Abstract

The Accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) of PAHs (23 2- to 6-ring species) spiked onto glass fibre filters (GFFs) was studied as a function of variable extraction solvents, pressure, temperature and extraction times. Acceptable recoveries (85% ± 15%) were obtained for certain combinations of conditions and a tentative method (1500 psi, 150°C, 70:30 hexane:acetone mixture, 7 min heat-up time, 5 min static extraction time, 60% flush volume, 2 static cycles was selected for further testing. However, this method did not prove as effective as the traditional Soxhlet method of extraction when these parameters were used to extract native PAHs from ambient atmospheric particulate matter collected on a GFF by Integrated Atmospheric Deposition Network (IADN) sampling protocols. The extraction recovery study for spiked GFFs was repeated using slightly different extraction conditions: 2000 psi, 100°C, 70:30 hexane:acetone, 5 min heat-up time, 5 min static extraction time, 150% flush volume, 3 static cycles. When this method was applied to the extraction of native PAHs from ambient atmospheric particulate matter collected on GFFs, the results showed equivalent or better recoveries to that of the Soxhlet method. The total time of extraction was 25 min requiring only 30 mL of solvent. This ASE method is presently used to quantitatively determine PAHs in IADN particle-phase samples.  相似文献

Ultrasound-assisted dispersive liquid?Cliquid microextraction (USA-DLLME) with low solvent consumption was demonstrated for gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC?CMS) determination of 16 typical polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in seawater samples. Factors affecting the extraction process, such as extraction and dispersive solvent, phase ratio, temperature, extraction and centrifugation time, were investigated thoroughly and optimized. The linear range was 20?C2,000 ng L?1 except for acenaphthylene (Acy) at 10?C2,000 ng L?1 and phenanthrene (Phe), fluoranthene (Flu) and pyrene (Py) all at 5?C2,000 ng L?1. Enrichment factors (EFs) ranging from 722 to 8,133 were obtained, achieving limits of detection at 1.0?C10.0 ng L?1. The method attained good precision (relative standard deviation, RSD) from 3.4 to 14.2% for spiked 50 ng L?1 individual PAHs standards. Method recoveries were in the range 87?C124% and 70?C127% for spiked samples from simulated seawater and beach seawater, respectively. The proposed USA-DLLME helped to obtain about 1.1?C10 times higher EFs in a minimum amount of solvent and in less time than traditional DLLME.  相似文献

A simple, rapid and efficient method termed dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction combined with liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection, has been developed for the extraction and determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in water and fruit juice samples. Parameters such as the kind and volume of extraction solvent and dispersive solvent, extraction time and salt effect were optimized. Under optimum conditions, the enrichment factors ranged from 296 to 462. The linear range was 0.01–100 μg L?1 and limits of detection were 0.001–0.01 μg L?1. The relative standard deviations (RSDs, for 5 μg L?1 of PAHs) varied from 1.0 to 11.5% (n = 3). The relative recoveries of PAHs from tap, river, well and sea water samples at spiking level of 5 μg L?1 were 82.6–117.1, 74.9–113.9, 77.0–122.4 and 86.1–119.3%, respectively. The relative recoveries of PAHs from grape and apple juice samples at spiking levels of 2.5 and 5 μg L?1 were 80.8–114.7 and 88.9–123.0%, respectively. It is concluded that the proposed method can be successfully applied for determination of PAHs in water and fruit juice samples.  相似文献

An extraction method of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from biosolids, based on continuous pressurized solvent extraction (PSE), was developed and optimized through an experimental design and followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry determination. From multivariate analysis, the optimum values for extraction variables were: extraction temperature, 110°C and dynamic extraction time, 42 min, by using a mixture of dichloromethane and acetone (1:1, v/v) as the extraction solvent at a flow rate of 1 ml min?1. Under optimum extraction conditions, the detection limits for the analytes were between 0.01 and 0.14 mg kg?1 with recoveries of between 50 and 126%, which were determined by analysis of certified reference material (Sewage Sludge PAH, LGC6182). The method was applied to assess the lability of PAHs in soils amended with biosolids. It was confirmed that a fraction of these compounds undergoes strong retention in the soil, probably due to interaction with humin material. On the other hand, the amount of PAHs extracted was significantly lower after the 30-day incubation process, which is clearly exacerbated in PAHs with molecular weight lower than 228. This effect observed in the four soils under study can be attributed to degradation of these compounds by soil and biosolid microorganisms.  相似文献

A multi-determination method has been developed for the determination and confirmation of 68 organic pollutants in water samples by gas chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS). The following chemical families were determined in a chromatographic run of less than 26?min: polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs), and pesticides (organochlorine, organophosphorus, triazine and others). The sample preparation involved a liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) procedure, obtaining recoveries ranging from 70 to 130% when dichloromethane was used as the extracting solvent. The detection limits of the proposed method were between 0.75 and 19.8?ng?L?1. Samples from the Maipo River in central Chile were taken from 29 different points. Seven pesticides and two PAHs were detected in field collected samples with concentrations ranging from 10 to 95?ngL?1. Concentrations of benzo[a]pyrene in environmental samples ranged from 25 to 33?ngL?1 and were near the maximum levels established by the European Union Directives (50?ng?L?1).  相似文献

An ultrasound-assisted emulsification microextraction (USAEME) based on low-density solvents was successfully applied for the extraction and pre-concentration of four toxic nitrophenols in water samples. The extracted analytes were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography-UV detection. The important parameters influencing the extraction efficiency were studied and optimized utilizing two different optimization methods: one variable at a time (OVAT) and central composite design (CCD). The results showed that the emulsification process can be completed in a few seconds using low-density solvents, but almost 10–20?min is necessary for high-density solvents. Under the optimum conditions (extraction solvent, 1-octanol; extraction solvent volume, 40?µL; sample pH, 3.0; salt concentration, 20% (w/v) NaCl; extraction temperature, 40 (±3)°C), limits of detection of the method were in the range of 0.25 to 1?µg?L?1 and the repeatability and reproducibility of the proposed method, expressed as relative deviation, varied in the range of 2.2–4.2% and 4.7–6.9%, respectively. Linearity was found to be in the range of 1 to 200?µg?L?1 and the preconcentration factors (PFs) were between 77 and 175. The relative recoveries of the four nitrophenols from water samples at spiking level of 10.0?µg?L?1 were in the range of 92.0 to 115.0%.  相似文献

Quantification of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in smoked fish products often requires multiple clean-up steps to remove fat and other compounds that may interfere with the chemical analysis. We present a novel pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) method that integrates exhaustive extraction with fat retention in one single analytical step. The PLE parameters: type of fat retainer, flush volume, solvent composition, fat-to-fat retainer ratio (FFR), and the dimensions of the extraction cells were the most important factors for obtaining fat-free extracts with high recoveries of PAHs. A 100 mL extraction cell filled with 18 g activated silica gel, dichloromethane:hexane (15:85, v/v) as extraction solvent, FFR of 0.025 and 100% flush volume was the best analytical setup for integrated extraction and fat retention. The one-step procedure provided a more rapid and cost-efficient alternative with minimization of waste generation compared to the standard reference method that is based on a multi-step procedure. Furthermore, the analytical quality of the two methods are comparable, while the new integrated approach for extraction and cleanup is less prone to analytical errors (random and systematic) because of fewer analytical steps.  相似文献

A simple and rapid method based on pressurized liquid extraction has been validated for the simultaneous extraction of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from agricultural soil samples. Effective extraction was carried out in less than 17 min for all the studied compounds, and good recoveries were obtained for PAHs and PCBs, ranging from 70% to 112%, when blank samples were spiked at 2.5 μg kg−1, except for naphthalene with recoveries close to 40%. The separation and determination were performed by gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry using a triple quadrupole mass analyzer. The target compounds were detected by electron impact with selected reaction monitoring, and mass spectrometric conditions were optimized in order to increase selectivity and sensitivity. The developed method was validated, and matrix-matched calibration was used for quantification purposes. Repeatability and interday precision ranged from 0.9% to 16.8% and from 1.6% to 22.3%, respectively. Limits of quantification ranged from 0.07 to 2.50 μg kg−1. The proposed method was applied to the analysis of agricultural soil samples collected from Almeria (Spain), and PAHs and PCBs were detected in some samples at concentrations ranging from 0.1 to 210 μg kg−1.  相似文献

A rapid, efficient and environmentally friendly method based on the ionic liquid (IL) 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([C6MIM][PF6]) was developed for the determination of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in mainstream tobacco smoke. This technique combined ionic liquid (IL) enrichment with solvent reverse extraction for the replacement of solid phase extraction and rotary evaporation in the traditional method and enriched PAHs in the organic solvent. Several parameters, including the type of ionic liquid, volume of ionic liquid and water, extraction time, vortex time and reverse extraction time, were optimized. After pretreatment, the analytes were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) using selective ion monitoring (SIM). Satisfactory results were achieved when this method was applied to determine PAHs in mainstream tobacco smoke. The calibration curves were linear with correlation coefficients ranging from 0.9955 to 0.9999 at concentration levels of 10–800?µg?L?1, and the relative standard deviations of the optimized method were between 0.7% and 5.3%. The limits of detection were 0.01–0.6?ng cig?1, and the recoveries of the compounds were 80.2–118%. A comparison of this protocol with literature methods demonstrated that the proposed procedure provides accurate and reliable sample-treatment for the determination of PAHs in tobacco samples.  相似文献

In this study, a simple and efficient method of ligandless-ultrasound-assisted emulsification microextraction (LL-USAEME) followed by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) has been developed for simultaneous extraction, preconcentration and determination of manganese, cadmium, cobalt and nickel in water samples. In the proposed approach, tetrachloroethylene was selected as extraction solvent. The effect of important experimental factors such as volume of extraction solvent, pH, sonication time, salt concentration, and temperature was investigated by using a fractional factorial design (25?1) to identify important factors and their interactions. In the next step, a Box-Behnken design (BBD) was applied for optimisation of significant factors. The obtained optimal conditions were: 30?µL for extraction solvent, 12 for pH, 5?min for sonication time, and 5% w/v for salt concentration. The limits of detections (LODs) for Cd(II), Co(II), Mn(II) and Ni(II) were 0.20, 0.13, 0.21 and 0.28?µg?L?1, respectively. Relative standard deviations (RSD, C?=?200.0?µg?L?1, n?=?9) were between 3.4–7.5% and the calibration graphs were linear in the range of 0.25 to 1000.0?µg?L?1 for Mn, 0.5–1000.0?µg?L?1 for Co and Ni and 1.0–250.0?µg?L?1 for Cd. The determination coefficients (R 2) of the calibration curves for the analytes were in the range of 0.993 to 0.999. The proposed method was validated by using two certified reference materials, and also the method was applied successfully for the determination of heavy metals in different real water samples.  相似文献

A simplified extraction method was developed for extracting high molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from river sediments. The samples were extracted 3 times with 5 mL of solvent (toluene:methanol, 9 : 1, v/v) at 100 °C, 10 minutes for each extraction. After clean‐up and concentration, extracts were analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometer (GC‐MS). The extraction efficiency and accuracy was evaluated by the standard reference material (SRM‐1941b). Comparing to certified values, the average recoveries of high molecular weight PAHs with 3, 4, 5 and 6 fused benzene rings were 72.9∼113.2 % (R.S.D. 2.3∼6.3 %) except those of dibenz[a,h]anthracene (206.2±4.6 %). The average recoveries for PAHs spiked sediment samples were comparable with accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) and Soxhlet methods. The simple extraction method consumes less solvent, fewer amount of sample than those of conventional methods. The lowest quantitation limit of PAHs is 1.1 μg/kg.  相似文献

Abstract

An accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) method has been developed for the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) present in both atmospheric particulate and gaseous phases in this study. Extraction parameters such as the combination of solvents, extraction temperature, and static extraction time were investigated and optimized. Effective extraction was achieved using a 3:1 mixture of n-hexane and acetone as extraction solvents at 100°C in 30 min for all the compounds studied. The optimized extraction method was compared with conventional extraction methods and validated using National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)–certified standard reference material (SRM) 1649a. The recoveries obtained for certified 12 PAHs were in the range of 82–126% with relative standard deviation (RSD) between 6 and 28%. The validated ASE technique was used followed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for the determination of PAHs distributed between gaseous and particulate phases in the atmosphere of Singapore. Total average concentrations of PAHs in air samples were 33.54 ± 19.32 ng m?3, with 4.72 ± 2.80 ng m?3 in particulate phase and 28.82 ± 16.92 ng m?3 in gaseous phase, respectively. The results obtained from this study are compared to those reported from other areas of the world.  相似文献

A reliable method was proposed for the simultaneous determination of five fluoroquinolones (FQs) and two tetracyclines (TCs) in sewage sludge using ultrasonic-assisted extraction (USE) followed by SPE cleanup and high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS)/MS analysis with electrospray ionisation (ESI) in a positive mode. The USE conditions (e.g. extraction solvent, pH, and extraction cycles) and high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) parameters were optimised. Quantification was performed by internal standard calibration in multiple reaction monitoring mode. Recoveries of the antibacterials ranged from 41 to 123%, with relative standard deviations within 17%. The sample-based limits of quantification were 10–63?ng?g?1 dry weight (dw) for FQs (ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, lomefloxacin, norfloxacin, and ofloxacin) and 250–500?ng?g?1 dw for TCs (tetracycline and oxytetracycline). The method was applied to determine the antibacterials in sewage sludge and sediment samples were collected from the Pearl River Delta, China. Ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, and ofloxacin were frequently detected, ranging from 1052 to 17740?ng?g?1 dw in dewatered sludge samples, 585–3545?ng?g?1 dw in untreated solids, and 98–258?ng?g?1 dw in an urban stream sediment sample, respectively. Lomefloxacin and enrofloxacin were also occasionally detected.  相似文献

In order to determine PAHs in marine sediment samples by GC/MS(SIM) a new extraction approach of ASE-SFE was evaluated using combined accelerated solvent extraction (ASE, dynamic and static mode) and supercritical fluid extraction (SFE, dynamic mode) without further purification of the sample. The solvents used for ASE-SFE were methylene chloride and carbon dioxide. The recovery data, precision and accuracy of the whole method were evaluated statistically. The average recoveries of PAHs, based on deuterated internal standards were 77% for 2–3-ring PAHs, 85% for 4-ring PAHs, 88% for ¶5-ring PAHs and 97% for 6-ring PAHs. The extraction time required for the ASE-SFE technique was 30 min, which is longer than in the case of independent use of ASE and shorter compared to SFE. ASE-SFE recoveries of PAHs from SRM marine sediment are comparable for (2–3-ring, 4-ring PAHs) or higher (5-ring, 6-ring PAHs) than reported for the conventional extraction methods of ASE and SFE. Method detection limits of (MDL) were statistically estimated. MDL values obtained for 15 PAHs compounds vary between 0.06 ngg?1 and 3.54 ngg?1.  相似文献

An analytical method was developed for the simultaneous extraction and determination of 18 fluoroquinolones (FQs), tetracyclines (TCs) and sulfonamides (SAs) antibiotics from soils using solid phase extraction and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The soils were extracted by different solvents with the help of mechanical shaking and ultrasonic treatment at 59?kHz, followed by a strong anion exchange (SAX) cartridge to clean up soil samples and a hydrophilic lipophilic balance (HLB) cartridge as enrichment. The method was evaluated by testing the following variables: extraction solvents, the type of SPE cartridges, solvent volumes, initial spiking levels and soil types (silty clay loam and clay loam soils). The soil extraction method was validated using these two types of soils, representing two typical agricultural soils in northern China. For 2?g soil, the extraction steps with the mixture of potassium phosphate buffer and acetonitrile (ACN) (1/1, v/v, pH 3.2) provided satisfactory recoveries. In the clay loam soil, the recoveries of all the compounds were from 56% to 89% at the spiking level of 50?µg?kg?1 soil, and from 69% to 97% at the spiking level of 200?µg?kg?1 soil, respectively. Recoveries in silty clay loam soil were similar to that in clay loam. The method was successfully employed using soil samples collected from a farmland and afforestion area irrigated with sewage in northern China. The result indicates that trace antibiotics in sewage may accumulate in soil irrigated by river water containing sewage.  相似文献

Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) was applied to the simultaneous extraction of a wide range of pesticides from food commodities. Extractions were performed by mixing 4 g of sample with 4 g of Hydromatrix and (after optimization) a mixture of ethyl acetate:acetone (3:1, v/v) as extraction solvent, a temperature of 100°C, a pressure of 1000 psi and a static extraction time of 5 min. After extraction, the more polar compounds were analyzed by liquid chromatography (LC), and the apolar and semipolar pesticides by gas chromatography (GC); in both cases LC and GC were coupled with mass spectrometry in tandem (MS/MS) mode. The overall method (including the PLE step) was validated in GC and LC according to the criteria of the SANCO Document of the European Commission. The average extraction recoveries (at two concentration levels) for most of the analytes were in the range 70–80%, with precision values usually lower than 15%. Limits of quantification (LOQ) were low enough to determine the pesticide residues at concentrations below or equal to the maximum residue levels (MRL) specified by legislation. In order to assess its applicability to the analysis of real samples, aliquots of 15 vegetable samples were processed using a conventional extraction method with dichloromethane, and the results obtained were compared with the proposed PLE method; differences lower than 0.01 mg kg−1 were found.  相似文献

A rapid and sensitive method has been developed for the determination of biphenyl and biphenyl oxide in water samples using dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction followed by gas chromatography. This method involves the use of an appropriate mixture of extraction solvent (8.0?µL tetrachloroethylene) and disperser solvent (1.0?mL acetonitrile) for the formation of cloudy solution in 5.0?mL aqueous sample containing biphenyl and biphenyl oxide. After extraction, phase separation was performed by centrifugation and biphenyl and biphenyl oxide in sedimented phase (5.0?±?0.3?µL) were determined by gas chromatography-flame ionisation (GC-FID) system. Type of extraction and disperser solvents and their volumes, salt effect on the extraction recovery of biphenyl and biphenyl oxide from aqueous solution have been investigated. Under the optimum conditions and without salt addition, the enrichment factors for biphenyl and biphenyl oxide were 819 and 785, while the extraction recovery were 81.9% and 78.5%, respectively. The linear range was (0.125–100?µg L?1) and limit of detection was (0.015?µg?L?1) for both analytes. The relative standard deviation (RSD, n?=?4) for 5.0?µg?L?1 of analytes were 8.4% and 6.7% for biphenyl and biphenyl oxide, respectively. The relative recoveries of biphenyl and biphenyl oxide from sea, river water and refined water (Paksan company) samples at spiking level of 5.0?µg?L?1 were between 85.0% and 100 %.  相似文献

A simple, cost effective, and yet sensitive sample preparation technique was investigated for determining Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in solid samples. The method comprises ultrasonic extraction, Stir Bar Sorptive Extraction (SBSE), and thermal desorption–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry to increase analytical capacity in laboratories. This method required no clean-up, satisfied PAHs recovery, and significantly advances cost performance over conventional extraction methods, such as Soxhlet and Microwave Assisted Extraction (MAE). This study evaluated three operational parameters for ultrasonic extraction: solvent composition, extraction time, and sample load. A standard material, SRM 1649 a (urban dust), was used as the solid sample matrix, and 12 priority PAHs on the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) list were analyzed. Combination of non-polar and polar solvents ameliorated extraction efficiency. Acetone/hexane mixtures of 2:3 and 1:1 (v/v) gave the most satisfactory results: recoveries ranged from 63.3% to 122%. Single composition solvents (methanol, hexane, and dichloromethane) showed fewer recoveries. Comparing 20 min with 60 min sonication, longer sonication diminished extraction efficiencies in general. Furthermore, sample load became a critical factor in certain solvent systems, particularly MeOH. MAE was also compared to the ultrasonic extraction, and results determined that the 20-min ultrasonic extraction using acetone/hexane (2:3, v/v) was as potent as MAE. The SBSE method using 20 mL of 30% alcohol-fortified solution rendered a limit of detection ranging from 1.7 to 32 ng L−1 and a limit of quantitation ranging from 5.8 to 110 ng L−1 for the 16 US EPA PAHs.  相似文献

In the present work, a novel nanocomposite (NC) was prepared by reinforcing montmorillonite (MMT) into polypyrrole-nylon-6 (PPy-N6) hybrid through in situ oxidative polymerisation of PPy in the MMT-N6 mixture. The prepared novel NC was deposited as a thin layer coating on the stir bar substrate by solvent exchange method. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy were applied to characterise the prepared NCs. The prepared stir bar based on MMT/PPy/N6 NC was applied for sorptive extraction of some organophosphorous pesticides (OPPs) in river water samples with detection by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The effect of MMT doping level in the NC and also the effect of PPy hybridation with N6 on the coating extraction capability were studied. Central composite design was used to optimise and study the effects of influencing factors on the stir bar sorptive extraction efficiency such as salt content, pH, extraction time, desorption time, desorption solvent and its volume. The method optimisation step was performed using gas chromatography-flame ionisation detector, while the method validation was conducted using GC-MS. Limits of detection of the developed method are in the range of 0.05–0.3 μg L?1 and the linear dynamic ranges are in the range of 0.3–1000 and 1–1000 μg L?1, respectively. The intra-day precision (RSD %) of developed method with four replicates varied between 5.4 and 8.2% for distilled water spiked at 100 μg L?1. The applicability of the developed method was examined by extraction and determination of OPP compounds in river water samples, indicating the relative recoveries in the range of 80.3–95.3%.  相似文献

Abstract

A methodology for the determination of the pesticide chlorfenvinphos by microwave‐assisted solvent extraction and square‐wave cathodic stripping voltammetry at a mercury film ultramicroelectrode in soil samples is proposed. Optimization of microwave solvent extraction performed with two soils, selected for having significantly different properties, indicated that the optimum solvent for extracting chlorfenvinphos is hexane‐acetone (1∶1, v/v). The voltammetric procedure is based on controlled adsorptive accumulation of the insecticide at the potential of?0.60 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) in the presence of Britton‐Robinson buffer (pH 6.2). The detection limit obtained for a 10 s collection time was 3.0×10?8 mol l?1. The validity of the developed methodology was assessed by recovery experiments at the 0.100 µg g?1 level. The average recoveries and standard deviations for the global procedure reached by MASE‐square‐wave voltammetry were 90.2±2.8% and 92.1±3.4% for type I (soil rich in organic matter) and type II (sandy soil) samples, respectively. These results are in accordance to the expected values which show that the method has a good accuracy.  相似文献
