The dissociation constants of (4-amino-1-hydroxybutylidene)bisphosphonic (alendronic) acid, (3-(dimethylamino)-1-hydroxypropylidene)bisphosphonic
(olpadronic) acid and (3-amino-1-hydroxypropylidene)bisphosphonic (pamidronic) acid were obtained in aqueous solutions (0.10
M KCl) and micellar solutions of cetylpyridinium chloride (0.10 M CPC) at 25.0°C. With the exception of the third dissociation
constant of alendronic acid, the dissociation constants of alendronic, olpadronic and pamidronic acids in aqueous solutions
matched literature data. The possibility of sodium alendronate determination by acid-base titration by NaOH solution was theoretically
grounded on the basis of re-evaluated data of alendronic acid dissociation constants.

Preliminary results of development of a direct and fast method of determination of antimony in samples of tap water using
GFAAS are presented. The found levels of antimony were lower than permitted for human consumption. A mixture of Pd and Mg(NO3)2 (concentrations in the injected solution: 8.6 μg mL−1 and 5.8 μg mL−1 respectively) was used as the chemical modifier. The pyrolysis and atomization temperatures were 1000 and 1700°C, respectively
and the mean analytical recovery 98.2%.

Textured Ni tapes were fabricated from commercially available nickel pellets (98.5% Ni). Ingots produced by a melt process
were cold rolled to 150–400 μm thick tapes. Texturing was achieved by annealing in a reducing atmosphere (Ar + 6.5% v/v H2). Sharp cubic biaxial textured Ni tapes were obtained by thermal treatment at 1000°C for 2 hours in a reducing atmosphere.
The tapes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and by electron backscattering diffraction.
The tensile strength, the thermal expansion behavior and the Vickers hardness for the cold rolled tapes and for the heat-treated
tapes were measured.

A comparative study of the Diels-Alder reactions between cyclopentadiene (1) and dienophiles (2 a–c) in N-hexylpyridinium
bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide in a temperature range of 20–45°C is reported. The reaction rate constants and activation
energies were calculated. Moreover, the catalytic systems based on N-hexylpyridinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide and
Lewis acids were tested as a reaction media to perform the Diels-Alder reaction. Yb, Y, Mg, Zn triflates and chlorides (0.005
to 0.1 mmol) were used as catalysts. The recycling of catalytic system consisted of YCl3 and ionic liquid was performed.

The kinetics of the C-S coupling of arylmagnesium bromides with phenyl tosylate has been studied in THF: toluene at 90°C.
The reaction is first order in Grignard reagent and first order in phenyl tosylate. Kinetic data, Hammett relationship and
activation parameters are consistent with a nucleophilic addition mechanism involving rate determining attack of carbanion
to sulfonyl group followed by a fast phenoxide group leaving.

A simple and sensitive dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction method for extraction and preconcentration of pentachlorophenol
(PCP) in water samples is presented. After adjusting the sample pH to 3, extraction was performed in the presence of 1% W/V
sodium chloride by injecting 1 mL acetone as disperser solvent containing 15 μL tetrachloroethylene as extraction solvent.
The proposed DLLME method was followed by HPLC-DAD for determination of PCP. It has good linearity (0.994) with wide linear
dynamic range (0.1–1000 μg L−1) and low detection limit (0.03 μg L−1), which makes it suitable for determination of PCP in water samples.

Layered compounds with CdS particles supported on the ion-exchanger, γ-titanium dihydrogen phosphate, were prepared by the
stepwise reaction of the ion-exchanger and cadmium solution, followed by reaction with H2S gas. The CdS content on the ion-exchanger is dependent on the timeframe of the H2S gas flow. The materials obtained were layered, as shown by the X-ray measurements that exhibit both precursor and CdS diffraction
peaks. The thermal treatment of the material obtained gives evidence of its stability (≤ 320°C) before the CdS decomposition,
which occurs in a single step.

A novel method for the preparation of biaxial textured nickel oxide on commercially available nickel via a modified surface
oxidation epitaxy (SOE) process has been developed. Following studies of different heat-treatment procedures for both texturing
of nickel and for the fabrication of nickel oxide the following method was found to yield the best results. Nickel was first
textured under an argon — hydrogen atmosphere at 1000°C for 120 min, then the temperature was lowered to 800°C and the atmosphere
was changed to argon with 3 ppm oxygen. Smooth and crack free c-axis textured and a–b aligned NiO buffer layers with an out-of-plane
texture of 7.8° and an in-plane texture of 9.4° were successfully produced. Higher oxygen partial pressure and temperatures
resulted in increased surface roughness and excessive grain growth.

Kinetic study on the decomposition of Prussian Blue electrocatalytic layer during electrochemical reduction of hydrogen peroxide
has been studied in relation to biosensor application of this electrocatalyst. The decomposition has been shown to proceed
as a nearly exponential decay process and the corresponding first-order rate coefficients were determined. It has been shown
that the decomposition proceeds about 10 times faster in pH 7.3 buffer solution as compared to pH 5.5 buffer. A linear dependence
of the decomposition rate on the concentration of hydrogen peroxide has been found.

The palladium(0) catalyzed amination of allylic acetates and carbonates derivatives from terpenic olefins was carried out
under mild conditions. The reaction offers a very good method for the preparation of allylic amines and thus to provide a
useful entry to new functionalized terpenic olefin products. The mechanism involving a formation of p-allyl-palladium intermediate
complex is in good agreement with the results obtained with the optically active substrates, as well as via an analysis of
the observed regio-and stereoselectivity.

The interaction of [Pd(DAP)(H2O)2]2+ (DAP = 1,3-diaminopropane) with some selected bio-relevant ligands, containing different functional groups, were investigated.
The ligands used are dicarboxylic acids, amino acids, peptides and DNA constituents. Stoichiometry and stability constants
of the complexes formed are reported at 25°C and 0.1 M ionic strength. The results show the formation of 1:1 complexes with
amino acids and dicarboxylic acids. The effect of chelate ring size of the dicarboxylic acid complexes on their stability
constants is examined. Peptides form both 1:1 complexes and the corresponding deprotonated amide species. DNA constituents
form 1:1 and 1:2 complexes. The effect of dioxane on the acid dissociation constants of CBDCA and the formation constant of
its complex with Pd(DAP)2+ was reported. The kinetics of hydrolysis of glycine methyl ester bound to [Pd(DAP)(H2O)2]2+ was studied at 25°C and 0.1M ionic strength.

Ni powders were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS, and FTIR. Spherical, hexagonal, and triangular fcc Ni powders from 0.30 to
0.60 μm were obtained in the presence of SDS; irregular spherical fcc Ni powders were obtained in its absence. The concentrations
of SDS, NaOH and Ni(CH3COO)2·4H2O greatly influence the product morphology and size.

In this paper we present the methods to chemically synthesize the Sb2Se3 nanorods and study the electrical and optical properties of a single Sb2Se3 nanorod with an average size of 70 nm in diameter and a length of about 1 μm to 2 μm. The techniques we devised can immobilize
and allocate a single nano-object on an electron beam (E-beam) patterned smart substrate. It can also overcome the limitation
of the spatial resolution of conventional optical techniques (∼ 1 mm) to obtain optical spectroscopy in an individual nano-object
less than 100 nm in size. We also demonstrate the techniques in using E-beam defined metallic coordination markers as electrodes
to measure the conductance of a single Sb2Se3 nanorod.
