We study the problem as to which is the cardinality of connected components of the graph Γα, defined as follows. Let G be a group and a an element of G. The vertex set V(Γα) of the graph is the conjugacy class of elements,Cl G(a), and two vertices x and y of the graph Γα are bridged by an edge iff x=y. If the intersectionC G(a)∩Cl G(a) is finite, Γα is locally finite. We prove that connected components of the locally finite graph Γα are finite in some classes of groups. Characterizations of finite groups by sets of orders of their elements   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
For a finite group G, ω(G) denotes the set of orders of its elements. If ω is a subset of the set of natural numbers, h(ω) stands for the number of pairwise nonisomorphic finite groups G for which ω(G)=ɛ. We prove that h(ω(G))=1, if G is isomorphic to S9, S11, S12, S13, or A12, and h(ω(G))=2 if G is isomorphic to S2(6) or to O 8 + (2). 01 Supported by RFFR grant No. 96-01-01893. We consider the random process at − v+(pt) + v−(−qt), t ∈ (−∞, −), where v− and v+ are independent standard Poisson processes if t ≥ 0 and v−(t) = v+(t) = 0 if t < 0. Under certain conditions on the parameters a, p, and q, we study the distribution function G = G(x) of the time of attaining the maximum for a trajectory of this process. In the present article, we find an exact asymptotics for the tails of G. We also find a connection between this problem and the statistical problem of estimation of an unknown discontinuity point of a density function.  相似文献

An anisotropic Sobolev and Nikol'skii-Besov space on a domain G is determined by its integro-differential (shortly, ID) parameters. On the other hand, the geometry of G is characterized by the set Λ(G) of all vectors λ=(λ1,..., λn) such that G satisfies the λ-horn condition. We study the dependence of the totality of possible embeddings upon the set Λ(G) and theID-parameters of the space. We consider only embeddings with q≥pi, where pi are the integral parameters of the space and q is the integral embedding parameter. For a given space, we introduce its initial matrix A0 determined by theID-parameters. A0 turns out to be a Z-matrix. On the basis of a natural classification of Z-matrices, a classification of anisotropic spaces is introduced. This classification allows one to restate the existence of an embedding with q≥pi in terms of certain specific properties of A0. Let A0 be a nondegenerate M-matrix. Any vector λ∈Λ(G) gives rise to a certain set of admissible values of the embedding parameters. We call λ optimal if this set is the largest possible. It turns out that the optimal vector λ G * is determined by Λ(G) and A0, and may be found by a linear optimization procedure. The following cases are possible: a) , b) , c) λ G * does not exist. In case a) the set of admissible values of the embedding parameters is the biggest, while in case c) no embeddings with q≥pi exist. In case b) the so-called saturation phenomenon occurs, i.e., certain variations of some differential parameters of the space do not change the set of admissible values of the embedding parameters. The latter fact has some applications to the problem of extension of all functions belonging to the given space from G to En. Bibliography: 20 titles. The maximal ideal space ΔG of the measure algebra M(G) of a locally compact abelian group G is a compact commutative semitopological semigroup. In this paper we show that cℓ Ĝ the closure of Ĝ, the dual of G, in ΔG can contain maximal subgroups which are not locally compact. We have previously characterized the locally compact maximal subgroups of cℓ Ĝ as arising from locally compact topologies on G which are finer than the original topology. Let ℳ be any quasivariety of Abelian groups, Lq(ℳ) be a subquasivariety lattice of ℳ, dom G be the dominion of a subgroup H of a group G in ℳ, and G/dom G (H) be a finitely generated group. It is known that the set L(G, H, ℳ) = {dom G N (H)| N ∈ Lq(ℳ)} forms a lattice w.r.t. set-theoretic inclusion. We look at the structure of dom G (H). It is proved that the lattice L(G,H,ℳ) is semidistributive and necessary and sufficient conditions are specified for its being distributive. __________ Translated from Algebra i Logika, Vol. 45, No. 4, pp. 484–499, July–August, 2006.  相似文献

We give an estimate for the spectrum of the averaging operator T1(Γ, 1) over the radius 1 for the finite (q+1)-homogeneous quotient graph Γ/X, where X is an infinite (q+1)-homogeneous tree associated with the free group G over a finite set of generators S={x1 ..., xp} (2p=q+1), and Γ, a subgroup of finite index in G. T1(Γ, 1) is defined on the subspace L2(Γ/G, 1) ⊖ Eex, where Eex is the subspace of eigenfunctions of T1(Γ, 1) with eigenvalue λ such that |λ|=q+1. We present a construction of some finite homogeneous graphs such that the spectrum of their adjacency matrices can be calculated explicitly. Bibliography: 11 titles. We study in this paper solutions of the translation equation in rings of formal power series K[X] where K ∈R, C (so called one-parameter groups or flows), and even, more generally, homomorphisms Ф from an abelian group (G, +) into the group Г(K) of invertible power series in K[X]. This problem can equivalently be formulated as the question of constructing homomorphisms Ф from (G, +) into the differential group Г1∞ describing the chain rules of higher order of C∞ functions with fixed point 0. In this paper we present the general form of these homomorphisms Ф : G → Г(K) (or L1∞),Ф = (fn n≤1,forwhich f1 = l, f2 = ... = fp+l =0,fp+2 ≠ 0 for fixed, but arbitrary p ≤ 0 (see Theorem 5, Corollary 6 and Theorem 6). This representation uses a sequence (w n p )n≥p+2 of universal polynomials in fp+2 and a sequence of parameters, which determines the individual one-parameter group. Instead of (w n p )n≥p+2 we may also use another sequence (L n p )n≥p+2 of universal polynomials, and we describe the connection between these forms of the solutions.  相似文献

Recognition of finite groups by a set of orders of their elements   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
For G a finite group, ω(G) denotes the set of orders of elements in G. If ω is a subset of the set of natural numbers, h(ω) stands for the number of nonisomorphic groups G such that ω(G)=ω. We say that G is recognizable (by ω(G)) if h(ω(G))=1. G is almost recognizable (resp., nonrecognizable) if h(ω(G)) is finite (resp., infinite). It is shown that almost simple groups PGLn(q) are nonrecognizable for infinitely many pairs (n, q). It is also proved that a simple group S4(7) is recognizable, whereas A10, U3(5), U3(7), U4(2), and U5(2) are not. From this, the following theorem is derived. Let G be a finite simple group such that every prime divisor of its order is at most 11. Then one of the following holds: (i) G is isomorphic to A5, A7, A8, A9, A11, A12, L2(q), q=7, 8, 11, 49, L3(4), S4(7), U4(3), U6(2), M11, M12, M22, HS, or McL, and G is recognizable by the set ω(G); (ii) G is isomorphic to A6, A10, U3(3), U4(2), U5(2), U3(5), or J2, and G is nonrecognizable; (iii) G is isomorphic to S6(2) or O 8 + (2), and h(ω(G))=2. This article deals with the asymptotic behavior as ε → 0 of the solution {u ɛ, p ɛ} of the plane Stokes problem in a perforated domain. The limit problem is constructed and estimates for the speed of convergence are obtained. It is shown that the speed of convergence is of order O(ε 3/2). __________ Translated from Trudy Seminara imeni I. G. Petrovskogo, No. 25, pp. 3–20, 2005.  相似文献

The flat rank of a totally disconnected locally compact group G, denoted flat-rk(G), is an invariant of the topological group structure of G. It is defined thanks to a natural distance on the space of compact open subgroups of G. For a topological Kac-Moody group G with Weyl group W, we derive the inequalities alg-rk(W) ≤ flat-rk(G) ≤ rk(|W|0). Here, alg-rk(W) is the maximal Z-rank of abelian subgroups of W, and rk(|W|0) is the maximal dimension of isometrically embedded flats in the CAT0-realization |W|0. We can prove these inequalities under weaker assumptions. We also show that for any integer n ≥ 1 there is a simple, compactly generated, locally compact, totally disconnected group G, with flat-rk(G) = n and which is not linear.  相似文献

We solve the problem of the elementary equivalence (definability) of the permutation groups over cardinals ℵα. We show that it suffices to solve the problem of elementary equivalence (definability) for the ordinals α in certain second order logic, and this is reduced to the case of α < (2 0)+. We solve a problem of Mycielski and McKenzie on embedding of free groups in permutation groups, and discuss some weak second-order quantifiers. An erratum to this article is available at .  相似文献

We prove that if the existence of a supercompact cardinal is consistent with ZFC, then it is consistent with ZFC that the p-rank of Ext (G, ℤ) is as large as possible for every prime p and for any torsion-free Abelian group G. Moreover, given an uncountable strong limit cardinal μ of countable cofinality and a partition of Π (the set of primes) into two disjoint subsets Π0 and Π1, we show that in some model which is very close to ZFC, there is an almost free Abelian group G of size 2μ = μ+ such that the p-rank of Ext (G, ℤ) equals 2μ = μ+ for every p ∈ Π0 and 0 otherwise, that is, for p ∈ Π1. This paper which is a continuation of [2], is essentially expository in nature, although some new results are presented. LetK be a local field with finite residue class fieldK k. We first define (cf. Definition 2.4) the conductorf(E/K) of an arbitrary finite Galois extensionE/K in the sense of non-abelian local class field theory as wheren G is the break in the upper ramification filtration ofG = Gal(E/K) defined by . Next, we study the basic properties of the idealf(E/K) inO k in caseE/K is a metabelian extension utilizing Koch-de Shalit metabelian local class field theory (cf. [8]). After reviewing the Artin charactera G : G → ℂ ofG := Gal(E/K) and Artin representationsA g G → G →GL(V) corresponding toa G : G → ℂ, we prove that (Proposition 3.2 and Corollary 3.5) where Χgr : G → ℂ is the character associated to an irreducible representation ρ: G → GL(V) ofG (over ℂ). The first main result (Theorem 1.2) of the paper states that, if in particular,ρ : G → GL(V) is an irreducible representation ofG(over ℂ) with metabelian image, then where Gal(Eker(ρ)/Eker(ρ)•) is any maximal abelian normal subgroup of Gal(Eker(ρ)/K) containing Gal(Eker(ρ) /K)′, and the break nG/ker(ρ) in the upper ramification filtration of G/ker(ρ) can be computed and located by metabelian local class field theory. The proof utilizes Basmaji’s theory on the structure of irreducible faithful representations of finite metabelian groups (cf. [1]) and on metabelian local class field theory (cf. [8]). We then discuss the application of Theorem 1.2 on a problem posed by Weil on the construction of a ‘natural’A G ofG over ℂ (Problem 1.3). More precisely, we prove in Theorem 1.4 that ifE/K is a metabelian extension with Galois group G, then Kazim İlhan ikeda whereN runs over all normal subgroups of G, and for such anN, V n denotes the collection of all ∼-equivalence classes [ω]∼, where ‘∼’ denotes the equivalence relation on the set of all representations ω : (G/N) → ℂΧ satisfying the conditions Inert(ω) = {δ ∈ G/N : ℂδ} = ω =(G/N) and where δ runs over R((G/N)/(G/N)), a fixed given complete system of representatives of (G/N)/(G/N), by declaring that ω1 ∼ ω2 if and only if ω1 = ω 2,δ for some δ ∈ R((G/N)/(G/N)). Finally, we conclude our paper with certain remarks on Problem 1.1 and Problem 1.3.  相似文献

We prove first that if G is a finite solvable group of derived length d ≥ 2, then k(G) > |G|1/(2d−1), where k(G) is the number of conjugacy classes in G. Next, a growth assumption on the sequence [G(i): G(i+1)] 1 d−1 , where G(i) is theith derived group, leads to a |G|1/(2d−1) lower bound for k(G), from which we derive a |G|c/log 2log2|G| lower bound, independent of d(G). Finally, “almost logarithmic” lower bounds are found for solvable groups with a nilpotent maximal subgroup, and for all Frobenius groups, solvable or not.  相似文献

We define and study a family of partitions of the wonderful compactification of a semisimple algebraic group G of adjoint type. The partitions are obtained from subgroups of G × G associated to triples (A1, A2, a), where A1 and A2 are subgraphs of the Dynkin graph Γ of G and a : A1 → A2 is an isomorphism. The partitions of of Springer and Lusztig correspond, respectively, to the triples (∅, ∅, id) and (Γ, Γ, id).  相似文献

In this paper, we study the asymptotic behavior of the solutionsu ε (ε is a small parameter) of boundaryvalue problems for the heat equation in the domain Ωε∪Ω ε + ∪γ one part of which (Ω ε + ) contains ε-periodically situated channels with diameters of order ε and the other part of which (Ω+) is a homogeneous medium; γ=∂Ω ε + ∩∂Ω+. On the boundary of the channels the Neumann boundary condition is posed, and on ∂Ωε∩∂Ω the Dirichlet boundary condition is prescribed. The homogenized problem is the Dirichlet problem in Ω with the transmission condition on γ. The estimates for the difference betweenu ε and the solution of the homogenized problem are obtained.
