant enhancements of J/ψ production at very low transverse momenta were recently observed by the ALICE and STAR collaborations in peripheral hadronic A+A collisions. The anomalous excess points to coherent photon-nucleus interactions in violent hadronic heavy-ion collisions, which were conventionally studied only in ultra-peripheral collisions. Assuming that the coherent photoproduction is the underlying mechanism responsible for the excess observed in peripheral A+A collisions, its contribution in p+p collisions with nuclear overlap, i.e. nonsingle-diffractive collisions, is of particular interest. In this paper, we perform a calculation of exclusive J/ψ photoproduction in non-single-diffractive p+p collisions at the RHIC and LHC energies based on the pQCD motivated parametrization using the world-wide experimental data, which could be further employed to improve the precision of the phenomenological calculations for photoproduction in A+A collisions. The differential rapidity and transverse momentum distributions of J/ψ from photoproduction are presented. In comparison with the J/ψ production from hadronic interactions, we find that the contribution of photoproduction is negligible.  相似文献

For the HLS-bunch current measurement system,in order to obtain the absolute value of bunch current,the calibration factor should be determined by using DCCT.At the HLS storage ring,the stretch efect of bunch length is observed and the change rate is about 19% when the bunch current decays over time and this will afect the performance of bunch current detection.To overcome the bunch stretch influence in the HLS-bunch current measurement,an evaluation about pickup type and signal processing is carried out.Strip-line pickup and button pickup are selectable,and the theoretical analysis and demonstration experiment are performed to find out an acceptable solution for the bunch current measurement system at HLS-.The experimental data analysis shows that the normalized calibration factor will change by about 27% when the bunch length changes by about 19% if using the button pickup and processing by peak value of bunch signal;the influence will be reduced to 2% less if adopting the strip-line pickup and integral.  相似文献

The production of Ξ_(cc)~(++) baryons in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s~(1/2)=13 TeV is measured in the transverse-momentum range 4 pT15 GeV/c and the rapidity range 2.0 y4.5.The data used in this measurement correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 fb~(-1),recorded by the LHCb experiment during2016.The ratio of the Ξ_(cc)~(++) production cross-section times the branching fraction of the Ξ_(cc)~(++)→Λ_c~+K~-π~+π~+ decay relative to the prompt Λ_c~+production cross-section is found to be(2.22±0.27±0.29)×10~(-4),assuming the central value of the measured Ξ_(cc)~(++) lifetime,where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.  相似文献

One of the first measurements that will be made at the LHC by ATLAS deals with the properties of inelastic collisions,namely the central charged particle density and transverse momentum distributions.Current predictions of these distributions have large uncertainties in the LHC energy range.We describe the ATLAS minimum bias triggers,designed to select all kind of inelastic interactions,and the performance of the track reconstruction software which was adapted to soft particle track reconstruction.The precision with which the minimum bias distributions can be measured with early data is presented and the uncertainties on the inelastic distributions due to trigger bias is discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, the J/ψ nuclear absorption effect is studied at RHIC and LHC energies with the EKS98 shadowing parameterizations. We investigate the parton distribution function(PDF) uncertainty in the measurement of the effective weak mixing angle sin ~2θ_(eff)~l at the CERN Large Hadron Collider(LHC).The PDF-induced uncertainty is large in proton-proton collisions at the LHC due to the dilution effect.The measurement of the Drell-Yan forward-backward asymmetry(AFB) at the LHC can be used to reduce the PDF uncertainty in the sin~2θ_(eff)~l measurement.However,when including the full mass range of lepton pairs in the A_(FB) data analysis,the correlation between the PDF updating procedure and the sin~2θ_(eff)~l extraction leads to a sizable bias in the obtained sin ~2θ_(eff)~l value.From our studies,we find that the bias can be significantly reduced by removing Drell-Yan events with invariant mass around the Z-pole region,while most of the sensitivity in reducing the PDF uncertainty remains.Furthermore,the lepton charge asymmetry in the Wboson events as a function of the rapidity of the charged leptons,A_±(η_l),is known to be another observable which can be used to reduce the PDF uncertainty in the sin~2θ_(eff)~l measurement.The constraint from A_±(η_l)is complementary to that from A_(FB),and thus no bias affects the sin~2θ_(eff)~l extraction.The studies are performed using the error PDF Updating Method Package(ePump),which is based on Hessian updating methods.In this article,the CT14 HERA2 PDF set is used as an example.  相似文献

The ALICE detector at LHC( CERN),will record raw data at a rate of 1.2 Gigabytes per second.Trying to analyse all this data at CRN will not be feasible.As originally proposed by the MONARC project,dta collected at CERN will be transferred to remote centres to use their computing infrastructure,The remote centres will reconstruct and analyse the events.and make available the results.Therefore high-rate data transfer between computing centres(Tiers)will become of paramount importance.This paper will present several tests that have been made between CERN and remote centres in Padova(Italy),Torino(Italy),Catania(Italy),Lyon(France),Ohio(United States),Warsaw(Poland)and Calcutta( India),These tests consisted,in a first stage,of sending raw data from CERN to the remote centres and back,using a ftp method that allows connections of several streams at the same time.Thanks to these multiple streams,it is possilble to increase the rate at which the data is transferred.While several “multiple stream ftp solutions“ already exist,our method is based on a parallel socket implementation which allows,besides files,also objects(or any large message)to be send in parallel.A prototype will be presented able to manage different transfers.This is the first step of a system to be implemented that will be able to take care of the connections with the remote centres to exchange data and monitor the status of the transfer.  相似文献

The associated production of Higgs boson with a muon pair, e~+e~-→μ+μ-H, is one of the golden channels to pin down the properties of the Higgs boson in the prospective Higgs factories exemplified by CEPC.The projected accuracy of the corresponding cross section measurement is about per cent level at CEPC. In this work, we investigate both O(α) weak correction and the O(ααs) mixed electroweak-QCD corrections for this channel,appropriately taking into account the effect of finite Z~0 width. The μ~+μ~-invariant mass spectrum is also predicted.The mixed electroweak-QCD correction turns out to reach 1.5% of the Born-order result, and thereby must be included in future confrontation with the data. We also observe that, after including higher-order corrections, the simplified prediction for the integrated cross section employing the narrow-width-approximation may deviate from our full result by a few per cents.  相似文献

A concrete two-dimensional photonic crystal slab with triangular lattice used as a mirror for the light at wavelength 1.3μm with a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrate is designed by the three-dimensional plane wave expansion method. For TE-like modes, the bandgap in the Г-K direction is from 1087nm to 1559nm. The central wavelength in the bandgap is about 1.3μm, hence the incident light at wavelength 1.3μm will be strongly reflected. Experimentally, such a photonic crystal slab is fabricated on an SOI substrate by the combination of EBL and ICP etching. The measurement of its transmission characteristics shows the bandgap edge in a longer wavelength is about 1540 nm. The little discrepancy between the experimental data and the theoretical values is mainly due to the size discrepancy of the fabricated air holes.  相似文献

The indirect estimation of the Higgs Boson mass from electroweak radiative corrections within the Standard Model is compared with the directly measured value obtained by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations at the CERN LHC collider. Treating the direct measurement of m_H as input, the Standard Model indirect estimation of the top-quark mass is also obtained and compared with its directly measured value. A model-independent analysis finds an indirect value of m_H of ■70 GeV, below the directly measured value of 125.7±0.4 GeV and an indirect value:m_t = 177.3±1.0 GeV, above the directly measured value: 173.21±0.87 GeV. A goodness-of-fit test to the Standard Model using all Z-pole observables and mW has a χ~2 probability of ■2%. The reason why probability values about a factor of ten larger than this, and indirect estimates of m H about 30 GeV higher, have been obtained in recent global fits to the same data is recalled.  相似文献

The CMS experiment at the CERN LHC collider is producing large amounts of simulated data in order to provide an adequate statistic for the Trigger System design.These productions are performed in a distributed environment,prototyping the hierarchical model of LHC computing centers developed by MONARC.A GRID approach is being used for interconnecting the Regional Centers.The main issues which are currently addressed are:automatic submission of data production requests to available productioin sites,data transfer among production sites,“best-replica” location and submission of enduser analysis job to the appropriate Regional Center,In each production site different hardware configurations are being tested and exploited.Furthermore robust job submission systems.which are also able to provide the needed bookkeeping of the produced data are being developed.BOSS(Batch Object Submission System)is an interface to the local computing center scheduling system that has been developed in order to allow recording in a relational database of information produced by the jobe running on the batch facilities A summary of the current activites and a plan for the use of DataGrid PM9 tools are presented.  相似文献

We determine the strong coupling constant α s up to 4-loop in perturbative QCD.Testing QCD requires the measurement of α s over ranges of energy scales.In this analysis,the value of α s is determined from the unpolarized structure functions data points by minimizing the χ 2 function between the theory result and experimental data.Using perturbative QCD calculations from threshold corrections,we obtain α s (M 2 Z ) = 0.1139±0.0020 at N 3 LO which is in good agreement with the very recently results from the inclusive jet cross section in pp collisions at√ s=1.96 TeV.  相似文献

The high-precision measurement of Higgs boson properties is one of the primary goals of the Circular Electron Positron Collider(CEPC).The measurements ofH→b■/c■/gg decay branching fraction in the CEPC experiment is presented,considering a scenario of analysing 5000 fb-1 e~+e~-collision data with the center-of-mass energy of 250 Ge V.In this study the Higgs bosons are produced in association with a pair of leptons,dominantly mediated by the ZH production process.The statistical uncertainty of the signal cross section is estimated to be about 1%in theH→b■ final state,and approximately 5%-10%in theH→c■/gg final states.In addition,the main sources of the systematic uncertainties and their impacts to the measurements of branching fractions are discussed.This study demonstrates the potential of precise measurement of the hadronic final states of the Higgs boson decay at the CEPC,and will provide key information to understand the Yukawa couplings between the Higgs boson and quarks,which are predicted to be the origin of quarks’masses in the standard model.  相似文献

The CDF experiment started data taking in April 2001,The data are organized into datasets which contain events of similar physics properties and reconstruction version.the information about datasets is stored in the Data File Catalog,a relational database.This information is presented to the data processing framework as objects which are retrieved using compound keys.The objects and the keys are designed to be the algorithms‘ view of information stored in the database.Objects may use several DB tables.A database interface management layer exists for the purpose of managing the mapping of persistent data to transient objects that can be used by the framework.This layer exists between the algorithm code and the code which reads directly from datanbase tables.At the user end,it places get/put interface on a top of a transient class for retrieval or storage of objects of this class using a key.Data File Catalog code makes use of this facility and contains all the code needed to manipulate CDF Data File Catalog from a C program or from the command prompt,It supports an Oracle interface using OTL,and a mSQL interface,This code and the Oravcle implementation of Data File Catalog were subjected to test during CDF Commissioning Run last fall and during first weeks of Run II in April.It performed exceptionally well.  相似文献

In this paper,mathematical analysis shows that the reconstruction ofultrasonic reflection mode tomography using a single transducer acting as bothsource and receiver far from the object can be obtained by employingfiltered-backprojection algorithm which is widely used in X-ray tomography;but when the transducer is near to the object,this algorithm will result in imagedistortion.On the basis of mathematical analysis,we propose a new algorithm.Computer simulation demonstrates an obvious improvement in the reconstruct-ed images employing this algorithm over the conventionalfiltered-backprojection method of X-ray tomography.  相似文献
