Monobasic metal nitrilotriacetate hydrated salts, MH[N(CH2COO)3].xH2O, have been prepared by the reaction of nitrilotriacetic acid with metal carbonate. DTA studies of these salts both in N2 and air reveal that these salts initially undergo dehydration and then, through acetate intermediates, decompose to oxycarbonates or oxides.  相似文献

A great variety of metal oxide nanoparticles have been readily synthesized by using alkali metal oxides, M(2)O (M is Na or Li) and soluble metal salts (metal chlorides) in polar organic solutions, for example, methanol and ethanol, at room temperature. The oxidation states of the metals in the resulting metal oxides (Cu(2)O, CuO, ZnO, Al(2)O(3), Fe(2)O(3), Bi(2)O(3), TiO(2), SnO(2), CeO(2), Nb(2)O(5), WO(3), and CoFe(2)O(4)) range from 1 to 6 and remain invariable through the reactions where good control of stoichiometry is achieved. Metal oxide nanoparticles are 1-30 nm and have good monodispersivity and displayed comparable optical spectra. These syntheses are based on a general ion reaction pathway during which the precipitate occurs when O(2-) ions meet metal cations (M(n+)) in anhydrous solution and the reaction equation is M(n+) + n/2 O(2-) --> MO(n/2) (n=1-6).  相似文献

In order to adequately carry out the laboratory procedures usually taught in a general analytical chemistry course, students must master the subject of multiple equilibria in aqueous solution, both conceptually and mathematically. The use of a computer program to solve the concentrations of all species at equilibrium with a slightly soluble compound is frequently recommended in the chemical education literature, due to its simplicity and quickness. But, when this calculation procedure fails to consider other important reactions aside from the solubility equilibrium itself, significant differences in the numerical results may be obtained. For several metal carbonates, the usual procedure to calculate their solubilities is to consider carbonate ion hydrolysis as the only additional reaction. In this paper it is shown numerically and graphically that for magnesium and silver carbonates, the precipitation reaction of metal (hydr)oxides would occur at the pH value calculated from the carbonate dissolution plus the anion hydrolysis equilibria. An analytical procedure to solve these complex multiple equilibria system is presented. The final solution to the problem is obtained through a high-order equation that is easily solved by a simple iterative method. The correct solubility-pH curve for the metal carbonates is calculated, and the pH values for the metal hydroxide precipitation onset for several important representative and transition metal carbonates are shown. It is concluded that the overall procedures to solve these multiple equilibria problems are not beyond the comprehension of any chemistry student with a acceptable background in general, inorganic, and analytical chemistry, and that by focusing on tasks such as these, important critical-thinking skills can be obtained.  相似文献

The solubility behavior of metal oxides in sub- and super-critical aqueous solutions is quantified using thermodynamic concepts. Three physicochemical phenomena are discussed: (1) metal oxide solid phase stability; (2) metal oxide dissolution reaction equilibria; and (3) metal ion hydroxocomplex formation. Thermochemical properties of metal oxides/ions representative of the most common constituents of construction metal alloys, i.e., elements having atomic numbers between 22 (Ti) and 30 (Zn), are summarized on the basis of metal oxide solubility studies conducted at General Electric and elsewhere.Presented at the Second International Symposium on Chemistry in High Temperature Water, Provo, UT, August 1991.  相似文献

We have investigated the separation of uranium from lanthanum in two molecular organic liquids (sulfolane, TMSO2; ethylene carbonate, EC) and in one organic ionic melt: ethylammonium nitrate (EAN). A separation is achieved by chemical oxidation and precipitation of oxides in TMSO2; in this medium, the part of uranium remaining in solution may be recovered by an electrochemical reduction. In EAN, it is required to add Li2O to initiate the oxides precipitation: the separation corresponds to the difference between the solubility products of UO3(s) and La2O3(s). Best results are obtained in EC where the insoluble phase corresponds to an U/La ratio equal to 186 instead of 1.7 in the initial conditions.  相似文献

We report a facile hydrothermal synthetic route to prepare a class of monodispersed lanthanide-based compound submicrospheres with controllable size, which employs raw lanthanide oxides as starting material, urea as precipitator and poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (PVP) as surfactant. Dependent on the intrinsic properties of respective lanthanide, the resulting products could be in the form of oxide, hydroxide or basic carbonate. These lanthanide hydroxides or basic carbonates can be easily transformed into their corresponding oxides by calcination, retaining the same morphology and size dispersion. The formation mechanism of these lanthanide-based compound submicrospheres is investigated and PVP plays a critical role in forming uniform and well-dispersed products. Furthermore, this method could be extended to a binary system by using two kinds of lanthanide oxides as starting material, resulting in doped-type lanthanide oxide submicrospheres (such as Y(2)O(3):Eu(3+)). The Y(2)O(3):Eu(3+) submicrospheres exhibit nearly uniform spherical morphology and narrow size distribution as well as good water solubility and sharp spectral emission at 610 nm (corresponding to the 5D(0)-7F(2) transition of Eu(3+)). This makes them attractive materials for applications in fields such as fluorescent lamps, field emission displays (FEDs) or LCDs, or as biomedical labels and molecular probes.  相似文献

Two‐dimensional (2D) nanomaterials show unique electrical, mechanical, and catalytic performance owing to their ultrahigh surface‐to‐volume ratio and quantum confinement effects. However, ways to simply synthesize 2D metal oxide nanosheets through a general and facile method is still a big challenge. Herein, we report a generalized and facile strategy to synthesize large‐size ultrathin 2D metal oxide nanosheets by using graphene oxide (GO) as a template in a wet‐chemical system. Notably, the novel strategy mainly relies on accurately controlling the balance between heterogeneous growth and nucleation of metal oxides on the surface of GO, which is independent on the individual character of the metal elements. Therefore, ultrathin nanosheets of various metal oxides, including those from both main‐group and transition elements, can be synthesized with large size. The ultrathin 2D metal oxide nanosheets also show controllable thickness and unique surface chemical state.  相似文献

MoO(3) nanostructures with different morphologies, such as helical nanosheets, crosslike nanoflowers, and nanobelts, have been synthesized on a large scale by an environmentally friendly chemical route. The evolution process from helical nanosheets to crosslike nanoflowers to nanobelts is observed for the first time. The influences of reaction time and the molar ratio of molybdenum and H(2)O(2) on the morphologies of MoO(3) nanostructures have been investigated. The synthetic process is environmentally friendly and may be extended to synthesize nanostructures of other metal (W, Ti, and Cr) oxides.  相似文献

We have synthesized a series of novel octahedral Rh(III) salen-type complexes where the salen ligand is unsymmetrically bound to the Rh(III) dichloride center. This mode of bonding left one intact phenol group coordinating to the rhodium center and has never before been observed in salen-metal chemistry. These remarkably stable complexes possess unique coordination geometry and represent the first time that Rh(III) salen complexes have been successfully isolated from the direct combination of RhCl(3).3H2O and the salen ligand in the absence of a nucleophilic base. The (salen)Rh(III) dichloride complex can be converted to the analogous monochloride complex by reaction with metal carbonate salts.  相似文献

We have recently shown that the hydrated ionic liquid tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAH) is an efficient ionic liquid precursor (ILP) for the fabrication of ZnO/carbohydrate materials (D. Mumalo-Djokic, W. B. Stern, A. Taubert, Cryst. Growth Des. 2008, 8, 330). The current paper shows that ZnO is just one example out of the large group of technologically important metal (hydr)oxides that can be made using TBAH. Simply by using different metal acetates as precursors in TBAH, it is possible to make a wide variety of metal (hydr)oxides with well-defined size, morphology, and chemical composition. It is also possible to dope metal oxide particles or to synthesize mixed metal oxide particles, and therefore to control properties like magnetism.  相似文献

Synthesis of monodisperse spherical nanocrystals   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Much progress has been made over the past ten years on the synthesis of monodisperse spherical nanocrystals. Mechanistic studies have shown that monodisperse nanocrystals are produced when the burst of nucleation that enables separation of the nucleation and growth processes is combined with the subsequent diffusion-controlled growth process through which the crystal size is determined. Several chemical methods have been used to synthesize uniform nanocrystals of metals, metal oxides, and metal chalcogenides. Monodisperse nanocrystals of CdSe, Co, and other materials have been generated in surfactant solution by nucleation induced at high temperature, and subsequent aging and size selection. Monodisperse nanocrystals of many metals and metal oxides, including magnetic ferrites, have been synthesized directly by thermal decomposition of metal-surfactant complexes prepared from the metal precursors and surfactants. Nonhydrolytic sol-gel reactions have been used to synthesize various transition-metal-oxide nanocrystals. Monodisperse gold nanocrystals have been obtained from polydisperse samples by digestive-ripening processes. Uniform-sized nanocrystals of gold, silver, platinum, and palladium have been synthesized by polyol processes in which metal salts are reduced by alcohols in the presence of appropriate surfactants.  相似文献

Deuterium kinetic isotope effects are widely used in chemical and biological research. Deuterium thermodynamic effects on the aqueous synthesis of inorganic materials, however, seem not to have been recognized. Here we report that the simple replacement of H(2)O with D(2)O in the synthesis of a solid-state manganese complex results in a new structurally and magnetically distinct phase. When iron oxides are synthesized, the relative amount of the mineral phases obtained in H(2)O vs D(2)O is different. The morphology and magnetic properties of the iron core of the iron storage protein ferritin are likewise different when mineralization is carried out in heavy water. The formation of extra inorganic solids, change in the ratio of two phases or alteration of a single phase morphology in D(2)O suggest that new inorganic and bioinorganic metal complexes might be obtained by using the thermodynamic isotope effect.  相似文献

Sparingly soluble calcium salts were studied as reactants in the synthesis of needle-like precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC). The morphology and aspect ratio of the PCC particles were characterized with SEM. Polymorphs and crystal size were characterized using X-ray diffraction. The counterions of the sparingly soluble salts influenced the growth kinetics of PCC as well as the polymorphism and morphology of product particles. Either chrysanthemum-like or needle-like aragonite can be synthesized from calcium sulfate and sodium carbonate depending on the supersaturation and synthesis conditions. Low concentration and slow addition rate of sodium carbonate solution were favorable to the formation of aragonite. Addition of sodium sulfate to the reaction system (calcium chloride and sodium carbonate) promoted the formation of aragonite and decreased the crystal size of aragonite due to the decrease of supersaturation and adsorption of sulfate ion. Too much added sodium sulfate, however, did not further increase the aragonite fraction. An optimal temperature for the formation of aragonite was found to be ca. 60 degrees C. Slow dissolution kinetics of sparingly dissoluble salt also is very important for controlling PCC polymorphism and morphology.  相似文献

Lithium-excess manganese layered oxides, which are commonly described by the chemical formula zLi(2)MnO(3)-(1-z)LiMeO(2) (Me = Co, Ni, Mn, etc.), are of great importance as positive electrode materials for rechargeable lithium batteries. In this Article, Li(x)Co(0.13)Ni(0.13)Mn(0.54)O(2-δ) samples are prepared from Li(1.2)Ni(0.13)Co(0.13)Mn(0.54)O(2) (or 0.5Li(2)MnO(3)-0.5LiCo(1/3)Ni(1/3)Mn(1/3)O(2)) by an electrochemical oxidation/reduction process in an electrochemical cell to study a reaction mechanism in detail before and after charging across a voltage plateau at 4.5 V vs Li/Li(+). Changes of the bulk and surface structures are examined by synchrotron X-ray diffraction (SXRD), X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS). SXRD data show that simultaneous oxygen and lithium removal at the voltage plateau upon initial charge causes the structural rearrangement, including a cation migration process from metal to lithium layers, which is also supported by XAS. This is consistent with the mechanism proposed in the literature related to the Li-excess manganese layered oxides. Oxygen removal associated with the initial charge on the high voltage plateau causes oxygen molecule generation in the electrochemical cells. The oxygen molecules in the cell are electrochemically reduced in the subsequent discharge below 3.0 V, leading to the extra capacity. Surface analysis confirms the formation of the oxygen containing species, such as lithium carbonate, which accumulates on the electrode surface. The oxygen containing species are electrochemically decomposed upon second charge above 4.0 V. The results suggest that, in addition to the conventional transition metal redox reactions, at least some of the reversible capacity for the Li-excess manganese layered oxides originates from the electrochemical redox reaction of the oxygen molecules at the electrode surface.  相似文献

We synthesized Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticle/reduced graphene oxide (RGO-Fe(3)O(4)) nanocomposites and evaluated their performance as anodes in both half and full coin cells. The nanocomposites were synthesized through a chemical co-precipitation of Fe(2+) and Fe(3+) in the presence of graphene oxides within an alkaline solution and a subsequent high-temperature reduction reaction in argon (Ar) environment. The morphology and microstructures of the fabricated RGO-Fe(3)O(4) nanocomposites were characterized using various techniques. The results indicated that the Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles had relatively homogeneous dispersions on the RGO sheet surfaces. These as-synthesized RGO-Fe(3)O(4) nanocomposites were used as anodes for both half and full lithium-ion cells. Electrochemical measurement results exhibit a high reversible capacity which is about two and a half times higher than that of graphite-based anodes at a 0.05C rate, and an enhanced reversible capacity of about 200 mAh g(-1) even at a high charge/discharge rate of 10C (9260 mA g(-1)) in half cells. Most important of all, these fabricated novel nanostructures also show exceptional capacity retention with the assembled RGO-Fe(3)O(4)/LiNi(1/3)Mn(1/3)Co(1/3)O(2) full cell at different C rates. This outstanding electrochemical behavior can be attributed to the unique microstructure, morphology, texture, surface properties of the nanocomposites, and combinative effects from the different chemical composition in the nanocomposites.  相似文献

Mixed metal oxides (MMOs) prepared by the mild thermal decomposition of layered double hydroxides (LDHs) differ in their reactivity on exposure to aqueous molybdate containing solutions. In this study, we investigate the reactivity of some T-Al containing MMOs (T=Co, Ni, Cu or Zn) towards the formation of layered transition metal molybdates (LTMs) possessing the general formula AT2(OH)(MoO4)2·H2O, where A=NH4+, Na+ or K+. The phase selectivity of the reaction was studied with respect to the source of molybdate, the ratio of T to Mo and the reaction pH. LTMs were obtained on reaction of Cu-Al and Zn-Al containing MMOs with aqueous solutions of ammonium heptamolybdate. Rehydration of these oxides in the presence of sodium or potassium molybdate yielded a rehydrated LDH phase as the only crystalline product. The LTM products obtained by the rehydration of MMO precursors were compared with LTMs prepared by direct precipitation from the metal salts in order to study the influence of preparative route on their chemical and physical properties. Differences were noted in the composition, morphology and thermal properties of the resulting products.  相似文献
